Well, it's a joke.
Now, is it totally improbable? Probably not. There is no doubt that, such discipline will occur in some Muslim families in this day and age. In fact, it could even be worse in some conservative families. We hear far too many cases of honor killing around the world for not being good enough Muslim.
So, instead of directing your anger to the person who is telling the joke, maybe it will be worthwhile to reflect on the existing superstitions in the society.
Being an outsider, it appears to me that - far too many Muslims put too much importance to appear as Muslim (Muslim-ness); possibly, more so in women than man. In my view, it's a form of self-segregation, and it will hinder advancement in the society.
Broadly speaking, most religious dogmas are vastly incompatible to the modern society, we live in. These doctrines will not get us anywhere, not in this world or in the afterlife.

"What happened to you little Johnny"?
 
"Well ma'am, 4 hours after becoming an American, 
I was attacked by  Muslims."
