It reminds us that – the so called Saints, Priests, Prophets, Cardinals, Gurus, etc. are all normal human-beings, just appear different from us on the surface but underneath we all have very same urges and needs. They all possess the same human characteristics ((love, lust, greed, rage, sorrow, comfort, sexuality, etc.) as we do. They are, in fact, just actors/actresses on the world-stage, and we are audiences and spectators. None of these heroes and heroines can escape any of the basic human flaws and qualities. If they try to escape, they will find themselves engaged in more severe pervasive activities. In order to fulfill celibacy, Priests often embrace closet homosexuality; Shannyashis perpetrate elicit affairs with disciples remain unwed for life. It's like trying to block the natural flow of a river with a barrage; you can't. You can only divert it to another imperfect direction. The bottom line is - human species are born mainly to follow the path of the family-life. Any other path is imperfect diversion only.

I do not think Vivekananda was a Shannyashi; he was a Brahmachari. Probably, he did not succeed in that front. As far as I understand, the main goal of his life was to preach his religious philosophy to all human-being, which he called the "religion of a gentleman," meaning the religion of a good human-being. Following that goal, he presented the concept of his religion in the World Religious Congress in Chicago (1893). I believe - by the term "Jeebe Preem" he meant love for all human-beings, irrespective of caste, creed, religion, status, etc. I am sure he did not mean love for all living-beings; otherwise, he would have been a vegetarian. He needed resources for accessing the world-stage, which he could only procure from the Kings and the Queens. Yes, he also needed to earn his bread, and needed to get involved in politics to mobilize general mass to spread his messages. The bottom line is - he was a religious preacher.

If we dig into the life of Rabindra Nath Tagore, we will find plenty of dirt there also. Therefore, we should judge the messages, not the messenger. At the end of the day, they were all less than perfect, but how about their messages? It's like a drug-addict advising others not to do drugs; the man is not perfect, but his message is. If messages are perfect, we should have no trouble to embrace them.

In spite of all his flaws in life, Vivekananda's religious philosophy will keep him alive for centuries, as it did for Prophet Muhammad.

Provided that every thing presented here is authentic, the article is highly informative. I did not know that Zia wanted Tipaimukh. I also agree that BNP foreign policies were more geared to appeasement of India.

ফেলানীকে নিয়ে বাসন্তীর রাজনীতি!!!

আমাদের দেশে এক এক সময় এক এক বিষয় রাজনীতির ইস্যু হয়ে দাঁড়ায় ! বিশেষ করে বিরোধীদল খুঁজতে থাকে একের পর এক ইস্যু । সেই সব ইস্যু নিয়ে সরকারকে কুপোকাত করতে তৎপর হয়ে যায়! নন-ইস্যুকে ইস্যু বানাতে অনেকেই বেশ তৎপর । এখানে কোনভাবেই প্রকৃত চিত্র ফুটে উঠতে দেয়া হয় না । তার একটি ধরে নেয়া যাক সীমান্তে হত্যা!

আমাদের দেশের সাথে যে দেশটির বিশাল সীমানা তা হলো ভারত । বাঁকি ছোট অংশ হলো মিয়ানমারের সাথে । ভারতের সীমান্তে গুলিকরে মানুষ হত্যা এটা আজ নতুন কোন ঘটনা নয় । সব সরকারের সময় এটা ঘটে থাকে । বিগত বিএনপি সরকারের সময় যত লোককে গূলি করে হত্যা করা হয়েছে তা অতীতে আর কোন সময় হয়নি । এখনও হচ্ছেনা ! এ নিয়ে সেই সময় সরকার কোন প্রতিবাদ করেনি । বিএনপি ক্ষমতার বাহিরে থাকতে যতদূর ভারত বিরোধী হয় , ক্ষমতায় থাকতে ভারতের কাছে নতজানু হয়ে "নমস্কার" নীতিতে বলীয়ান হয়ে থাকে । যার কারনে যত সমস্যা তার সবগুলো শুধু আওয়ামী লীগকে সমাধান করতে হয় । এবার প্রধানমন্ত্রী ভারতে সফরকালে বিরোধীদলীয় নেত্রী গলাফাঁটিয়ে বল্লেন " দেখি কি কি দিয়ে আসেন , আর কি কি নিয়ে আসেন ! সব যদি দিয়ে আসেন আর কিছু না আনতে পারেন তবে বিমানবন্দরে কাঁটা বিছিয়ে দিব !" .. তিনি একবারও তার সময়কালের অর্জন উল্লেখ করে বলেননি আমি এটা এটা এনেছি আপনি এটা এটা আনবেন । . তিনি তা বলবেন কিভাবে , কারণ তার প্রাপ্তির কোঠা শুন্য ! তিনি আনতে জানেন না , শুধু বিরোধ তৌরি করতে জানেন ! অবশ্য প্রধানমন্ত্রীর রাস্তায় কাঁটা বিছাতে পারেননি দেখে আমরা বুঝে নিয়েছি যে প্রধানমন্ত্রী এবার শুধু দিয়ে আসেন-নি , নিয়ে এসেছেন অনেক ! অবশ্য তিনি ক্ষমতায় থাকতে উনার কেবলা পরিবর্তন করেছিলেন । উনি পশ্চিমে দিল্লীমূখী না হয়ে হয়েছিলেন পূবে ইয়্যাংগুন মূখী ! কারণ ওখানেও সামরিকজান্তা শাসন আর তিনি হলেন সামরিকজান্তার বউ ! আদর্শগত মিল ত থাকবেই , পৃথিবীর সবচেয়ে বড় গণতান্ত্রিক দেশকে খারাপ লাগারই কথা !

বেগম জিয়া রেকর্ড সংখ্যকবার মিয়ানমার গিয়েছিলেন , অন্যদেশ ততোটা সফর করেন-নি যতটা মিয়ানমারে সফর করেছিলেন ! অথচ আমাদের সমস্যা মিয়ানমারের সাথেই সবচেয়ে বেশি, যতটা ভারতের
সাথে, বেশি তার চেয়েও । ১, মিয়ানমার আমাদের জলসীমা দখল করে নিয়েছে ! ভারতও নিয়েছে কিন্তু মিয়ানমার অনেক বেশি । জলসীমা ৭৫ ভাগ আমাদের দখলে আছে আর বাঁকি ২৫ ভাগ বে-দখল হয়েছে ! বে-দখলকৃত ভাগের মধ্যে ৭৬ % অংশ মিয়ানমার নিয়েছে , শুধু চীনকে ব্যবহার করে ! অথচ বেগম জিয়া চীনের সাথে সম্পর্ক উন্নয়নে কৃতিত্তের দাবিদার ! যদি আপনাদেন পররাষ্ট্রনীতির ও কৃতিত্ত্বের এই নমূনা হয় তবে সেই কৃতিত্ত্ব বাংলার সর্বনাশ!!!!!! ২, মিয়ানমার রহিঙ্গা শরনার্থী দিয়ে ভরিয়ে দিচ্ছে বাংলাদেশে , অবস্থা এমন ভয়াবহ যে কিছুদিনের মধ্যে পার্বত্ত এলাকাতে বাঙালি তুলনায় রহিঙ্গাদের সংখ্যা বেশি হবে ! তারা দেশে ও বিদেশে নানান ওপরাধে লিপ্ত হয়ে আমাদের দেশের লোকের কর্ম সস্থান নষ্ট করছে ! বেগম জিয়া রহিঙ্গা ঠেকাতে পেরেছেন ? ৩, নাসাকাদের তৎপরতা ও সমূদ্রের বাঙালি জেলেদের উপর নির্যাতন ! আমাদের ট্রলার আক্রমণ ! ৪, মিয়ানমারের জলদস্যুদের দারা ট্রলার ছিনতাই ! ৫, মিয়ানমারের তেলজাহাজ অনুসন্ধান দলের বাংলাদেশে সীমানাতে তেল উত্তোলন ! এগুলো কি ফেলানীর চেয়ে কোম মূল্যের ?? ৬, চোরাচালানকারিরা যেভাবে যৌণ উত্তেজক ভায়াগ্রা ট্যাবলেট ও নেষার দব্য মিয়ানমার থেকে নিয়ে এসে যুবসমাজ ধ্বংস করছে ! তার সমস্যা কি বেগম জিয়া সমাধান করতে পেরেছেন ?? তিনি মিয়ানমারে কিসের আত্ত্বীয়তা করতে যেতেন এতোগুলো চরম সমস্যার জীয়ে রেখে ?? উনারা সমস্যা সমাধান করতে পারেন না কিন্তু সৃষ্টি করতে পারে !!!

এই সরকারের বিরূদ্ধে একটা সেন্টিমেন্ট তুলেধরা হয় , তা হলো ভারতের বিরূধী তাবেদারি নামে একটি শব্দ ! আফসোস হলো জিয়া নিজেই ভারতের প্রধানমন্ত্রী ইন্দিরা গান্ধীকে এককৌটা হীরা উপঢৌকন পাঠিয়েছেলেন আর চিঠি লিখেছিলেন আপনাদের সহযোগিতা কামনাকরি ততোটুকু যতটুকু পূর্ববর্তীসরকারকে করেছিলেন ! জিয়াউর রহমান ভারত সরকারকে টিপাইমূখী বাঁধ নির্মাণ করতে অনূরোধ করেছিলেন , যাতে সিলেটে বন্যা দূর হয় ! অপরদিকে আওয়ামীলীগ কখনই নতজানূ ছিলেন না , থাকলে যুদ্ধের মাত্র আড়াই মাসের মাথাই মিত্র-বাহীনি যেতনা ! বঙ্গবন্ধুর নীতিতে বলিয়ান ছিলেন ! তাইত ইন্দিরা গান্ধীর প্রস্তান সমর্থন করলেন না ! এক আলোচনায় ইন্দিরা গান্ধীর প্রস্তাব ছিল "যমূনার পানি বাংলাদেশের উত্তর বঙ্গের মধ্যদিয়ে আন্তঃনদী খনন করে পানি পশ্চিমবঙ্গে নিয়েগিয়ে তা আবার পদ্মা হয়ে ছেরেদিতে !" বঙ্গবন্ধু বল্লেন "যে পানি সয়ং সৃষ্টিকর্তা গোয়ালন্দে ফেলেছেন আমি শেখ মুজিব তা পশ্চিমবঙ্গে ফেলতে পারব না !" কোথাই নতজানূতা দেখলেন ????

প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা ১৯৯৬-২০০১ সালের মেয়াদে গঙ্গাপানি চুক্তি করেছিলেন ! তার সময়ে লালমণিহাটে ৩২ জন বিএসএফ নিহত হয় ! ভারতীয় জাহায় অবৈধ প্রবেশের দায়ে আটক হয় ! তার পরও শক্ত পররাষ্ট্রনীতির জন্য কোন সমস্যা হয়নি ! তবে যেটুকু আর্জন তা আওয়ামী লীগের জন্য !

এরপরও বলাহয় আওয়ামীলীগ ভারতের কাছে নতজানূ !! ফেলানীকে নিয়ে আবার রাজনীতির পায়তারা করা হচ্ছে , অথচ এটি রাজনীতির কোনদিক নয় ! এটি জাতীয় বিষয় যা সকলদলের মিলে করা উচিৎ ।ফেলানি কোন ছাত্রলীগের গুলি খেয়ে মরেনি , মরেছে বিএসএফ-এর গুলিতে । বিরোধী দলীয় নেত্রী এরজন্য নতোজানূ সরকারকে দায়ী করলেন । যদি তাই হয় তবে তার সময় ৪৯৬ জন মরেছ,বিএনপি আমলেই সীমান্তে বেশি হত্যাকাণ্ড হয়েছে, ২০০৭ সালে ৯৫ জন, ২০০৬ সালে ১০৬ জন, ২০০৫ সালে ৭৯ জন, ২০০৪ সালে ৩৫ জন, ২০০৩ সালে ৩৪ জন, ২০০২ সালে ৭৬ জন ও ২০০১ সালে ৭১ জন বাংলাদেশি সীমান্তে নিহত হয়। তারা কতবড় নতজানূ ছিলেন ! তারা ত নতজানুতায় বিশ্ব-রেকর্ড করেছেন মনে হয় । কারণ এর আগে ও পরে এত মানুষ হত্যা হয়নাই যতটা-না উনাদের সময় হয়েছে !!
উনারা কিছুই করতে পারেননি । তারপরও এই সরকারের মজবুত পররাষ্ট্রনীতির কারণে ভারত সরকার ষ্কমা চেয়েছে , যেটা কখনও বিএনপি সরকার আদায় করতে পারেননি !

এটাকে পূজিকরে দেয়ালে দেয়ালে পোষ্টার দেখলাম "ফেলানী ঝুঁলছেনা ঝুঁলছে বাংলাদেশ" . এই পোস্টার মনে করিয়ে দেয় "১৯৭৪ সালের কুড়িগ্রামের বাসন্তীর কথা" !! ৭৪ আমেরিকার ষরযন্ত্রে মঙ্গা হয়েছিল কুড়িগ্রাম এলাকায়। স্বাধীনতার পর এমন সমস্যা অসাভাবিক নয় , সেটা যেকোন দেশেই হতে পারে । আজ দেশ ৪০ বছর পর যদি মঙ্গা হতে পারে তবে সে সময় ত খুবই সাভাবিক ঘটনা ! কিন্তু তখন যেহেতু স্বাধীনতা উত্তোন নতুন তাই তখনকার ঢেঁউ এখনও তোলা হয় ! আর সে সময় এ্যান্টি-আওয়ামী লীগ গোষ্টীরা একজন গরিব ভিখারীণি বাসন্তীকে নিয়ে রাজনীতি করেছিল ! তার গায়ে আনুষ্ঠানিক ভাবে জাল পরিয়ে ছবিতূলে পোস্টার দেয়া হলো "বাসন্তীর গায়ে শাড়ী নেই" ! এটাই ৭৪ দূর্ভীক্ষ্য ! কয়েক বছর আগে টিভিতে দেখলাম সেই বাসন্তী এখনও ভিক্ষ্যা করে খায় ! তার ভাগ্যের কোন পরিবর্তন হয়নি , কিন্তু তাকে নিয়ে রাজনীতি করে রাজনীতিবীদগণ নিজেদের ভাগ্যের অনেক পরিবর্তন ঘটিয়েছে !

আমি ফেলানীর মাঝে সেই বাসন্তিকে দেখতে পাই । ফেলানী মরেগেছে কিন্তু তাকে নিয়ে কিছু স্বার্থন্বেষী মহল সেই ৭৪ এর বাসন্তি রাজনীতিতে মেতে উঠেছে ।

তারা চাইছে আরেকটা নোনইস্যুকে ইস্যু বানিয়ে রাজনীতি করার । যারা কোন সমস্যার সমাধান করতে পারেনা তারা আবার অপরের ব্যর্থতার সমালোচনা করে ! আমি ভারতের এসব হত্যার প্রতিবাদ করি , তবে এটাও ভাবি এটা শুধু ভারতের বিষয় নয় । এটা বিএসএফ না হয়ে নাসাকা হলেও এমনটি হতো , বরং বেশিই হতো । তার উদাহরণ পূর্বেই উল্লেখ করেছি । সীমান্তে বিএসএফের হত্যা বন্ধ করতে হবে, সাথে সাথে আমাদের দেশের সীমান্তবর্তী এলাকার অবৈধ উৎপাত ও অপকর্ম বন্ধ করতে হবে । কেউ কি একবার খেয়াল করেছেন ফেলানীর পার্শে মই ছিল ? ফেলানীর মতো নিরীহ মেয়েরা এদেশীয় দালালের খপ্পরে পরে ২০ – ৪০ টাকার জন্য জীবণ কে বাঁজী রেখে সীমান্ত টপকায় , তারা স্মাগলিং করে জীবণ হারায় । ফলানি তারকাটাতার সীমানা মই দিয়ে পার হতে দু:সাহস করেছিল জন্যই ত ওভাবে মরতে হলো । তাকে ঝুলে থাকতে হলো ওখানে উঠেছিল বলেই । তারা মেরে উপরে টাঙিয়ে রাখেনি যেভাবে বিএনপি সরকারের সময় বাংলাভাই রেখেছিল এইদেশিয় মানুষকে , এই ভূখন্ডে !!!

কিছুদিন আগে পত্রিকায় সংবাদ দেখলাম আমাদের দেশের কিছু চোর ভারতের কাঁটাতার রাখছে না । তারা তার কেটে এনে বাজারে বিক্রয় করে । কথাটা হাস্যকর হলেও মর্মান্তিক । এটা দেশের ভাবমূর্তিকে উজ্জ্বল করেনা । আমাদের দেশের এসব তৎপরতা ঠেকানো নাগেলে আমরা এইসব ইস্যু নিয়ে আন্র্ন্তজাতিক আদালতে গেলেও মুখ কালো করে মাথা নিচু করে ফিরে আসব । আসতে হবেও।

তাই ওদেরকে বদলাতে হলে আমাদেরকেও বদলানো দরকার । আর এসব নিয়ে যেন কোন নোংরা রাজনীতি না হয় তার জন্য সরকার ও জনগণকে সচেতন থাকতে হবে । আমরা চাই সীমান্তে হত্যা বন্ধহোক, নিরিহ কৃষকও মরে এটা নিয়ে ওদের সাথে আলোচনা করতে হবে , কার্যকর সমাধানের পথ বের করতে হবে । আগেও বলেছি এটা কোন দলীয় ব্যাপার নয় । তাই এনিয়ে কেউ যাতে দলবাজি না করতে পারে । কারণ তারাও কোন সমাধান করেনি , করবেও না । শুধু ক্ষমতায় যাওয়ার পথ সৃষ্টি করতে দেয়া ঠিক হবে না । তাতে দেশের কোন মঙ্গল হবেনা ।

ধিক্কার জানাই তাদেরকে যারা এখনও দাদাদের দালালিথে ব্যাস্ত। আপনার এখানে মন্তব্য করতে রুাচিতে বাধছে। বাচ্চাদের মত করে গরুর রচনা লিখেছেন আপনি। থুথু মারি আপনার ভারতের মুখে। কি মতলবে এখানে এসেছেন? কত টাকা খেয়েছেন? যদি খেয়েই থাকেন তবে আমাদের কেও দেন আমরাও দালালিতে নেমে পরি। বৈদেশিক মুদ্রা আয় হবে দেশে। কারণ সরকারের তো আবার খুব অভাব যাচ্ছে।

ফেলনী আর বিএসএফ ঘটনায় আমি ভারতীয় হিসাবে অত্যন্ত লজ্জিত।আমাদের দেশে ওই সংশ্লিষ্ট বিএসএফ দের কোর্ট মারটিয়াল শুরু হয়েছে।বাংলাদেশ আমাদের মিত্র দেশ।তবে প্রতদিন সীমান্তে দুই দেশের লোকই চোরাচালানে লিপ্ত ,যারা দোষী তাদের আদালতে বিচার করা উচিত।এটা একটা পৃথক ঘটনা ,আমাদের দেশে পুলিস বাহিনী আমাদের নিজেদের দেশের ক্রিমিনাল দের কেও কখনো কখনো এরং শাস্তি দেই ।এটাকে বাংলাদেশীর ওপর আলাদা করে দেখা উচিত নয় ।কিছূ বছর আগে 16 বিএসএফ কে গুলি করে মরে বিডিআর রা তখন কিন্তু ইন্ডিয়ান পুলিস বা বিএসএফ পাল্টা গুলি চালায় নি,তারা নিজেদের কন্ট্রোল করে ছিল ।এই ভিডিও টা বাংলাদেশের ঘরে ঘরে পৌছে দিলে সব বাংলাদেশী রাই আংটি ইন্ডিয়ান হয়ে যাবে।দুই বাংলার সংস্কৃতি আর অনেক কিছু তে অনেক মিল আছে ।কখনো কলকাতায় এসে দেখবেন ঈদের সময় আমরা হিন্দু রা আমাদের মুসলিম বন্ধুদের বাড়ি গিয়ে মুসলিম দের অনুষ্ঠানে যোগ ডি আবার মুসলিম রাও আমাদের দুর্গা পুজোয় আনন্দ করে।সারা ইন্ডিয়া তে মুসলিমদের প্রচুর অবদান তারা ক্রিকেট,বলীউড,আর্ট,সায়েন্স বিভিন্ন বিষয় এ কৃতিটিত্ত অর্জন করেছে।আমাদের দেশ 100 % সেকুলার কিছু বিচ্ছিন্ন ঘটনা ছাড়া ।যদিও আমাদের উপর মাঝে মধ্যেই উগ্রপন্থী অগ্রমন হয়,নিরীহ লোক মারা যাই , তাও আমরা সবাই মিলে মিশে থাকি।কোনও অন্য ধর্ম কে লক্ষ করে কেউ কোনও কটুক্তি ভাষণ ও দেই না।আমাদের দেশের মুসলিম রা হয এর জন্য সরকারী অনুদান পাই,এটা মনে হয় আপনার দেশেও পাই না।আমি এক ফ্যাক্টরির ম্যানেজার ,10 শতাংশ কর্মী মুসলিম,তারা সবাই নামায আদা করার জন্য সময় দেয়া হয়,ওই সময় এর জন্য আমরা হিন্দু কর্মী বাজেট করি।এত সবের পরেও যদি একটা বিখ্খিপ্ত ভিডিও আপনাদের মনে ইন্ডিয়া প্রতি ঘৃণা এনে দেই ,তবে আমি আপনাদের অনুরোধ করব একবার ইন্ডিয়া এসে ঘুরে যেতে সচক্ষ দেখতে পাবেন সেকুলারিষ্মের দৃষ্টান্ত.ভারত কে খারাপ দেখানো এখন একটা বাংলাদেশ স্টাইল হয়ে গেছে।শেখ মুজিবর আর তার পরিবার কে নির্মম হত্যা করত কী বড় অপরাধ নয়।ইন্ডিয়ান বিএসএফ এর একটা দুইটা ঘটনা যে ভাবে বাংলাদেশ টিবি চ্যানেল গুলো তে সময় পাই অতটা সময় আপনাদের নিজেদের দেশের ঘটন প্রচার পাই না।তার মনে কী বাংলাদেশে জলদস্যু তার নিজের দেশের ই লোকেদের মারে না,যখন এক বাংলাদেশী এক বা অনেক বাংলাদেশীকে মারে সেটা প্রচার পাইনা কারণ এখন টিবি চ্যানেল গুলো পাব্লিকএর কাছে সস্তা জনপ্রিয়তা পেতে চাই,তাতে তাদের বিজ্ঞাপন আসে ।আজকাল সবে কমার্সিয়াল ভ্যালু তে চলে.

জনাব রুহুল আমিন,সকল বিদেশী পণ্য বর্জন করা যায় না?ভাল করে খেয়াল করে দেখুনতো আজকের দিনে ভারতীয় কিছু খেয়েছেন কিনা?গরুর মাংস, পিয়াজ, রসুন, তরকারি, মরিচ ইত্তাদি???যদি ভুলে খেয়ে থাকেন তবে, গলায় আঙুল দিয়ে বমি করে ফেলে দিন। আর শপথ করুন কখনো ভারতীয় পণ্য খাবেননা, বেবহার করবেননা। যদি ভারতীয় লুঙ্গি, পেণ্ট, শার্ট পরনে থাকে তাহলে বলব আস্তে আস্তে বদল করে ফেলুন।আমরা নিজেরাই পারি নিজেদের দেশপ্রেম পরীক্ষা করতে।দেখবেন থুতু উপরের দিকে মরলে কোথায় গিয়ে পড়ে।

আন্দোলন নয়, এটা আধুনিক নরমেধ যজ্ঞ

বাংলাদেশের বর্তমান রাজনীতির একটা বৈশিষ্ট্য, বিএনপি নামক দলটি ক্ষমতায় থাকলেও রক্তপাত ঘটায়। বিরোধীদল হিসেবে থাকলেও রক্তপাত ঘটায়। রক্তপাত ঘটিয়ে এ দলের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা জেনারেল জিয়া ক্ষমতায় এসেছিলেন। এবং বন্দুকের ছায়ায় দল গঠন করেছিলেন। ফলে রক্তপাতের নেশা থেকে এ দল যেন আর মুক্ত হতে পারছে না। ব্রিটেনেও ব্রিটিশ ন্যাশনালিস্ট পার্টি বা বিএনপি নামে একটি বর্ণবাদী দল আছে। এই দল সম্পর্কে ২০০৪ সালে টোরি পার্টির তৎকালীন নেতা মাইকেল হাওয়ার্ড বলেছিলেন, "A bunch of thugs dressed up as a political party" (একদল দুর্বৃত্ত রাজনৈতিক দলের পোশাক পরে আবির্ভূত হয়েছে)। বাংলাদেশের বিএনপি সম্পর্কে এতটা কড়া মন্তব্য করা সাজে কিনা জানি না।
বিএনপি এখন বিরোধী দলের ভূমিকায়। তবু তারা মিছিল মিটিং করলেই লোক মারা যায়। কখনও তাদের ক্যাডারদের হিংস্রতায়, কখনও পুলিশের গুলিতে। ২৯ জানুয়ারি বিএনপির মিছিলে চাঁদপুরে ও লক্ষীপুরে পুলিশের গুলিতে মারা গেছে চার ব্যক্তি। ৩০ জানুয়ারি ঢাকা এবং রাজশাহীতে বিএনপিও গণমিছিল করেছে। ঢাকায় কেউ আহত- নিহত হয়নি। কিন্তু রাজশাহীতে এক ব্যক্তি নিহত হয়েছে।
বিএনপি ও জামায়াত দাবি করছে, নিহত ব্যক্তি পুলিশের গুলিতে মারা গেছে। পুলিশ বলছে, তারা রাজশাহীতে আদৌ গুলি চালায়নি। মিছিলের উচ্ছৃক্সখলতা নিয়ন্ত্রণে লাঠি এবং কাঁদানে গ্যাস ব্যবহার করেছে। বরং জামায়াত-শিবিরের লোকেরা লাঠি-গুলি নিয়ে পুলিশের ওপর হামলা করেছিল। নিজেদের গোলাগুলিতেই ওই ব্যক্তি মারা গেছে। এবং সে জামায়াত-শিবিরের লোক।
মৃত্যু মাত্রই শোকাবহ। তা জামায়াত-শিবিরের ক্যাডার মারা গেলেও শোকাবহ। রাজশাহীতেও এই মৃত্যুটি এড়ানো গেলে পুলিশ সকল বিতর্কের উর্ধে থাকতে পারত। অবশ্য ৩০ জানুয়ারি ঢাকায় বিএনপির বিরাট গণমিছিল হওয়া সত্তে¡ও ছাত্রদল ও শিবিরের ক্যাডাররা সংযত ছিল এবং পুলিশকেও কোথাও শক্তি প্রয়োগ করতে হয়নি এবং শক্তি প্রয়োগের আগ্রহও তারা দেখায়নি। তাদের এই সাফল্য ও কৃতিত্বকে ক্ষুণœ করার জন্য রাজশাহীতে তারা অকারণে গুলি চালিয়ে হত্যাকাণ্ড ঘটাবে তা বিশ্বাস করতে কষ্ট হয়। কিছু একটা ঘটলেই আমরা পুলিশকে একতরফা নিন্দা করি। কিন্তু এবার রাজশাহীতে গুলিতে একজন শিবির কর্মীরও নির্মম মৃত্যু হয়ে থাকলে তার আসল কারণ কি তা দেশের নিরপেক্ষ মিডিয়ার খুঁজে বের করা উচিত।
লিখছি নিরপেক্ষ মিডিয়া। কিন্তু বাংলাদেশে কথাটি উচ্চারণ করতে ভয় হয়। ঢাকায় একটি বাংলা দৈনিক পত্রিকা আছে, নিরপেক্ষতা হচ্ছে তার ঘোমটা ঘোমটার আড়ালে কুমতির অধিকারী গোয়েবলস-এর এক বকেয়া বাম শিষ্য হচ্ছে পত্রিকাটির সম্পাদক। অধিকাংশ সময় তিনি নিরপেক্ষতার ঘোমটা ধারণ করে থাকেন। কিন্তু অসতর্ক মুহূর্তে সেটি সরে যায়। তার আসল চেহারা বেরিয়ে পড়ে। রাজশাহীতে গুলিতে নিহত ব্যক্তি যদি শিবির কর্মীও হয় এবং নিজেদের গোলাগুলিতেও যদি তার মৃত্যু হয়ে থাকে তাহলেও এই মৃত্যু শোকাবহ এবং এ জন্য আমরা দুঃখিত ও শোক সন্তপ্ত এবং এমন দাবিও করি যে, এই মৃত্যুর আসল কারণ খুঁজে বের করা হোক এবং পুলিশ এ জন্য দায়ী হলে তাদের শাস্তি হোক।
কিন্তু রাজশাহীর এই একটি মৃত্যুর খবরে নিরপেক্ষ দৈনিকটির বুক একেবারে শোকাশ্রæতে ভিজে গেছে। ৩১ জানুয়ারি তারিখে তাদের প্রথম পৃষ্ঠার লিড নিউজের হেডিং হচ্ছে "ঝরে গেল আরও একটি প্রাণ।" তারপর গোটা খবরটিই হলো, একটি শোক মর্সিয়া। দৈনিকটির খবরের এই হেডিং দেখে আমার এক সাংবাদিক বন্ধু মন্তব্য করেছেন, রাজশাহীতে জামায়াত-শিবিরের লোক বলে কথিত এক ব্যক্তির মৃত্যু যতই দুঃখজনক হোক, সেই মৃত্যুতে নিরপেক্ষ দৈনিকটি যেভাবে শোকাশ্রæ ফেলছে (অন্য চারটি মৃত্যুতে তেমন শোকাশ্রæ ফেলতে দেখা যায়নি), তাতে পত্রিকাটির সম্পাদক একাত্তরের যে যুদ্ধাপরাধী ঘাতককে মিতা সম্বোধন করেন, আল্লাহ না করুন জেলবন্দী থাকা অবস্থায় তার মৃত্যু হলে (আমরা অবশ্যই তা কামনা করি না) এই সম্পাদক তো মাতম শুরু করবেন।
তা এই মিতা অথবা তওবা সম্পাদকের কথা আজ থাক। যারা তার পবিত্র চরিত্র সম্পর্কে আমার চাইতে বেশি অবহিত, তার হাতে লাঞ্ছিত এবং তার দ্বারা বিতাড়িত, তার এককালের বন্ধু সাংবাদিকরা তাদের অভিজ্ঞতা নিয়ে 'কুমতি মানস চরিত' নামে একটি বই লিখলে ভাল করবেন। আমি বিএনপির রক্তনেশার রাজনীতির কথা ফিরে যাই।
আগেই বলেছি, ক্ষমতায় থাকলেও বিএনপি রক্তপাত ঘটায়। ক্ষমতার বাইরে থাকলেও ঘটায়। এটাই তাদের রাজনীতি। সুষ্ঠু ও গণতান্ত্রিক রাজনীতির কথা তারা ভাবতে পারে না। আর গোড়া থেকেই তারা একাত্তরের যুদ্ধাপরাধী, হত্যার রাজনীতিতে দক্ষ জামায়াতীদের সঙ্গে পেয়েছে। আবার জামায়াতীদের আশ্রয়ে প্রশ্রয়ে হিযবুত তাহ্রীর থেকে শুরু করে অসংখ্য বিষাক্ত ব্যাঙের ছাতা গজিয়েছে। ফলে দেশে সন্ত্রাস, কিডন্যাপিং, গুপ্ত হত্যা ও নারী নির্যাতনরোধে একটি গণতান্ত্রিক সরকারকে হিমশিম খেতে হবে তা আর বিচিত্র কি?
বিএনপি ক্ষমতায় থাকাকালে দেশে একজনের পর একজন শীর্ষস্থানীয় আওয়ামী নেতা, সম্পাদক ও বুদ্ধিজীবীকে হত্যা করা হয়েছে। এই হত্যার পেছনে বিএনপির বহু শীর্ষ নেতা জড়িত ছিলেন বলে অভিযোগ উঠেছে। প্রকাশ্য জনসভায় গ্রেনেড হামলা চালিয়ে শেখ হাসিনাকে হত্যার চেষ্টা করা হয়েছে। বিএনপি- জামায়াত সরকার ক্ষমতায় থাকাকালে এর একটি হত্যাকাণ্ড ও হত্যাচেষ্টার কিনারা করেনি, কারও বিচার ও দণ্ড হয়নি।
বিএনপি ক্ষমতায় থাকাকালেই সরকারের কাছে সার ও কৃষিবীজ চাইতে এসে ১৮ জন কৃষককে পুলিশের গুলিতে জীবন দিতে হয়। ঢাকার জাতীয় প্রেসক্লাবে আইযুব-মোনেম খাঁর আমল থেকে এরশাদের আমলেও কোন কারণেই কখনও পুলিশ ঢোকেনি। কিন্তু খালেদা জিয়ার আমলে এই প্রেসক্লাবে পুলিশ ঢুকে সাংবাদিকদের নির্মমভাবে প্রহার করেছে। পুলিশকে দোষ দিয়ে লাভ নেই। পরে তো জানা গেছে কার নির্দেশে পুলিশ জাতীয় প্রেসক্লাবে ঢুকেছে এবং সাংবাদিকদের লাঠিপেটা করেছে। ঢাকার শামসুন্নাহার হলে মধ্যরাতে ছাত্রী নির্যাতন তো এক দারুণ কলঙ্কের কাহিনী।
বিরোধীদল হিসেবে থাকাকালেই বা বিএনপি কি করেছে এবং এখনও করছে? যতবারই বিএনপি হরতাল, মিটিং, মিছিল ডেকেছে ততবারই হত্যা রক্তপাত ঘটেছে। বাস, গাড়ি, দোকানপাটে আগুন লাগানো তো সামান্য ব্যাপার, বিএনপির ডাকা হরতালের দিনে এক গরিব রিক্সাচালক তার রিক্সা নিয়ে পথে বের হওয়াতে তাকে গাড়ি সমেত পুড়িয়ে মারা হয়। এক তরুণ ব্যবসায়ী গাড়ি চালাচ্ছিলেন, তার গাড়িতে বোমা মেরে তাকে হত্যা করা হয়। বিএনপির স্যাঙাৎ জামায়াত- শিবিরের ক্যাডারদের হাতকাটা, রগকাটা, শিক্ষক হত্যা, প্রতিপক্ষের কর্মীদের অপহরণ করে হত্যার পর ড্রেনে লাশ লুকিয়ে রাখার ঘটনা তো বাংলাদেশের রাজনীতির ইতিহাসে এক কালাপাহাড়ী অধ্যায়। তখনও পুলিশ যদি নিরীহ মানুষের জানমাল রক্ষায় কঠোরভাবে এগিয়ে যেত, তাহলে অবশ্যই রক্তপাত হতো।
আর তা হলে বিএনপির নেতা ও মিডিয়া চিৎকার শুরু করত 'পুলিশের বর্বর নির্যাতন', 'ফ্যাসিস্ট আওয়ামী লীগ সরকারের বর্বরতা।' আর নিরপেক্ষ দৈনিকটি নিরপেক্ষতার ঘোমটা সরিয়ে শোকাশ্রæতে গণ্ড ভাসিয়ে দিত।
এবারেও কি ঘটেছে? ২৯ ও ৩০ জানুয়ারির ঘটনা প্রবাহের দিকে তাকালে কি দেখা যাবে? ২৯ তারিখে বিএনপির পূর্বঘোষিত গণমিছিল করার কথা ছিল। পুলিশ ১৪৪ ধারা জারি করায় তা হয়নি। বিএনপি নিষেধাজ্ঞা ভেঙ্গে মিটিং মিছিল করতে যায়নি। কোন গণ্ডগোল ও রক্তপাতও হয়নি। কিন্তু চাঁদপুর ও ল²ীপুরে গণ্ডগোল হয়েছে এবং চার ব্যক্তি মারা গেছে। দিনাজপুর ও কিশোরগঞ্জে রক্তপাত হয়নি, কিন্তু গণ্ডগোল হয়েছে। ৩০ জানুয়ারি ঢাকায় বিএনপির এত বিরাট মিছিল হয়েছে, কিন্তু রক্তপাত দূরের কথা, একটি গাছের পাতাও নড়েনি। ঢাকায় আওয়ামী লীগের শক্ত ঘাঁটি আছে, এখানে বিএনপি ও জামায়াত-শিবিরের ক্যাডাররা উচ্ছৃক্সখল ও মারমুখী হতে সাহস পায়নি। কিন্তু একই দিনে রাজশাহীতে তারা মারমুখী হয়েছে, পুলিশের ওপর হামলা করেছে এবং জীবনহানি ঘটেছে।
একই দিনে ঢাকায় এবং ঢাকার বাইরে বিপরীত ঘটনা ঘটার কারণ কি? নিরপেক্ষ (নিরপেক্ষ দৈনিকটির মতো নিরপেক্ষ নয়) সাংবাদিক বন্ধুরা বলেছেন, ল²ীপুর ও চাঁদপুর দু'স্থানেই জামায়াতীদের ঘাঁটি শক্ত। রাজশাহীতে বটেই। দিনাজপুর ও কিশোরগঞ্জে হিযবুত তাহ্রীর গোপন ঘাঁটি গেড়েছে। লক্ষ্য করলে দেখা যাবে, এই পাঁচটি শহরেই গণ্ডগোল হয়েছে, তিনটিতে প্রাণহানি ঘটেছে। রাজধানীসহ আর কোথাও নয়।
সুতরাং বুঝতে অসুবিধা হয় না, রক্তপাত ঘটানোর উদ্দেশ্য নিয়ে কারা এই মারদাঙ্গা করেছে, পুলিশের ওপর হামলা করেছে এবং পুলিশকে আত্মরক্ষায় গুলি করতে হয়েছে। বিএনপিও আন্দোলনের নামে এই মারদাঙ্গা চায়। কিন্তু নিজেদের শক্তিতে তা করতে পারে না। বিএনপি ক্ষমতায় না থাকলে তাদের যুবদল, ছাত্রদলের ক্যাডাররা ভীতু মূষিক হয়ে যায়। মারদাঙ্গায় নেতৃত্ব দিতে চায় না। নেতৃত্ব দেয় জামায়াত-শিবিরের ঘাতক বৃত্তিতে ট্রেনিংপ্রাপ্ত ক্যাডাররা। আর এখন তো তারা দেশে রক্তপাত ঘটিয়ে হলেও অরাজকতা সৃষ্টিতে বদ্ধপরিকর। কারণ, একাত্তরের যুদ্ধাপরাধীদের বিচার বানচাল করতেই হবে এবং সেই লক্ষ্যে এই সরকারকে যে কোনভাবে এখনই ক্ষমতাচ্যুত করতে হবে। তাতে দেশে আবার রক্তগঙ্গা যদি বহে, বহুক। বিএনপির 'তারেক বাঁচাও' আর জামায়াতীদের গোলাম আযম তথা যুদ্ধাপরাধীদের বাঁচাও'-এর লক্ষ্য ও কর্মসূচী তাই এক হয়ে গেছে।
প্রাচীনকালে হিন্দু রাজারা অশ্বমেধ যজ্ঞের মতো নরমেধ যজ্ঞও করতেন। তান্ত্রিকেরা নরবলি দানের প্রথাও অনুসরণ করতেন। বিএনপি-জামায়াত বাংলাদেশে রাজনৈতিক আন্দোলনের নামে যা করছে, তাকে আধুনিক নরমেধ যজ্ঞ বলা হলে কি অন্যায় করা হয়? আওয়ামী লীগকে অবশ্যই আন্দোলনের নামে এই নরমেধ যজ্ঞ বন্ধ করার জন্য দৃঢ় ভ‚মিকা নিতে হবে। গণতন্ত্র অবশ্যই গণতান্ত্রিক প্রথায় মিটিং, মিছিল, আন্দোলন করার পথ খোলা রাখবে। কিন্তু গণতন্ত্রের মুখোশের আড়ালে কেউ যদি গণতন্ত্রের ভিত্তিকেই আঘাত করতে চায় তাহলে গণতন্ত্রকে অবশ্যই তার রুদ্র ও কঠোর মনোভাবটিও দেখাতে হবে। জন¯^ার্থ ও জনঅধিকার রক্ষায় শক্ত ভ‚মিকা ও কঠোর নীতির বিকল্প কিছু নেই।

শংকর কুমার দে/ গাফফার খান চৌধুরী ॥ দেশে বড় ধরনের অন্তর্ঘাত চালাতে পুরোপুরি প্রস্তত জামায়াত-শিবির ও জঙ্গীরা। নাশকতা চালাতে জামায়াত নিজেদের ভাণ্ডারে প্রচুর অস্ত্র গোলাবারুদ মজুদ করেছে। নিষিদ্ধ সব জঙ্গী সংগঠনের কাছ থেকে এসব অস্ত্র গোলাবারুদ সংগ্রহ করেছে জামায়াত। ঢাকায়ও ভারি অস্ত্র আনার চেষ্টা চলছে। ইতোমধ্যেই মাঝারি মাপের বেশ কিছু ভারী এবং ক্ষুদ্র আগ্নেয়াস্ত্র ঢাকায় আনা হয়েছে। জড়ো করা হয়েছে প্রায় ৫ হাজার জামায়াত-শিবির ক্যাডার ও জঙ্গীকে। তারা যে কোন সময় দেশের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ স্থানে অতর্কিতে হামলা করতে পারে । হালনাগাদ সব চোরাগোপ্তা হামলায় জামায়াত-শিবিরের সঙ্গে নিষিদ্ধ জঙ্গী সংগঠন হিযবুত তাহ্রীরের জড়িত থাকার তথ্য পাওয়া গেছে। প্রায় ২ বছর ধরে হিযবুত তাহ্রীরের নেতৃত্ব ছাত্র শিবিরের হাতে।
গোয়েন্দা সূত্রে জানা গেছে, যুদ্ধাপরাধীদের বিচার বানচালে দীর্ঘদিন ধরেই জামায়াত-শিবির ও জঙ্গীরা বড় ধরনের নাশকতা চালানোর চেষ্টা করছে। জেএমবিপ্রধান তথা জামায়াতের কেন্দ্রীয় নেতা মুফতি মাওলানা সাইদুর রহমান জাফর গ্রেফতার হওয়ার পর জামায়াত সম্পর্কে চাঞ্চল্যকর তথ্য বের হতে থাকে। সাইদুর রহমান গোয়েন্দাদের জানায়, জামায়াতের ছাত্র সংগঠন হিসেবে পরিচিত ছাত্র শিবিরের রয়েছে ১৫ হাজার প্রশিক্ষিত ক্যাডার। এসব ক্যাডার হাল্কা ও ভারি অস্ত্র চালনায় প্রশিক্ষণপ্রাপ্ত। এছাড়া জেএমবি জামায়াতের একটি শাখা। জামায়াত এদেশে ৩৬টি ইসলামিক উগ্র মৌলবাদী সংগঠনকে আর্থিক সহায়তা করে। জামায়াতের নির্দেশেই এদেশে হিযবুত তাহ্রীরের মতো সংগঠনের সৃষ্টি হয়েছে। আর সৃষ্টির পর থেকেই জামায়াত হিযবুত তাহ্রীরকে নানাভাবে সহায়তা করে আসছে।
হিযবুত তাহ্রীর বর্তমানে পুরোপুরি ছাত্র শিবিরের নিয়ন্ত্রণে। জামায়াত-শিবির অত্যন্ত কৌশলে হিযবুত তাহ্রীরের মাঠ পর্যায়ের নেতৃত্ব কব্জা করে নেয়। যার প্রকাশ ঘটে ২০১০ সালের ১০ জুলাইয়ে। চট্টগ্রামে হিযবুত তাহ্রীরের জঙ্গী মিছিলের নেতৃত্বদানকারী ৪ নেতাকে রাজধানীর কলাবাগানের একটি বাড়ি থেকে গ্রেফতার করে পুলিশ। গ্রেফতারকৃতদের মধ্যে নূর হোসেন চট্টগ্রামের ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইসলামিক ইউনিভার্সিটির এলএলবির দ্বিতীয় সেমিস্টারের ছাত্র। নাসির উদ্দিন মজুমদার চট্টগ্রাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে ফিন্যান্স এ্যান্ড ব্যাংকিংয়ে এমবিএ পাস । শেখ ওমর শরীফ চট্টগ্রাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের আইন বিভাগ থেকে পাস করে। সে বিসিএস পরীক্ষায় উত্তীর্ণ হয়ে সাব জজ হিসেবে যোগদান করে। পরবর্তীতে চাকরি ছেড়ে সে পুরোপুরি হিযবুত তাহ্রীরে যোগ দেয় । সে চট্টগ্রাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ছাত্র শিবির নেতা ছিল। অপরজন রাকিব উদ্দিন আহমেদ। রাকিব ১৯৯৬ সালে ঢাকার তেজগাঁও সরকারী বিজ্ঞান কলেজ থেকে এইচএসসি পাস করে। সে আইটি বিশেষজ্ঞ। সেও ছাত্র শিবির নেতা। দলীয় নির্দেশে হিযবুত তাহ্রীরের হয়ে কাজ করছিল।ওই সময়ই প্রকাশ পায় যে হিযবুত তাহ্রীরের মাঠ পর্যায়ের নেতৃত্ব মূলত ছাত্র শিবিরের দখলে।
জামায়াতী পরিকল্পনার অংশ হিসেবে রাজশাহী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ছাত্রলীগ কর্মী ফারুক হোসেনকে নির্মমভাবে হত্যার পর মৃতদেহ ম্যানহোলে ফেলে দেয়া হয়, মতিঝিলে সিরিজ বোমা হামলা চালিয়ে একজনকে হত্যা, গোলাম আযমের মুক্তি দাবিতে রাজধানীজুড়ে তাণ্ডব ছাড়াও মতিঝিলে পুলিশের ওপর হামলা চালিয়ে পুলিশের অস্ত্র ও গোলাবারুদ লুটসহ বহু আলোচিত ঘটনার সঙ্গেও জামায়াত-শিবির জড়িত।
সর্বশেষ রবিবার বিএনপির বাতিল গণমিছিল কর্মসূচীতে চাঁদপুরে লিমন ও আবুল হোসেন গাজী এবং ল²ীপুরে রুবেল ও আবুল কাশেম নামে ৪ জনের মৃত্যু হয়। গণমিছিলের নেপথ্য কুশীলব ছিল জামায়াত-শিবির। এটি ছিল পূর্ব পরিকল্পিত। সরকারকে বেকায়দায় রাখতে এমন ছক কষেই গণমিছিলে আয়োজন করা হয়।
গোয়েন্দা সূত্রে আরও জানা গেছে, জামায়াত-শিবির দেশে বড় ধরনের হামলার প্রস্তুতি নিচ্ছে। এ জন্য জামায়াত ঢাকায় অস্ত্র গোলাবারুদের মজুদ বৃদ্ধি করছে। ইতোমধ্যেই জামায়াত মাঝারি ধরনের বেশ কিছু অস্ত্র-গোলাবারুদ ঢাকায় ঢুকিয়েছে। ঢাকায় জামায়াত-শিবির ক্যাডার ও জঙ্গীদের আস্তানা গড়ে তোলা হচ্ছে।
২০১০ সালের ৩০ জুলাই রাজধানীর শাহআলী থানাধীন উত্তর বিশিলের ৭০/ক নম্বর বাড়ি ৪০ কেজি বিস্ফোরক, অত্যাধুনিক ম্যাগাজিনসহ ১টি এসএমজি, ১টি বিদেশী অটোমেটিক পিস্তল, ১টি তাজা গ্রেনেড, বোমায় ব্যবহৃত ২৫টি টাইমার, তিন ব্যাগ বোমার স্পিøন্টার, এসএমজি ও নাইন এমএম পিস্তলের ১৮টি তাজা বুলেট, ৩৬টি গ্রেনেডের খোলস, শতাধিক ঘড়ি ও বোমা তৈরির ফর্মুলাসহ গ্রেনেড তৈরীর বিপুল পরিমাণ সরঞ্জামাদিসহ প্রচুর জিহাদী বই উদ্ধার করা হয়। উদ্ধারকৃত বিস্ফোরকের তৈরী বোমা, গ্রেনেড পাকিস্তান, আফগানিস্তান ও শ্রীলঙ্কান জঙ্গীরা ব্যবহার করে থাকে। এছাড়াও বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন দেশের সরকারী নিরাপত্তা বাহিনীর মধ্যে এ ধরনের বিস্ফোরকের ব্যবহার দেখা যায়। তবে সবচেয়ে বেশি ব্যবহার করে আল কায়েদাসহ আন্তর্জাতিক জঙ্গী সংগঠনগুলো।

মালয়েশিয়া সরকার পদ্মা সেতু প্রকল্পে পূর্ণ অর্থায়নসহ সেতু নির্মাণের প্রস্তাব দিয়েছে। মালয়েশিয়ার প্রধানমন্ত্রীর অবকাঠামো বিষয়ক বিশেষ দূত (ভারত ও দক্ষিণ এশিয়া) দাতো সেরি এস সামি ভেল্লু গতকাল প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার সঙ্গে তার কার্যালয়ে সাক্ষাৎকালে এ প্রস্তাব দেন। বাসস। পরে প্রধানমন্ত্রীর প্রেস সচিব আবুল কালাম আজাদ সাংবাদিকদের জানান, বৈঠকে দ্বিপক্ষীয় স্বার্থসংশ্লিষ্ট বিভিন্ন বিষয় স্থান পায়। অ্যাম্বাসাডর অ্যাট লার্জ এম জিয়াউদ্দিন, প্রধানমন্ত্রীর মুখ্য সচিব মোঃ ওয়াহেদুজ্জামান, ঢাকায় মালয়েশিয়ার হাইকমিশনার জামাল উদ্দিন বিন সাহেব, সেতু বিভাগের সচিব আনওয়ারুল ইসলাম ও প্রেস সচিব আবুল কালাম আজাদ অন্যান্যের মধ্যে অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
এর আগে সোমবার মালয়েশিয়ার বিশেষ দূত যোগাযোগমন্ত্রী ওবায়দুল কাদেরের সঙ্গে তার কার্যালয়ে সাক্ষাৎ করে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে পদ্মা সেতু নির্মাণে অর্থায়নের প্রস্তাব দেন। প্রস্তাব সংবলিত একটি পত্র
তিনি যোগাযোগমন্ত্রীর হাতে তুলে দেন। বিশেষ দূত ৭ সদস্যের প্রতিনিধি দলের নেতৃত্ব দেন। এর আগেও মালয়েশিয়া পদ্মা সেতু নির্মাণে অর্থায়নের আগ্রহ প্রকাশ করেছে।
এছাড়া দক্ষিণ কোরিয়া, ইন্দোনেশিয়া ও চীনসহ বিভিন্ন দেশের কোম্পানি ২ দশমিক ৯৭ বিলিয়ন ডলারের এই বিশাল প্রকল্পে অর্থায়নে আগ্রহ দেখিয়েছে। বিশ্বব্যাংকের দুর্নীতির অভিযোগে ৫ মাস আগে এই প্রকল্পের কাজ স্থগিত হয়ে যায়। এরপর এ সেতু নির্মাণে মালয়েশিয়াই প্রথম আনুষ্ঠানিক প্রস্তাব দেয়।
সোমবার মালয়েশিয়ার প্রতিনিধি দলের সঙ্গে বৈঠক শেষে ওবায়দুল কাদের সাংবাদিকদের বলেন, মালয়েশিয়া পদ্মা সেতু নির্মাণে খুবই আগ্রহী। তারা আমাদের কাছে প্রস্তাব দিয়েছে এবং আমরা এ প্রস্তাব গ্রহণ করেছি।
তিনি বলেন, বর্তমান সরকার নির্বাচনী অঙ্গীকার অনুযায়ী বর্তমান মেয়াদে এই সেতুর কাজ শুরু করতে চায়।
বিশ্বব্যাংক গত আগস্টে দুর্নীতির অভিযোগে এ প্রকল্পের সহায়তা স্থগিত করে। কিন্তু সরকার এই অভিযোগ সরাসরি নাকচ করে দেয়। অবশ্য সম্প্রতি বিশ্বব্যাংকের ঋণের সময়সীমা ৬ মাস বাড়ানো হয়েছে। এই সেতু দক্ষিণাঞ্চলের ২১টি জেলাকে রাজধানীর সঙ্গে যুক্ত করবে।
২৯০ কোটি ডলারের পদ্মা সেতু প্রকল্পে বিশ্বব্যাংক ১২০ কোটি ডলার দেওয়ার জন্য সরকারের সঙ্গে চুক্তি করলেও পরে দুর্নীতির অভিযোগ তুলে অর্থায়ন স্থগিত করে। তাদের এ অভিযোগের তদন্ত করছে দুর্নীতি দমন কমিশনও, যদিও সরকারের পক্ষ থেকে বরাবরই দুর্নীতির অভিযোগ প্রত্যাখ্যান করা হয়েছে।

           I've been writing against Indian BSF tortures at both sides of the Bangladesh border of both Hindus and Muslims citing also the good works done for the victims by Human Rights groups like MASUM since 2004-5-6. Isn't it curious that our adorer jamai, the Mohi-uddin the Mohishasur-mardankari of Ma Durga made not squeak when the regime was BNP-Jamaat jote in Dhaka. Now he is suddenly voluble about Hindu BSF killing Muslim Bangladeshis, and it is all the fault of bharotbondhu Hasina and the AL party. Munafeqi of the communalism-crazies stink to high heaven! They are not in the least bit interested in lifting a finger towards a solution, or helping the victims.

India: Prosecute Security Forces for Torture
Recent Abuse Cases Reinforce Need to Enact Prevention of Torture Bill

(New York, January 31, 2012) – The Indian government should prosecute members of the security forces for recent high-profile cases of torture, to send a message that such practices will no longer be tolerated, Human Rights Watch said today.

Border Security Force (BSF) soldiers, long implicated in torture and extrajudicial killings near the border with Bangladesh, were captured in a video posted on YouTube brutally beating a Bangladeshi national caught smuggling cattle in West Bengal state. And the Indian government has awarded a medal to a police superintendant alleged to have ordered the torture and sexual assault of a female schoolteacher in Chhattisgarh state, instead of investigating him.

"These horrific images of torture on video show what rights groups have long documented: that India's Border Security Force is out of control," said Meenakshi Ganguly, South Asia director at Human Rights Watch. "The Indian government is well aware of killings and torture at the border, but has never prosecuted the troops responsible. This video provides a clear test case of whether the security forces are above the law in India."

In December 2010, Human Rights Watch, together with Banglar Manabadhikar Suraksha Mancha (MASUM), a Kolkatta-based nongovernmental organization that posted the video, and Dhaka-based Odhikar, published "'Trigger Happy': Excessive Use of Force by Indian Troops at the Bangladesh Border." This report documented numerous cases of indiscriminate use of force, arbitrary detention, torture, and killings by the BSF, and highlighted the failure of the Indian government to conduct adequate investigations or prosecute troops responsible for abuses. It showed that the BSF routinely abuses both Bangladeshi and Indian nationals residing in the border area. After the report's release, the Indian government ordered an end to the use of lethal force except in cases of self-defense. While the number of killings decreased, allegations of killings and torture have continued.

The video, reportedly filmed by a BSF soldier, shows members of the BSF's 105^th Battalion stripping a man, a Bangladeshi national later identified as Habibur Rahman, tying him up and beating him, while laughing and engaging in verbal abuse. BSF personnel apparently caught when he was engaged in smuggling cattle from India into Bangladesh. Instead of handing him over to the police as required by Indian law, they illegally detained and tortured him and then left him to make his way back home.

After MASUM released the video to local news channels, the BSF suspended eight soldiers – Sandip Kumar, Dhananjay Roy, Sunil Kumar Yadav, Suresh Chandra, Anand Kumar, Victor, Amarjyoti, and VirendraTiwari – and ordered an inquiry. However, despite clear evidence of abuse, to date no criminal charges have been filed against any soldiers.

"Whenever offenses attributed to the BSF occur, its leadership insists that there will be an internal inquiry and action taken," said Ganguly. "But secret proceedings and suspensions or transfers won't end the abuses. Torture is a serious crime that should be prosecuted in the courts."

Many people routinely move back and forth across the Indian-Bangladeshi border to visit relatives, buy supplies, and look for jobs. Some engage in criminal activities, such as smuggling. The BSF is charged with intercepting illegal activities, especially narcotics smuggling, human trafficking for sex work, and transporting fake currency and explosives. It is also charged with protecting against violent attacks by militant groups.

The failure of the Indian government to prosecute authorities responsible for torture extends to all of the security forces, Human Rights Watch said. In another recent disturbing incident, Soni Sori, a schoolteacher in Chhattisgarh state, alleged that she was tortured and sexually assaulted by Chhattisgarh state police while in custody in October 2011. After her arrest as a suspected Maoist supporter, a criminal court in Chhattisgarh state handed her over to police custody for interrogation despite her pleas that she feared for her safety and life. Sori alleges that Ankit Garg, then-superintendent of police for Dantewada district, ordered the torture and sexual assault. The Indian Supreme Court ordered Sori's transfer to the Kolkata medical college hospital for an independent medical examination. In November 2011, the examination report corroborated Sori's allegations of physical abuse.

To date, the Indian authorities have not initiated any inquiry or criminal action against the police officers implicated. Instead of investigating the case, on Republic Day, January 26, 2012, the president of India, Pratibha Patil, presented Ankit Garg with a police medal for gallantry. The medal drew widespread condemnation.

The Indian government announced, in March 2011, a rape compensation package for all sexual assault victims, but even basic follow-up reproductive and sexual health services have yet to be made available to survivors like Soni Sori. One of her lawyers told Human Rights Watch that Sori, who is detained in Raipur central jail in Chhattisgarh, has not received any follow-up reproductive and sexual health care. Her hemoglobin count has dropped considerably and she has complained of reproductive health problems but her lawyer is concerned that she will not receive adequate medical care without obstruction by the Chhattisgarh police. During her stay at the Raipur medical college hospital for medical examination and treatment in October, the Chhattisgarh police forced the doctors to remove her intravenous drip, refusing to let her stay in the hospital.

"Soni Sori's case epitomizes the callousness with which victims of torture are treated in India," Ganguly said. "The Indian government shamefully presents a trophy to someone implicated in torture, while doctors cannot even treat a torture survivor without police obstruction."

Human Rights Watch called upon the Indian government to ratify the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment and to enact the Prevention of Torture bill, which is currently awaiting cabinet approval before it is voted on by the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of parliament. The law should override all provisions of Indian law that allow government officials immunity from prosecution for human rights violations. It should also ensure that adequate time is given for victims to be able to file complaints, and that all forms of inhuman and degrading treatment are brought under the purview of the law.

"The BSF, the police, and other members of the security forces operate with impunity throughout India," said Ganguly. "When will the government in Delhi wake up and act to end torture and other human rights abuses?"

এতদিন বিশ্বব্যাঙ্ক দুর্নীতির অভিযোগে পদ্মা সেতুর ঋণ স্থগিত করেছিল । বিশ্বব্যাঙ্ক কি জিনিস ,যারা বহিঃবিশ্ব নিয়ে একটু খোজ খবর রাখেন তারা ভাল জানেন। আমার জিজ্ঞাসা এত বড় একটা প্রতিষ্ঠান এই একটা প্রকল্পের দুর্নীতির প্রমাণ দাখিল করতে এত সময় নিতাছে কেন । এ নিয়ে বিশ্বব্যাঙ্ক যতটুকু না হাকডাক করেছে প্রথম আলো তার চেয়ে বেশি করেছে । তবে আমি কখনও সাবেক যোগাযোগমন্ত্রী আবুল মিয়া কে যোগ্য বলতে চাই না ।

গতকাল পদ্মা সেতু প্রকল্পে পূর্ণ অর্থায়নসহ সেতু নির্মাণের প্রস্তাব দিয়েছে মালয়েশিয়া সরকার। আর এতে প্রথম আলোর গায়ে জ্বালা ধরছে । যারা ভাল করে খবরটা পড়েছেন তারা দেখবেন খবরের শেযে একটা অন্তরজ্বালার লাইন আছে ।

" বিশ্ব ব্যাংক গত আগস্টে দুর্নীতির অভিযোগে এ প্রকল্পের সহায়তা স্থগিত করে। "

খবরটা পড়ে মনে হল , প্রথম আলোর কাছে মালয়েশিয়া সরকারের দেওয়া প্রস্তাব যতটা না গুরুত্বপূর্ণ তার চেয়ে বেশি বিশ্ব ব্যাংকের কথিত দুর্নীতি !!!

মগজ ধোলাই ভাই, প্রথম আলোর বিরোধীতা করার অনেক অনেক উপাদান পাবেন। যেমন, এর সম্পাদক বদলে দেবার কথা বলছেন। উটপাখি না হবার কথা বলছেন। অথচ তার ছেলে সাশাকে তিনি কতটুকু কন্টোল করতে পেরেছেন তা নিয়ে লম্বা বিতর্ক হতে পারে।

কিন্তু, আপনি বিরোধীতার জন্য যে লাইনটিকে উদ্ধৃত করেছেন তা খুবই হাস্যকর (" বিশ্ব ব্যাংক গত আগস্টে দুর্নীতির অভিযোগে এ প্রকল্পের সহায়তা স্থগিত করে। " )

রিপোর্টে ব্যাকগ্রাউন্ড দিতে হয়। এটা যারা রিপোর্ট করেন তারা ভালো করেই জানেন। আপনি নিশ্চয়ই তা জানেন না।

@লেখক, আমি তো বল্লামই, তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে অনেক যুক্তিযুক্ত অভিযোগ আনা যেতে পারে। আপনার সাথে দ্বিমত নেই।

যাক অবশেষে পদ্মা সেতুর কাজ শুরু হবে জেনে ভাল লাগছে। আর প্রথম আলোর ব্যাপারে যেমন পজেটিভ কথা বলা যায় ঠিক তেমনি নেগেটিভ কথা বলার ইস্যুও কম নয়। আর সংবাদের নিচের দিকে কোন ঘটনার পুর্বে প্রকাশিত সংবাদের সারমর্ম প্রদান সংবাদ রিপোর্টেরই একটি অংশ। তাই এ ব্যাপারে আগের ঘটনার রেফারেন্স দেওয়া হয়েছে। আর প্রথম আলো অনেক ক্ষেত্রে অযাচিত বাড়াবাড়ি যে করে না তাও কিন্তু ঠিক না।

You have raised a key point namely, " by accepting the truth - - -". Now the question is how do you sift the truth from the lies? People trained in intelligence work will tell you that propagandists when they want a message to be accepted by the general masses or even unsuspecting intelligentsia, prepare their message using 95% truth, only the crucial 5% or so lie is mixed with it. Now like a hungry fish, the target group swallows the whole bait without being able to discern the falsehood in it. Like an expert angler the writers take great care and pain to weave the lies with the truth.

Now for a Muslim, once he accepts Allah's message, he is asked to be careful of this particular pitfall. And how to safeguard oneself from it? Let me clarify with an example from contemporary history. People of Bangladesh know one view of their history since 1971, or even before it. But read the views churned out by the Pakistani writers and fed to their youngsters. Is it the same? No. Both are speaking of the same events, citing proofs for their arguments etc. Now image a young mind born long after 1971 in, say US. He reads both sides in details. There is a chance that he will miss the TRUTH you are referring to.

Here comes in faith. A Bangladeshi MUST have faith that the history he is taught, is the true one. Or else he will be branded as a traitor/unpatriotic etc. In the same manner one who has accepted Islam as the last and true religion cannot, and should not, go about reading views who do not have any faith in it. For them all the TRUTH is enshrined in the Quran. That's the reason for " rejecting Hitty and Armstrong straight away ." My faith tells me that the source of all TRUTH is found. Eureka!! Period!! No need to dig out"truth" from other sources and pollute my mind. This way I am at peace with myself - the meaning of Islam!

Now the Quran and the Prophet of Islam has cautioned the Muslims to be wary of one group of people on this earth till doomsday. And that is the JEWS. When I accept Islam, I also by default, accept this cautionary message.

Why have the Muslims been cautioned is a different and a long story.

There is a term called orientalism. Eduard Said did extensive research on it. It is a recommended read for an inquiring mind. What a western scholar sees in the east and its past may not be unbiased and undistorted. I am not going into the possible reasons. Even Bankim was vocal against this sort of orientalism although the term had not been coined yet. The lesson is that we do not have to take every thing written by a western scholar about the oriental history, culture, and wisdom to be granted. But we also should not blindly reject every thing they have written about us.

I can ensure MR about one thing: by accepting the truth we know ourselves better and neither we nor our religions lose, we and our belief systems become more and more refined. Instead of rejecting Hitty and Armstrong straight away, we should read them critically while keeping an eye on other authentic resources.

'faith' became strong when brigandage committed by him from Yatrib
became successful. The poets believed in revelations always. Each
Arabian poet had their personal 'Kahin' from whom (s)he got her/his
verses. Poetry competition was a part of their national fesival. Abu
Lahab and his wife were superior poets than the prophet. Their sons
were married to the prophet's daughters. But soon the poetry
competition and ensuing enmity soured their relationship. The
marriages split up and the rest is history. Anyone interested may

Slavery like prostitution probably existed at one time or other throughout the world. However, it woudl be unfair to treat all types of slavery as one. In Pre-Islamic & post-Islamic Arabia slavery was not a defined by the color of your skin as it was in the Western Hemisphere specifically in the early history of the United States. In the ancient world - people entered into slavery because of personal and financial debts or because they were captured as prisoners of war. Relatives of the slaves could ransom and free their loved ones. Thus the status of the slave could change - it was not tied to the colour of the skin.

Prohet Mohammed also had a slave - before his calling - an Arab slave given to him as a gift by his older wife Khadija. When the relatives of the boy became aware that he is in the possession of the Prophet - they came to free him by paying for his bondage; however, the slave refused to go with his parents and continued to serve the Prophet. The Prophet then emancipated him by adopting him as his son and declaring his decision to the city of Mecca. Thus here once a slave - now became the legal heir of the Prophet.

At the early stages of Islam one abyssinian male named Bilal accepted Islam. He was still owned then by his non-muslim master until he was emancipated by one of the early companion of the Prophet by way of monetary compensation. Then he became one of the equals and his skin colour no longer determined his status. This type of slavery is indeed different from what was/is practised in other parts of the world. Let's take the example of the harijans of India (dalits/untouchables). They are yet to be fully emancipated despite the governments efforts to reward them with education and mobility. Harijans or outcastes had a lower status from which they could never escape - they do the menial work of the society - cleaning of tiolets - garbage collection etc. They could not marry outside their caste and are considered sub-humans by the pandits (cannot enter certain temple or drink and eat within vacinity of a brahmin - upper caste)............

Men are never "Owned" by another man rather "Responsible" for them. Which asks the person who have slaves to take care of them according to the standard of Islam. Which includes that, he/she be treated like brothers and sisters. History shows us slaves became ruler of lands as well. Which was IMPOSSIBLE in western world or ancient India. A lower caste person NEVER had any rights over person who owned them or belonged to a higher caste (By birth).

Islam also offered different ways to earn their freedom.

When we take a job (Chakurijibi), we are a part time slaves (Chakor) of our employers. We may not realize it but that is how we function in our "Modern world". Anyone or any company who treats employees better are encouraged. Islam is the only religion that CODIFIED in laws about "Rights of slaves".

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was known for freeing slaves NOT for enslaving free men just to do chores.

As another member pointed out, Islam also codified to FREE slaves as a sign of "Mercy".

Lastly I want to offer a hadith for our members....

He will not enter Paradise who behaveth ill to his slaves. The Companions said, 'O Apostle of God! have you not told us, that there will be a great many slaves and orphans amongst your disciples?' He said, 'Yes; then be kind to them as to your own children, and give them to eat what you eat yourselves. The slaves that say their prayers are your brothers.

Be kind to slaves as to your own children...and those that say their prayers are your brethren.

They (slaves or servants) are your brothers, and Allah has put them under your command. So the one under whose hand Allah has put his brother, should feed him of what he eats, and give him dresses of what he wears, and should not ask him to do a thing beyond his capacity. And if at all he asks him to do a hard task, he should help him therein.'

'There are three categories of people against whom I shall myself be a plaintiff on the Day of Judgement. Of these three, one is he who enslaves a free man, then sells him and eats this money'.

In short, there are many per-conditions to meet before any Muslim can think of enslaving anyone and in modern world it is almost impossible to imagine to find such a condition. So ALL Muslim majority countries declared slavery illegal.

To me, there is no such thing as "treating a slave fairly." Once you brand someone as a slave, you are already too unfair to him/her. Reward and praise for freeing a slave is not enough for a decent world; we needed abolition of slavery. Today slavery is prohibited in all the respectable societies and countries of the world. As the human civilization progresses, I have no doubt, more and more of the unfairness and injustices will be gone from the world.

As for religions, the bottom line is, if an honest reading of your religious books allows you to respect the religion, please do so. But do not claim it to be perfect, as you should be able to see from this particular example.

It also ordered it's followers to treat slaves fairly.

I saw Abu Dhar Al-Ghifari wearing a cloak, and his slave, too, was wearing a cloak. We asked him about that (i.e. how both were wearing similar cloaks). He replied, "Once I abused a man and he complained of me to the Prophet. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked me, 'Did you abuse him by slighting his mother?' He added, 'Your slaves are your brethren upon whom Allah has given you authority. So, if one has one's brethren under one's control, one should feed them with the like of what one eats and clothe them with the like of what one wears. You should not overburden them with what they cannot bear, and if you do so, help them (in their hard job).' "

I think most of us know the story of Bilal (RA). By asking him to call people to prayer, prophet Muhammad (PBUH) elevated this dark skinned ex-slave in front of Arabs. These are revolutionary steps when you understand all these were done over 1400 years ago!!

Annemarie Schimmel in "Islam: An Introduction", p. 67

Slavery was not abolished by the Koran, but believers are constantly admonished to treat their slaves well. In case of illness a slave has to be looked after and well cared for. To manumit [free] a slave is highly meritorious; the slave can ransom himself by paying some of the money he has earned while conducting his own business. Only children of slaves or non-Muslim prisoners of war can become slaves, never a freeborn Muslim; therefore slavery is theoretically doomed to disappear with the expansion of Islam. The entire history of Islam proves that slaves could occupy any office, and many former military slaves, usually recruited from among the Central Asian Turks, became military leaders and often even rulers as in eastern Iran, India (the Slave Dynasty of Delhi), and medieval Egypt (the Mamluks). Eunuchs too served in important capacities, not only as the guardians of the women's quarters, but also in high administrative and military positions.

To me, following any religion "correctly" would be to follow the essence of what is good in it, dump what is bad in it, and not waste too much time trying to prove something in it to be good when it actually looks pretty bad. I do not have the patience to hear the context in which something hateful was uttered in a religious book. Hateful words in a religious book do necessarily make that religion bad. To me, the context does not matter, because a hateful utterance is very likely to make the average follower hateful; the average follower is likely to have no time or wisdom to see the context. Also because most human beings should not have too much time to spend on religions; they need to keep using, developing and improving science and technology, without which even the religious fanatics would not have the quality of life that they are enjoying.

Here is an example of what I call "following the essence of what is good in religions." Mohammad's preaching of Islam had praise and rewards for people who freed slaves; he did not abolish slavery through his religion. To me, that was great in the 6^th century; and I can respect him for that. But now, we are not as primitive as the 6^th century people, we can do better than that. We not only abolish slavery, we treat all innocent humans with respect and dignity; we even afford a good deal of dignified treatment to criminals.

The problem with some of us that, when we "Decided" to look for filth, we end up with filth ONLY.

It is true that, three of four rightly guided Kalifa were murdered. That shows there were good and bad people in every communities in all periods of our collective history. For example, Mahatma Gandhi was also murdered by a fanatic RSS ( A fanatic Hindu organization) member. A scholar of history would read that fact and blame RSS for being so intolerant and ignorant person would laugh at how lame Mahatma's ideas were since he "Had to be killed" (Or Hindus did not want the British to leave India!!).

Both are points of view based on ONE fact of history. The fundamental issue here is NOT the history rather who is trying to extract what out of a valid history.

In recent history of Bangladesh both leaders of our freedom movement (Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Ziaur Rahman) were murdered by their own people. Does that make our "Aspiration for freedom" invalid???

The battle between good and evil took place many times in human history. Trying to extract wisdom out of it will take a little more reading of the "Context" rather than just the "Text" itself.

Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things.

They either plant governments who do not practice true Islamic edits or cause external problems with their money and technology. That's what I knew. Then all of a sudden QR or MR informed that Islam supports enslavement of non-Muslim prisoners of war. Islam discourages slavery, but much much better modern law prohibits slavery. So the world is better with modern law as the substitute for the Quranic teachings. Also modern law is sufficient. As a matter of fact, universal principles of all religions can be incorporated into modern law so that religious laws (example, Shariah Law) become redundant. Given the pluralistic societies, thinking in this line has become so urgent.

I know half-literate Islamic teachers teach the young kids that one day the entire world will embrace Islam. I am saying this from my own experience.

Can any one give me an example of an Islamic country where everybody isor was in peace? Thinking in terms of a purely religious society is totally unproductive and divisive. Let us keep our religion within our spiritual world.

You believe that slavery will be over when everybody accepts Islam. Now, can you put your hand on your heart and tell me that - there is no Muslim in this world who owns a slave or slaves? Or, there are no slave-laborers in any Islamic country in the world? You can't, because - there are many slaves in the Islamic kingdoms around Africa and Middle East even in this day and age.

I am sure you know that - thousands of workers, especially women, from Malaysia , Indonesia , Thailand , Burma , etc. were brought in the Middle East ( Saudi Arabia , Qatar , etc.) as maid-servants. When they arrived, they were assigned to their respective owners. It is a major violation of contract, if any servant tries to change the owner. To keep the maid under control, the owner confiscates her/his work permit and passport. As a result, maid can never go to somebody else to seek better pay or better job or leave the country to go back to their own country whenever they want. These women are sexually violated and abused; these are modern day slaves. Many of them have committed suicide; others are trying to escape, but nowhere to turn.

I know you will say that those owners are violating the tenets of Islam. You may be right. But, that's a lot of violators, probably - in the millions, at the heart of the Islamic world. Now, can you guarantee me that no one will violate this particular Islamic tenets when everybody (?) in the world embraces Islam? And, also tell me - when that happy time will come. I don't want the solution of slavery at the end of the eternity. As you know, Christians have the very same goal, which is - proselytize the entire world into Christianity. Are they going to sit idle in the mean time? How about billions of Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, and Atheists?

Before you believe in something, do some analysis, and think about it logically. Don't be an intelligent blind believer; I know - it does not make sense. Believing in something blindly does not make sense also.

One does not need to be too caustic to Annemarie Schimmel ! The Holy Quran does not hide the fact that it wants the whole mankind to embrace Islam. Those who want to spread Islam do so openly and hope that one day " everybody in the world accepts Islam." One need not be a genius to understand this much. The question is what does Islam preach about slavery. Does it encourage it or discourage it? That is the moot question. One does need to be an expert to decipher that Islam discourages slavery in any form. The Holy Quran and the Prophet of Islam have been unambiguous on this message. This is better than enslaving all prisoners of war including Muslims. At least Muslims are spared. Muslim warriors kept on conquering non-Muslim kingdoms for many centuries after the death of the prophet. That means slavery could not be brought to an end and with every conquest the world saw more and more slaves. I see this as follows: slavery has always been a profitable one. Religions like Christianity and Islam had to accept and help sustain this unethical and immoral institution until the age of enlightenment (may be 15th century) denounced it. Probably we all know that African slave dealers opposed the abolition of slavery by America.

To me, following any religion "correctly" would be to follow the essence of what is good in it, dump what is bad in it, and not waste too much time trying to prove something in it to be good when it actually looks pretty bad. I do not have the patience to hear the context in which something hateful was uttered in a religious book. Hateful words in a religious book do necessarily make that religion bad. To me, the context does not matter, because a hateful utterance is very likely to make the average follower hateful; the average follower is likely to have no time or wisdom to see the context. Also because most human beings should not have too much time to spend on religions; they need to keep using, developing and improving science and technology, without which even the religious fanatics would not have the quality of life that they are enjoying.

Here is an example of what I call "following the essence of what is good in religions." Mohammad's preaching of Islam had praise and rewards for people who freed slaves; he did not abolish slavery through his religion. To me, that was great in the 6^th century; and I can respect him for that. But now, we are not as primitive as the 6^th century people, we can do better than that. We not only abolish slavery, we treat all innocent humans with respect and dignity; we even afford a good deal of dignified treatment to criminals.

I saw the BSF stripping a Bangladeshi cattle trader (For NOT paying bribe!) video first in NDTV (Probably the most watched news channel in India). Did not know they work for Jamaat.

Never thought those Jamaatis had the brain to work with India mainstream media and be partners with BNP at the same time.

But being in "Mukto-Mona" always entertains me with new points of views (Which I was not able to imagine before!).

It was wrong what BSF did. That's why, as per Mohiuddin Anwar (BNP/Jamat), this incident has been investigated, and the BSF officer involved has been punished. At the same time, we have to recognize that - what Felani and her parents did was also wrong. But, her offense did not fit the punishment. That's why the BSF officer got punished.

Now, using the word 'friendship' to define a state-to-state relationship is not quite appropriate. State-to-state relationship is guided by mutual interest; as a result, it cannot be called a friendship. Friendship is based on selfless deeds. Therefore, to be exact, we have to analyze the border issue considering the interest of both sides. Otherwise, it will be sentimental analysis only.

The fact is I do not know what triggered the killing of the little girl, neither do you. I want to know more about it, before I pass my verdict on this unfortunate incident. That's why I expressed my skeptic views only. You are not saying much about it also. I watched those videos. It's a very sad story, if it's true. But, emotional discussions will not bring a solution to our border issue. What you said is an outburst of your emotion, which may bring lots of applause, but no solution. I want a practical solution to our border situation, not a sentimental analysis.

The hard fact is - if you go across the border in India, especially West Bengal, and live there in the border areas for a few days, you will hear many horror stories about border infiltration and criminal activities. People I know tell me that - they secure their cows with chains and padlocks at night. Even then, they find that many of them are gone in the morning. This is due to lucrative cattle-trade market in Bangladesh. Varieties of such illegal trades are going on daily across the border. Indian authority, especially - West Bengal government, even put barbed-wire fences to stop it. My guess is - BSFs must be under tremendous pressure to stop these illegal trades also. By saying this - I am not condoning the killing of the little girl.

You said India is behaving like a big-brother. The very same complain I also hear from many Canadians and South Americans about USA; I also hear the same complain from Tibetans about China. That's the reality.

No one should expect to get flowers for crossing borders. Having said that, no civilized nation shoots unarmed civilians. A young Bangladeshi girl from village is not a threat for India. That part should be acknowledged.

There are many Indian citizens who wants to have good relationship with Bangladesh and I have seen it in many occasions. There are many Pakistani citizens who want to have good relations with Bangladesh as well. However we have a large border with India and none with Pakistan. It has been made obvious even the Indian PM was unable to make any dent to very racist bureaucrats from India who wanted to punish "Muslim" Majority Bangladeshis for petty crime like border crossing. Life in India is not much better than Bangladesh and over centuries people crossed rivers to look for a living. Last two decades Bangladesh witnessed huge upward trend in quality of life. So today most people who need a job can get one in Bangladesh without crossing border. Historically people of Jolpaiguri had great relations with people of Panchagarch. People of Tripura had with Comilla. People of Assam had with Shylet. So there are many families close to border who have family members who live in India or Bangladesh. It makes me sad that, stupid bureaucrats from India do not show any understanding of this historical facts.

India is not engaged in any type of war with BD. So why India send most BSF guards who were posted in Kashmir to guard border with Bangladesh? They don't trust Bangla speaking guards to guard the border with Bangladesh. So failure to pay "Bribe" can be fatal. Kashmir is in many ways an active war zone. Historically BD villagers have had excellent relations with people of Indian states (Like Tripura, West Bengal etc), so what could have been achieved with bamboo sticks, India uses bullets for that task!!

One does not have to be a Pakistani lover to question India's ideas in this case. In fact Bangladeshis in different times went to both Indians and Pakistanis with open arms offering friendship/brotherhood but were abused by both countries in different times. Any Bangladeshis who deny this "Plain truth" can be labeled as "Rajakars". During 71 Pakistanis did not spare farmers, small shop owners, innocent Hindus and today India does not show any verifiable willingness to correct their mistakes (Of killing unarmed civilians) for many years. Despite many assurances from top level, when it comes to Bangladesh, we are pretty much an "After thought" for these arrogant nations.

(Now a little self-criticism) Still I cannot put 100% blame on them for acting like it. Unlike any civilized nation on the face of the earth we are willing to sell our dignity to either Indians or Pakistanis in most cases. Some people cannot see any fault of Pakistan and the others cannot find a way to ask an honest questions to Indian authority when our unarmed civilians are murdered every month like a pigeon during pigeon hunting season. It is our own fault that, we are still acting like a boy who always needs protection from a "Mother country" and do not have guts to put a stop on this.

I do not like blind haters of India or Pakistan. So I took the time and asked around people from all neighbors of India. I did not expect any "Love" from Pakistanis for Indians BUT to my surprise almost all citizens I spoke with (From Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives) expressed their disapproval of India for trying to play "Big brother" in this region. Most people of Bangladesh are not automatically anti_Indians but very stupid Indian policies towards Bangladesh FORCED them to act like anti-Indians.

The level of discrimination is so obvious and huge that, it will take many posts to list them. Yesterday I read West Bengal PM "Didi Momota" (She is known as didi to most of her followers) did not approve of enclave exchanges with Bangladesh. "Momotabihin momota" is harsher than cruel Delhi bureaucrats when it comes to Bangladesh. Hopeless idiots among us still struggles to find a way to lend their supports to such people who want to steal our dignity from us!!

Like most Bangladeshis I will always have some extra affection for all Bangla speaking people all over the world. Saurov Ganguly will always have some extra support for being a Bangali, Still I hope as a group we learn have some decency and respect for our own people for a change. Some of the posts from blind Pakistani lovers and blind India lovers makes me sick!!

We owe it to hundreds of thousands of "Shaheeds" who laid their lives to free us from regional masters. It would be very ungrateful of us if we fail to put our country first over our biases on local politics. it is important that we start acting like Bangladeshis for a change? Other wise what is the point of having a free country????

I feel Indian lost many opportunities to be friendly with Bangladesh and will review it's failed policies and take necessary measure to fix it before it is too late.

The function of a border guard is to protect the border from illegal intrusion. Anything can happen when someone tries to cross the border illegally. What do you expect from a BSF guard when you try to cross the border illegally – a bouquet of flowers? You already mentioned that Indian authority has punished those killers. I am a doubter, I admit; I doubt everything. So, I think that recent video of border-beating and the picture of the dead well-dressed little girl at the Bangladesh-India border need some scrutiny. How did she get killed? Did somebody hung her dead body at the fence for pictures? If not, why she wanted to cross the border. Are they part of an organized black-market ring? Or, were they innocent victims of a setup by some vested interest groups for obtaining political talking-points? How did they acquire those images if these incidents occurred on the other side of the border? Anybody knows?

If these incidents were not due to a border-intrusion by BSF, I agree with you on the point that - whatever happens at the border involving illegal border crossings should have no bearing on the relationship between the two neighboring countries.

I know the best brain surgeon, it was in Readers' Digest Article, of Johns Hopkins crossed the border 7 times while he was a teen ager, police put him back 6 times because he surrendered and was arrested, he used to pick ripe red tomatoes as a farm worker boy, went to school did very well and became a brain surgeon, now he says pick up red tomato like brain tumour from his patients' brains; he spends at least 25% of his time and money volunteering and helping other poor kids irrespective of ethnicities to go to school and for their education
