Subject: Female students arrested: to think of the dark side also

Pl read the editorial of Daily Naya Diganta on Saturday 30th July 2016 with the head line "Veiled students arrested from messes; the bad effect has to be taken into account" .
The article is related to the current law and order situation in Bangladesh. The Editor has thrown light on the attempts to find out persons respons
ible for recent terrorism by searching in the bachelor messes, mostly in vain.
It was reported that on the basis of secret information the police went to a mess in Comilla and arrested some female students but could not give any evidence of their involvement with terrorists. They found Islamic books with them. It was always seen that a section of interested quarters are trying to take advantage of the situation to harm their opponents by pushing the police against them.
Maximum care should be taken in case of these female students as a social havoc is created when they are arrested and drawn to the thanas (police stations) and courts; they face problem in their education, marriage etc. even after they are released afterwards. The police said they were suspicious about the students, but did not disclose the source.
It is to be seen that wearing hijab or reading religious book by a person does not make him or her Terrorist.( All books one can keep except a few books banned by the Government)
Moreover, a lot of students of private colleges, private universities stay in messes because they are not provided any accommodation. This is also true for thousands of govt. and private employees staying in cities who keep their families at home to reduce their cost. The house owners will deny them rent if this drive continues without reason. This will increase problems of govt. and non-govt. servants.
A number of other dailies also emphasized on the same and said that care should be taken not to create more problems in solving one problem.

হোস্টেল-মেস থেকে পর্দানশিন ছাত্রীদের গ্রেফতার
এর নেতিবাচক দিকগুলো নিয়ে ভাবতে হবে
সম্প্রতি কুমিল্লা ভিক্টোরিয়া কলেজের ছাত্রী হোস্টেলে অভিযান চালিয়ে জঙ্গিসংশ্লিষ্টতা সন্দেহে তিন ছাত্রীকে (কাজিন ফারজানা বাতুল, আবজিনা আক্তার চম্পা ও সালমা আক্তার) আটক করেছে পুলিশ। গত বুধবার রাতে গোপন সংবাদের ভিত্তিতে হোস্টেলে অভিযান চালায় র্যাব ও পুলিশ। একটি কক্ষে চারজন ছাত্রী থাকতেন। তাদের মধ্যে তিনজনকে আটক করা হয়েছে। এর আগে ঢাকার ইডেন কলেজের শেখ ফজিলাতুন্নেসা মুজিব হল থেকে পাঁচজন পর্দানশিন ছাত্রীকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়। বাড্ডায় ফটোকপি করার সময় হিজাব পরিহিত এক ছাত্রীকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়। গ্রেফতারদের কাছে জিহাদি বই পাওয়া গেছে, পুলিশের অভিযোগ। বলা হচ্ছে, কারো কারো কাছে ডা. জাকির নায়েকের লেকচার সমগ্র বই পাওয়া গেছে। পাওয়া গেছে আরো নানা ধরনের ইসলামি বই।
বলা হচ্ছে, পুলিশ গোপন সংবাদের ভিত্তিতে এসব ছাত্রীকে জঙ্গিকর্মকাণ্ডে সংশ্লিষ্ট থাকার সন্দেহে গ্রেফতার করেছে। সমাজে একটি গোষ্ঠী ওঁৎ পেতে থাকে কোনো পরিস্থিতির সুযোগ নিয়ে প্রতিপক্ষকে ঘায়েল করার সুযোগ নিতে। সাম্প্রতিক জঙ্গি দমন অভিযানে তেমনটা যে ঘটবে না, সেটুকু হলফ করে বলা যায় না। তাই শুধু গোপন সংবাদের ভিত্তিতে, শুধু সন্দেহের বশে হোস্টেল বা মেস থেকে ছাত্রীদের ধরে নেয়ার ব্যাপারে পুলিশকে শতভাগ সতর্কতা অবলম্বন করতে হবে। কারণ, যে ছাত্রীদের পুলিশ গ্রেফতার করল তাদের মধ্যে সবাই কিংবা কেউ কেউ জঙ্গি কর্মকাণ্ডের সাথে জড়িত থাকতে পারেন অথবা না-ও থাকতে পারেন। কারণ, পুলিশ নিজেই বলছে, সন্দেহবশত তাদের গ্রেফতার করা হয়েছে। যদি এদের কেউ সে ধরনের কর্মকাণ্ডে জড়িত না হয়ে থাকে, একসময় এরা ছাড়া পায়, তবুও এদের জীবনে নেমে আসতে পারে অপূরণীয় ক্ষতি। এদের অনেকের সামনেই ফাইনাল পরীক্ষা। হয়তো এই গ্রেফতারের ফলে তাদের পড়াশোনার এখানেই ইতি ঘটতে পারে। এ ছাড়া এদের অভিভাবকদের উৎকণ্ঠার শেষ নেই। এমনিতেই মেয়েদের বিয়ে দেয়ার ব্যাপারে বাবা-মায়ের চিন্তার শেষ নেই। তার ওপর সমাজে যখন প্রচার হবে তাদের মেয়ে জঙ্গিসংশ্লিষ্টতার কারণে গ্রেফতার হয়েছে, তখন তাদের বিয়েশাদি দিতে চরম অসুবিধায় পড়তে হবে।
সময়ের সাথে সমাজের লোকজন ক্রমবর্ধমান হারে বুঝতে পারছে, সমাজে নারীশিক্ষা অপরিহার্য। তাই আজকাল গ্রামের বাবা-মা তাদের মেয়েদের হোস্টেল ও মেসে রেখে পড়াশোনা করাতে এগিয়ে আসছেন; কিন্তু সম্প্রতি হোস্টেল ও মেসে থেকে পড়ালেখা করা মেয়েদের নিয়ে উৎকণ্ঠায় পড়ে গেছেন তাদের অভিভাবকেরা। ঢাকা ও কুমিল্লার কলেজ হোস্টেল থেকে পর্দানশিন ছাত্রীদের জঙ্গিসংশ্লিষ্টতার অভিযোগে গ্রেফতারের পর তাদের এই দুশ্চিন্তা সমধিক বেড়ে গেছে। একটি জাতীয় দৈনিকের প্রতিনিধিরা এ ধরনের অভিভাবকদের সাথে কথা বলে এই উৎকণ্ঠার কথাই জানিয়েছেন।
আমরা মনে করি, শুধু গোপন খবরের ওপর ভিত্তি করেই কিংবা সন্দেহ করেই যেন পর্দানশিন নারীদের গ্রেফতার করা না হয়। নিশ্চিত জঙ্গিসংশ্লিষ্টতা পেলেই কেবল যেন হোস্টেল-মেসের পর্দানশিন মেয়েদের গ্রেফতার করা হয়। মনে রাখতে হবে, হিজাব-বোরকা পরলেই যেমন জঙ্গি হয় না, তেমনি ধর্মীয় বই পড়াশোনা করলেও কেউ জঙ্গি হয়ে যায় না। এ ব্যাপারে যথা সচেতনতা দেখাতে না পারলে একটি সমস্যার অবসান ঘটাতে গিয়ে নতুন নতুন সমস্যার জন্ম দেয়া হবে।
