[mukto-mona] Jamal says "Thank you for your support"

Subject: Thank you for your support

Dear Friends,

We knocked on countless doors, made tens of thousands of phone calls, sent nearly 100,000 emails, distributed thousands of flyers, sent over 125,000 text messages, and posted 300 yard signs all across District 4 of San Jose, California.

How was this all made possible? Because of you. When we reached out for help, you stepped up. We have enormous appreciation for all of you who generously donated and volunteered. Your support means the world to us.

In the weeks leading up to the election, households in the district were bombarded with scores of mailers about the other candidates in the race. Each mailer had a price tag in the five figure range. We put in a hard fight with the resources we had to counter the mailers and persuade voters in a district of nearly 100,000 residents, but we were ultimately unable to make the runoff that will take place in November.

It is not unusual for a candidate to fall short in the initial attempt. Abraham Lincoln ran for Senate twice and was unsuccessful each time. Barack Obama lost his first race for Congress. Ro Khanna ran for Congress three times before winning a seat.

This is just the beginning. We will return to the arena. We will make our voices heard, and one day, a member of our community will be elected to public office, God-willing. That day will come sooner than we think.

Kind regards,
Jamal

[mukto-mona] Re: Mujib's 7 March 1971 speech: "Was it Declaration of Independence or Bluff?"

[Excerpt from a longer article written in 2009 ]

<<   When everything was ready for the first sitting of the elected Constituent Assembly in Dhaka the sudden postponement of the sitting though was unexpected, the seasoned politician like Mujib rightly apprehended that the conspirators were now hyper active not to transfer power to Mujib and Awami League. As soon as the announcement was made on 1 March the people of Bengal erupted like a volcano and right from that day the control of the civilian government was taken over by Bangabandhu. Virtually that was the end of united Pakistan.

In his speech that late afternoon Mujib narrated the background of the plight of the people of East Bengal since the day Pakistan was created, how they were deceived and deprived and how they were discriminated by the rulers for the last twenty three years, the continuous conspiracies hatched against them whenever there was a possibility of forming a government in the centre and how the wealth and resources of East Bengal was plundered for the benefit of West Pakistan. >>

[Mujib's 7 March 1971 speech: "Was it Declaration of Independence or Bluff?" asks the author of the article below, Ahmad U Shihab. And he answers the question with reliable evidence. The author shows that Mujib wanted to keep Pakistan united, he declined to join "songram" (struggle), and he collaborated with Yahia's military. Please see the excellent article below:]
