Re: [mukto-mona] Re: {PFC-Friends} Re: {NA Bangladeshi Community} Abolish the Electoral College

I, simply, concur with the statement by Mohammed Shoaib – "Electoral College is a very smart innovation by founding fathers to make sure that every vote and every state counts."
Reflecting on the Democrats defeat, I see the following picture - as POTUS campaign was in full swing, two consecutive Chairpersons of the Democratic Party got caught red-handed (thanks to WikiLeaks) with unethical dealings, and their POTUS nominee continued to be investigated by FBI. So, as a voter, what conclusion do I arrive at, except - Democrat Party is corrupt to the core. With such backdrop, if you still believe that election was stolen, you must see a psychotherapist.
Also, Media and Pollsters misled Dems by feeding rosy outcomes, even when there was none. Hillary Clinton had several major medical episodes during campaign season, which Media covered up, but it was all apparent to public. Now, the same Media inventing another narrative – "Election was stolen" to misguide Dems from the Media responsibility for the defeat.

The Election Was Stolen - Here's How

By Greg Palast, GregPalast.com

tarting in 2013 – just as the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act – a coterie of Trump operatives, under the direction of Kris Kobach, Kansas Secretary of State, created a system to purge 1.1 million Americans of color from the voter rolls of GOP–controlled states.
The system, called Crosscheck, is detailed in my Rolling Stone report, "The GOP's Stealth War on Voters," 8/24/2016.
Crosscheck in action:
Trump victory margin in Michigan:13,107
Michigan Crosscheck purge list:449,922
Trump victory margin in Arizona:85,257
Arizona Crosscheck purge list:270,824
Trump victory margin in North Carolina:177,008
North Carolina Crosscheck purge list:589,393
On Tuesday, we saw Crosscheck elect a Republican Senate and as President, Donald Trump. The electoral putsch was aided by nine other methods of attacking the right to vote of Black, Latino and Asian-American voters, methods detailed in my book and film, including "Caging," "purging," blocking legitimate registrations, and wrongly shunting millions to "provisional" ballots that will never be counted.

Electoral College is a very smart innovation by founding fathers to make sure that every vote and every state counts.  Otherwise, candidates would focus only the large populous states -- making small states like Wisconsin and Delaware look impotent and helpless in the election process.  This check and balance enabled the world's most unqualified man defeat world's most qualified woman.  This is "Divine Justice".  Revenge for Sanders because DNC manipulated the primary process in Hillary's favor.  Revenge for Trump because the RNC and Republican leaders fought tooth and nail -- even though Trump was the party's candidate.   Those who never believed in "God and Miracles" ought to take a second look.

Protests are not growing big and wide and loud enough. Still small pockets with small numbers.  The voter turn out was at a record low,  only 55%. Had there been some more votes cast in favor of Hillary Clinton in Florida,  North Carolina,  Michigan, and Wisconsin, the result would been different.

The argument for electoral college is that it is to prevent  a few urban concentrated population to dictate  for the vast rural and suburban population.  Some 75-85% of lands are rural and suburban. The fear was that the population concentration in NY city, LA, Philadelphia etc. will overtrump these 75-85% of USA districts.

This argument is wrong. Because the representation of these areas are done  in the election of congress which is based on congressional district. There is no need to do this representation in Presidential election as well.

Another reason this electoral collage based presidency is wrong and unjust is that,  it  treats  vote of an urban citizen  less  than that of a rural area.  It violates the principle of equality when comes to the wight of the vote.  Even though more people voted for Hillary or Gore, somehow those extra votes are null/void because they came from overly populated electoral districts.  The vote of a urban citizen weighs less than that of a rural area.

Including HC in 2016 and Al Gore in 2000, it happened five times already in American history, that a candidate won by popular (individual) vote but lost the presidency because of the electoral college, which was originally created as a balancing measure to avoid mob rule. Hi,

The Electoral College has outlasted its usefulness. It is part of the constitution, written when communication was by pony express. Voters currently living and voting in a "red" or "blue" state are disenfranchised, because their vote doesn't matter. Eliminating the electoral college means: no "swing" states getting all the attention and all the campaign stops and all the empty campaign promises. The electoral members are selected by the two main political parties, Republican and Democrat, disenfranchising all other voters, independent, Libertarian, etc. End it now.

That's why I signed a petition to The United States House of Representatives, The United States Senate, and President Barack Obama.
