[ALOCHONA] Fw: Two nation theory and Bangladesh: Nizami preaches Jinnah's 'two-nation theory'

Dear members,

Assalamu alaikum. Please see the news below in which Mr Matiur Rahman Nizami has been maliciously criticized by a section of the leftist press in Dhaka.

It is wrong to say hat Two nation theory  was made by Mr.Mohammad Ali Jannah. In fact the main proponent was Allama Muhammad Iqbal who proposed that there would be two Muslim states in the East and the West of the subcontinent, at least one in the West. .The two nation theory was supported by all Muslim leaders including Mr Suhawardy, Mr Fazlul Haque ( who moved the Pakistan resolution in Lahore ), Abul Mansur Ahmad , Ataur Rahman Khan, Abul Hashim, Khaja Nazimuddin, Sheikh Muzibur Rahman.I do not find  Nizami sahib telling anything  which other Bangladeshi leaders have not said before..

Any body who has insight  in political history and Islam would admit that even the Prophet (sm ) established the Madinan state on the basis that Muslims are an Ummah and Jews are anpther Ummah ant they togeher  constituted the Islamic state of Madina..Of course in such ideological states Muslims are obligated to give all human rights to non-Muslims.

Any body who is un-biased would admit that  present territorial geography of Bangldesh is based on the two nation theory,  on the fact that Muslims are an overwhelming  majority ,  it is not based on ethnicity or race or language.

At that time all people here used to call Mr.Jinnah Quaid e Azam.I have seen that in the th 13 volume historical documents of Bangladesh ( Shadhinatar Dalilpatra ),It was  so in  United Front manifesto in 1954 , it was so in the sppeches of Suhrawardy , the leader of Awami League, in the speeches of Sheikh Sahib.( Please see the documents ).Sheikh sahib was one of the campaigners for Fatima Jinnah as the Presidential candidate in 1965 along with Professor Ghulam Azam and other political leaders .( Reference--ibid )They all the time said that Fatima Jinnah was so great as was his brother Quaidw Azam .

I am not commenting on other points.

Jinnah's 'two-nation theory' still relevant here: Nizami

do not like us Bangladeshis because we are Muslims."

"The Indian soldiers plundered our country indiscriminately during the liberation war.

" [They] took away not only the arms and ammunition abandoned by the Pakistani troops, but also stripped our factories down to the nuts and bolts and robbed educational institutions of their laboratory equipment and decamped with even bags of blood from the blood banks," Nizami alleged.

Calling Sheikh Mujib 'a crafty politician', Nizami said immediately after declaring the four state principles in India, on return home Mujib had joined ranks with the Muslim ummah.

Mujib had started his political career as a Muslim League volunteer, the Jamaat-e-Islami chief said, and along with his close comrade Tajuddin Ahmed had fought championing the two-nation theory.

He continued, "Sheikh Hasina is now vowing that they will not make any legislation which might contradict the Koran or the Sunnah, which nullifies all their messages on secularism delivered so far!"

"Hasina is also claiming that they will go by the provisions of the 1972 constitution, if voted to power this time, which will mean they will recourse to laws that would contradict the Koran and the Sunnah!"

He said the country had traversed backward during the emergency rule, for which the grand alliance and its leader Hasina had been responsible.

She now has to bear the brunt of the misrule wrought by the caretaker government, Nizami declared.

Calling upon the audience to make the four-party alliance victor in the forthcoming polls, he said, "There is no alternative to the four-party alliance at this critical juncture if you want to see this nation free from all shackles."

Jamaat's manifesto promises 'rights for the freedom fighters'

Note: Article 295C of the Pakistani Criminal Code – the notorious "blasphemy

Dhaka, Dec 11 (bdnews24.com) – Jamaat-e-Islami has promised inclusion of freedom fighters in the government Hajj delegation, formulation of a blasphemy law, elimination of terrorism and administrative reforms.

Jamaat amir Motiur Rahman Nizami declared the manifesto Thursday morning at the party's central office.

"Due to the absence of a blasphemy law, Daud Haider and Taslima Nasreen are forced to live outside the country," said Nizami.

"The declaration of the date for the withdrawal of the state of emergency has removed all concern surrounding the election," Nizami said.

"There will not be any problem related to seat allocation within the four party alliance," he added.

The salient features in Jamaat's manifesto are: basic education for all Muslim men and women, broadcasting of Islamic ideals through radio and television, taking efforts to stop gambling, drinking and other immoral acts, separate transportation for men and women, establishing accountable administration, freeing administration of corruption, building up the armed forces, establishing a wage board to provide farmers with the minimum wages and facilities, building flyovers and underground rails for Dhaka, rural loans and waiver of agricultural interest.

"Jamaat will go to polls with the symbol of the balance," said Nizami.

[ALOCHONA] BBC without Borders

BBC without Borders

By Dr. Edward Perera

There is no doubt that the BBC is a focal point of many controversial discussions on ethics of media. There is a general psychology that one does not oblige to smooth functioning of things all the time as it could be boring to others. It is not uncommon to the BBC to violate ethical codes in media and to provoke the listeners in order to draw the attention of the masses. This may function as sideline advertising without any cost (but in the long run, it could definitely be very costly for them).

On several occasions, BBC apologized to the wronged parties, but only when the issue had been challenged by the victims. In other words, the definition of ethics would depend on the kind of resistance from the affected parties. If the victims are strong and do resist, then follows the Apology.

Minister G.L. Peiris of GOSL in his recent visit to England had participated in a conference at Cambridge University and had several official meetings with business people and addressed interest groups. During his visit BBC Sinhala Service did a telephone interview with the minister. Consequently, BBC announced bluntly that the Minister admitted Human right violations in Sri Lanka. The fact was that BBC had twisted the Minister's statement in an attempt to discredit Sri Lanka. Later they admitted that it was a mistake but an enormous damage had already been done.

Some months ago, BBC telecast a TV documentary on AIDS in India. The focus person was a young school boy from India aged around 10 years. The story narrated how the father of this family was infected with HIV and it was sexually transmitted to his wife. As a result, this poor boy was born to the world as an HIV infected person. Though this family was living from hand to mouth, the little boy had very high aspirations to become a medical doctor one day to serve his community. During the interview with this boy, he clearly expressed his wish not get exposed to his school mates that he is infected with HIV. This is a very reasonable request, which was disregarded by BBC. No civilized person or institution would tolerate this kind of humiliation as to what the BBC under the so-called Reporters without Borders did to this innocent boy. The confidentiality that this boy maintained for nearly 10 years was blown to pieces within a few hours of exposing his name, whereabouts, the school he attends etc. etc.

There was no one to challenge BBC on this direct violation of human rights as the victim was a poor South Indian boy and there was no apology at all. Thereby, it became news within the ethical definition of the BBC.

Above events are two examples from recent BBC broadcasting. The popular slogan of "Reporters without Borders" seems to be an undercover pretext of liberalism, freedom and humanity in a broad sense. This trend is not confined only to one particular institute but has become a common feature in world media. It is being observed by many neutral individuals that the practice is not the same as what the theory preaches.

BBC as one of the leading media organisations in the world shows a greater degree of bias to some groups. It pretends that its moral commitment is to protect the rights of ethnic or religious minorities in the world. Everyone knows that there is an ethnic minority in the world called Singhalese living in Sri Lanka and their heritage is well preserved for over 2500 years. This old civilization has proved its peaceful coexistence with the other communities through many centuries in this small island. What is the mistake done by the Sinhela Buddhist community to be targeted by an Organisation like BBC? The answers for this particular question would definitely open many closed doors in the context of politics and religion.

Nearly 18 years ago, a BBC camera team was hired by the then Archbishop of Canterbury Robert Runcie to make a documentary on a Sri Lankan Student, whose visa was not extended to stay in England as he did not complete his studies within the given time. He could deceive the Church saying that the Sri Lankan authorities were waiting to interrogate him immediately on his arrival in the country as he was a supporter of the LTTE. Until this programme was broadcast, no one in Sri Lanka had ever heard about this person and no government was interested in him other than the British authorities who decided to deport him as an unwanted person.

It was a great surprise that the Archbishop of Canterbury was personally involved in this matter to get his visa extended and finally Dr. Robert Runcie persuaded the BBC camera team to fly with this "pro LTTE Sri Lankan student" up to Zurich with the hope of getting him asylum in Switzerland. As asylum was denied in Zurich, he was flown to his final destination. To the great disappointment of BBC, he was able to enter the country freely. He has full freedom like any other citizen to live or travel aboard any time. I followed this coverage live at that time and wondered whether the Church and BBC work jointly to help him as he is half Tamil Christian. They hardly raised their voices when many thousands of Sinhalese Buddhists youth in Sri Lanka were massacred in two separate incidents, one in 1971 and the other in 1988-89. It is clear that the Church and BBC worked jointly to create a story to tarnish the image of Sri Lanka.

So long as masses remain insensitive to ethical violation of media; an organisation like BBC could ridicule the world community with twisted and distorted news. Some tend to believe that all that BBC broadcast could be true due to the name and the fame of this institute. This background psychology could have adverse effect to the neutrality in evaluating information in the long run. Can the world community expect unbiased news from BBC, when it loses its credibility by disseminating false propaganda of malice by outfits like Tamil Tiger Terrorist Movement? Why is BBC bias to pro LTTE allegations against Sri Lankan people? Any such bias view could denounce the dignity of the people and deny the very existence of democratically elected government in that country. Is it not an act of mangling the virtues of that country? Sri Lanka is a member of United Nations.

The majority Sinhalese are willing to live as Sri Lankan with a common identity with all minorities.. Contrarily, some members of the minority groups feel comfortable to maintain their identity as Tamils or Muslims and this could be due to group insecurity as a social phenomenon. What the world community with the help of leading international media could do is to help such isolated groups to overcome this feeling of insecurity. Once the minority groups adopt the resist sentiments, it could make the majority also insecure and finally it will result in ethnic tension.

Being aware of this social aspect, BBC should have never advocated the ethnic line wishing flames in the fire of ethnic tension. Has BBC ever talked about the contribution of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, which shaped the positive way of thinking of the Sinhela majority in this land? Did it mention single word against unethical conversion taking place in remote rural areas in Sri Lanka? Why is then this calamity aroused by BBC to divide people in the region. Can it be a continuation of neo-colonialism? Having taken many past events in these countries into consideration, one cannot exclude the conspiratory process, which had governed and terrorized the political and social establishments in the region. BBC cannot be unaware of the depths and the gravity of the ethnic tension in these countries.

I do not want to leave facts behind but to dig them out for open minded people, who could draw their own conclusions in relation to the violation of morality in journalism. The following example cannot be an incident by mistake and no apology has been made by BBC as yet for this deep infliction.
In the year 2004 March at 3.51a.m BBC beamed a TV programme to the world to give the impression that the Buddhism in Sri Lanka is degenerated to a greater extent causing damage to civil life, making people unhappy and frustrated.

This programme had levelled allegations against Buddhist institutions saying that Sri Lanka has the highest suicide rate in Asia and the number of psychiatric patients were increasing gradually as a result of prevailing Buddhist ethics in that country. Either the BBC acted ignorantly, that the Land of Helas had achieved high level of social life nurtured by Buddhist culture over 2500 years or they have become "his master's voice" to propagate anti-Buddhist sentiments drawing totally distorted image on Buddhism. BBC argument could be fruitful only if Sri Lanka has a population of 100% Buddhists but the fact is many crimes are committed by minority groups proportionately far in excess of their numbers.

The crime reports of the Police department clearly shows that crime rate in northern Colombo and in coastal areas up to Chillaw are very high. Contrary to the BBC report, I do not relate this criminal tendency with the Catholic religion or with Tamil identity, even though the majority in these areas are dwelled by ethnic and religious minorities who are not Buddhists. This clearly indicates what the "Reporters without Borders" do enjoy with their immoral journalism. Every game has rules. It is evident that the BBC is playing a game without rules.

LTTE leader Prabhakaran had once said that, it takes only a couple of weeks for Sinhalese people to forget things. Ironically, BBC seems to be a leading follower of this sarcastic statement of the terrorist leader. BBC may live in the myth that the Sinhela People would forget all the media atrocities committed by their organisation. If it is true, they are overtly mistaken. There is a saying that one can fool someone all the time but not everyone all the time. The conduct of BBC is under observation of international journalists, who are well aware of this so called freedom of expression (Reporters without Borders) borders and these inflictive measures of BBC are condemned by decent people all over the world.

[ALOCHONA] Bush and Boot

Dear All,

Mr. Bush is the shoe expert! He could even tell the size without even taking a good look. I bet shoes are always thrown at him which made him an expert. The difference is only this time it has been reported by the media. My salute goes to Mr. Bush. He was great at dodging as always. Keep up the practice Mr. President (still) you will have to keep justifying yourself for the rest of your life for the atrocities you committed in the name of Peace.

[ALOCHONA] Khaleda warns of famine if AL wins

I know BNP leaders will feel famine since HAWA Bhoban won't able to collect money like before. Well the bottom line is that family politics of AL and BNP will bring famine in Bangladesh in the next 5 years.

Bangladesh can get out of future famine once Hasina and Khalida stop their family political business in Bangladesh. For God sakes, you women have everything (money, power and respect), why you don't you stop your village politics, play with realistic expectation and show your capabilities in Bangladesh.

Both of you have run Bangladesh and we have seen what is your capabilities. Please help yourself and help Bangladesh by removing yourself from Bangladesh politics, put new good blood in the party system (AL, BNP, JP).

I still believe that Bangladesh has credible and competent people who can run this country effectively with rule of law, responsibilities with better vision for Bangladesh.

Even though I have close relatives in the both parties (BNP & AL) who are running in this election,  I still like to see new good blood in the political parties for the development of Bangladesh on focusing job creation, expanding economy in various sectors, developing infrastructure outside of Dhaka with realistic and affordable plan,  and bringing more people out of poverty.

If I see degradation in Bangladesh in the next 5 years,  I will join Bangladesh politics for 2013 if needed.  But I still believe that there are qualified people (not CTG) to lead Bangladesh under AL and BNP umbrella in Bangladesh.

Regards,
M. M. Chowdhury (Mithu), Virginia, USA

[mukto-mona] Nation pays homage to martyred intellectuals

Jamaatis always get Skin Burning and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) when they
see the victory parades and the nation paying homage to martyred intellectuals
in the month of December. The Jamaat's  Al-bodor wing carried out the December
1971 Murder of the Intellectuals single-handedly.

The barbed comments just reflect their hidden anger and their indigestion of
people's  victory in the war of liberation.

[ALOCHONA] BABA // Bangladesh American Community Center (Silicon Valley, CA, USA)

Bangladesh American Community Center
(BACC).
in Silicon Valley, being formed by BABA

Dear Silicon valley Friends,

The opportunity has come to us again to establish a Community Center for our distinguished Silicon Valley Bangladesh Community. This time, BABA is taking the initiative to establish this Community Center. The details of the Project Implementation Plan (PIP) for this Community Center is attached here in Power Point file. A Contribution Pledge Form is also attached here for your convenience to participate in this great project. This Community Center will be a rental place at this time, and not a purchase pan. That way, we can try this out for one year, get a community address where all of us can come together and meet together and spend some time together, and do many of the community activities together, and then after one year of enjoying the place, we can think about the next step. An excellent property has been identified for rent at a great location and at a great price, where many of our community activities can take place. It is now your opportunity to contribute and participate in this wonderful project.

In case the attached file does not go through, then please see those files at the BABA Website links at www.baba1.com as given below.
You may also access the Project Implementation Plan (PIP) at the following link: http://www.baba1.com/bacc/BACC-Presentation_120608.pdf  and the pledge form at: http://www.baba1.com/bacc/Bangladesh Community Center Pledge Form.doc  which are linked from our main webpage: www.baba1.com
As I have stated to you many times before that we have our addresses as individuals, and as families, but we do not have our address as a Community. Many of the Communities around us have their community addresses. This is our time to do it. Our future generations will appreciate what good things we do today, which will transcends beyond our times into theirs.
Some of you may say that it is not the good economic time to do this project.  In response, I would say that every good thing in this world has not happened in the best of times. Many of the good things of the society have happened in difficult and challenging times as well. This is our time to do it. So, please come onto the boat, join the race and let us win it together, enjoy it together, for ourselves, for our current generation as well as for our future generations.

So, please review the Project Plan (PIP), fillout the Contribution Pledge form and send it to the BABA Mailing address given on the Contribution form.

With best of Thanks and Regards:

[ALOCHONA] It takes a long time to prepare for war: '71 hero

It takes a long time to prepare for war: '71 hero
KOLKATA: There were many in favour of a military strike on Pakistan after the Mumbai terror strike on November 26. It's one thing to want to fight a war and quite something else to actually fight one. According to Lt Gen (retd) JFR Jacob, it takes months for a country to prepare for war.

Jacob was the chief of staff, Eastern Command, in 1971, when India won her greatest ever military victory and helped in the creation of Bangladesh. He was the man behind the meticulous planning that helped India wind up things within a mere 12 days, that too on foreign soil. Even the Pakistan Army has acknowledged Jacob's role in the victory.

"It took us six months to prepare for the 1971 War. At that time, we were short of even basic things like bridging material, vehicles and boats. Even the troops had to be trained for the operations. It takes a long time to prepare for war," Jacob said in Kolkata on Monday. He is in the city to participate in the 37th Vijay Diwas celebrations of the Eastern Command.

There are some who believe that Jacob did not get due recognition for his role in the war. The mukti joddhas have not forgotten Jacob sahab though. Immediately after the military tattoo held at the Royal Calcutta Turf Club on Monday, as part of the celebrations, the 14 mukti joddhas (who have come from Bangladesh to attend) rushed to him. Jacob, now 85 years old, recognised a few of them. Others he recognised from their units.

"These are my boys and they did a splendid job," the retired general remarked, a twinkle in his eyes. Jacob's memory has not dimmed. When a mukti joddha introduced himself as a former naval commando, Jacob reacted, "I had visited your unit and training facilities. Not much has been disclosed about your role in the War. Even today, not much is revealed about the naval commandos."

"You must remember that even during the Kargil War, India ran out of ammunition. We had to get 155 mm ammunition from Israel to feed our howitzers," Jacob added. A part of his meticulous planning during 1971 was to stock ammunition even before action began.

The general has a long connection with Kolkata. Jacob Farz Rafael Jacob was born to a family of Baghdadi Jews in the city in 1923. At the age of 18, he joined the Army and fought the German and Japanese in Iraq, Africa and Burma. During the 1965 War, Jacob commanded an infantry and artillery division in Rajasthan. In 1969, he was appointed chief of staff, Eastern Command by then Army chief Sam Manekshaw where he was involved in counter insurgency operations in Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram till the war broke out.

Dhaka sending serving officers to 1971 victory celebrations in India

 Monday 15th December, 2008

Bangladesh has for the first time sent three serving army officers, on an invitation from India, to participate in the Victory Day celebrations in Kolkata to mark the surrender of Pakistani forces in 1971.

Tuesday is Bangladesh's 'Bijoy Diwas', the victory of the joint India-Bangladesh forces, before whom 93,000 officers and men of the Pakistan Army surrendered.

The delegation comprising three serving officers along with their spouses and 14 freedom fighters has been invited to attend the four-day programme in Kolkata.

Maj. Gen. Muhammed Maswood and Maj. Gen. (retd) Jamiluddin Ahsan of the Bangladesh Army are leading the team, the New Age newspaper reported.

In addition to laying wreaths at the war memorial Vijay Smarak by Maswood and Ahsan, the Bangladeshi delegation will attend various functions in Kolkata.

Indian veterans of the 1971 war as well as various civilian and military dignitaries will also attend the annual celebrations.

The decision to send serving officers for the first time comes nine months after Dhaka received on its Independence Day in March a team of Indian war heroes led by Lt. Gen. (retd) J.F.R. Jacob, who had planned the entire campaign in 1971.
