I received the following e-mail from my old friend Leo Igwe, a past winner of the Freidenkers' Award in Nigeria on an international seminar that he is conducting on the Osu Caste system, a system of untouchability that is practised in Nigeria. This system is similar to untouchability in India and they are looking for papers on caste which they would like to receive and read to the audience present there. Anyone who has any paper in hand or paper ideas may kindly send a copy electronically or by snail mail to Mr Igwe at his contact address below.
Please also forward this message widely to anyone who you think may be able to contribute articles / papers / presentations. The participants at the Nigerian conference would like a look at caste and other discrimination from all perspectives and the experts from South Asia here who have ben writing for several newspapers and journals are particularly requested to help with information.
To add to Leo's many achievements, he has been chosen by CFI to represent them in Nigeria and he has been an ardent campaigner against Female Genital Mutilation. He has bravely faced severe danger in a violent part of the world on account of his ideas and his powerful speaking abilities. This is not something that I am saying as a biased friend of his - a Google search would help confirm everything that I have said, and considerably more.
