Those army officers shown their anger in the meeting with Sheikh Hasina, already transferred to different district so that they can not put pressure on government. Now government forcefully sending some high level officer in the retirement, might be they do not support government's dirty game. Please go to the following website and read the news.

[ALOCHONA] Latest information BDR mutiny

Latest information BDR mutiny

Dear All,

It is now unequivocally clear that the foiled abrupt munity in the BDR (Bangladesh Rifles) was a well-designed conspiracy against Bangladesh having various targets, political and military analysts and observers, alleged. The extent of mutiny uncovers the fact they it did not occur due to resentment or deprivation or anti-Army sentiment of the BDR personnel, rather those excuses were used to stage the munity what is unprecedented in the history of Bangladesh.

We lost over about hundred glorious sons of our soil who were committed to defend the each and every inch of soil. What happened in BDR Headquarters was not a spontaneous rebellion. It was a planted conspiracy of our foes to crush the Army and the BDR and the country itself as well. Who are those foes?

A proverb is widely in vogue in criminal justice that says that the criminals in most cases leave behind some evidence of crime. The masterminds of the debacle of BDR mutiny could not conceal the evidence of their involvement with it that caused such a great loss to us. The masterminds of this mutiny were amply exposed in a report of 'The Anandabazar Patrika' (February 26, 2009), one of the leading Bengali daily of Kolkata. It reported that Indian foreign minister Pronab Mukharjee talking to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over telephone voluntarily and astonishingly put forwarded a proposal that India is ready to provide the required money to Bangladesh for BDR. While talking to the officials of Indian foreign ministry Pronob Mukharjee expressed India's is ready to provide whatever assistance Bangladesh requires to normalize the situation.

My honourable and valued readers these two voluntary proposals are self-explanatory to justify that India was the mastermind of the debacle that rocked Bangladesh like Tsunami. Bangladesh never asked for money from any country for BDR. Why Pronob abruptly and unilaterally proposed to provide money for BDR? There are many rich countries in the world that can purchase India for hundred times. They did not offer such proposal. India is as poor as Bangladesh. 50 per cent of the Indians are poorer than many Bangladeshis. Why does such a poor country offer its readiness to provide money for BDR? Does India designs to buy the sympathy of the BDR personnel?

What does Pronab indicate saying that his country is ready to provide whatever assistance Bangladesh requires for normalizing the situation? Does he not indicate to send Indian Army to Bangladesh? What else is required to subdue an armed rebellion? Through this proposal Pronob Mukharjee uncovered the inner motive of India taking the advantage of BDR mutiny. 'The Telegraph' of Kolkata on the following day published a report that uncovers the real motive of India. Quoting a highly placed New Delhi-based official, 'The Telegraph' reported, India plans to send peace mission to Bangladesh. If Bangladesh agrees India will consider sending Central Reserve Police (CRP), Railway Protection Forces or BSF (Border Security Force) to oversee the security of Bangladesh-India Moitree train that runs between Dhaka and Kolkata. To justify the reason of sending India's so-called peace mission to Bangladesh the daily said, earlier BDR were engaged to ensure security of the Moitree train. Now the Army does not have trust on the BDR. On the other hand, BDR have no faith in the Army. So India considers to send its forces at least to guard Moitree Train, ensure security of the passengers and protect engine and materials and languages, the daily informed.

The above reports of Indian dailies uncover the truth that Indian intelligence agencies planted and staged the munity in order to make a situation for sending Indian troops in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, a report was published in a section of Bangladeshi newspapers said that Indian BSF personnel sent SMS message to BDR personnel suggesting them to seek their (BSF) assistance. Instigating the BDR personnel during the mutiny, the BSF SMS says, "Army will take over your BOP. Please call us to help you." What more evidence should I cite to justify that India planted this conspiracy and threw Bangladesh to another awkward situation.

It was directed primarily to cause heavy causalities to Bangladesh Army and BDR that would ultimately lead to even civil war. India had a plan to catch fish in the muddy water, i.e., to infiltrate Indian Army to Bangladesh who would never be withdrawn from Bangladesh. In 1971, Indian Armed Forces were withdrawn from Bangladesh against India's intention and policy. Since then India is waiting to get an excuse to send its troops to Bangladesh to make Bangladesh totally its subservient State.

Indian policymakers strongly believe that Bangladesh Armed Forces is the only bar to bring Bangladesh under Indian fold. The clandestine treaty that India compelled the exile Bangladesh government to sign in November 1971 attached a pre-condition that Bangladesh would not raise any regular professional Armed Forces. But Sheikh Mujibur Raham, the founder of Bangladesh, raised Armed Forces defying Indian intention and pressure. Since its formation Bangladesh Armed forces is an eyesore of India. India repeatedly tried to create anti-Army sentiment and public opinion in and outside the country and bring the people and army Face to face to ruin it. India repeatedly failed to reach its goal, but did not shun its ugly design. The BDR munity was also directed to that end. The BDR mutiny though foiled, it was a heavy blow on Bangladesh Army. India succeeded in bringing two most essential establishment of Bangladesh face to face. So many army officials were never killed any country in the world in a peaceful time. It is an irreparable serious blow on our Army and the country.

Masterminds of the mutiny had the belief that it would spread like fire in all cantonments of army and BDR that would take the form of bloody civil war and the situation would go beyond the control of the government. It was assumed under that situation Bangladesh government would have no other alternative but to invite India to end the munity. But the prudence and tolerance, particularly chain of command of Bangladesh Army averted further bloodshed, even civil war and saved the nation from that fateful situation.

Government should launch in-depth investigation to identify the agents and allies of anti-Bangladesh evil power. Immediate steps are to be undertaken to reform BDR, take drastic action against those who caused this havoc on the nation and strengthened intelligence networks. Government should identify our friends and foes and remain vigil against the evil designs of our adversaries so that such suicidal event cannot cause any more.* (Mohammad Zainal Abedin is a Bangladeshi researcher & journalist.)

[ALOCHONA] MYSTERIOUS DEATHS ARE NO COINCIDENCE

MYSTERIOUS DEATHS ARE NO COINCIDENCE:BDR rebellion, probe and helicopter crash

M. Shahidul Islam

The sovereignty of the nation is sinking like a busted ship and foreign powers are trying desperately to Afghanise our beloved motherland since the carnage inside the BDR headquarters.

Who is to blame? Of course the Government for much of what has been happening with the fate of the nation of late. Not only that the Prime Minister (PM) herself had invited foreign spies to investigate an incident deep inside the heart of our national security establishments, she had also opened up a Pandora's Box on March 7 by saying, "Conspirators are trying to trigger a civil war in the country."

Mysterious deaths
Sources tend to suggest that some recent deaths of armed forces officers should not be taken as mere coincidence. For example, last week, an army Captain is reported to have 'committed suicide' in Dhaka while on leave, although, according to his family sources, he was compelled to embrace such a fate following his sharp criticism of the PM for mishandling the BDR mutiny.

That was followed by the death of Subedar Mozammel inside a BDR building in Peelkhana under mysterious circumstances in the pre-dawn hours of March 7, and, the death of a Major General and one Lt. Col. in the helicopter crash in Tangail the following morning. The co-pilot of the helicopter, Major Sayed, is fighting with his last call with destiny in Dhaka's Combined Military Hospital.
Equally mysterious is the death of the Pesh Imam of Peelkhana mosque. Imam Siddiqur Rahman, who died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on March 11, had witnessed the carnage at BDR headquarters and disclosed important information during interrogation by different agencies. Soon after being interrogated, he fell ill and was removed to the hospital where he breathed his last.

Sources claim that Subedar Mozammel wanted to share his secrets with the CID investigation team, but no confirmation is available. Something else may have happened in between and he was found dead. Amidst these disconcerting developments, many have begun to question the neutrality of the CID's team leader, Abdul Kahar Akhand, who was brought in from retirement to conduct the investigation. Akhand is said to be a relative of the PM and he had investigated the Mujib killing case following the AL's coming to power in 1996.

Chopper crash
However, the death of Maj. Gen. Rafiqul Islam and Lt. Col. Shahid appears to be shrouded in a mystery. Piloted by Lt. Col. Shahid, the crashed chopper was carrying Jessore area commander, Maj. Gen. Rafiq, to the army headquarters to meet the army chief, along with Maj. Gen. Mujahid Uddin, commander of the Mymensingh division, whom Gen. Rafiq was asked to pick up en route.
One source says the helicopter's mechanical apparatuses were allegedly fiddled by some intelligence officials before it dashed for the sky from the Jessore helipad, while rumours abound that the chopper was shot at by someone while crossing the vicinity of the Jamuna Bridge area, manned by the army's composite brigade. Allegedly hit by a projectile, the chopper then lost control and swooped over an electric pole in Alenga, Tangail, before hitting a nearby pond.

Investigators should look into the helicopter's pre-flight inspection log to ascertain the alleged mechanical fiddling while the report of any trace of bullet or other projectile on the chopper's body can be traced by the crash investigators.

The military is not unbeknownst of the conspiracy that has already caused much of the damage to its existence and apprehends more; something an officer told the PM in an articulate manner during PM's meeting with aggrieved officers inside Dhaka Cantonment on March 1. Having heard the audio of the PM's conversation with aggrieved army officer, a veteran national security analyst says on condition of anonymity, "The PM either does not get it, or she too is helpless." He did not elaborate.

It is alleged, lately the military's own investigation team was denied from having access to converse with three particular ministers who had entered the BDR compound during the mutiny.

Dhaka-Kolkata train
A source said, prior to the mutiny, a number of senior officers of the BDR had seriously objected to a government proposition to allow armed Indian security forces to man Dhaka-Kolkata train service that had been introduced on April 14, 2008. The proposition came from the Indian foreign office after the AL's coming to power.

Apprehensive that India wanted to carry military cargo or other contraband substances under the armed guard of its security force members -- which could result in guerrilla attacks by North East Indian rebel groups -- one of the assassinated senior BDR officers is said to have commented, "India is trying to set up an occupation force inside our country in the name of 'peace mission' by employing its security forces in passenger trains." Analysts claim that comments made by BDR officers had reached relevant quarters in India within a short time.

External linkages
Sources also say that the prevailing suffocating atmosphere is making the probing of external linkages with the BDR mutiny extremely difficult, although such external linkages could be many. For example, Major General (retd) Fazlur Rahman said recently that the BDR uprising is the revenge for the killing of 19 BSF soldiers in 2001 when they had tried to intrude inside Bangladesh soil. That incident took place when Gen. Rahman was DG of BDR and the AL was then in power.

Other analysts tend to suggest the involvement of Assam's ULFA guerrillas in the mutiny. They say the recent decision by the government to deport to India the captive ULFA leader, Anup Chatya, might have antagonised his followers who wanted to upstage the Government through this mutiny.

ULFA theory
The ULFA theory, however, is not taken seriously by observers who think the guerrilla outfit is incapable of intruding into the heart of Bangladesh Armed Forces in the manner the mutiny had shown. The ULFA will also not like to antagonise Bangladesh armed forces by conducting such a massacre of its officers.

Some analysts also claim that a section of the government does not seem to be serious or appear uncaring about unearthing the real truth. There is also an uncertainty about the actual number of officers killed in the mutiny. According to one source, 12 officers are still missing, as opposed to the five being claimed by the authority.

Backlash from the meeting
The precarious civil-military relationship created by such occurrences is blamed for much of what is going on, and, that particular aspect is no more a secret despite the government's move on March 9 to block access to the popular media-sharing Internet web site, YouTube, due to its allegedly containing an audio recording of the March 1 meeting inside Dhaka Cantonment between the army officers and the PM.

An independent media web site, bdnews24.com, in a report posted on March 8, said the recording was "leaked apparently by rogue intelligence agents."
However, rumours are doing the round that well over half a dozen senior officers have been removed from their posts since the March 1 meeting with the PM. It is also being rumoured that some more officers are about to face the same fate soon.

FBI agents
In the manner the FBI agents have entered the Peelkhana compound recently was no different from how US arms inspectors entered various military compounds in Iraq. What happened to Iraq's fate after that is not a lesson to be forgotten so soon.

That notwithstanding, even if we are to believe that the PM had invited the FBI with an honest intent, the power play behind it shall not be overlooked due to some prominent US think tanks having already espoused external intervention to subvert the Islamists and blamed the Bangladesh military of being over-politicised, hinting to teach the military a lesson.

For instance, Harsh Pant of the Washington-based International Relations and Security Network (ISN) wrote recently: "In the absence of political participation, mosques have become central in shaping the domestic political discourse. A politicised military is a grave danger to the underpinnings of a constitutional democracy and Pakistan's example should be enough of a warning for Bangladesh not to go down that route."

[mukto-mona] what to do?

Dear all Bangladeshi citizen,

No where else in the world the army is so much loathed and certain cases hated by the people than in Bangladesh. In most of the countries of the world, they are loved and cherished by the people irrespective of their political, social and economic standing. In Bangladesh people not belonging to the army family bear a certain amount of chagrin which is sometimes evident in their writings and in their talks. But it is the army which is the last resort for a least developed, strategically placed country endowed with natural resources that without the presence of the army would be open field for enemies of the state to loot and plunder.

I want to know your opinion as to why did the army fail to win the hearts and the minds of the people and what is there that's lacking in their make which is making them fail every time they are in need of the support from the people.

What is to be done, how they can do it and what are the suggested ways that they must follow to live in relative harmony with the people that they are duty bound to protect with their lives.

I need your opinion on that so that I can write something on it. Please contribute.

Thanking a lot.

[ALOCHONA] Re:AL Leader arrested in connection with BDR Mutiny

There is no reason for any one to believe Bangladesh Awami League is impenetrable to what is going on in Bangladesh, especially for last seven years. Furthermore this makes me more convinced that Bangladesh is walking toward a danger zone where there will be no return, if we do not stand solidly as a nation against fundamentalist Islamic terrorist outfits and their collaborators.

We must not close our eyes and pretend there is no storm! We must acknowledge and fight all extremism including Islamic militancy which is striking our country so hard for so long. Nation hasn't forgotten yet those who killed Bangabandhu and his family, who killed our national leaders in jail (not the actual killer but the master minder), they were none but the very high position within Bangladesh Awami League. Comparing to Khondokar Mustaque, retired BDR Subedar Torab Ali President of AL Ward 48 is no match.

Those who heard the conversation between fuming army officers and Prime Minister in Shena Kunjo right after the BDR mutiny now knows PM in her speech declared her government will not spare anyone including her own party members if an investigative committee finds a role in this BDR massacre. This arrest of retired BDR Subedar Torab Ali who allegedly President of Bangladesh Awami League ward 48 reflects Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina governments sincere promise to find all perpetrators who tried to bring down our country to its knees.

If our memory did not falter on us we know how the Jamaat-e-Islami and BNP led four party alliance governments hoodwinked the entire nation whenever their investigation found there man to be involved with terrorism. That is true to be when Bangla Bhai was marching in the main streets of Bagmara under then governments police protection but Jamaat-BNP claimed Bangla Bhai is nothing but creation of media.

That is true to be, when the Islamic militants attacked movie theaters across the country, Jamaat-BNP regime tried to put the blame against Awami League. August 21st 2004 Islamic militant terrorist grenade attack on Sheikh Hasina was diverted to save the government party operatives; street petty criminal Joge Miah was arrested to hide their crime. Romna Botomul, Udichi and communist party meeting were attacked with bomb. Numerous people died in the hands of militants when four party alliances tried to save them.

Almost in every unpleasant incident in Bangladesh for last decade, Islamic militants left there foot prints. There is no reason to believe that there is no connection in BDR carnage with JMB, HUJI, Hijubut Tahrir and there common caterers who plays the religious card for the sake of their dirty politics.

I am happy that the current government did not walk into wrong path and gave investigative committee a go signal against anyone who committed this heinous crime. Every one has to understand if Sheikh Hasina's government does not spare own party official (alleged) then she and her investigation committee will have no mercy on anyone else no matter how powerful they are. This arrest of AL member opened the door to arrest not just all other foot soldiers but the master minders which ever party they belongs to.

For many years I and many others predicted that Islamic militants are infiltrating into all folds of life. This happened to all society where militants found a place to grow. There is no doubt in my mind that every brunch of Bangladesh administration has mole of Islamic militants. Every one is affected by these militants including Bangladesh Military, BDR, Police, Ansar, Air Force, and Navy. All politico-social and cultural organizations, therefore Bangladesh Awami League is no immune to the virus of Islamist terrorist infiltrator.

We must find them out no matter whether they are found to be in any Islamic, secular, nationalist, communist or atheist organization. Islamic fundamentalist terrorists are our common enemy, enemy of mankind, enemy of Islam. We must be determined to fight Islamic and all sorts of terrorism until there last agents survive not just in Bangladesh but the world around.

This is just shocking! No leaders of any political party is honest in
our country. No one taking any responsibility, Hasina always think
Bangladesh belongs to her, her father brought independance and shed
blood. So, Bangladesh should pay her due to Hasina.  Prince Tareq think
this is the country where he can use it as a playground. Taking bribe,
playing fool with politics is just okay! We are fool, aren't we?

Minus 2 would have been a good choice. But, in bangladesh politics is a
cult, it is a sickness! We have people like Shamim Chowdhury, Munshi

[ALOCHONA] TAKE ACTION NOW.

There is no reason to be happy that commerce minister Faruk Khan has disclosed that the Islamic extremists do have a role in the BDR rebellion. In such an important investigation a responsible minister should not have commented when various agencies including some foreign agencies, are working. The Islamic thugs who are the direct decedents of blood thirsty Halaku Khan must not have been given a chance to seek opportunities to flee the country or hid themselves. During the last BNP (Bloody Nihilist Party) government these extremist elements were given a free hand in advancing the dangerous extremist agendas and BNP-Jamat politicians virtually and actively supported them. The former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia is now crying foul and talking like a patriot when her ministers are directly responsible for the rise of Islamic extremism in Bangladesh.  These destructive elements are now well placed in many sensitive government positions and are just waiting to destabilize the present government to establish a fanatic government by all means. The present administration must not underestimate their power and reach because that will be serious blunder. A ruthless and determined effort should be made to neutralize these heinous religious criminals. The way general Suharto cleaned Indonesia of the communists in 1965 such a policy is needed now. The failed state of Pakistan must be taken as an example how a nation can become a failed state when religious extremists are pampered and tolerated.

[mukto-mona] Re:Some (ill conceieve)Thoughts About The BDR Massacare

Dear Moerator,
Here's a response to Mr Abul's post publsihed in the forum. My (humble)  efforts to pursue and preserve "good snense" in this forum will continue.
Regards
Zahid Khan
....................................................................................................

Mr Abul. You did not hurt anyone. You just made yourself a fool in this forum with some ill conceived, half-truths and melecious perceptions. Here's  a point by point response to your mail:

You wrote:

"I know from my personal contacts that many Army officers did sky high corruption during that time. Please keep in mind that Army is such a force who does huge corruption, BUT nobody can catch them at any time. On the other hand they are gifted with MP nomination and eventually become minister as soon as they retire."

My Response:

You seem like playing the tune of the killers who tried the same line of thought.  Will you support a similar action against all other people in Bangladesh who by you standard "did sky high corruption"? Can you please ask your "personal contacts" about the action against corruption (if any) in the military?  Have you thought a second before labeling Army as a force "who does huge corruption"? How did you reach such conclusion? Did you do any research on the military or was it limited to your knowledge of your own family and friends that you terms as "personal contact"?  Can you tell me the sample size of your research? What was the significance level of your findings? Do you even know how many personnel are there in the Army?  Regarding the MP part, do you even know the procedure as outlined by the Election Commission? Can you name one MP in the present parliament who became MP "as soon as they retied"?  I will be eagerly waiting for an answer of all these in your next post.

Mr Abul, this is a forum that is no ordinary one. Here  every pseudo truths, lies, fabrications are dissected and thrown back to the person.  Incase you did not notice, it is a forum of rationalist, not fabrication-ists like you.

You also wrote:

"Anybody who has little bit of sense will understand that the BDR event was planned by experts who has clear knowledge about war planning.  And in BD only two forces can do that -- one is Jamaat and the other is Army."

My Rsponse:
I am not sure about you, but I have little bit of knowledge of military operations, war and war studies owing to my short 25+ years of engagement with the military both at home and abroad. I also have some knowledge on the terrorist outfits operating in this subcontinent and the strategic environment in which we live in. I can name quite a few such agencies/ nations / outfits  that have such capabilities. But my question is why is your list limited to Army and Jamaat? Can you elaborate please? What special knowledge do you have? Why have you discarded other outside agencies/organizations?

You Wrote:
"Was the helicopter crash just an accident?  A Major General died and why is Army so quite?  The helicopter was bought only three years back, isn't it unlikely to have an accident now??"

My Response:
As a concerned citizen, It is ok to raise such benign question as to whether the helicopter crash was an accident or not. But the remarks that you make after that indicates that the question was not that benign. Who said you that Army was so quite? Gen Rafiq was taken to his home district, brought back to Army stadium, had a state funeral where the President attended, buried with full military honour. What did you mean by " so quite"? Please specify and enlighten us. Your comment on the helicopter being bought only three years back and "unlikely" to have an accident again revels your understanding and knowledge on aircraft accident and aviation related matters. Being in the aviation related profession I would urge you to study the reasons, know the fact and thereafter comment on it. Who told you that if an aircraft is only 3 yrs old in service cannot have an accident. However, in this case it was (as the preliminary findings suggest) not a problem with the aircraft but with bad weather and very poor visibility.

You Wrote:
"…But the way the officers were talking to Sk Hasina, that was extremely emotional, immature and childlike. I can expect this from people like us, but NOT from Army officers. Why they were finger pointing and doing emotional blackmailing?  Is this just sympathy or something else???

My Response:
Again, you probably had the privy of hearing 'some part' of the audio that was available in the net (though not authentic) and have formed an opinion. As I said before, releasing of the selective part of the tapes of such confidential meeting is regrettably and has made people like you to form a twisted opinion.  But I failed to realize your point about "finger pointing"?  Did you have any better knowledge than the victims who talked in that forum? Are you suggesting that what the victim said to their defence minister and the head of government were "finger pointing"?

You Wrote:
"Why the officers put their hands on DAD Tauhid's mouth when he was trying to say something to the media ??? "

My Response:
I think he has said enough to the media. All he now needs to say is to the interrogation officers and the judge in the court. (Unless you are his spokesman)

You Wrote:
"So, we can never rull out Army's involvement in the whole event.  As we have seen before, the main criminals will never be identified and some poor BDR folks (may be some DADs, jawans will be hanged)."

My Response:
No one's suggesting to rule out anyone but I would like to here from you how you have ruled out other outside agencies like RAW, ISI, LeT, LTTE, UPDF, ULFA, AL, BNP, Shorbohara, JMB etc. Then only you will sound rationale and stand a chance to be heard. Why do you think that "some  DAD and Jawans"  are "poor" and not killers?

In sum, Mr Abul, I found your post highly fabricated, ill conceived, and malicious in mature. It did not hurt me but has definitely proved how wrong someone can be when he or she talks on something with insufficient knowledge.  I am eagerly waiting for your response.

[ALOCHONA] Answers we must know as Bangladeshis - Challenges Ahead 1 of 3

Dear All,

In a series of episodes..I will regenerate a few of the findings in Major Dalim's official website. I neither condemn - nor support the findings by Mr. Dalim but serious questions are raised as to the then series of incidents which have long remain beyond our scrutiny as too delicate to discuss in public. The people behind the killing of Sheikh Mujib were Mukti Jodhdhas and there can be no doubt about their love for freedom from East Pakistan and their sacrifices during liberation war. Then why did they plan to kill the Father of Nation? Questions need to be answered - Period! I have initiated media propagations and have been vieing for Awami League leaders to answer the questions.

Sincerely,

Mufassil Islam
Human Rights Advocate

Col. Taher was a patriot and a pro people commander
Comilla brigade launched pro people activities. Awami League did not like it. Col. Tahir was removed from the command.
Once Maj. Gen. Ziaru Rahman became the DCOAS Col. Muhammed Abu Taher was posted as our Brigade Commander. I knew Col Taher from Pakistan days and we had similar thoughts and ideas. We maintained very close contact through out the liberation war. He was a patriot and an idealist. Because of his warm heartedness and character we all loved him. He was also well respected by the troops.
It was a gigantic task to organize an army in a wartorne country. Our resources were almost negligible. Arms and ammunitions equipments, uniforms, training materials and other necessary supplies were inadequate. Under the leadership of Col Taher we decided that while rebuilding Comilla cantonment and make it habitable we shall also help the people within our operation areas in the reconstruction works. We shall help to restore the houses, schools, hospitals, colleges, bridges, road communication, irrigation system etc. We shall also help providing primary health care and education. The spirit of the liberation war inspired us to under take such activities. The people appreciated our initiatives and welcomed us warmly. With such initiatives we could generate a feeling among the people that there is a difference in the ideals and values of Bangladesh army and that of the occupation army of earst while Pakistan. Bangladesh army is patriotic and is committed to serve the people. This army can not be used as a tool of repression. Our actions not only made the army more popular but the people's trust and confidence on us also heightened significantly. Shortly words about our constructive activities spread like wild fire all over the country. Our positive initiative achieved tremendous success and caught the imagination of the patriotic sections of the armed forces in other formations and the units. Many of them got inspired and started taking similar steps. Soon the Awami League government as well as the reactionary section of the armed forces became alarmed and worried. Such growing relation between the masses and members of the armed forces and the appreciation and trust that the patriotic section of the armed forces earned from the people were considered detrimental to the interests of the rulers. At that point of time there was a relief operation going on all over Bangladesh to assist the people in their rehabilitation. Due to the corruption of the central and local Awami League leadership the people were not getting their due share. Within our operational areas, we took initiative to stop all kind of malpractices and ensured proper distribution of the relief materials. Due to such intervention the genuine needy people got their due. This directly harmed the interests of the Awami Leaguers and they became furious. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman asked Maj.Gen. Shafiullah to issue orders to stop all such pro-people activities. To justify such orders it was stated that army was not a charitable organization.
At the end of 1972 suddenly Col. Taher was removed from the command and was posted to the army headquarters. He was removed from the command for his patriotism and pro people thoughts and ideas. With his posting one thing became evident that we were also being closely watched. The reason given by the authorities for his removal was that he was a disable person and hence could not remain in active command. He was considered fit only for staff appointments. Major Jalil meanwhile had voluntarily retired from the army and had formed Jatiyo Sahmaj Tantric Dal.

Seven accused including Razzak, Tofayel and Nasim. Case filed for the murder of Shiraj Shikdar
Comrade Shiraj Shikdar, a freedom fighter and the leader of Sarbahara party was cold bloodelly murdered after inhuman torture in custody at the order of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The article regarding his death that was published in Dainik Shangram on 5th June 1992 is reproduced here. This will not only reveal the account of his murder but lot of informations regarding the activities of the party and about the overall situation that prevailed in the country under Sheikh Mujibur Rahman can also be known.
Staff reporter reported,
"Yesterday that is Thursday at the Chief Metropolitan (C.M.M.) Magistrate's court a case has been filed against 7 persons as accused including Awami League leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Abdur Razzak, Tofayel Ahmed and Mohammed Nasim for the murder of Mr. Shiraj Shikdar, the leader of Purba Banglar Sarbahara Party. Mr. Sheikh Mohiuddin Ahmed, the President of Shiraj Shikdar Parishad has lodged the case. The accused were
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
1. Mr. Mahabubuddin Ahmed ex superintendent of police.
2. Abdur Razzak MP
3. Tofayel Ahmed MP
4. Mr. E.A. Choudhury ex IG police and currently the Chairman of Pubali Bank
5. Brig. (Retd) Kazi Nuruzzaman (Ex DG Jatiyo Rakkhi and Bahini and
Ex Ambassador for Bangladesh in Sweden).

6. Mohammed Nasim MP & Co.
The accuseds have been charged under section 302 and 109. A noted engineer late Shiraj Shikdar was a freedom loving, conscious brave freedom fighter. For the emancipation of the oppressed class he at first, created a labour organization then fought the liberation war and finally formed the Purba Bangla Sharbahara party to carry on with his struggle. As his popularity and support was increasing with every passing day due to his dedication and activities for the cause of the people late Sheikh Mujibur Rahman the then head of the government became jealous and alarmead, and being worried and terrified to loose his power in face of growing un popularity he unleased a reign of terror on the workers of the Sarbhara Party. Even he hatched up many conspiracies in different ways to kill Mr. Shiraj Shikdar, the party chief. In the report it was stated that the accused maintained close contacts with Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his associates and trusted officials and used to hold secret meetings. And accused No. 1 to 6 were then placed in high offices thus they along with other associates participated and helped Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to draw up 'the blue print to kill Shiraj Shikdar'. They carried out secret killing, kidnapping, arrest, torture and harassment of the workers of the party to implement their blue print. Describing the arrest and murder of Shiraj Shikdar in the rapport it was said that at one stage late Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the accused took a decision to infiltrate government agents in the party to kill Shiraj Shikdar and destroy the party. One of E.A. Choudhury's close relations was also inducted as a government agent.
In this way on 1st January 1975 Shiraj Shikdar along with another party member were arrested from New market area of Chittagong and the same day they were flown to Dhaka. They were brought to the old airport and from there they were taken to the headquarters of the special branch at Malibag under heavy escort and special security arrangements. There both of the captives were separated from each other and Shiraj Shikdar was subjected to inhuman torture. On 2nd January evening he was taken to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Banga Bhaban by the police and the special squad of JRB in a hand cuffed position. At that time late Capt. (Retd) Mansoor Ali the then home Minister, all the accused, Sheikh Kamal Son of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Sheikh Fazlul Haq Moni his nephew were also present at the Banga Bhaban along with Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. At the very first sight Sheikh Mujib started abusing Shiraj Shikdar. As he protested all those who were present including Sheikh Mujibur Rahman pounced on him. Even at that point Shiraj Shikdar demanded from Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to take necessary steps to stop the bank robbery by Sheikh Kamal and various other misdeeds. He also criticized his policy of slavery of India. At this Sheikh Mujib's anger heightened and he became extremely agitated when Shiraj asked him to take action against endemic corruption. At that point no 1 accused Mr. Mahbubuddin struck him on his head with his revolver. Shiraj Shikdar fell down. Sheikh Kamal lost his temper and shot at him in front of his father. The bullet hit his arm. Simultaneously all other accused started beating him, slapping him, kicking him right and left in front of their supreme leader as Shiraj Shikdar lay on the ground wounded. At one time he lost his conscience. After that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Capt. (Retd) Mansoor Ali and the other accused took the decision to kill Shiraj Shikdar and ordered No 1. accused to do the needful to execute the order. No 1 accused then took Shiraj Shakdar and brought him at the JRB headquarters at Shere Banglanagar. There he was tortured more. Later at about 11 p.m. on 2nd January he was shot and murdered in the JRB headquarters in presence of all the accused. The report further stated that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the head of the government in his statement at the national Parliament boastfully claimed,
"Where is Shiraj Shikdar now?"
This was the clear manifestation of his revengeful attitude. Then No. 1 accused took his dead body and the members of the Special Squad to Savar police station Via Talbagh as planned. Next day his body was transferred to the Morgue. In the explanation why the case is being filed so late, it was started that immediately after Shiraj Shikdar was killed his father late Abdur Razzak went to the police station to file the case. But as it was an autocratic dictatorship and JRB's reign of terror prevailant, the police refused to accept the case. Because of the fear of state terror and subsequent political instability and authoritarian rules and due to pressures from various quarters for last 17 years it was not possible to register the case. The complainer, a follower of the late Shiraj Shikdar presently took the risk of his life and came forward to register the case to seek justice under relatively more democratic conditions. After hearing the petition the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate issued an order to the Tejgaon police station in charge to take necessary legal action subject to necessary investigation. Advocate Farmanullah Khan moved the petition. He was assisted by advocate Afzal Hossain."

Sheikh Kamal, eldest son of the Prime minister attempted to rob a bank
By the end of 1973 law and order situation in the country went out of hand. While attempting a bank robbery Sheikh Kamal got injured in police encounter.
Complaints of corruption against the administrators were being published every day. People were protesting against unabated loot. Rocketing price hike made the bare necessity out of rich for the common mass. Within four months the government floated sixty three corers Taka in the market. As a result inflation went up. In that anarchic situation a sensational attempt of bank robbery took place in the capital. After chase and exchange of gun fire, the police caught six miscreants. One of them was Sheikh Kamal, elder son of Sheikh Mujib. Sheikh Kamal and few other miscreants got injured in that encounter. However, the police later made a statement, "While the miscreants were being chased accidentally Kamal and others received injuries."
