This might be a symptom of low self confidence? Adopting an Arabian traditional dress code with the resolute abandonment of their own past and heritage is pretty silly and shallow. Making a statement of " I am a proud Muslima" would not further any Muslim cause in this fast paced technological world...where knowledge rules, not the religiosity. I would like to see Muslimas becoming ready for space travel than indulging more into the same garbage that has failed Muslims for last 1500 years.

This trend in the West started after 1973 when Muslim Brotherhood got empowered and penetrated the West with the implicit blessings of establishment of quite a few Western countries.
The way hijab is spreading among Western Muslims, maybe in the next millennium, there would hardly be any Western living Muslim woman without hijab.
The wheelers and dealers of the global Ummatic power center had done a good job in changing the cultural landscape of Muslims in the Western countries. 😊
