[mukto-mona] Re: {PFC-Friends} Islamic Sharia and Sharia law

When these so called 'moderates' want to justify the confused Sharia laws at home and abroad, the line between the extremists and 'moderates becomes very blurry. The same 'moderates' would call extremists as non Muslims and yet, their stances are no different from their identical twin brothers. Would Sharia be the next issue that Muslims want in their recently settled enclaves in the West? Fight for a issue that never worked for last fourteen hundred years for enhancing Muslim lives?

I had a quick look at the link Rezaul Karim forwarded. I think his assertion that this article will dispel all misconceptions regarding the Sharia Law is totally misplaced.

The article contains a number of mutually contradictory statements. But even more important is that there are quite a few erroneous statements. Just look at one statement, I quote, "Iran, Saudi Arabia and a few other countries claim that most of their laws are based on Shari'a, but, in fact, most of those laws are secular". To say that the laws in Iran, Saudi Arabia and some other Muslim countries are secular (not based on Sharia) is a travesty of truth. Where is secularity when the state and religion are run jointly? Both of these countries are Islamic republics. The king of Saudi Arabia is the custodian of two holiest mosques in the country. In Iran, the supreme leader of the country, constitutionally one religious leader of the status of Ayatollah, is more powerful than the elected president of the country. In Saudi Arabia, where I spent three years as a Radiation Consultant observed that no religion other than Islam is allowed to be practised. The same goes for Iran. Both of these countries officially proclaim to follow Sharia Law.

Now this professor with some presumptions and misconceived ideas tries to clarify the confused situation regarding Sharia Law. But in the process he makes it even more confusing.

I found this, an excellent article on Islamic Sharia and Sharia law
InsaAllah, it would clarify many of the apprehensive uneasiness that many of us, Muslims or Non Muslims have.

Thank You.
