Look, the cart should not be put before the horses! What could Tagore do when many Muslims wanted more Islamic schools rather than secular schools and universities? The insecurity of Islam was paramount in the subcontinent and that the newly converted Muslims might loose their religion under a predominantly Indian culture and traditions if they were not educated in Islamic schools. This is a dis-ingenuous attempt to belittle Tagore to remove Tagore's literary imprints from Bengalee Muslims' minds. As you write correctly, the number of Muslim students in any subcontinent schools, colleges and universities were very low in comparison to Hindu/Buddhist students. So, why blame Tagore when Muslims were not ready for the challenge? What could that man do for Muslims when many Islamic scholars/Imams failed to see the bright side of secular education?
The main Islamist grudge against Tagore is that he never cared to say much about Islam, let alone praise it for its mediocrity. Was his silence about Islam.... perceived as a snub? Was he required to endorse Islam as a great religion? Thank God he did not take that route. Bluntly put, he did not endorse any religion in particular except his devotion to Nirakar, Brahmmo.

There is no limit to the idiocy of Islamic fanatics.
One does not even need to know all these facts to realize that in 1912 or 1921, the establishment of a university in Dhaka had very little to do with higher education for the Muslims. At those times there were not many Muslims in East Bengal with enough pre-university education to get into a university. Most of the students and professors of pre-1947 Dhaka University were obviously Hindus, as a good university like DU was supposed to recruit professors and admit students on merit basis, not on religious quota. Here is some information from Wikipedia on the number of pre-1947 students of that university. 1930-31: Out of 1300 students only 399 were Muslims; 1937-38: Out of 1527 students only 595 were Muslims; 1940-41: Out of 1633 students only 600 were Muslims - these in-spite of a 65:35 ratio of Muslims to non-Muslims in East Bengal.
And, of course, in 1912 or 1921, nobody imagined the country of Pakistan (or Bangladesh) in the sub-continent. Obviously, if there was no Pakistan/Bangladesh, the Hindus of East Bengal would not have left their homeland, and chances are they would still be in the majority in terms of professors, scholars and students at Dhaka University.
So, even it were true that Rabindranath Tagore opposed the establishment of Dhaka University, it could not have been due to anything like opposing higher education for Muslims.
The idiots of Bangladesh obviously are not educated/rational enough to realize that Rabindranath had better things to do than what their cow-manure filled brain can think of.
