dear all,
The activities of foreign diplomats in Bangladesh clearly reveals that they want to see a imposed and induced democracy in our country. They want to up rooted the values and norms of democracy which exists even in their own countries.
They want to remain as king maker up to KIAMOT.

[ALOCHONA] Review: Nebulous Newness In Nepal

Review: Nebulous Newness In Nepal

by Ramesh Prasad
The Raj Lives: India In Nepal
By Sanjay Upadhya
Vitasta Publishing Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi
350 Pages; Hardbound Edition: 2008
ISBN: 81-89766-73-2

The abolition of the 240-year-old monarchy in Nepal has come as a relief to those Indians disenchanted by successive kings' hostility toward India. Indeed, the dominant theme of the history of India's relations with its northern neighbor revolves around how Nepali kings took every opportunity to antagonize India.

At bilateral forums, Kathmandu always pressed demands without scant regard for India's sensitivities. At multilateral forums, Nepal consistently ganged up with governments hostile to New Delhi. Nepal's voting record in the United Nations was consistently against India's foreign policy interests.

New Delhi compounded its problems by creating the perception among ordinary Nepalis that it was backing the palace. When King Gyanendra seized power in early 2005, touching off one of the worst crises in bilateral relations, there was a belief in a sizeable constituency in Nepal that he had actually done so at the instigation of India. When New Delhi mediated an alliance the following year between the Maoist rebels and the mainstream parties for the restoration of democracy, Kathmandu seethed with suspicion that this was another Indian ploy to extract concessions from the palace. In essence, India lost both ways in Nepal.

Now New Delhi has wisely sided with the Nepali people. The Maoist victory in the recent elections came as a surprise to Indian policymakers, but they have prudently engaged with the former rebels. An opportunity for a new beginning beckons both nations. Yet India must not underestimate the challenge it faces from across a vast and unregulated border.

A new book, "The Raj Lives: India In Nepal," provides important pointers to India. Essentially a compendium of longstanding Nepali grievances against India – and the British colonial rulers – the book's principal strength lies in its portrayal of the depth of "anti-Indianism" in Nepal. The author, Sanjay Upadhya, a Nepali journalist, has shown how political parties, including traditionally India-friendly organizations like the Nepali Congress, have tapped into this psychology for electoral gains. From this book, it seems the political atmosphere has been vitiated to the point where it is immaterial who or what system governs Nepal.

The Maoists present the most conspicuous challenge. They have made a comparatively smooth transition from a bloody armed insurgency to the democratic mainstream. The Nepali Congress and the Communist Party of Nepal (United Marxist-Leninists), among other parties, continue to voice skepticism over their true intentions. The Maoists, it must not be forgotten, had launched their uprising on a 40-point charter that began with purely anti-Indian demands.

In power, they have now moderated their stance on the controversial 1950 Treaty of Peace and Friendship. Indian officials, to their credit, have expressed their readiness to revisit the treaty in line with Nepali grievances. In interviews with Indian media organizations, Maoist chairman Prachanda has made conciliatory statements vis-à-vis India. Back home, he tends to strike a different posture. Some of this may be attributed to the continuing process of the former rebels' adjustment to democracy. Still, India cannot afford to lower its guard, especially considering our own Naxal insurgency.

One important reason, as Upadhya explains, is that the Maoists have strengthened their relations with the Chinese. During the 10-year-old insurgency, the monarchy, the mainstream parties as well as China accused India of aiding and abetting the uprising. The Nepali rebels undoubtedly used their relations with Naxalites and other Indian insurgent groups to seek safe haven on Indian soil.

New Delhi, in reality, offered the palace and parties political and military support to fight the insurgency. India captured top Maoist leaders and countless lower rank functionaries and deported them to Nepal. Those with cases pending locally were kept under the Indian judicial system. Still, the notion that India actively trained and armed the Nepali rebels, ludicrous as it may have sounded this side of the border, took hold in Nepal and continues to this day.

After the collapse of royal rule, the Chinese moved steadily to improve ties with the Maoists. As Nepali parties squabbled over the kind of government that should replace the monarchy, a senior Maoist minister visited China. Although the minister, Krishna Bahadur Mahara, sought to explain away the visit as routine, the timing clearly indicates it was anything but.

Another source of concern for India is the United States. As Deb Mukherji, a former Indian ambassador in Kathmandu, pointed out at a recent seminar, Washington's growing influence in Nepal – more than India's role – could alienate China. This, according to Mukherji, could exacerbate New Delhi's woes in the long run. The United States has built an ultra-modern embassy in Kathmandu, signaling its long-term interests in Nepal.

In some ways, India and China have created a quiet arrangement whereby Beijing has conceded New Delhi's predominant role in Nepal, given the common religious, cultural and social heritage. It is when China has felt its interests threatened, such as the growing American military engagement with the palace in the prelude to the royal coup, that Beijing has reacted more aggressively. India must calibrate its Nepal policy independent of other governments, in tandem with Nepali aspirations and in cognizance of its broad range of interests.

The pro-Tibet demonstrations in Kathmandu over the last two months may have shifted the Nepali mindset. The manner in which the Chinese embassy virtually ordered the Nepali government to crack down on the protesters did not go down well with ordinary Nepalis. As a result, a nation committed to building a new democratic structure came under heavy criticism from Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and other international organizations for its "autocratic" tendencies.

The fact that the Chinese were so aggressive in asserting their interests may allow Nepalis to understand India in a new light. How new, of course, would depend on India.

[ALOCHONA] Motiur Rahman Nizami (Moitya Dalal)

Motiur Rahman Nizami  (Moitya Dalal)

Motiur Nizami, 2004: the mastermind of all political killings and patron of various Mujahedin forces and Jihadist terrorist cells
The chief of operations of the al-Badr (Jamati death squad) forces, Motiur Rahaman Nizami is responsible for the murder of thousands of Bengalis involved in or connected to the liberation war. Son of Khondokar Lutfar Rahman of Monmothpur village under Sathia PS in Pabna district, Motiur has nothing to do with the title Nizami (Nizam means aristocrat i.e. Nizam of Hyderabad, India) at all . Like his other Islamist peers Motiur took up his title Nizami in order to make his name sound respectable, conceal his lowly origin and his base nature. The people of his village hated him so much for his shameless betrayal of his own countrymen that they still call him Moitya Dalal (traitor). Motiur is presently the minister for industries in Khaleda Zia's cabinet--a reward for Motiur's support of the Pakistani hunks Khaleda desrted her husband for in 1971.
Motiur Nizami's War Crimes in 1971
Motiur Nizami in 1971
Motiur carried out a wide range of activities against the Bangladesh liberation war of 1971. Motiur was the president of Jamat's youth front, the Islami Chhatra Sangha (now known as Islami Chhatra Shibir or the Islamic Students' Association). Under Motiur's direct supervision and leadership, the al-Badr (para-militia) force was organised in order to eliminate the freedom fighters and supporters of liberation movement. Motiur was the commander-in-chief of al- Badr forces. Apart from killing the freedom fighters and supporters of liberation movement, the aim of ideological warfare waged by the al-Badr forces was to Islamization (Talibanisation) of Bangladesh. One of the main objectives of al-Badr forces was to short list the secular Bangalee intellectuals and eliminate them. Horrifying stories of killing of intellectuals by Motiur's al-badr forces were published in newspapers, home and abroad, during and after the liberation war.
1. During the war Motiur acted as one of the top Jamati ideologues instigating his cohorts and followers by means of public speech and newspaper articles to support the Pakistani occupation army in killing the freedom fighters and supporters of liberation war. In one of the issues of Daily Sangram, the Jamati mouth piece, Motiur wrote : The day is not far away when the young men of al-Badr, hand in hand with the armed forces, will defeat the Hindu forces (enemies) and raise the victorious banner of Islam all over the world, after the destruction of India. (Daily Sangram Nov 14, 1971)
2. On April 12, 1971, Motiur joined Gholam Azam and other leading collaborators such as Sabur Khan to lead a procession in Dhaka to demonstrate their support for Pakistan. The procession, under the banner of peace committee ended with a special prayer for the victory of Pakistan. (Daily Sangram April 13, 1971).
3. In Jessore, a bordering district, Motiur, in addressing the assembly of the para militia forces at the district head quarter of the Razakar force, said: In this hour of national crisis, it is the duty of every razakar to carry out his national duties to eliminate those who are engaged in war against Pakistan and Islam. (Daily Sangram Sept 15, 1971)
3. People from Motiur's home district, Pabna, have brought allegations against Motiur's direct involvement in killing, rape, arson and lootings. One such person is Aminul Islam Dablu of Brishlika village under the Bera Police Station (in Bangladesh, due to the colonial legacy, all administrative units below districts are organised under a police station, PS, hence all sub-districts are called Thana or PS). Dablu told the commission that his father Mohamed Sohrab Ali was killed on the orders of Motiur. Dablu further said that a number of people from the area were killed on Motiur's orders such as: Profulla Pramanik, Bhadu Pramanik, Manu Pramanik and Shashthi Pramanik. Dablu said there were many eye witnesses to those killings.
4. Abdul Quddus, a freedom fighter from Madhabpur village in Pabna, once spent two weeks in an al-Badr torture cell following his arrest in an uneven war. Quddus said he heard plans to kill freedom fighters and local supporters of the war were discussed and drawn up by al-Badr men under Motiur's supervision.
5. On November 26 a razakar commander named Sattar took Pakistani troops to the Dhulaupara village where 30 freedom fighters were arrested and subsequently killed. As per Quddus's testimony, Sattar carried out the execution on Motiur's order. Quddus told the commission that he managed to attend a secret meeting of al-Badr forces which Motiur presided and gave instructions to kill freedom fighters. In the meeting the al-Badr men listed the houses of Awami League leaders and the bases and hide-outs of the freedom fighters. Motiur sternly ordered his men to finish off Awami League supporters and possible bases and safe houses being used by freedom fighters were identified. Quddus said Motiur gave orders to finish off Awami League supporters and destroy bases of the freedom fighters. The day after the meeting, Al-Badr forces, in cooperation with Razakars, surrounded Brishlika village and burnt it to the ground.
6. Quddus also said Motiur himself bayoneted to death one Bateswar Saha of Madhabpur village in Sathia PS.
7. In Pabna Motiur led the killing of a young freedom fighter Latif and his group. Latif was only 19 years old and a first year student of Pabna Edward College. Latif's small group was captured by the Pakistani occupation army in an uneven combat at Dhuliuri. They were then handed over to Motiur's gang for execution. Motiur's lieutenants publicly slew Latif's co-fighters with big camp knifes especially used for slaughtering bulls for sacrifice (during Islamic festival called korbani) as a part of Islamic ritual. The bastards in Motiur's group celebrated the killing of the captured freedom fighters with cannibalistic zeal. They gouged Latif's eyes, chopped off his genitalia and tied his dead body on a stick at Shanthia (Badshah, a socialist activist was killed in the same way by one of Motiur's top killer gang-JMJB in May 2004, please see Islamist Extremism in Bangladesh page). Latif's father Sufian Paramanik is a witness to his son's brutal murder and the razakars' frenzied outburst of pleasure in killing the brave sons of the soil.
8. Latif's brother Shahjahan Ali, a freedom fighter himself from Madhabpur village, nearly met the same fate. After slaughtering Shahjahan, along with his co-fighters, in Islamic manner, Motiur's people left him taking him for dead. But Shahjahan was a die hard freedom fighter. The slayer's knife could not take his life. Deadly wounded, Shahjahan lay on ground for hours. Foxes smelled at him, dogs bit him. Fortunately his relatives came by before it was too late and saved his life. Motiur's knife could not take Shahjahan's life, but took away his voice: now Shahjahan is paralyzed and can't talk carrying a big scar on his throat-Motiur's  kiss of death.
Verifiable list of people killed by Motiur and his al-Badr forces:
Mohd Sohrab Ali Profulla Pramanik Bhadu Pramanik
Monu Pramanik Shashati Pramanik Bateswar Saha
Freedom fighter Latif 30 freedom fighters in Latif's group Dara
Chand Muslem Akhter
Kabir
In 1971 Motiur was personally involved in killing of hundreds of Hindus and confiscating their assets and properties. By confiscation and extortion of large amount of money, jewellery and assets from the wealthy Hindu families, Motiur became a millionaire within nine months of the war. During the Sheikh Mujib government (1971-75) Motiur went underground in order to escape conviction as a war criminal. In 1976, as a part of General Zia's razakar rehabilitation program, Motiur resurfaced and took charge as the second in charge of Jamat-e-Islam. Motiur is presently the chief of Jamat-e-Islam.
Besides his involvement in assassination, murder, extortion and confiscation, Nizami is also committed to establish Jamati ideological hegemony (a Maududi version of Islamic fundamentalism) to perpetuate the Islamic fundamentalism in Bangladesh. Since 1976, thanks to the political backing of the so-called freedom fighter Gen Zia and financial generosity of the Islamic countries like Saudi Arab, Iran and Libya, Motiur and his gang invested millions of dollars to open hundreds of Islamic kindergartens around the country. The syllabi and curricula of those kindergartens are based on the precepts of Maudoodi, the spiritual guru of Jamat-e-Islam. This network of schools enabled Jamat-e-Islam to sustain a huge number of their cadres as employees of those schools. From organizational point of view, those schools are a big success for Jamat-e-Islam: it secured them a sustaining source of income (education is the most thriving business in Bangladeshi cities) and employment for its cadres in education industry. But intellectually those schools cripple the students forever as they teach pre Copernican /Ptolemaic world views, orient them to alien Arabic culture and emotionally invest them with jejune Islamic sentiments.
Jamat's goal to render intellectual bankruptcy is not confined to pre school stage only. Motiur successfully expanded its mission to the tertiary level as well. Motiur's wife founded an English medium college in the most aristocratic residential area in Dhaka city. The college boasts of having international educational standard as its name indicates " Manarat International College". The off-springs of the Muslim Bangladeshi elites swarm into that so-called English medium college. Manarat is an English medium college in the limited sense that it disseminates its knowledge in English language. But what constitutes its epistemological corpus? Koran and all forms of Arabic medieval precepts. The graduates from Manarat college are apparently smart (as the definition of smart in Bangladesh means ability to speak trash in English) but intellectually and attitudinally medieval: perfect elements for Islamic fundamentalism. Politically Gholam Azams and Mainuddins are feared monsters, but culturally Motiur's and Saidi's are more corrosive and their impact on society is far reaching.
Other crimes by Motiur Nizami
1. After the election in 2001, Motiur Nizami's armed men forced the members of 20 Hindu families in Pagla Haldar Para, part of Nizami's constituency,  to eat beef. (Daily Janakantha 10 Oct 2004)
2. Although Jamat preaches Wahabism its head Nizami gave a lavish Iftar party in the most expensive hotel in Bangladesh (Sonargaon) on 11 November 2003 when the northern districts of Bangladesh were devastated with famine. In the Iftar party Nizami invited top 550 elites of the country and spent 300,000 taka.

[ALOCHONA] Bangladesh: Crisis imminent

Bangladesh: Crisis imminent

Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury

Political dialogue turn negotiations between the military backed interim government in Bangladesh and political parties, especially with Bangladesh Nationalist Party [BNP] and Jamaat-e-Islami [JI] seems to get into a kind of peculiar but well assumed deadlock. There are clear signs of settlement with Sheikh Hasina and her Awami League, as the main demand of this former Prime Minister was to let her leave the country with the excuse of treatment, leader of BNP and another Prime Minister Khaleda Zia seems to be showing uncompromising attitude in either accepting the offer of leaving Bangladesh only with one of her two imprisoned sons, as well asking her party men to participate in any possible election in the country. After the arrest of JI's amir Moulana Matiur Rahman Nizami, as well possible arrest of its secretary general, it is crystal clear that this party will not accept any pre-condition of the government or even retreat from demanding release of its leader. The government and its force behind should be feeling delighted as Sheikh Hasina is already out of the domestic show by opting for abroad, but, possibly and quite certainly they are not aware of the fact that members of her family in abroad have meanwhile set a well planned propaganda offensives against the present rulers in Dhaka, by placing Hasina at the front.

Sheikh Hasina will also denounce all allegations, fraud and corruption charges, brought against her, once she is abroad, and will also call for international interference into Bangladesh affairs. Those who are acquainted with Sheikh Hasina and her political style may also agree with this opinion. But, of course, allowing Hasina to go abroad for treatment on parole was certainly an excellent example for the government in showing respect to humanitarian side.

Commenting on Sheikh Hasina's bail and natural attention of global media towards her, a senior political analyst in Washington said, being the former Prime Minister as well as freed from prison, Hasina will surely be at the focal point of American and international media. She possibly also is aware of this reality and may use such excellent opportunity in spreading poison against the present military backed interim government in Dhaka as well denouncing all fraud charges, pending in Bangladeshi court. Although many are trying to see Bangladesh scenario with Pakistan, the analyst said, it is completely different from each other. In Pakistan, although Benazir Bhutto was forced to leave Pakistan, her husband Asif Ali Zardari was still in Pakistani prison facing numerous corruption charges. So, Benazir knew with certainty that any over reaction against Musharraf's government would put her husband's fate into complete disaster. But, in case of Sheikh Hasina, members of her entire family are in United States, United Kingdom and Canada. So, naturally she will have no reason to bother, but to foster terrific offensives against the present government. In this case, many of the absconding corrupts [both politicians and businessmen] belonging to Awami League and BNP will come forward in financing such efforts of Hasina.

It is although a fact that US media will mostly be occupied with the upcoming Presidential election while there might be a very limited scope for Hasina in getting continuous presses coverage. On the other hand, once she stays there for several months, it will ultimately isolate her from media's attention. At least, she will fail to attain large attention of the media till United States sees its next president in November. Moreover, Bangladeshi authorities also may monitor the 'treatment' progress of the former Prime Minister. In any case, if such physical ailment excuse by Hasina and some Bangladeshi physicians is found false, it will bring a powerful weapon for Bangladeshi government in showing the world that Sheikh Hasina used fake excuse of physical complications in attaining special favor from the government on humanitarian ground. In this case, Hasina will be taken as a fraud, who escaped possible conviction in Bangladesh using the excuse of physical ailment.

So, whoever predicts a complete 'win-win' situation for Sheikh Hasina might ultimately be struck into being wrong! By taking decision to leave Bangladesh for treatment, Sheikh Hasina is basically stepping into a very risky path. It may either bring her political scope back or even kill it completely.

Now, let us put focus on the case of Bangladesh Nationalist Party [BNP] leader and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. According to latest press reports, she has already declined the possibility of going abroad for treatment. It is invariably a fact that her youngest son, Arafat Rahman Koko is severely ill and deserves to be sent abroad for treatment. Even being the sons of a former General, both Arafat Rahman and Tareq Rahman have the right to seek advanced and better treatment at Combined Military Hospital [CMH] in Bangladesh. Whatever people might say, the government really needs to settle the treatment issue of Arafat Rahman Koko forthwith.

Before discussing the political issues, let us first put focus on some other important happenings in Dhaka in last few days. One of the most influential architects of 1/11 takeover, Lieutenant General Masud Uddin Chowdhury experienced 'ping-pong' shuttle in past few days, as he was first posted as the Commandant of National Defense College and in 24 hours was once again shifted to Foreign Ministry for possible posting as Bangladesh's envoy. Meanwhile, he has also been removed from the post of coordinator of National Committee on Serious Crime. It is well anticipated that, Lt. Gen. Masud will possibly be sent to any least important country, where he will rather enjoy diplomatic privileges, while having no scope of poking nose into Bangladesh affairs any more. It is worth mentioning here, General Masud, although appearing in public to be a very strong and committed individual against corruption, helped his wife's sister and brother-in-law [named Major Sayeed Iskander] from remaining untouched by ACC or any other agencies despite the fact that series of corruption charges are already in circulation against Iskander. During BNP-Islamist Coalition rule, Major [Retired] Sayeed Iskander's name came prominently as one of the most corrupt figures in Bangladesh, who was even considered as the 'Professor of corruption' for former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's sons. Sayeed is the younger brother of Khaleda Zia. Due to General Masud's influence, Sayeed Iskander was not only some how saved from the ongoing drive against corruption, but his business establishments, including a private television channel, continue to run smoothly, without being questioned on the source of money.

Although postings are normal in any services, but General Masud's 'ping-pong' postings are not seen normally either domestically or internationally. On the other hand, there is strong rumor about a new chief of Bangladesh army in less than a month. Although General Moeen U Ahmed appears to be still having strong hold in army, he reportedly is under strong influence of some dubious individuals in Bangladesh, both from political and non-political arena. Mysterious politician in Bangladesh, Sirajul Alam Khan as well as controversial wife of late BNP leader are known to be constant advisors to the number one figure in Bangladesh army. Many of the people hailing from Noakhali [the district wherefrom General Moeen hails] continues to claim to have 'close relations' with the army chief. There are even numerous rumors centering brothers of the influential figure in today's Bangladesh.

There is another news from country's most talked about, Anti Corruption Commission [ACC]. According to reports, chairman of ACC, Lieutenant General Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury [former army chief] has already resigned from his post and went abroad possibly to join an international organization. Difference of opinion grew between Mashhud Chowdhury and some of the key players of the present interim government on various issues, which prompted in resignation of this honest and committed individual. In his service life, Hassan Mashhud Chowdhury was known to be an honest, committed and patriotic individual having intellect and zeal of performing duties with highest standard. One of the reasons of Chowdhury's anger was due to growing tendency within ACC by some corrupt members in blackmailing innocent individuals with various threats. He [Chowdhury] brought this matter to the attention of high-ups in the government, but with no result. Moreover, several influential elements within ACC had been constantly conspiring to oust him from the post of Chairman. It is learnt that various persuasions are continuing to manage Chowdhury in getting him back to the post of ACC chairman. The policymakers in Dhaka are also considering alternative names for this extremely sensitive post.

Although the present interim government in Dhaka continues to say that it is committed in holding next general election by December 2008, it is rightly understood by every quarters that such promises are mere empty. According to experts, there is no hope or signs of holding any election in Bangladesh during this year, at least. Another quarter although argues that, the present interim government may go for an election, boycotted by Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Jamaat-e-Islami and many other political groups, while participated by former military dictator Hussein Muhammed Ershad's Jatiyo Party and some minor parties launched under direct patronization of the present regime in recent days. Some are even predicting that the present regime in Dhaka might have reached into under-table settlement with Hussein Muhammed Erhsad in forming another government with him as the Chief Executive or the President. There is ongoing effort in amending country's constitution; despite the fact that, such task is only for the elected governments.

Now, let me get back to the political future of BNP leader Khaleda Zia. By already rejecting the proposal of going abroad for treatment, Khaleda Zia has once again shown her firmness as well excellent leadership quality as she did in the past. Once Hasina is out of the scene, Khaleda Zia will get into media's prime attention. In this case, Khaleda Zia may even start getting sympathy of the people of Bangladesh for not abandoning her people and taking selfish decision of leaving the country for abroad, when country's future itself is under darkest cloud.

I have no idea who gave this formula of sending Sheikh Hasina as well as Khaleda abroad with the excuse of treatment. Now, in the days to come, Hasina will turn into a potential disturbance for the government in foreign countries, while the growing image of Khaleda Zia at home will also give instigation to people's agitation. Under both the realities and circumstances, Bangladesh is ought to face extreme crisis in the days to come.

[ALOCHONA] Budget 0809 - Review by FBCCI: business friendly

FBCCI terms budget business friendly :Stresses political stability

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry observed that the government tried to make the proposed budget for the fiscal 2008-09 business friendly.
The FBCCI leaders also noted that the interests of exporters were ignored in the budget proposals that contains some discriminatory duty structures providing chance to hit some industrial sectors including, steel sector.

Expressing reactions on the budget proposals, president of the country's apex trade body Annisul Huq feared that a huge deficit in the proposed budget might instigate inflation further.

He also observed that political stability in the country had no alternative to implement any government programme in the budget.

'The business community welcomes the government as it has tried to prepare a business and industry friendly budget,' said Annisul at the trade body's post-budget press conference at its conference room in the city three days after the budget proposals were announced.
After announcement of the budget proposal, the trade body leaders had consulted with the stakeholders and reviewed the proposals.

However, the apex trade body leaders lauded the budget proposal giving chance to individuals to legalise their undisclosed money through paying penalty tax.

Annisul pointed out that the duty cut on raw materials, funding and facilities for SMEs as well as continuation of tax holiday scheme put light on investment-friendly character of the budget proposals.

He lauded increased targets for food procurements, allocations for agriculture sector, spending in social safety programmes and continuation of minimum duty on most of the imported food grains.

The FBCCI chief opposed the proposed no change in the minimum income tax limit at Tk 1.5 lakh for the individuals.

The FBCCI leaders at a meeting with the finance adviser on Thursday morning demanded that the minimum income tax limit should be raised to Tk 2 lakh or above.
They strongly demanded review of the proposed same duty on the imported finished rods and billets as it could hit the local steel industries.

The FBCCI leaders also sought review of the proposed high duty on intermediary raw materials for plastic and rubber industries.
They reiterated that the apex trade body's demand for introducing fixed amount of duty on volume unit of imported milk powder and baby foods, and some non-food commodities, especially the basic metals.

Annisul said that imposition of one per cent duty on import of machineries for export-oriented enterprises and cut in their cash incentives were unjustified.

Regarding tax holiday scheme, he extended thanks to the finance adviser for continuing the facility but observed that the proposed scheme was not as simple as earlier's one.
'Total tax holiday should continue for industries for five years more,' he demanded.
'Increased bank loans by the government will fuels raise on bank rates instigating inflations,' he warned.

Replying to a query, the FBCCI president said process of freeing the two top leaders of the major parties, Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia made him hopeful for holding a meaningful dialogue and successful national election.

Without political stability and establishment of democratic government in the country, national budget or development programmes of the government are very unlikely to boost economy,' he warned.

[ALOCHONA] Re: Treatment abroad: Who needs it more Tarek ?Koko? or Hasina? a great leader cant accept such proposal

Father of Tarek/Coco passed indemnity bill in 1979 so that the murderers
of Hasina's whole family and other innocent civilians never face trials.
Their father rewarded the murderers with lucrative foreign service jobs
and their mother continued the same. Did they show any human feelings
in this case? When Khaleda, Tarek and Coco were ruling Bangladesh as
royals last time, Hasina almost lost her life on Aug 21, 2004. How did
Khaleda and BNP as the ruling authority treat the whole murderous
situation even though when her own party people were patronizing the
terrorists? By blaming Hasina and AL instead? By destroying the
evidence? Diverting the investigation? Arresting and torturing
innocent people? Why does only Hasina have to show human feelings?
When was the time Khaleda acted as a true great leader with genuine
human feelings?

[ALOCHONA] Re: Moeen U Ahmed in Kuwait

Dear Mr. Ejazur

My apologies. I cannot write fast like you and I did not had that much time to spare to reply to your posting in time.

Mr. Ejazur again my intention is not to embarrass you, but only for your knowledge I should tell you that not only one but there are many restaurants in Sheraton Kuwait and there is not only one but there are many restaurants in Crowne Plaza Kuwait. The average cost of one meal per person in the restaurants in Sheraton Kuwait is 9-12 KD. The average cost of one meal per person in Crowne Plaza is also in the same range. How much you save per meal depends upon in which restaurant you are taking your meal and not in which Hotel as both these hotels are classified as 5 star hotels. I am not very sure about Crowne Plaza but for sure Sheraton Kuwait gives special discounts to employees of certain organizations like KNPC, KOC, and KPC etc. One more clarification, Crowne Plaza Kuwait has 2 ballrooms at its basement and each one accommodates around 500 persons.

Mr. Ejazur your posting is full of fallacies. I don't think nobody can wake you up as you prefer to keep your eyes closed. I pray that God gives you the strength and ability to comprehend and understand the present crisis prevailing in the country. You seem to support the poor General so enthusiastically that you start to exaggerate to justify his wrong doings. (I used the word exaggerate).

As usual you seem interested in my politics. Mr. Ejazur may I know your politics? Which political camp you belonged to before 1/11?  Mr. Ejazur why you are interested in my politics? If I have said something wrong, tell me it is wrong. Put up your arguments and I may agree with you. The situation right now is that if someone asks how somebody managed to sneak in VIP lounge you start brawling about the dalals of BNP and AL. Sorry Mr. Ejazur nobody asked why the Gen. choose a 5 star hotel for his meeting but you started to defend the Gen. What people should call you then?

I don't disagree that there was corruption, mismanagement and what not in the last 36 years (and in the last 15 years if that makes you happy). That does not mean at all that nothing was done during this time. Yes we could and we should have prospered more.. But we still feel proud when we see nice garments made in Bangladesh in leading stores in Europe, North America and Middle East. I will be injustice if you give the credit of it to Army rule.

And Mr. Ejazur I did not want to bring the most recent events in the country in this discussion. Look how the things have boomeranged. If I describe it in one sentence, your General has ambitions; unfortunately he does not have the talents.

So Mr. Ejazur join with me. Let us call spade a spade. What is wrong is wrong. What is right is right. Don't see who said it. Listen what he said.
