A Kashmiri youth, Parveez Ahmad, narrates how police turned him from a gentleman to 'bomb-man' in a letter from his confinement in Tihar Central Jail, Delhi. Combat Law is in possession of his letter. It is being reproduced here
Subj: Save my career, as I am innocent.
Being citizen of India I keep faith in Indian law and judiciary. And hope no discrimination will be done against me. Though my faith in law and being a citizen of India has scattered badly by the role of police. But still I have not left the rope of hope. To restore the faith, it is essential to give me justice, through fare trial, and save my career. To prove my innocence your goodself is requested to see my past record. Which will reveal you how clear my past and present is. Though I am concerned about the condition of J&K.
Now I want your kind attention towards the following lines which will reveal your goodself the whole story.
As I have done my M. Sc (Zoology) from the University of Pune and now am seeking admission to Ph.D for which I was going to Pune.
- On September 12, 2006, I left home for Pune by flight (Spice Jet). Srinagar - Delhi & Delhi-Pune. On reaching Delhi, when I was approaching for Spice-Jet counter to collect my boarding pass, some seven to eight persons held me firmly and took away my luggage and whatever I had in my pockets. They took me to Lodhi Colony special cell office. where they torture and interrogated me severely. They beat me up ruthlessly and gave me electric shocks. Later, I came to know that they were from the special cell of police. Led by inspector Sharma ji.
- On the same day they forced me to call one of my friends to give his SIM card to their contact person already in Pune.
- ON September 13, 2006, they made my I Card with the name of Iqbal and took me to Pune by Spice-Jet flight. On reaching Pune, one police team was already there but in civil dress. I can reveal all the details, their names, where they kept me in Pune, and how they mentally tortured me.
- On September 14, 2006 evening after receiving few calls they took me to one shop in Pune and collected some 10 lakh rupees from that shopkeeper.
- On September 15, 2006 they took me back to Delhi, and kept me again in Lodhi Colony Special Cell lock up where they tortured me very badly and severely. I was unconscious and half dead.
- On September 16, 2006 they took me to some unknown place and kept me there for almost one month. I was not able to walk and move as they kept me handcuffed in one room. The details of that very place and persons will be revealed in the court. What they did with me there, will also be revealed.
- During that duration they neither informed my parents nor took me into police remand or judicial custody. Instead, they forced me to lie to my parents that I got a job in Maharashtra.
- After one month on October 15, 2006 they took me to hospital for medical, which was just a formality, as I was already instructed not to say anything about my ailment, torture and muscular spasm. Even doctors wrote the medical report without examining me. I was shocked to see the collusion between police and doctors. I could not understand what was going on. As I was seeing that for the first time in my life.
- On the same day October 15, 2006 in the evening they took me to a lady magistrate for taking me into police remand. That too was a joke, as I was in their custody for more than one month. Before presenting me before that magistrate they threatened me of dire consequences If I narrated the true story. I was made to narrate my story their way. The story was like this. I was coming from Mumbai by Golden Temple express to Nizamuddin. To hand over rupees 10 lakh and three Kg of RDX to some Tariq at Azadpur Mandi. But that Tariq did not come. Meanwhile police party caught hold of me. The magistrate did not ask me anything.
- During my stay in their custody they compelled me to file so many (rail) reservation forms in my own hand writing and signature. They took away my attache bag. On asking where they were taking my bag, they told me that my final verification was being done. Soon you would be released. I got very tense and was confused, and smelled something fishy. I thought they would finish me in an encounter. So I could not sleep all those nights. If they have really sent any person to Delhi from Mumbai, then that was Ram Gopal who was looking after me in that police flat, may be a constable. That police office (Flat) is near an airport, as I could hear sounds of aeroplanes. One metro track is also nearby which I saw from one small pore of window. Through the bathroom window, I saw a public school in the neighbourhood. The name of that public school was ITL Public School, next to this police flat. In that flat the staff was changing every 24 hours. The staff comprised of Anil Tyagi, Ram Gopal, Gurmeet, Raju (Pahalwan), Mangal (Bihari), Pravesh, Pandit and others whose name I don't know but I can identify them. They kept me as an animal, handcuffed and feetcuffed tied to the iron rods of window, 24 hours. Because of which I was not able to make any free movement or walk in that very room. The only time they were releasing me when I was going to bathroom. For the whole month I could no see sun. In that very police flat there was one more person arrested (rather kidnapped) in other room. He too was forced to make calls to his relatives.
- After staying few for days in that flat, I was made to cell my parents and saying that I was alright and got a job. One evening my parents called me up with weeping words that they heard news of my arrest, as somebody had informed them. I could not tell them that I was in police custody since the day I left home. I was forced to assure my parents that I was alright. I was happy. Also that I thanked God that atleast my parents came to know. Later police threatened me not to disclose news of my arrest before my parents and assured me of releasing before Eid. Whenever my parents were calling me I was lying to them that I was not getting travel reservation confirmed. They (my parents) were insisting on me to leave my job and come back to home. I was weeping for the whole day and night. I became very weak and lazy. Inspector Sharma ji told Anil Tyagi to provide me Quran and other books so that I would not loose my concentration. They were constantly assuring me of releasing me before Eid. But they were lying and deceiving me as well as my parents.
- After taking me into police remand officially, they kept me at Lodhi Colony office for days. I was thinking perhaps they would release me now, as Deepawali as well as Eid were approaching after few days. But there was some thing worst to come. My career was going to be spoilt it and my image was going to change from gentleman to bombman, from student to a terrorist.
Am I not Indian, if I am Kashmiri. Why this discrimination. When tall claims are being made by the Govt. of India, by media, that before Law all citizens are equal. Whether of Kashmir or Kerala. ...they made me a scape-goat, to get compliments from their seniors and public. And public too took me as a terrorist - Finally the day came when my whole career was wiped. I was mentally shocked and astonished. On October 20, 2006, when I was watching TV in Inspector Badrish Dutt's room, suddenly SI Vinay Tyagi told me that one press person was downstairs and wanted to meet me. He advised me to speak in his presence. After 10-20 minutes, suddenly everything changed altogether. Every personnel was trying to catch hold of me and come close to me. I was just confused to see what was going on. Especially, SI Vinay Tyagi and Havaldar Satish held me firmly. Suddenly they opened the gate and I was just shocked to see the mob of more then 50 photographers. They started taking my photographs and shooting me for 10-15 minutes. I understood that they have now ruined my career and life. I looked towards inspector Sharma ji. He by his gesture posed as he had arrested me and presented me before media as a hard core terrorist. Now I realised fully what actually their plan of keeping me in their custody was. They actually wanted to show me before media and tell that they have arrested a persons (terrorist) who arrived in Delhi to explode bombs on the occasion of Deepawali, which is just shame upon them. How they (police) were befooling their public. And media was helping them in propagating such fake arrests. When I could not celebrate my Eid at home, with my parents, what I have to do with the Deepawali. After those false and baseless allegations I wept like a widow. Now I realised that I no more could contact my parents. As they (police) have turned me into a don.
My faith in Indian democracy and law has shattered badly and I am now very disappointed in jail on the role of police. I am finding no hope, then to appeal before your goodself to provide me fare trial and give me justice. So that I can restart my normal life |
- Am I really a terrorist? When I have never ever seen how that RDX looks like.
- Am I not an Indian, if I am a Kashmiri.
- Why this discrimination. When tall claims are being made by the Govt. of India, by media, that before law all citizens are equal. Whether of Kashmir or Kerala.
- Why they made me a scape-goat, to get compliments from their seniors and public. And public too took me as a terrorist. Who had arrived in Delhi on Deepawali to disrupt the celebrations? Whole of the police party and the special cell people know very well that they arrested me on September 12, 2006 at Delhi airport. Are they trying to prove that aeroplane authority were allowing to carry explosives in their flights.

[ALOCHONA] Has anyone examined where the stories are being cooked?
Isha Khan <bd_mailer@yahoo.com> wrote:
Has anyone examined where the stories are being cooked?
No so long ago, for about 30 years in fact, every story about Bangladesh had Jewish refugee Kissinger racist insulting quote. It stopped when some of us pointed out to US media that it was a deliberate insult like quoting Nazi Germans racist cliche about Jews in every report to do with Jews. And then every Bangladesh report quoted the population figures and percentage of impoverishment. In recent reports, a phenomenon started in India, they talk about a "largely destitute population"- as quoted by Barbara Elk in the Washington Post not so long ago. And then reports about global warming has given Indians to whisper and shout that the destitute are flooding into India as India is now the new America ( except that India has half the poorest people, and amongst the most destitute, in the world!). No reporter sees propaganda, racism or irony or cheek in the Indian fabrications. The fact remains India suffers massive and brutal internal instability, and needs to build wire barriers with her all neighbours to keep its rebellious nationalities under effective control.
Bangladesh image is so bad that even nations with hardly a leg to stand regard themselves lucky. Even Afghanistan regards Bangladesh as destitute, even though its people are at the mercy of America and Europe for every thing, including nearly free mobile phones. Afghanistan has hardly any industry, food, hospitals or even education. Afghan life expectancy is less than 40. Bangladesh life expectancy is 64 and rising.
What of the people of Bangladesh themselves? They regard themselves- correction: every other Bangladesh person, bar themselves and their immediate family, as destitute, disaster prone, corrupt, illiterate, diseased. Unbelievably, Bangladesh writers even today give out pseudo- anthropological description of Bengali people as: "short, blackish, of Dravidian origin". We all seem to have very low opinion of ourselves and freely communicate such beliefs to foreigners. One has to ask who has planted such a seed of inferiority complex on a whole nation of 160 million.
Such is the leper-like colony image of Bangladesh that hardly anyone, in any part of the world, has any respect for our talent as lovers, artists, managers, chefs, journalists, doctors, poets, designers or workers. How did we allow this to happen to us when we have some many diplomatic missions round the world and we have a 8 million strong probash? How did it happen to a Bengali nation so seemingly proud of its 3,500 history and all the greatness it has produced in the last hundred years, in cinema, music, literature, medicine, science....?
Sri Lanka has been in a brutal bloody civil war for over 30 years, between Buddhist Sinhalese themselves- an issue largely hidden today ; and then between Hindu Tamils and Buddhist Sinhalese. Despite the extreme violence and suicide attacks (Hindus still hold the world record for the most suicide attacks) the investors have kept coming, aid has kept flowing in,... and no one has been allowed to caricature Sri Lanka or the Sinhalese as violent or anything else. In fact Sri Lankans and their diplomats have been the most proactive in crushing every story in the international media (including stories about sexual exploitation of little boys for tourist dollars) which they dislike by actively putting out their own viewpoint and bombarding the international media with corrections or smooth talk. With the result that international media, and the BBC, ensure that civil war is reported with great care. There has been no adverse effect on the international image of the nation or the Sinhalese ethnic group. In fact the Muslim Gulf Arab even helped to found a an airline and hotels to help tourism!
Nepal's brutal ethnic and class war has been spared adverse news coverage, especially in British dominated media, because Britain employs Gurkha mercenaries in its army.
Afghanistan is spared all the cliche in use for Bangladesh. Almost every Bangladesh story filed by Reuters, AFP, AP carries the same insulting/ demeaning sentence/s. Remarkably, such stories are republished verbatim without any rewrite! This is the simpleminded and naive Bangladesh elite we have in control of our destiny.
India, with all the tragedies and brutalities its numerous ethnic, caste and religious groups suffer daily is the lucky country. It's the darling of international media, including Arab run media.
Islamic Republic of Pakistan (Republic of Pakistan ended in 1971 when 3 million Bengali people were killed in retaliation for electing a Bengali leadership to run the state, long run for the Punjabi Army) has been the luckiest country of all. It is a state which exists for an Army and an ethnic group. The state has been both the installer of fanatical talibans using Saudi aid and then become an active killer of the very same Pathan talibans by the thousands when it was politic.... It's dominant population can play the Islamics and the moderate or even atheist depending on the who has come forward with the latest tranche of Dollars. One remarkable feature is the active manner its advocates at home and abroad have close ties with the the military families.
Today, as on so many other occasions, the Sheikh of Qatar's Al Jazeera has been running disparaging reports on Bangladesh. Hana G?, the reporter, showed the world viewers very distressing pictures of people suffering in hospitals, Dhaka as a bleak place, repeated that Dhaka was the 2nd most polluted, that Dhaka is going to be a dead place....
One has to ask why is no one objecting to the demeaning pictures of people of Bangladesh and the place called Bangladesh in most of Sheikh of Qatar's news channel? How is it possible for a foreign news channel to just walk into a hospital or a bustee in Dhaka. How often have you seen pictures of bustees in Karachi?
I know some of my Bengali people will say to me it does not matter. Sadly it matters. And it matters even if your nation has three Nobel Prizes: Tagore, Sen, Yunus. A Gujarati or a Tamil may not have Nobel Prize winner but they will claim Sen and Tagore; and shine in the glory. What does it matter an Arab or a German can tell one Indian from another. BUT THEY ALL CAN TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INDIA AND BANGLADESH. Get it? No!
One last point. Transparency International labeling is a libel and a lie against our nation. Bangladesh is not even the 40th poorest. And Dhaka is not the 2nd most polluted. Let's now get Bangladesh critics, academics, diplomats and media to analyse the spread of falsehood against an entire nation.

Subimal,
Nucleus is the core of the atom - isn't it? The term 'subatomic' includes nucleus also. That was not a slip of pen. I just assumed that it will be understood. Electrons in their atomic orbits do move with speed close to that of light. It has to move with that speed to counter-balance strong nuclear force. Electrons are quantum particles - isn't it?
What Kamal Das showed is that a particle with a mass of 1 kg cannot be a quantum particle. You cannot assume something as heavy as 1 kg to be moving with a speed close to that of light. That's a classical object. You guys are forgetting that quantum particles must follow uncertainty principle, and for that reason, they have to be light weight (~ 10-31 kg) particles. Planets are not quantum particles - trust me. Planetary motions are governed by gravitational forces. Yes, I have seen that documentary about Parallel Universes, you are referring to. I think those theories are in the infancy. As far as I know, it is not yet established.

1. Kamal Das is correct in saying that an object of mass 1 kg and moving with the speed of light (in empty space) has a de Broglie wavelength of about 2.2 times 10 to the power negative 42 meter. Dr. Jiten Roy is wrong because he is using two different units of measurement in the same formula.
2. One thing needs to be mentioned here. Photon (carrier of electromagnetic wave) is the only particle that can move with the maximum speed of about 300,000,000 meters per second. At rest its mass is zero.
N.B: We hear about speeds exceeding the above mentioned attainable maximum speed. I think it is still a debatable issue in the scientific community. Looks like theory of relativity is at risk as it assumes a maximum speed of c as amentioned above. Your email settings: Individual Email|Traditional Change settings via the Web (Yahoo! During the summer of 1845, a "blight of unusual character" devastated Ireland's potato crop, the basic staple in the Irish diet. A few days after potatoes were dug from the ground, they began to turn into a slimy, decaying, blackish "mass of rottenness." Expert panels convened to investigate the blight's cause suggested that it was the result of "static electricity" or the smoke that billowed from railroad locomotives or the "mortiferous vapours" rising from underground volcanoes. In fact, the cause was a fungus that had traveled from Mexico to Ireland.
"Famine fever"--cholera, dysentery, scurvy, typhus, and infestations of lice--soon spread through the Irish countryside. Observers reported seeing children crying with pain and looking "like skeletons, their features sharpened with hunger and their limbs wasted, so that there was little left but bones." Masses of bodies were buried without coffins, a few inches below the soil. Over the next ten years, more than 750,000 Irish died and another 2 million left their homeland for Great Britain, Canada, and the United States. Within five years, the Irish population was reduced by a quarter. The Irish potato famine was not simply a natural disaster. It was a product of social causes. Under British rule, Irish Catholics were prohibited from entering the professions or even purchasing land. Instead, many rented small plots of land from absentee British Protestant landlords. Half of all landholdings were less than 5 acres in 1845. Irish peasants subsisted on a diet consisting largely of potatoes, since a farmer could grow triple the amount of potatoes as grain on the same plot of land. A single acre of potatoes could support a family for a year. About half of Ireland's population depended on potatoes for subsistence. The inadequacy of relief efforts by the British Government worsened the horrors of the potato famine. Initially, England believed that the free market would end the famine. In 1846, in a victory for advocates of free trade, Britain repealed the Corn Laws, which protected domestic grain producers from foreign competition. The repeal of the Corn Laws failed to end the crisis since the Irish lacked sufficient money to purchase foreign grain. In the spring of 1847, Britain adopted other measures to cope with the famine, setting up soup kitchens and programs of emergency work relief. But many of these programs ended when a banking crisis hit Britain. In the end, Britain relied largely on a system of work houses, which had originally been established in 1838, to cope with the famine. But these grim institutions had never been intended to deal with a crisis of such sweeping scope. Some 2.6 million Irish entered overcrowded workhouses, where more than 200,000 people died. The Irish Potato Famine left as its legacy deep and lasting feelings of bitterness and distrust toward the British. Far from being a natural disaster, many Irish were convinced that the famine was a direct outgrowth of British colonial policies. In support of this contention, they noted that during the famine's worst years, many Anglo-Irish estates continued to export grain and livestock to England.
