FW: [Diagnose] FW: [ALOCHONA] Rice is the Worst Enemy of Mankind - By Bashir Mahmud Ellias

Dear Mr. Kabir,

Thank you so much for your very valuable information. Hating rice by the people of a rice producing country like us, shall constitute nothing but, a quite unproductive and destructive effort. If negativity towards rice production spreads around the country, a lot of lives will soon be lost. It must be our national duty to spend our time and efforts, whenever and whatever way possible, towards increasing the production of rice utilizing intensive research, modern technology, better quality seeds, better yielding varieties, better quality species that are able to fight more diseases and droughts or floods, etc. In order to be able to improve the production of rice in our country, we must try to do whatever way we can. China and Japan achieved a lot in this endeavor. We should reach them for better training, and learning more from them in this field.  Of course, we shall have to learn the versatility also in our food consumption, such that in case of scarcity in one type of staple, we may easily shift our habit in eating and surviving, at least temporarily, such that the famine, monga, or high price of rice do not kill our people who can not afford to have rice as the food. I wish we would improve the food situation in our country as a combined effort of the people of the country, and even seeking the experties of the foreigners, whenever necessary and are available. These are just my thoughts.

Thanks a lot.

Regards,
KR

Thanks Mr. K. Raisuddin for your nice mail, now i add a new point in favour of rice that rice is one of the main source of protein in our country. The information may coufused you and other people but it is true. Rice and only rice meet up about 80% of total calorie need in our country where majority of our people live below poverty line, we should thaked almighty Allah that rice contain 7-8% protein. This information is not familier to all but the people who deals with nutrition and food science must agree with me. Though rice is not a source of protein, the amount of rice we take daily as food meet a considerable amount of our daily need of protein. On the other hand most of our people have not enough money to buy protein rich foods like fish or meat.
On an average an adult people need 1g protein/kg body weight and if an adult person eat 400g of rice daily then approximately 50% of his protein come from rice. So dont blame rice as enemy, we should greatful to rice.
The limiting amino acids of rice are Lysine and Isoleucine, so in this case we my mix rice with pulses which are rich in these amino acids that may supplement each other.

Thanks to all

Subject: [Diagnose] FW: [ALOCHONA] Rice is the Worst Enemy of Mankind - By Bashir Mahmud Ellias

Dear All,

Rice  is  the  worst  enemy  of  mankind - This is a wrong statement. Rice like wheat, barley, potato, maze, corn, dates, grapes, watermelons, too sweet fruits, etc. are the supplier of excessive amount of carbohydrates, if eaten in excessive amounts. The genetic programs in mankind have been written in the codes of carbohydrate. It is the main source of energy for humans and many other living beings.  Carbohydrate metabolizes and produce energy like gasoline/diesel etc. do produce mechanical power for running the vehicles. Carbohydrates are broken down into glucose, which is the "fuel" that gives our bodies energy. Insulin's important job is to help glucose get into the body's cells. Insulin Helps Build Muscle in the body. Glucose gets inside the cells of the body with the help of insulin and produces energy for the body. Carbohydrates provide the energy for the body to function. Carbohydrate can be metabolized only with insulin that body produces. Some people can not produce enough insulin to metabolize the required amount of carbohydrate to convert into body's need of energy. These people have type 2 diabetes. Some people can not produce insulin at all. They have type 1 diabetes. Medication, diet and exercise can take care of the diabetes problem. It is not curable but is manageable at present. In future, cures may be invented by the medical and bio-researchers.

After eating the carbohydrate (no matter it is from rice, wheat, barley, potato, maze, corn), it gets digested in the stomach, producing the main ingredient called glucose. Insulin looks for the glucose in the body. Insulin is like a key that opens up the locks on the body's cells so that glucose get into body's cells. If the glucose can't get into the cells, it builds up in the blood stream and people become diabetic. If the diabetics is left untreated, high blood glucose can cause long-term complications. Additionally, when blood sugar reaches a certain level, the kidneys try to get rid of it through urine - which means that you'll need to urinate more often. Frequent urination can make someone feel tired, thirsty, or hungry. S/he may also start losing weight.

The body also gets energy from a complex sugar called glycogen, which is stored in the liver and muscles. The liver converts glycogen to glucose and releases it into the body's bloodstream when someone is under stress and/or when  extremely hungry. When enough insulin is present, muscles can use their glycogen for energy, but cannot release it directly into the blood. In type 2 diabetes, the liver releases too much glucose, especially at night (when the liver normally releases some glucose), resulting in high blood sugar levels in the morning. Insulin injections help bring down the amount of glucose released by the liver during the night, bringing morning blood sugars levels back to normal. When someone is sick or injured, or if someone is recovering from surgery, insulin helps to heal by bringing amino acids (the building blocks of muscle protein) to the muscles. Amino acids repair muscular damage and help them regain their size and strength. If there isn't enough insulin in someones' body when the muscles been injured, amino acids can't do their job, and the muscles can remain damaged and very weak.

When the author is saying, "....rice  is  our  worst  national  enemy.  Rice  is  such  a  prominent  food  item  which  contains  excessive  amount  of  sugar (carbohydrate) .  So  it  hastens  our  physical  growth  &   we  become  adult (mature)  very  quickly.  That's  why  we  get  married  promptly  &  start  having  babies  more  speedily.  Sometimes  it  seems  to  me  that  just  a  few  days  ago  a  guy  who  himself  was  a  baby,  now  he  is  completely  exhausted (-fagged-worn- out)  being  a  father  or  grandfather  of  many  children.  That  means  eating  rice  is  the  root  cause  of  population  explosion  in  such  a  dreadful  manner."  - Why someone has to eat excessive amount of rice to have excessive amount of carbohydrate? . It is not the problem of rice, it is the problem of someone's bad habit of filling the stomach with excessive amount of rice. It is not only rice, if excessive amount of wheat, barley, potato, maze, corn, dates, grapes, watermelons, too sweet fruits, etc., all will supply excessive amount of carbohydrate if eaten in excessive amount. So, whatever type of carbohydrate is eaten, most important thing to know, how much of these foods, contain how much carbohydrate and how much is the daily carbohydrate requirement for an individual. based on that information, eat only the required amount of carbohydrate, not more or not too less. Eat other things in addition to carbohydrates such as protein (meat, fish, egg, tofu, etc.), vegetables, fruits, salads, lots of liquid (at minimum, double the amount of solid, shall be the liquid in the meals). Please fill the stomach with all the other food ingredients than just the carbohydrates. Don't blame the rice or any carbohydrates (that are very essential for the energy of the body), blame the bad eating habits. Brain tissues basically live and function with the energy of carbohydrates.

People become habituated in foods that are abundant in an area. Bangladeshis are mostly habituated in Rice, Fish, Vegetables, and Fruits because they are abundantly grown there compared to the other types of human foods. That is why the people of china-india- indonesia- thailand- japan-korea eat rice abundantly. It is not true that the rice just produced so many people. It is the life-style, weather, environment, social norms, peoples' habits that caused over populations, not just the rice.

The author states that hundreds  of  diseases  can  be  named  having  link  with  this  notorious  rice. This is a very wrong and over statement. Rice is sometimes the cure for many dieses rather than causing hundreds of dieses. Rice water cures dehydration. Rice water is often the treatment for gastro-intestinal disorders for the minors. Eating excess of rice may make someone sick but it is not the rice, it is the human habit and the ignorance about food ingredients. Excess of everything is bad. Specifically consuming any excess food is seriously bad.

The author wrote, "Some  people  think  that  illiteracy  is  the  main  problem  in  the  way  of  our  national  prosperity.  In  this  point  we  can  say  that  poverty  is  responsible  for  illiteracy,  over-population  is  responsible  for  poverty  &  rice  is  responsible  for  over-population.  Recently  many  people  are  claiming  that  corruption  is  our  chief  national  problem.  Think  in  this  way  that  poverty-illiteracy- unawareness  is  responsible  for  corruption  &  in  our  country  the  primary  cause  of  poverty  &  illiteracy  is  overpopulation.  Population  not  being  a  blessing  rather  has  become  a  curse  &  rice  is  wholly  responsible  for  this  kind  of  consequence.  So  we  have  to  entirely  give  up  the  habit  of  eating  rice  from  right  now  &  start  having  wheat  bread  in  order  to  build  a  healthy  &  happy  nation.  But  our  women  community  are  more  interested  in  cooking  rice  than  baking  wheat  bread." - It appears that the author is quite ignorant about many things and that is precisely our national problem, and definitely not rice. If someone is not ignorant and precisely know how much rice is needed for daily consumption for maintaining good health s/he is in good shape. Have stomach full  of only rice and then start blaming the rice is really a serious twist in the fact. Only an idiot can think of replacing the rice as staple with wheat because the production of wheat in bangladesh is very limited but rice is produced in abundance, not only someone wants to do so, it is the soil condition, monsoon, water, weather, temperature, and thousands of years of know-how to produce rice, made it happen. Does the author want people starve. If someone is that ignorant, should not spread his ignorance all the world over. Chepe jawa bhalo. It is the illiteracy which is our main national problem, not rice. Rice producers must be encouraged and helped by researches for better productions, better technology, better seeds, enhanced procedures in cultivation and harvesting, such that the country can become self sufficient in the staples. Other foods must be tried to grow and produce, but the plan shall be realistic that becomes result oriented, not just based on the hypes. Over-population shall be controlled by proper education, family planning, assessing means to be able to support and educate the children, innovation, privatization, and achieving overall skill growths for all spectrum of the population. It is not only the number of people to see for overpopulation but counting the number of unskilled, unproductive, and ignorant people in the society. Japan is overpopulated but the second richest country in the worlds after USA because of their skilled people in the nation.  Similarly Bangladesh can be converted from scarring humans into human resources, if can be made everybody skilled utilizing their good hard work to produce and create wealth by the efforts of the self; rather than being engaged in hoarding and corruptions just being motivated to try to live on someone else's wealth. Corruption is the biggest problem of Bangladesh, not the rice, that is keeping 160 million people living. Without enough rice production, this enormous population would not survive. Don't listen to this author and do not blame the rice. Blame the bad food habits. Just be curious and learn the good habits in consuming foods, do hard work, do necessary exercise, take minimum medications if at all needed, avoid grease, keep yourself lean and strong, have good sleep, avoid stress, laugh as much as you can, you will be OK. Blaming the women community ( is a sign of chauvinism) not to want to make bread is really ridiculous. Women are not a different part of any society. It is the chauvenist male who sees it that way, and it is an utmost ignorance. Please understant the structure of the human society first, before advising the others, not to eat rice. Wheat by no means is better as a human food than rice. It is the wrong perception, not a reality. Thay are all carbohydrates. Difference is made in the amount, not in the kinds. A sudden unnecessary change from one food to other is rather bad for health, taste, attitude, and contentment.

Genetically Modified (GM) food has caused havoc in the western world specifically by the fast food industries that have the widespread selling the genetically modified (GM) meat, poultries, fruits, veetables, fish and other types of foods. In many countries genetically modified (GM) food that are causing enormous problems for the people are being legally band. Not all genetically modified (GM) foods are bad but must remain careful and watch the results of GM intakes.

Thanks and have agreat day.

Regards,
KR

Subject: [ALOCHONA] Rice is the Worst Enemy of Mankind - By Bashir Mahmud Ellias

Rice  is  the  worst  enemy  of  mankind

What  is  the  main  obstacle  of  our  country's (Bangladesh)  development (-prosperity- improvement-
betterment) ?  If  it  is  asked,  certainly  different  people  will  give  different  answers.  But  if  you  analyze  it  from  the  view-point  of  medical  science,  then  I  will  say  rice  is  our  worst  national  enemy. That  means  eating  rice  is  the  root  cause  of  population  explosion  in  such  a  dreadful  manner.  If  you  don't  believe  you  can  look on  the  rice  eating  countries,  like  china-india- indonesia- thailand- japan-korea,  all  of  them  are  going  through  population  problem  in  highest  degree.  For  the  unimaginable  explosion  of  population,  government  become  a  failure  even  spending  billions  of  dollar  annually  to  provide  our  basic  needs  like  food,  cloth,  residence,  education  &  health.  Rice  not  only  make  us  adult (mature)  very  quickly,  but  also  rapidly  converts  us  to  old  guys.  As  a  result  we  become  incompetent (worthless)  for  any  jobs  and  turn  to  a  burden  to  the  family (thus to  the  society  &  country).  As  because  in  old  age  we  lack  energy  to  work  &  various  diseases  invade  our  body  &  mind.  In  our  country  almost  ninety  percent  of  people  found  to  be  have  gastric  ulcer  who  visits  doctor.  Excessive  amount  of  sugar  in  rice  causes  flatulency (gas)  in  the  stomach  and  gas  formation  tends  to  the  acidity  &  ulcer.  Perhaps  nobody  will  deny  the  fact  that  rice  is  the  root  cause  of  diabetes.  You  will  not  find  gastric  ulcer  &  diabetes  epidemic  in  those  countries  where  bread (wheat)  is  the  main  food  item.  Now  I  am  to  say  that  this  poor  country  has  to  waste  millions  of  dollars  every  year  to  import  the  medicines  only  for  this  two  diseases.

Some  may  say  that  most  of  the  medicines  of  this  two  diseases  are  manufactured  in  our  country.  Yea,  that's  right ;  but  raw  materials,  machinery,  packing  items  all  are  have  to  imported.  There  are  many  pathological  test  done  to  diagnose  these  diseases  and  these  diagnostic  machineries  &  chemical  reagents  are  also  have  to  import  spending  lot  of  foreign  currencies.  Yet  we  can  ignore  the  squandering  of  invaluable  time (working  hour)  in  the  doctor's  chamber,  hospital  &  sick-bed.  Not  only  these  two  diseases  but  hundreds  of  diseases  can  be  named  having  link  with  this  notorious  rice.  You  may  say  that  laziness  is  the  main  obstacle  in  the  way  of  our  country's  development  rather  than  rice.  Then  I  will  say  that  rice  creates  laziness  in  our  body  &  mind.  The  excessive  amount  of  sugar/carbohydrate  in  rice  is  the  real  cause  of  laziness.  As  it  is  usually  seen  we  become  exhausted  from  least  exertion,  excessive  amount  of  sugar  in  rice  is  responsible  for  this  situation.  As  rice  contains  immoderate  amount  of  sugar  &  after  eating  rice  it  is  digested  quickly  &  the  principal  ingredient (sugar)  is  quickly  absorbed  in  our  bloodstream  &  the  sugar  level  suddenly  become  high,  so  we  begin  to  feel  drowsy,  weak  &  lazy  like  a  diabetic  patient.  You  can  say,  Japanese (, Chinese  &  Koreans)  are  also  rice  eater  &  still  they  are  not  lazy (like  us);  on  the  contrary  they  are  very  much  active  &  hardworking  &  they  don't  become  tired  from  little  labor.  Yea,  in  this  regard  they  got  some  climatic  advantage.  They  don't  sweat  so  much  even  during  hard  work  because  of  their  cold  weather,  as  we  do.  As  a  result  they  don't  break-away  easily  from  little  labour  like  us.  Moreover  people  of  Mongolian  origin (flat-nose)  are  anthropologically  very  much  energetic  &  industrious.  On  the  contrary  we  sweat  much  because  of  our  hot  &  damp  weather  and  that's  why  we  get  easily  tired,  exhausted  through  losing  essential  mineral  salts  with  sweats.  So  excess  sugar  in  rice  &  excess  sweating  both  are  equally  responsible  for  our  laziness,  debility  &  inactivity.

Somebody  may  say  that  poverty  is  our  most  vital  problem.  If  you  think  little  deeply  then  you  will  realize  that  rice  is  the  basic  cause  of  our  incurable  poverty.  As  because  if  we  fill  our  stomach  with  rice  unto  the  nose,  it  will  digest  &  absorbed  so  quickly  that  within  two  hours  we  will  become  hungry  again.  So  we  have  to  eat  too  much  &  our  expenditure  on  food  purpose  become  high  &  it  force  us  to  reduce  expenditure  on  other  fields (like  health,  education,  infrastructure  etc) .  Look  at  our  physical  strength  or  (slender)  physical  structure ;  both  are  ridiculous,  pathetic.  And  the  notorious  (black  sheep)  rice  is  responsible  for  this  poor  status.  You  will  obviously  understand  the  demerits  of  rice  if  you  compare  the  physical  structure  of  rice-eater  Indians,  Chinese  &  Indonesians  with  wheat-eater  Arabian,  European  &  American.  You  will  certainly  notice  that  players  of  rice-eating  countries  can  not  do  much  well  in  the  strenuous  games  (like  football,  cricket,  marathon,  wrestling  etc).  The  reason  is  same  and  that  is  if  we  eat  rice  our  blood  sugar  level (energy)  rises  to  the  highest  level  for  a  short  time  &  then  it  again  reduce  to  an  alarmingly  lowest  position.  On  the  contrary,  if  you  eat  wheat (bread)  it  will  digest  steadily  taking  much  time  &  that's  why  your  blood  sugar  level  will  not  suddenly  jump  to  highest  level  for  a  little  while.  As  a  result  your  calorie/ energy  level  will  remain  in  standard  position  comparatively  for  longer  time.  Like  rice  it  does  not  suddenly  rise  to  the  highest  level  &  then  fall  to  the  lowest  level.  If  we  do  not  start  eating  wheat  bread  quickly  in  stead  of  rice,  then  the  millions  of  dollars  our  government  is  wasting  every  years  for  family  planning,  will  have  to  continue  for  how  many  years  Allah  knows !  On  the  contrary,  governments  of  the  wheat-eater  countries  (like  Middle  east,  Australia,  Europe,  America  etc)  are  facing  failure  to  increase  their  population  even  offering  billion  dollars  bonus  to  their  couples.

Some  people  think  that  illiteracy  is  the  main  problem  in  the  way  of  our  national  prosperity. But  our  women  community  are  more  interested  in  cooking  rice  than  baking  wheat  bread.  As  because  cooking  rice  is  very  easy  but  baking  wheat  bread  is  much  hard.  At  the  same  time  women  should  think  that  to  eat  rice  we  need  to  cook  many  delicious  curry  but  to  eat  wheat  bread  these  are  not  essential.  Only  potato  fry  or  pulse's  soup  is  enough.  At  this  case  we  can  buy  seasonal  fruits  with  the  money  usually  spent  for  vegetables.  That  would  be  also  better  for  our  health.  As  the  vegetables  price  is  sky-high,  it  would  be  wise  to  consume  one  kilogram  fruits  in  lieu  of  three  kilogram  vegetables.  As  we  know  vegetables  contain  less  nutrient  &  yet  most  of  them  are  spoiled  by  heat  during  cooking.  To  save  our  women  from  the  hazard  of  baking  wheat  bread,  the  owner  of  hotel,  restaurant  &  food  industry  can  play  a  vital  role.  They  have  to  given  up  the  habit  of  preparing  incredibly  small  &  thin  bread  fried  with  six  month  old  burnt  oil  &  rather  have  to  begin  making  mega-size  wheat  bread  like  middle  east  countries,  one  of  which  is  enough  for  an   entire  family.  Moreover  we  can  make  wheat  bread  machine  available  in  every  family  like  Europe  &  America.  Some  may  argue  that  wheat  flour  is  more  costly  than  rice,  but  at  the  same  time  they  should  also  consider  the  facts  of  various  diseases  like  diabetes  &  premature  senility.

According  to  expert,  wheat  flour's  price  can  be  easily  reduced  by  mixing  corn  maze  with  it.  We  should  also  think  about  huge  amount  of  water  needed  to  produce  paddy (rice),  which  will  be  a  real  problem  in  our  country  in  near  future.  On the contrary  so  much  water  is  not  necessary  for  the  cultivation  of  wheat.  To  acquire  hundred  percent  benefit  from  eating  wheat  bread  we  have  to  consume  unfiltered  natural  flour ;  because  the  food  companies (market  packed  flour)  greatly  reduce  its  nutrient  quality  by  excessively  straining  it (to  make  flour  white).  So  our  request  to  the  government  is  that  govt.  should  encourage  people  to  produce  &  consume  wheat  every  way  (and  discourage  the  rice).  If  it  is  necessary  we  can  depend  on  &  produce  genetically modified (GM)  wheat.  As  GM  food  has  gained  acceptance  in  Europe  &  America,  then  we  should  not  remain  hesitated  about  it.  Moreover  our  holy  prophet (pbuh)  has  given  his  opinion  in  favor  of  genetically modified (GM)  food.  In  one  of  his  sayings  he  said,  'in  the  last  age  there  will  be  superabundance  of  food  grains'.  That  means  people  rice,  wheat,  onion,  garlic,  fruit,  vegetables  etc  of  mega-size  will  be  invented  &  people  will  be  obliged  to  consume  those (to  get  ride  of  famine).

RE: [ALOCHONA] Bangladesh - The Next Afghanistan

Whether we like it or not, sadly...it is a possibility...in long term. because 1 important reason is, lots of poor people, who are surviving somehow, will one day question the integreity, morality and dedication
of all the rich and powerful people in the community.

What will be the answer...and who will give the answer?

Ezajur bhai...you make some very good points, and I share your fear over re-criminalization of our legislative and executive.

If anything....anything at all...has to change in BD after the election is someone's willingness to enforce the law of the land. Not divine laws, not arbitrary laws, no village laws. Just uphold the constitution, criminal and civil code, and just enforce the law. I don't care if that person is an AL or BNP supporter. As long as they are going to enforce the law, I will support them.

Having done some work with the Obama campaign in NY, I can tell you this much....one of the fundamental change that Obama has promised, and as a Constitutional Law professor has committed to uphold, is the enforcement of law. During the last eight years, laws have been broken, misinterpreted, abused, and thrown away. We all know the consequences.

We don't need an Obama. We need someone brave enough. We need someone or some people at the top of the government, who will look at the country's judicial system, reach out to the law enforcement, and enforce them. This could imprison a large portion of the politicians, business people, as well as law enforcement officials. But that will only strengthen our democracy. A true democracy can only rely upon the laws of the land. Unfortunately, since our independence, it is the law of the land that have been grossly abused in BD.

Let's keep praying that it would come true.

And this is precisely why change must come in the large part with a
new set of faces. Whilst Obama's transition team has many Clintonites
it has new people as well. And of course the newest new person is
Obama himself.

In Bangladesh what exactly is the newest thing we will have after the
next election? Well I know criminal dalals who have left Kuwait and
are busy now seeking AL and BNP nomination in the upazilla and
parliamentary elections. Maybe these guys will be new : )

In Bangladesh being a tout or a pimp won't stop your nomination as an
MP in either AL and BNP. Thats one of the great things about our
democracy -

We Are All Equal In The Eyes Of Politcians.

And that brings us neatly to one of the common dirty political
techniques in Bangladesh - making everyone equal, good and bad, and
painting oneself as 'magnanimous' at the same time. If you have been
involved in Bangladeshi organisational culture you will understand
this well.

Its one of the reasons why no more than two dozen really decent
people exist in public life in a nation of 150 milion plus.

Sick.

RE: [ALOCHONA] Bangladesh - The Next Afghanistan

Mr. Ezajur Rahman,

Can't agree with you more. Afghanistan has the courageous history of resilience. They kicked out all foreign aggressors in history - unlike many countries who catapooled to so called independence after licking ruler's throne like that of Mountbatten's wife's feet.

Welcome to view photos of such a licking..

We got our independence too soon and that's why we have thus far not valued the loss of millions of lives that were lost to Pakistani atrocities. Afghanistan is a great country and I salute the struggling people there. The lawless communist activities are surrounding us from all around. Can you all sense that? In the name of secularism atheism is rooting down into our culture

Dear Alochoks

I was looking for a book on Bangladesh to send to my nephew as a gift and I found this horrible title!!!!

It's an absurd title!

Either the author doesn't know Bangladesh or he doesn't know Afghanistan!

[mukto-mona] Islam Never Had It This Good

http://islam-watch.org/MuminSalih/Islam-Never-this-Good.htm

Islam Never Had It This Good

We live in strange times; only a few decades ago nobody with interest in Islamic matters could have predicted the scale of the Islamic resurgence that has swept the world. Today, Islam is a truly global religion that is no more confined to the Muslims' countries but has reached all corners of the world. Islamic words like jihad, sharia and hijab have become parts of all languages. Nowadays, on daily basis, Muslims practice terrorism, which they call jihad, on daily basis and seem to get away with it, or even get praised as peace loving people.

Even though many Muslim countries are excessively rich but they do not have any responsibilities towards the welfare of the world's impoverished. The Gulf Arabs are among the richest people on earth but spend their wealth lavishly on a modern Arabian night's life style and allowed to get away with only nominal contributions to the world's charities. The human rights record in the Gulf States is appalling by all standards but they seem to get away with it. When the Muslims' terrorists attacked Madrid in 2004, the Spanish people responded by electing the party favoured by the Muslim terrorists to form a government. The Muslims terrorists attacked America on 9/11 and declared war on the American people, but only seven years later the Americans elected a Muslims' favourite to the white house.
Islam related activities are dominating everyday news, and they are always bad news. The shadow of the Islamic terror has changed our lives for the worse, possibly forever. Our security, travel and freedom of expression are only a few of the many casualties of the Islamic renaissance. What makes all this especially painful is that it is happening against all the natural laws that control human behaviours. The Muslims nations in general are among the least developed in the world, their survival depends completely on the technological, and in most cases, the financial help they receive from their enemies, yet they seem to be able to get away with anything. I cannot help wondering is this the golden age of Islam?

Islam half a century ago

I grew up in the Middle East in the 1950s and 1960s and remember well how the Arabs looked up at the west with admiration to their life style and a desire to follow their example. Doctors and other professionals who had their education in Europe or America were 'westernized' to some degree and were respected in their societies and were considered good examples to follow. On the other hand, the word 'ikhwanji', which means a member of the Muslim brotherhood or an Islamist, was a dirty word associated with backward thinking. The applicants for the 'sharia' colleges were those with the least marks in the high schools. I remember that the sharia colleges used to have a high proportion of disabled and blind students, who stood no chance of making it to the other universities, which sadly reflected the social and moral injustice in the Arab society. The vast majority of the students in the sharia college in Damascus rejected the traditional Islamic dress and opted for an ordinary western style look. Even the Al Azhar University, which was the undisputed leader in Islamic education, was transformed to teach modern sciences like Medicine, chemistry and physics to both sexes. Only a minority of the teaching staff and a handful of the male students had beards and even fewer girls wore headscarves, and that was in Al Azhar!

The traditional hostility to secularism among the Middle Eastern Arabs started to wane as more and more Arabs were happy to copy the western model, not because they loved the west but because they admired their achievements. Muslims outside the Arab World, lead by Turkey which used to be for centuries the centre of the Islamic khilafa, were also moving towards secularism. Islam didn't seem to have a chance and there were indications that it would remain confined to the mosques.

Against all the odds, Islam was revived and the kiss of life came from the most unlikely rescuer- the west. We generally blame the Saudi oil money for the resurgence of Islam but I put the blame mainly on the west. Saudi Arabia and its oil wealth as well as the Muslims brotherhood movement have all been with us since the 1920s with little effect on the Islamization of the world or the Middle East. If anything, there were signs of a receding Islamic influence even in Saudi Arabia itself. The country was humiliated by a series of embarrassing defections of senior members of the Saudi air force to what then was considered a secular Egypt. A group of members of the royal family led by the current prince Talal Ibn AbdulAziz also defected to Egypt, but the climax was when King Saud himself defected, again to Egypt, after a conflict with his brother Faisal.

The fortunes of Islam changed completely in the 1970s when the west opened its gates to the Islamists. The influx of Muslims to the west, and the generous welcome and support they received had only one equal in the history of Mankind, which happened in the year 622 AD. That was the year when Mohammed and his companions emigrated from Mecca to Yathrib. The Arabs of Mecca, called Quraysh, knew Mohammed well because he was one of them. The Quraysh treated Mohammed with the contempt he deserved; they isolated him as they would do with any mad person. On the other hand the Aws and Khazraj, who were the Arabs of Yathrib, made him welcome and sheltered him. It didn't take Mohammed long to take over his host city from its accommodating inhabitants, change its name and enforce his sharia law on what has become an Islamic state. There were a handful of people in Yathrib who tried to stop the madness, like Ibn Ibu salul, but nobody would listen to them. The word Islamophobia was not invented yet so they were branded as munafikeen.

This is exactly what happened to Mohammed's followers in the last forty years, who also were disliked by their own people, but were sheltered and made welcome in the west. My only worry with this comparison is that the Aws and Khazraj ceased to exist after their excessive generosity.

Jihad: Muslims' license to kill

Out of all the Islamic practices jihad is the most revered and the most applauded and the only one that guarantees straight entrance to the most elite quarter of paradise. Muslims, of course, never run out of reasons to practice jihad.

In these strange times, we deal with a new variety of jihad which is the international jihad. It never happened before that Muslims managed to build an international network of organizations that practice jihad in their host countries and still get the protection of the law. There was no moment in history when the enemy was able to work from within and survives. Throughout history and until a few decades ago it was inconceivable to imagine that Muslim terrorists would be able to enter the countries they plan to destroy, practice their hate and live on the benefits they earn from the victims they plan to kill. Muslims have been very imaginative in using the current opportunities to practice jihad, which now involves all aspects of human activities whether it is military, media campus, finance or cyber jihad. Muslims have taken terrorism (jihad) to previously unknown frontiers like suicide bombings of civilians, hostage beheadings and stoning on television, and shootings of children in schools. Jihad through terrorism has become part of our lives and Muslims make sure that their evil trade mark is recognized all over the world by videotaping their 'Islamic culture' on television and the internet.

Muslims managed to intimidate the entire world, in the name of Islam, and still get praised as peace loving people who follow a peace loving religion. The Quran openly incites Muslims to kill the infidels but none of the infidels' countries allow objective criticism of the Quran. Even the state of Israel, which the Quran describes its citizens as pigs and monkeys and calls for its destruction, doesn't allow open discussions of Islam to expose its real nature. The Human rights groups main concerns seem to be the welfare of these cold-blooded Muslim terrorists in Europe, America, Guantanamo or any part of the world.

It is remarkable that none of the Muslims' successes against their enemies can be attributed to extraordinary power or intelligence; their barbaric jihad succeeds only because their enemies are comfortable with defeat. When the west fights this atrocious enemy, the rules of engagement are often to avoid confrontation. When dealing with the Islamic terrorists, the first thing that comes to light is their human rights. It caught my eyes, as I write this article, the latest piracy success by the Somalis against shipping in the Indian ocean. The Somalis have been in action for a long time and managed to capture hundreds of ships. It is incomprehensible that all those western navies with billions of dollars worth of equipment can be so helpless against a handful of bandits armed with AKs. At least in theory, the war seems to be between the two extremes of power, the strongest and the weakest. I couldn't work out why the weakest seems to win most of the times until I read this morning that the royal navy is reluctant to capture the pirates because it would a breach of their human rights if they send them back to their countries!

Even though the pirates are Muslims who start their operations by saying Allahu Akbar and end it by saying Alhamdulillah, it is remarkable that no one refers to them as Muslims. Of course, it would be offensive to associate Islam with terrorism or piracy. The irony is that the Somalis find it offensive to call them anything other than Muslims who follow the footsteps of their prophet. What these Muslims are doing is an exact replica to Islams' most celebrated battle- the battle of Badr except that Mohammed practiced his jihad in the desert while his followers are practicing it in the seas.

Oil: The life-line of terrorism

Oil comes mainly from the Islamic countries. Although it is convenient, but it is a dirty source of energy and is probably the least suitable. I find it hard to understand that even though we do not stop talking about the environmental hazards of oil, it is still the world's favourite source of energy. We have the technologies and the capabilities to harness the solar or wind powers and we can produce cars that run on alternative fuel. It is difficult to justify our dependence on oil in the presence of so many natural alternatives. Now there is even a more compelling reason to wean ourselves from oil, which is the fact that jihad, or Islamic terrorism, is the Gulf States favourite charity. It is no secret that the terrorist organizations thrive on the oil money.

In the Gulf States, terms like 'environmentally friendly' or 'carbon footprint' do not mean much to the Arabs. The scenes of Arabs walking or cycling to work are missing from the streets of Dubai, Kuwait or Doha. Even in the west, where there is an increasing awareness about the environment, you do not see Arabs cycling to work. The Arabs and Muslims in general, behave as if they are exempt from worrying about the planet. They generally lead an easy life and leave it to the westerners to suffer of the carbon guilt while they continue to produce oil and consume it in abundance.

Oil existed in the Islamic countries for millions of years until it was discovered by the western companies. The Muslims had no idea what oil was or how to dig it out or how transport it, which is all done for them by the infidels. The Muslims role had been limited to earning the money and enjoying all the luxiouries. The Gulf States have been transformed from small desert communities to some of the most amazing cities in the world. Thanks to the foreign infidels, it all happened without the Gulf Arabs getting their hands dirty by building a single block; again it is all done for them by the infidels.

Abuse of wealth

A wealthy Arab doesn't live like a wealthy westerner. In the Gulf you do not find the likes of Bill Gates or Richard Branson but you find people whose lives have no purpose other than total indulgence in a kind of modern Arabian nights' luxuries. They contribute only token donations to world charities, which they usually give when the beneficiaries are Muslims.

Even though some of the donations to the western universities appear to be generous but they are designed mainly to promote Islam. The Saudis have funded many Islamic study centres in some of the best universities in the world; it is astonishing that none of those centres have discussed the Quran, Islam or Mohammed with any academic objectivity. The Muslims in general and the Gulf Arabs in particular, seek domination through their wealth.

Human rights violations

The Gulf States were forced to abandon slavery in the 1960s but the slavery culture never died in the minds of the Gulf Arabs. The slavery culture still exists under new names and new legislations. Every Arab household has at least one servant, usually more, who is treated like a slave and does the work that used to be done by slaves. Those servants work continuously 24/7 in the house and live in basic accommodation within the premises. The servants follow their employers (masters) wherever they go to look after their needs. The Arab men and women have absolutely nothing to do as it all has been taken care of by the modern slavery. Those servants are imported mainly from Asia but others come from Africa. The servants are poor, young and vulnerable and soon become brainwashed to believe that they are lucky to be selected to work under those conditions. It is common for the servants to be subjected to physical abuses and rapes that are covered up in most of the cases. Most of the servants are insecure and unaware of their rights and live in continuous fear, the worst of which is the fear of being named and shamed back in their communities. This is especially true for the unfortunate women who happen to get pregnant, following rape or illegal sex, and then seek the help of their employers to illegally terminate their pregnancies. Such women may spend their lives serving their employers with the hope their secret will never be exposed. It is ironic that such disgraceful practices are so common in the Gulf States but at the same time so overlooked by the human rights groups in the west. Slavery may not be unique to the Arabs as some Muslims still practice it illegally in some parts of Africa. However, the Gulf Arabs forced their modern slavery on the west just like they forced on them many of their other Islamic practices. The Gulf Arabs are now so used to be spoiled by having others to do all the work for them that they always take their servants with them when they travel abroad. Those servants frequently suffer of abuses even in the west but because of ignorance, isolation and fear such violations of human rights rarely come to light.

Many expatriates working in the Gulf States consider their conditions to be a kind of slavery. It is not a secret that the employments conditions there are usually based on race, the Europeans tend to have better deals than Asians.

The historical Arabs' role in the slave trade seems to have been forgotten or forgiven, even by the Africans themselves. Slavery is legal in Islam but nobody dares to bring that to light. Cruel practices like Fridays' public decapitations, hand cuttings and floggings are too brutal to talk about never mind to watch. Still such disgraceful human rights violations take place on daily basis and the Muslims get away with it.

Truly it is amazing, how uncannily Islam is winning – through sheer deception and intimidation. The Dhimmi west is watching helplessly its gradual surrender to the might of Islam. How tragic it could be, come to think of it.
