Considering our knowledge (still at infancy) and technological ongoing advances, changing micro-environment on Mars is not an irrational idea but things would very different at macro level. This is a pure fantasy at this point. But the idea is already planted in our minds and we should try to reach that goal. To test this grand idea, we should rather make Mars inhabitable for our chionophile species to begin with. If our chionophile relatives can make it there, that might open the door for the human invasion. I am a strong believer of gradual adaptability of our earthly living organisms in a gradually changing environment. Our evolution is rather an on going process and from millions years from now, we humans may have to adapt a total new environmental reality unless we get extinct as a species before that.
