Re: [ALOCHONA] Jamati and Moududi Thoughts: An Illustration of Bankruptcy

Dear Shamim Chowdhury,

I enjoyed reading the article attached in your mail. But remember, in past three election, hailed atleast by one major party i.e. BNP or AL as free and fair, Jamaat secured no less than 15% of the total vote count. If you convert these percentage point to equivalent population, considering each voter represent same chunk of population as a mass, that would come to like 2,25,00,000 number of people supporting Jamat. (Considering population of Bangladesh to be 15 crore). This number is bigger than the population of most of countries in the world and almost half of that of influential country like UK.  For every 20 people in Bangladesh, there is atleast 3 person supporting Jamat. And beleive me, those who support Jamat, support it on their own free will. They understand it's mission and vision and very little we and other scholarly alem can do about it.
The way some people try to just wipe Jamat off with their 'well written' mail is simply astonishing. We should try to respect people and respect their choices. Only then, in return, we can expect respect from others.

Thanking you.

Jamati and Moududi Thoughts: An Illustration of Bankruptcy

I?d like to assure Adda?s readers that I absolutely have no personal or political agenda in Adda. I feel ethically obligated to express my thoughts and ideas independently and objectively when most of the Islamic and nationalistic ideas in Bangladesh are basically bankrupt, distorted and politically biased. Jamati Islami, as a fundamentalist and extremist Islamic party in Bangladesh, needs to look at their misdeeds and misrepresentation of Islamic thoughts that really hurt them and absolutely undermine the Muslim world.

Jamatis inherited their Islamic ideologies from Moududi, a Pakistani literary scholar who has never had any in-depeth Islamic knowledge and background even he appears to be as an Islamic scholar to Jamatis and its followers. Basically, Jamatis read his ?Tafhims? (explanation of Holy Quran) as text books and frequently use them as references. Tafhim was considered controversial about different statments on prophethood and sunnah. Any literate person can browse books in this regard that highlighted distortion in Moududi's thoughts. Moududi, like Jamati leader Golam Azam, lacks any academic background and expertise in Islamic teaching. Yet, their books and booklets are text books for Jamatis that simply ignite their Jihadi political spirits based on narrow and misleading explanations of Islamic tenets. Philosophically, Jamatis follow the Taiymiah explanation and thoughts that have narrowly followed basic Islamic beliefs and drastically lacked the Prophet (PBUH) and his companions' teaching.

In Saudi Arabia and some other Middle Eastern countries, they have followed Taiymiah?s strict teaching of Islam that Jamatis and their leader Moududi have always allied with. Saudi assistance and influence have generously benefited Jamatis and their followers to establish financial and academic institutions in Bangladesh. Islamic scholars in the mainstream Muslim world have always rejected Wahabi and Moududi?s fundamentalist thoughts as false and misguided. Islam in its belief and practice has never endorsed any political party system and putting a party in this effect, indeed, can be considered as a misguided innovation.

Jamatis perceive political islam as their mainstream ideology where extremism reins their thoughts and practice. For example, few blind people were asked to depict an elephant by touching. Each blind person explained an elephant based on the body part or limb he touched as an Elephant. Jamatis are like those blinds who firmly believe in and fight only for the fundamentalist form of political Islam that simply lacks the complete and fair expression and practice of Islamic tenets. Islam teaches peace, compassion and leaves no place for violence in its practice.

In Bangladesh, politically active and conscious people who rejected Jamatis have never been adequately equipped to refute Jamati view points in larger context other than their disgraceful collaboration with Pakistanis in mass killing of innocent Bangladeshis. On the other hand, Islamic scholars in Bangladesh who fundamentally exposed the bankruptcy in Jamati and Moududi thoughts have mostly failed to articulate and present their writings to the larger audience of conscious people. In reality, Jamatis have found ways to reappear as Epiphytes in our political system. History has shown us independence loving Bangladeshis' hearts and souls have never been deceived for a long period. People will wake up to put Jamatis in the dustbin of history.

Hi Badrul Islam, Enayet Ullah , Anis & others,

Mr. Badrul, I want to inform you with regret that Mr. M R A Mukul has died on 26 th June 2004 - after a prolonged illness and he was in Ibrahim Memorial Diabetic Hospital for few weeks and he died there.

His sickness and specially his news of death was a lead item in all news papers of Bangladesh (even in Jamat - BNP funded & minded news papers).

And after that, on every year in all high-flying news papers publish many article on his death (even on birth day) anniversary by his colleagues, other prominent columnist friends, relatives, (his son in law, Dr. Qaiyum Parvez, an educationalist & University teacher and settled in Australia) is a very good writer and he wrote many articles on him. His daughter Mrs. Kobita Parvez wrote a touching article on MR A Mukul and none could control their emotions & tear of ear after reading HER that article, "CHOTTO  PHAKI  CHONDONA ….", url is : http://www.bangla-sydney.com/search_list.asp?name=akhter+mukul)

I do not know how you have missed all these information and articles on him.

I am attaching few of them, written on late MRA Mukul for your study.

Mr. Enayet, for your information, late MRA Mukul, Abdul Gaffar Choudhury and some others are not greedy like their companion - contemporary - modern time writers - columnist -journalist -educationalist - politician (except very few). They did never asked any 'legal' (& illegal) favor from Bangabandhu & to AL Govt. For your information - some corrupt minister (of Bangabandhu Govt) tried to 'gift' some abandoned & Govt property to them and they openly rejected those 'bribes'.

But still they (M R A Mukul, A G C & few others) were utmost loyal and honest to politics & principle of Bangabandhu and never betrayed him.

To know more read these attached articles (very few, I have lot more, as hard copy) on M R A Mukul, after his death.

Read & know about him and then make comments.

Dr Shafique Ahmed Siddique, husband of Sheikh Rehana and also a writer, filed the case as Rentu failed to pay compensatory damages awarded to him by a court.

Earlier in 2002, Dr Shafique filed a defamation case against Rentu, terming the remarks about him (Dr Shafique) in Rentu's book 'AMAR FASHI CHAI' false, baseless and politically motivated.

Dhaka, Nov 10 (bdnews24.com) -- Motiur Rahman Rentu, the veteran freedom fighter and author of the controversial book Amar Fashi Chai, died in Paris Saturday after a battle with lung cancer.

The former aide to Awami League president Sheikh Hasina published Amar Fashi Chai (I want my hanging) in June 2000.

The then AL government banned the book almost as soon as it came out on the grounds that the contents were inflammatory and could provoke hatred toward the government.

In his controversial book Rentu criticised the then ruling Awami League administration and specifically targeted some of its leaders, including party chief Sheikh Hasina.

Rentu left Bangladesh four years ago with his wife and two daughters and stayed in different parts of Europe for a year before settling down in Paris.

The son of Abdul Bari from Muksudpur in Gopalganj, Rentu maintained a close working relationship with Hasina from 1981 to 1997.

Rentu's nephew Bablu told bdnews24.com by telephone from Paris that his uncle had succumbed to cancer and would be buried in Paris.

Rentu was 53 and is survived by his wife and two daughters.

[ALOCHONA] Cyclone Sidr; Demand immediate withdrawal of emergency in affected areas

bdnews24.com reported Food and disaster management adviser Tapan Chowdhury Sunday said he welcomed political parties joining post-Sidr relief operations.

Adviser said, "This is the time to stand beside afflicted humanity. The government will welcome any political party that takes part in the ongoing rescue and relief operations," the adviser told reporters at the secretariat.

People surely will welcome this move by government in light of their past mistake of not allowing political parties to participate freely in disaster relief and rehabilitations efforts. It remains yet to be seen whether the words walk with the work or not.
Thanks

[vinnomot] Pakistan: Yet another US foreign policy calamity

ANALYSIS
Pakistan: Yet another US foreign policy calamity
By Vojin Joksimovich
November 17, 2007

After Iraq fiasco, fighting the war without end in Afghanistan, creating frenzy about Iran’s nuclear weapons ambitions, loss of Russia as a partner, policies in the Balkans heading for the rocks, Cole bomber terrorist walking free in Yemen, emergency rule in Georgia, now yet another mega foreign policy calamity: chaos in Pakistan. A country in possession of some 60 nuclear warheads with two of its provinces controlled by Al Qaeda and Taliban and a country in which Osama bin Laden’s popularity exceeds 50%.

Chaos in Pakistan: Islamist Bogeyman
President Pervez Musharraf put Pakistan under emergency rule giving himself sweeping powers: sending the troops into the streets; police firing teas gas and clubbing protesting lawyers; detaining thousands of judges, lawyers, human rights workers, and his political opponents in particular members of the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto supporters; forbidding newspapers and broadcasters from expressing opinions he doesn’t like; ousting seven independent-minded Supreme Court justices including the chief justice Mohammed Chaudhry and suspending the constitution. Several of those arrested were charged with treason for making anti-Musharraf speeches or distributing anti-Musharraf leaflets. Musharraf cited the country’s deteriorating security situation amid a rising Islamic insurgency. However, the police was rounding up lawyers dressed in trademark black suits and starched white shirts. Hence, the lawyers have become terrorists in Pakistan! The timing was days before an expected Supreme Court ruling on whether his election last month to a new presidential term was valid. The chief justice is now under house arrest surrounded by paramilitary troops. The bottom line, Musharraf is using the Islamist bogeyman while his real target is the Supreme Court, like Mubarak is using Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, to present himself as the only safe choice for the West.

According to Secretary Rice, Washington was not consulted but she was only “disappointed with his decision.” President Bush, self-appointed defender of freedom and crusader against tyranny anywhere in the world, expressed hope that Musharraf “will restore democracy as soon as possible.” The U.S. wants democracy in Pakistan, Bush said “at the same time, we want to continue working with (Musharraf to) fight these terrorists and extremists.” Defense Secretary Robert Gates wants to continue military aid because he does not want to disrupt partnership with Pakistan “in fighting Al Qaeda and other militants.” Presumably the lawyers are these other militants! The U.S. envoy Anne Patterson told the general that his measures had been “heavy-handed.” The conclusion is that the U.S. is buying into Musharraf Islamist bogeyman. During the visit of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Bush became more assertive in a telephone conversation with Musharraf: “The United States wants you to have the elections as scheduled, and I want you to take the uniform off.” It appears to be working; Musharraf announced that Pakistan would hold parliamentary elections by mid-February.

Dictator Musharraf: Troubled Pakistan’s History
Musharraf, an army general, seized the presidency in a coup eight years ago and has been promising democracy ever since. This is his second coup. During his naked dictatorship rule there was no room for major opposition leaders to be in the country. Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto had to live in exile. For 32 out of its 60 years, Pakistan has been ruled by generals. In intervening intervals, it had 20 prime ministers including Bhutto and Sharif. Sharif, leader of the Pakistan’s Muslim League (N) was ousted by Musharraf in 1999 and then redeported to Saudi Arabia when he attempted to return to Pakistan last month.

Bhutto, daughter of Zulficar Ali Bhuttoâ€"a former prime minister who was hanged in 1977---, was welcomed by twin suicide blasts that killed 145 people in her jubilant homecoming procession in Karachi on October 18. She was lucky to survive. She returned after reaching a power-sharing agreement with Musharraf encouraged by the U.S., which included amnesty for her corruption charges. It might have included guarantees that the parliamentary elections will not be rigged against her Pakistan’s People’s Party (PPP) as Musharraf did before. Musharraf’s loyal supporter is the Pakistan’s Muslim League (Q), led by Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, who stated that Bhutto herself was the terrorist with the aim of drumming up sympathy on October 18.

So how can the U.S. latch on a profoundly dysfunctional country like Pakistan as a crucial partner in Central Asia? General Zia set the stage in late 1970s.

General Zia played U.S. as Violin
This dependence on Pakistan did not start with 9/11. In 1977 General Muhammad Zia ul-Haqq, after overthrowing and hanging Benazir Bhutto’s father, became a dictator and announced that he wanted to establish a “genuine Islamic order” in Pakistan. He imposed harsh Islamic rules and declared that “in Islam there is no provision for Western-type elections.” He was supported by the party founded by Maulana Abu ala Maududi, Jammat-e-Islami, that was inspired by the Pakistani Muslim Brotherhood. Maududi advocated a Leninist revolutionary approach to Islamist politics in his book Jihad in Islam. He played the U.S. as the violin and managed to convince the U.S. to de facto outsource its policy in Central Asia to Pakistan. Jammat-e-Islami was a natural ally of Saudi Wahhabists.

Zia’s goal was to use the U.S. power to carve out a new Mogul empire extending from Pakistan to the Soviet republics of Central Asia. Original Mogul Empire (1526-1857) covered most of the Indian subcontinent and parts of Afghanistan. Afghanistan was at the center of that policy, with Pakistan determined to install a compliant government in Kabul. It was Zia who encouraged Islamists in Afghanistan, both domestic such as Gulbuddin Hekmatyar or Abdurrab Rasul Sayyaf as well as imported Arabs like Osama bin Laden, to fight the Soviets while convincing Washington that the mujahideen were the best bet to defeat the Soviets in the 1980-89 U.S. Afghan proxy war against the USSR. 70% of the U.S./Saudi multi billion dollar funding went to ultra-Islamist anti-American Afghan parties. He supported the madrassas along the Afghan-Pakistan border to serve as recruiting grounds. Saudi/Pakistani complex produced Al Qaeda, Afghan Arabs and Taliban.

Zia authorized a Pakistani program to develop the nuclear weapons capability. The program was deliberately overlooked by Washington in order to further jihad in Afghanistan. Zia’s policies amounted to: screw India, deceive the U.S., spread Islamism, develop Islamic bomb and spread nuclear weapons technology.

Musharraf: Another Grandmaster of U.S. Manipulation
Musharraf is another Pakistani general-dictator who played the U.S. as the violin. Second to Saudi Arabia, Pakistan played a major part in 9/11. A point the 9/11 Commission failed to acknowledge. Nonetheless he became a crucial U.S. partner in the war on terror and a major non-NATO U.S. ally despite the fact that the U.S. policymakers were fully aware that Pakistan was at the center of the world’s worst Islamist terrorist networks: an exporter of terrorism especially into Kashmir and a creator of the Taliban in Afghanistan. He got a royal treatment in Washington and became the first South Asian leader to be invited to Camp David with a promise of $3 billion in aid. Currently assistance to Pakistan is estimated at more than $10 billion not counting the covert assistance estimated at $5 billion. Most of this assistance went to the Pakistani military. Pakistan’s debt burden was also eased. In return the Pakistani authorities have detained some 500 suspected members of Al Qaeda and Taliban.

On March 1, 2003, Pakistan arrested Khalid Shaikh Mohammed (KSM), 9/11 mastermind, a few hours before announcing that Pakistan would not back the UN resolution authorizing the war in Iraq. In March 2002, they captured Abu Zubeida, Al Qaeda’s operations chief, during the congressional debate on foreign aid to Pakistan and delivery of F-16 fighter jets. There were also captures of Yasser Jazeeri, Ramzi Binalshibh and Abu Faraj Libbi, claimed to be the new Al Qaeda #3, when the U.S. decided to make delivery of F-16s contingent on American agents getting the right to interrogate Abdul Qadeer Khan, father of the Islamic bomb.

U.S. counterterrorism analysts, in a document titled Al Qaeda better positioned to strike the West, have concluded that Al Qaeda has rebuilt its operational capability to a level not seen since just before 9/11. The network has been able to regroup along the Afghan-Pakistani border, in so called Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), despite six years of bombings, war and other tactics aimed at its eradication. Musharraf made even a deal with FATA which sounded like capitulation to the Taliban and Al Qaeda. After collapse of the deal with FATA, due to storming of the Lal Masquid Red Mosque, the Islamist insurgents have scored a series of victories against so called Frontier Corps, an indigenously recruited force of some 80,000 troops. In late October, Islamists captured a dozen of Frontier fighters and paraded them before Western journalists. In August, 250 Frontier Corps troops surrendered without the fight.

Frontier Corps, according to the LA Times, are equipped often with little more than “sandals and bolt-action rifles” as they face Al Qaeda and Taliban fighters with assault rifles and grenade launchers. This arms imbalance has contributed to current Al Qaeda strength in the region. John Kringen, head of the CIA’s analysis directorate, testified in the Congress: “They seem to be fairly well settled into the safe haven. We see more training. We see more money. We see more communications. We see that activity rising.” Bulk of the billions of dollars in U.S. military aid have been spent on heavy arms, aircraft and equipment far more suited for a conventional warfare with India. As a result the Frontier Corps has been all but shut off from the U.S. military aid.

In addition, Musharraf has been let off the hook with regard to the vital issue of nuclear proliferation. On the other hand Iran has been built up as a major nuclear threat despite the fact that the director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s chief, Mohamed El-Baradei, claims that Iran only wants eventually to become a “virtual nuclear-weapons state” like Japan while Pakistan has built an inventory of some 60 nuclear warheads.
David Albright, president of the Institute for Science and International Security in Washington, expressed his worry about the Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal by saying:”If there is [further] instability, Musharraf is going to have less ability to exercise tight control. Pakistan tends to leak. It has leaked vital nuclear weapons information. It’s the nature of the system. Albright was obviously referring to the illicit network of Abdul Qadeer Khan, who definitely deserves the title of the nuclear proliferation grandmaster. Musharraf pardoned Khan and didn’t allow for him to be interviewed by the U.S. authorities.

Cost/Benefit Analysis
Applying elementary cost/benefit approach to the effectiveness of the post 9/11 policies in Pakistani, we know that the cost is in excess of $15 billion while the benefit appears to be nebulous and not commensurate with the cost. After six years of alleged war against the Islamists, bin Laden’s popularity in Pakistan runs in excess of 50% while Al Qaeda in settled in the Pakistani safe haven and operates effectively from there.

[ALOCHONA] Cyclone Sidr: Demand withdrawal of emergency affected area

Subject: DEMAND IMMEDIATE UNCONDITIONAL WITHDRAWAL OF EMERGENCY POWER ACT IN CYCLONE AFFECTED AREA

This is very unfortunate, seeing so called Nonpolitical Caretaker Government of Dr. Fakhruddin playing same evil game, which they played last July when Bangladesh floods maroon millions. Political parties asking government permission to join rescue effort has been discouraged

When nearly million people remained marooned in seven flood-hit districts in the country's north west and in the south. THE most notorious adviser Barrister Moinul started malicious debate whether political parties can take part on relief operation or not. Whether political parties can carry their banner along their relief operation etc.

People praised and thanked to Dr. Fakhruddin’s governments for their timely effort to alert about calamity of mega cyclone SIDR.to millions of people which saved many lives? However, unfortunately what they are doing now by not allowing political parties as well as mass people is unwarranted  and condemnable.

For the first time in the history of Bangladesh during a natural calamity people was bared to join the rescue effort.

Over protective jealous government gave more importance to political party regaining their footing among common people then peoples suffering.

CARETAKER GOVERNMENT IS DISCOURAGING AND NOT GIVING PERMISSION TO POLITICAL PARTIES TO STAND BESIDE THEIR CONSTITUENCIES, WHY?

Why government does not want political parties to serve their constituency is not acceptable but understandable. In recent months, governments nasty design to breakup of mainstream political parties and organizes enslaved political parties are well underway and started getting shape. In no circumstances government want to strike at the foundations of that unholy blueprint even if that brings misery among cyclone-affected people.

Caretaker governments destructive anti humanity decision is designed to give all credit to Bangladesh Army the driving force of this government as the only knight in shining armor  to rescue people of Bangladesh from all sorts of calamity be it natural or political and MAKE ALL MAINSTREAM POLITICAL PARTIES AS VILLAIN.

I urge government not to play its evil malice anti people strategy, STOP their foul game and allow people to participate in relief operation. Allow political parties to bring their hand to stand beside people who suffering from loss of life, crops and property.

I URGE GOVERNMENT TO RATION THEIR TALL TALK.
RATIONING PEOPLE AND POLITICAL PARTIES PARTICIPATION IN RESCUE EFFORT IS NOT DESIRABLE.

DEMAND IMMEDIATE UNCONDITIONAL WITHDRAWAL OF EMERGENCY POWER ACT IN CYCLONE AFFECTED AREA

Sincerely
Shamim Chowdhury

[ALOCHONA] Jamati and Moududi Thoughts: An Illustration of Bankruptcy
