[ALOCHONA] Fraudulent Destiny applies for banking permission

Fraudulent Destiny applies for banking permission

Former chief of Bangladesh Army, Lieutenant General [Retired] Harun Ar Rashid has once again come forward in creating newer scope for the fraudulent Destiny 2000 Limited in helping it in obtaining license to launch a bank, though Destiny already is continuing banking activities through Destiny Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited [DMCSL], which claims to be have issued license by the Bangladesh government in 2005 as "financial institution".

General Harun has applied for permission of Destiny Bank Limited, where the members of the fraudulent MLM Company are the founder directors. It may be mentioned here that, Destiny 2000 Limited has visibly looted at least 65 thousand crore Taka from more than 4.8 million people by selling "TREE" in their fake plantation project. Lt. Gen. Harun Ar Rashid is the chairman of this fraudulent project. Meanwhile it is learnt that, mastermind of Destiny Group, Mohammad Rafiqul Amin is using General Harun Ar Rashid and his connections being one of the top leaders of Sector Commander's Forum in lobbying in the ruling party for obtaining permission of the bank. It is learnt that, Destiny 2000 Limited is secretly offering bribes to a number of influential figures in the ruling party through General Harun for obtaining the license. General Harun's direct involvement with Destiny fraudster will ultimately put the very image of Bangladesh Armed Forces in stake.

It may be mentioned here that, Destiny 2000 Limited has sold trees in their so-called plantation project to innocent people by alluring them with the offer of huge profit. But in reality, Destiny does not own even a small fraction of the land, which they are showing to people as lands already "acquired" by them. In most cases, fraudsters of Destiny 2000 Limited are showing photographs of Sunderban to innocent investors with the claim of being "plantation project" of this dubious enterprise.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Rafiqul Amin is publicly claiming to have "direct connection" with one of the most influential female members of the political family in Bangladesh.

Weekly Blitz published a number of reports on the illegal activities of Destiny 2000 Limited, including money laundering by Mohammad Rafiqul Amin, which are now under active investigation with Bangladesh Bank and Anti Corruption Commission.

At the reaction of the members of Destiny Group, the owners of this fraudulent MLM Company privately announced the launching of the flights of Best Air, which is another fake project of this group. It may be mentioned here that, Destiny has collected a few hundred crore Taka from the people by selling shares of Best Air, though there is no such existence of any aircraft of this company except an office at Dhaka's Badda area.

Meanwhile, dubious multilevel marketing [MLM] company, Destiny 2000 Limited made a nefarious attempt by sending one of the employees of a company owned by this group, who tried to gather information on the movements of the Weekly Blitz editor, which is doubted to be attempt of assassination.

On November 15, 2011, a person named Musaddek went to Weekly Blitz office during noon time and introduced himself to be an employee with an "advertising agency" and wanted to meet the editor of Weekly Blitz. When he was told that the Weekly Blitz editor was not available, he first made a call at the cell phone of the Blitz editor from 0181-7584216 and then from 01711-223370. When the call was returned at 01711-223370, the man introduced himself to be Musaddek, owning a news agency. The Blitz editor wanted to know the name of the news agency, and the man said, he was willing to meet the Weekly Blitz editor to discuss some important issue related to his news agency.

As the same time, the man gave two different identities to the Weekly Blitz, first being from an advertising agency and then being from a news agency, his background was investigated through various contacts, including some intelligence agencies in the country, and finally it was revealed that, this man works with Boishakhi Television, a private TV channel recently purchased by the Destiny 2000 Limited. It was also learnt that after buying the company, Destiny authorities have collected a few hundred crore Taka from innocent people by selling of "share packages" of this TV company.

The case of suspicious visit by the employee of Destiny 2000 Limited has already generated serious doubts in the minds of the Weekly Blitz management, and the matter has already been properly reported with authorities concerned in Bangladesh.

It is learnt that, Ministry of Finance and Bangladesh Bank are seriously investigating the illegal operation of a financial institution by the Destiny 2000 Limited as well as running of a fake life insurance company. None of such enterprises have any license from the authorities concerned. Running any financial institution without valid license is a criminal offence, punishable under the laws of the land. Similarly, running of any insurance company with any license is clearly a serious crime. But, Destiny 2000 Limited pays damn to any such laws of the land, as they are trying to keep all such government offices under their evil control by paying huge amount of bribe on a monthly basis.

[mukto-mona] The Rebirth of Social Darwinism

Big government and powerful state machinery are not synonymous. To the repubicans a big government means a bigger share held by the government in the business and administrative affairs of the country. On the other hand a poweful state machinery does not always mean a big government. It only means too much intervention in the public life by the state. Too much control of the public life by the state may not be desirable. The assumption is that individuals should have greater freedom provided that too much freedom enjoyed by the individuals does not adversely affect the freedom of other individuals. State can be so powerful that it can terrorize its own citizens; it can take decisions that do not reflect the collective wisdom. This state machinery is a tiny but very powerful complex system comprised at the core of a vested intrest group, bureucracy, and a political coterie wedded to a particular ideolohgy or sovcio-economic and political belief systems. China has a big government and also a powerful state machinery. Stalinist Soviet Union also represented a big government and a powerful state machinery. Hitler's was probably a small government with a very powerful state machinery. Any capitalist country ruled by a dictatorship falls into this category. Those who believe in a small government do not take into cognizance that supporters of small government are trying to fish in the troubled waters of confusion between big government and poweful state machinery. They want small government consequently having less control on the affairs of the greedy corporations and other business organizations. Effectively they want the greedy business organizations to control individual life. In other words, they want the greedy business organizations to play the role of a powerful state machinery although by not using the police or other brutal force as are used by the state machinery. Their mode of control would be more psychological. But they will also want a powerful state machinery backed by a smaller government (only in the sense of less involvemnent in business and administrative affairs) to control public life and limit freedom of individuals vide the article by Robert Reich.

The implication of Regan's quote is not absence of government; it implies less government is always better for the society, but not so for politicians. When government have bigger and bigger influence on society, politican get more and more contol of the society.

Reagan was a rogue of an inferior order.  Why else would he contest all his life to be a part of the thing he detests(Government) so much?

With his 'government is the problem' political philosophy, Regan has done a lot of harm to the USA through his deregulation efforts. Deregulation helped the dishonest rich, not the regular working people. Response from S. Bain: One really has to have a lot of irrational fixation to call Barak Obama a Marxist. To me, he is as much of a capitalist as any other leader of this country. He is no more liberal than what Lyndon B. Johnson or Franklin D. Roosevelt was. Dr. Roy should give some real examples where Obama was like a Marxist.

I mostly agree with everything, except on one or two points. The good news is - Americans have started to pay attention to the politics recently - and this has made some impact on the political establishment already.

I like what President Regan has said - government is not the solution, government is the problem. We have given trillions of our hard-earned tax dollars to the government, what they have done with it – they have given it to their cronies, sponsors, and people are still suffering. You know what happened with Solyndra and others green initiatives. These money will never come back. We just lost hem.

I know many people think financial institutions (Banks, Wall Street firms, etc.) are the culprits, but that is not correct; these institutions either have paid then back fully or about to do so. The money given to the financial institutions will come back to the government treasury; we will probably make money on these investments.

Free systems (political, social, economic, education, etc.) need to take care of our problems. This country has abundant opportunities and resources for everybody in this country. Those who do not want to avail them, nobody can help them. I know a recent immigrant young man from Bangladesh, who works in a restaurant as a waiter/delivery boy. He bought a one bedroom co-op house at Bronx, which he shares with a renter. I have visited his house recently. In contrast, I see many people here, who are second/third generations in this country, but have no place to live, and need government help to feed their families. Who can help them?

Anyway, I have followed Barak Obama from the very beginning since his candidacy for the Presidency. He is more like a Marxist. American is like a giant ship, it is hard to divert her course. That's what happened with Obama. He tried to stir it to the left as much as he could, but due to sudden political shift in the Congress within a short time, he could not do so.  That's why I trust in the American people and the system.

Thanks.

While Dr. Roy and I disagree on the political awareness of the American people, I can see some of his points, although with some different interpretations.

I can understand the apprehension that the earlier generation Americans may have against the recent immigrants from failed and backward countries. When I say that the average American is very poor in politics, I mean they are poor in foreign as well as domestic political affairs.

The way I see it, in a developed country, if a couple honestly works 40+40 hours a week, they should have a guarantee of the basic needs of life, such as food, clothing, a reasonable place to live, basic healthcare, and education for their minor children. That should happen no matter what kind of work they do; even flipping hamburger in a fast food restaurant is essential work for the system. That should happen without the couple needing help from any kind of charity, and feeling like beggars. I am sure the USA is capable of doing that without stopping the exponential capitalistic rewards for great innovators such as Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. I am sure the USA has the overall financial strength to do that without lowering the living standards of the middle class. The problem is, the big money players in politics are good in manipulating the politically unaware population, which is mostly middle class, to fulfill their greed through getting their cronies elected to power.

In spite of what I wrote above, I agree with Dr. Roy that the USA is still a far better nation than most of the others in the world. For people like Dr. Roy and me, the USA is probably the best.

Indeed there were many visionary leaders in the USA. However, many of them were as liberal as, or more so than, Barak Obama. If Obama were a socialist, I wonder what we should call FDR or LBJ!! I would not call even Robert Reich a socialist; he is a decent capitalist, similar to many of the past great visionary leaders of this country.

While I criticize the excessive corporate and executive greed, I am also optimistic about the USA. To me, following are some of the reasons why the USA is most powerful, and will continue to be so for a long time:

1)      The country's ability to attract and keep foreign talents through respecting and rewarding people based upon their talent and upon the contents of their character. This would allow the country to maintain its scientific and technological lead.
2)      The population of this country is generally honest, decent, caring, and devoid of the nonsensical prejudices that prevail in many parts of the world.
3)      The country has a great political system (which would have worked better if the population as a whole were more politically educated).
4)      The country has an advanced judicial and law enforcement system.
5)      The country is rich in many natural resources.
6)      The country would not be overburdened by population any time soon.

Well, so long for now,

Sukhamaya Bain

Dr. Bain: When it comes to politics, American people are probably the most idiotic in the developed world.

JR: I respectfully disagree with the above statement. Yes, it is true - American people do not care much about the outside world as people from other countries do. And, yes, Americans are not as political as recent immigrants, like me, from other countries. Why would previous generation of Americans listen to our opinion? Many of these immigrants came from failed countries anyway. In fact they don't. That's a good news.

When I analyze, I see the following. Apart from foreign affairs, previous generation of Americans have done pretty well in the domestic front. They have made pretty good decisions when it comes to internal politics. The proof is everywhere, if we care to look around sincerely with open mind, not biased by religious and political biases/interests.

While most of the developed European world was almost devoured by communism, Americans fended this beautiful land from it, and built their country a superpower in the world. It became so because of their right social policies and structures. I always get amazed by the subway system in the New York City - that was built more than 100 years ago, when it was totally unnecessary. You can easily imagine - what type of visionary leaders is needed to make that decision. I love and appreciate everything these people have achieved; I am grateful to them for allowing me to share their wealth and opportunity, which no other country in the world will do. I cannot call them 'politically most idiotic in the developed world.' I just can't prove it.

It is true - the political system is not perfect, but it is better than anywhere else. I can't find any other polical system that will be better than this. The system is so fair that a socialist (Obama) can also raise billion dollars for the election.

Many people say – better days of America are behind; I don't think so. I believe American people will make correct decision in 2012 to elect social conservatives, as they always do.  Usually, they balance power towards center-right. American academicians are hell-bent to indoctrinate young generations to social liberalism. The good news is - they have been doing so forever with little success; once Americans grow up - they revert to social conservatism. My worry now with many more social liberals in the recent immigrant communities in the country.

The other day i saw republican debate i was pretty disgusted by their ideas. They will never change and will try to feed the same crap about how anything related to wealth distribution is socialism and hence evil. Another frenzy was about who was better christian. I think Thomas Jefferson would roll over in his grave if he heard this argument. And that female candidate, i forgot her names already told in a Q/A that she will push for teaching intelligent design in school text books. I guess in coming days as liberals are not taking the country anywhere I'm afraid a far right orgy is in place.

When it comes to politics, American people are probably the most idiotic in the developed world. I remember the then Vice-President Dick Cheney was once asked about what he thought about the fact that a majority of the American people thought Saddam Hussein was behind 9/11. His answer was that he was not surprised. Of course, he was not surprised, because he was smart enough to know that the average Americans were only-the-sports-page-reader idiots, and that they had no real idea why the USA had to go for a war in Iraq.

Talking about the American people taking the initial step of electing some clowns in 2010, I think in this country the elections are controlled by big money doing big propaganda, not by the consciousness of the American people. Even Obama was a billion dollar fund-raiser.

I think people like Dr. Roy should make informative counter-arguments against Dr. Reich's comments, as opposed to just calling him an ultra-liberal democrat.

After getting tired of ceaseless empty promises and rhetoric from Obama and other democratic liberals during 2008 - 2010, American people took the initial step at the end of 2010 – by electing conservative Republicans in the Congress. That's step one. Now, step 2 is coming at the end of 2012. In the mean time, the national debt has surpassed unthinkable 15T, without the prospect of economic recovery.  If liberal policies could revive the economy and create jobs, it would have happened by now. Robert Reich is an ultra-liberal democrat; what else can he say, except bunch of liberal blathering, when he has nothing to show?
To understand the consequence of liberalism, please look at the EC, especially Greece and Italy.

The Rebirth of Social Darwinism

hat kind of society, exactly, do modern Republicans want? I've been listening to Republican candidates in an effort to discern an overall philosophy, a broadly-shared vision, an ideal picture of America.

They say they want a smaller government but that can't be it. Most seek a larger national defense and more muscular homeland security. Almost all want to widen the government's powers of search and surveillance inside the United States - eradicating possible terrorists, expunging undocumented immigrants, "securing" the nation's borders. They want stiffer criminal sentences, including broader application of the death penalty. Many also want government to intrude on the most intimate aspects of private life.

They call themselves conservatives but that's not it, either. They don't want to conserve what we now have. They'd rather take the country backwards - before the 1960s and 1970s, and the Environmental Protection Act, Medicare, and Medicaid; before the New Deal, and its provision for Social Security, unemployment insurance, the forty-hour workweek, and official recognition of trade unions; even before the Progressive Era, and the first national income tax, antitrust laws, and Federal Reserve.

They're not conservatives. They're regressives. And the America they seek is the one we had in the Gilded Age of the late nineteenth century.

It was an era when the nation was mesmerized by the doctrine of free enterprise, but few Americans actually enjoyed much freedom. Robber barons like the financier Jay Gould, the railroad magnate Cornelius Vanderbilt, and the oil tycoon John D. Rockefeller, controlled much of American industry; the gap between rich and poor had turned into a chasm; urban slums festered; women couldn't vote and black Americans were subject to Jim Crow; and the lackeys of rich literally deposited sacks of money on desks of pliant legislators.
Most tellingly, it was a time when the ideas of William Graham Sumner, a professor of political and social science at Yale, dominated American social thought. Sumner brought Charles Darwin to America and twisted him into a theory to fit the times.
Few Americans living today have read any of Sumner's writings but they had an electrifying effect on America during the last three decades of the 19th century.

To Sumner and his followers, life was a competitive struggle in which only the fittest could survive - and through this struggle societies became stronger over time. A correlate of this principle was that government should do little or nothing to help those in need because that would interfere with natural selection.

Listen to today's Republican debates and you hear a continuous regurgitation of Sumner. "Civilization has a simple choice," Sumner wrote in the 1880s. It's either "liberty, inequality, survival of the fittest," or "not-liberty, equality, survival of the unfittest. The former carries society forward and favors all its best members; the latter carries society downwards and favors all its worst members."
Sound familiar?

Newt Gingrich not only echoes Sumner's thoughts but mimics Sumner's reputed arrogance. Gingrich says we must reward "entrepreneurs" (by which he means anyone who has made a pile of money) and warns us not to "coddle" people in need. He opposes extending unemployment insurance because, he says, "I'm opposed to giving people money for doing nothing."

Sumner, likewise, warned against handouts to people he termed "negligent, shiftless, inefficient, silly, and imprudent."
Mitt Romney doesn't want the government to do much of anything about unemployment. And he's dead set against raising taxes on millionaires, relying on the standard Republican rationale millionaires create jobs.

Here's Sumner, more than a century ago: "Millionaires are the product of natural selection, acting on the whole body of men to pick out those who can meet the requirement of certain work to be done… It is because they are thus selected that wealth aggregates under their hands - both their own and that intrusted to them … They may fairly be regarded as the naturally selected agents of society." Although they live in luxury, "the bargain is a good one for society."

Other Republican hopefuls also fit Sumner's mold. Ron Paul, who favors repeal of Obama's healthcare plan, was asked at a Republican debate in September what medical response he'd recommend if a young man who had decided not to buy health insurance were to go into a coma. Paul's response: "That's what freedom is all about: taking your own risks." The Republican crowd cheered.
In other words, if the young man died for lack of health insurance, he was responsible. Survival of the fittest.

Social Darwinism offered a moral justification for the wild inequities and social cruelties of the late nineteenth century. It allowed John D. Rockefeller, for example, to claim the fortune he accumulated through his giant Standard Oil Trust was "merely a survival of the fittest." It was, he insisted "the working out of a law of nature and of God."

Social Darwinism also undermined all efforts at the time to build a nation of broadly-based prosperity and rescue our democracy from the tight grip of a very few at the top. It was used by the privileged and powerful to convince everyone else that government shouldn't do much of anything.

Not until the twentieth century did America reject Social Darwinism. We created the large middle class that became the core of our economy and democracy. We built safety nets to catch Americans who fell downward through no fault of their own. We designed regulations to protect against the inevitable excesses of free-market greed. We taxed the rich and invested in public goods - public schools, public universities, public transportation, public parks, public health - that made us all better off.

In short, we rejected the notion that each of us is on his or her own in a competitive contest for survival.

But make no mistake: If one of the current crop of Republican hopefuls becomes president, and if regressive Republicans take over the House or Senate, or both, Social Darwinism is back.

[ALOCHONA] Interesting video on 9/11

Interesting video on 9/11

For over a decade, no issue has focused public attention more than terrorism and the war on terror. Yet most people still find the 9/11 attacks inexplicable and believe George W. Bush's assertion that, "We did nothing to provoke that terrorist attack." WHY 9/11?, a new video narrated by Daniel A. McGowan, Professor Emeritus of Hobart and William Smith Colleges, challenges this assertion and delves deeper into the origin of those attacks.

Pakistan deserves to be fragmented.  If Islam alone could glue different cultures, there would not be so many countries in the Arab land.

Pakistan is going through worst crisis

Asif Haroon Raja

After the 1971 debacle, Pakistan is once again going through worst crisis. In some ways the problems confronted by Pakistan today are much worst than what it were in 1971. It is faced with potent threats from its western and eastern borders and is also facing internal threat posed by TTP and its affiliates in the northwest and BLA-BRF-BLF in the southwest. These terrorist groups were created by foreign agencies and are continuously being funded, trained and equipped to destabilize Pakistan . The US and NATO that were till recent pretending to be allies of Pakistan have removed their masks of friendship and are showing clear signs of hostility. They are closely knitted with Pakistan 's arch rival India that has not reconciled with the existence of Pakistan and never misses any opportunity to harm Pakistan .

The whole country is engulfed in flames of terrorism. Large numbers of security forces are embroiled in senseless war on terror. More than 35000 civilians and military men have been killed in this war by faceless terrorists. War on terror imposed upon Pakistan by USA with its vested interests has bruised the social fabric of Pakistan and impoverished its economy to an extent that it has reached the stage of a failing state. Never before Pakistan had become so cash strapped and dependant upon foreign aid. Our external debt has crossed $60 billion mark, the servicing of which comes to $3.5 billion annually. All economic indictors are in negative and our state-owned enterprises are almost bankrupt. Our expenses far outweigh our earnings and excess spending comes to Rupees one trillion. Our sovereignty is getting eroded mainly due to debt burden, heavy dependence on American aid and the US controlled IMF and World Bank, and debased policy of appeasement of our rulers.

On the political front, the country is ruled by a coterie of three political parties with dubious past that have bartered away the sovereignty, dignity and honor of this proud nation of 170 million in return for illusive American aid and to remain in power. Political parties are polarized and antagonism of the 1990s has returned. Both PML-N and PTI are demanding mid term elections, while the PPP is in no mood and want to complete its tenure which expires in February 2013. It is keenly looking forward to Senate elections in March 2012 in which it is sure to bag maximum seats. PTI under Imran Khan has emerged with a big bang as a third force and has jolted the two main stream parties but still is not in a position to form a government at its own. PPP is pleased with Imran's growing popularity in Punjab , since it is at the cost of its main rival PML-N. Several well-known politicians from other parties have joined PTI, which is causing heartburns to the old guards. Antagonism between PTI and MQM is fast declining and unlike its past practice of strongly opposing ingress by any political party in its exclusive domain of Karachi , the MQM has welcomed Imran to hold his rally at Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi on 25 December. The urban youth in particular is looking towards Imran since he has no corruption scandal, is honest and upright and has persistently castigated wrong policies and corrupt practices of ruling class.

PML-Q that had formed a government in 2002 stands fractured with large numbers of its elected MPAs in Punjab tilting towards mother party PML-N. The latter has excellent lieutenants but the top leader is muddle headed and doesn't know when to become soft and when to take a firm stand. His decisions are mostly ill-timed, but he has a standing in Punjab . Finding themselves getting sidelined, religious parties are seriously contemplating to revive MMA. Politicians in opposition as well as media have been pressing Gen Kayani to take over and save the country from sinking, but he has rebuffed all such advances since he knows that all four military rulers were first enticed, eulogized and then condemned. Taking into account the heat generated by political parties, it appears that 2012 will be election year. Considering the divide in vote bank, no single party will be able to garner two-thirds majority; hence it will be a weak coalition government.

The people that are the real assets of the country have been marginalized by a small but highly affluent elite class which is exceptionally greedy, callous and self serving. Its life style outmatches even the elite class of the developed world and it lives in its own world of pleasure oblivious of the pains and miseries of the deprived class. Their insensitivity and callousness and servility to their foreign masters have created an unbridgeable gulf between them and the people. Sky rocketing prices, unemployment, lack of justice and insecurity have disillusioned the dispossessed groaning under the weight of poverty. Since the police are thoroughly corrupt and hand-in-glove with the criminal elements, law and order has almost broken down. Corruption has been institutionalized by the corrupt rulers and system of accountability has almost been done away with under the plea of national reconciliation.

PPP leaders involved in massive corruption have a long history of denials. They managed to prevent law courts from delivering verdicts for 11 years (1998-2008) through delaying tactics and then washed their sins in the dry cleaning machine of infamous NRO. The MQM also got thousands of their convicted activists and leaders involved in heinous crimes absolved. Once they cleansed themselves they cried out that they had been victimized for long and deserved to rule and to loot to their heart's desire. They argued that if they were guilty they should have been convicted. Notwithstanding the inherent flaws in our investigative and judicial systems, the fact of the matter is that NAB had almost reached the final stage of convicting the main accused involved in money laundering worth $1.7 billion when US-UK authored NRO came to their rescue and leader of the band acquired immunity from conviction.

The current leaders have broken all records of corruption, incompetence, nepotism and cronyism. Militant wing of MQM resorted to massive target killings in Karachi for almost three years merely to retain its monopoly over the port city. The other two coalition partners in Sindh Ministry, PPP and ANP, also hired target killers to give a tit-for-tat response. Supreme Court and Gen Kayani had to intervene to stop the gory practice of bloodshed. Turbulent geo-political environment surrounding Pakistan causes no anxiety to the rulers. They feel no shame when mirror is shown to them about their corrupt practices, or when they defy the higher courts or violate rule of law. One reason of their indifference is that they have no stakes in Pakistan . They have amassed enough ill-gotten wealth by sucking the blood of the poor to settle abroad and live a lord's life.

Having reduced the country to a carcass and loaded it with mountain of complicated problems, their flight time is approaching nearer, particularly when the media is exposing their wrongdoings, higher judiciary is getting more and more assertive, public anger is growing and talk of bloody revolution is often heard. The Supreme Court has announced its decision on review petition of the government on NRO and is also seized with the case of memogate. Judicial commission is close to finding the truth about Abbottabad assault. There seems to be a connection between 2 May and memo delivered to Admiral Mullen on 10 May. The haze is fast clearing and it looks that the real culprits will get exposed soon and taken to task.

It was amidst so many high profile events taking place simultaneously that news of President Zardari falling sick and proceeding to Dubai for treatment were heard. It gave rise to tens of rumors and speculations. The juiciest was that he had run away and would not return. American newspaper also commented that in all probability he would tender his resignation since the pressure was too much for him to bear. It may be recalled that when Musharraf released Zardari from jail in 2005 as part of his secret wheeling and dealing for a political reconciliation with the PPP, he was a very sick man and had contracted several diseases during his prolonged captivity. Dozens of money laundering and corruption charges were pending against him. On one occasion he had tried to commit suicide. He joined his family in Dubai in bad condition. On suffering a near catastrophic heart attack, he was evacuated to New York hospital where he remained under treatment for nearly two years.

In August 2008, a little before his visit to Washington as elected President of Pakistan, Financial Times published his medical reports of New York hospital, which showed that he suffered from range of diseases like dementia, stress and depressive disorders, memory and psychic problems. Although most of his diseases would have vanished once he miraculously entered the President House and became the most powerful civilian president; however, hangover of diseases particularly heart problem remained and didn't get cured since he has two stunts fixed in his heart. With multiple pressures faced by him, particularly when Obama had along conversation with him on phone pressing him to undo the measures taken by the Army and ISI, and Gen Kayani not agreeing to do so, it was quite natural that his stress disorder disease got aggravated which in turn exerted pressure on his heart.

The reason why he preferred Dubai over Pakistan when the latter has much better heart expertise in AFIC was that he wanted to avoid American pressure and take rest for few weeks. In addition, he wanted to be at a safe place in the backdrop of Supreme Court's decision on NRO and memo investigations. He didn't want to appear in front of Abbottabad Judicial Commission. He activated his son Bilawal to run the business in his absence to prevent further flight of PPP leaders to other political parties. He can now wait and see and will return when the danger is over.

The US leadership has been constantly pushing Pakistan and has brought it to the brink of precipice. It kept up the do more mantra unhesitatingly since it was confident that no amount of admonishments and ridicule would evoke protests from the ruling regime which was in its tight grip. It was so sure because it knew that the NRO cleansed rulers whose wealth is stashed in foreign banks and their properties are also in western countries and against whom dozens of court cases are pending would not dare annoy or even irritate the US what to talk of rupturing diplomatic ties. The US wanted to extract all the benefits for itself and for its strategic partners and leave Pakistan high and dry. Despite despising Pakistan , it tolerated Pakistan and kept it engaged so as to extract the last drop of juice out of it. Ultimately it was the military and ISI which saw through the game and to their horror found that there was an unholy nexus between Washington and ruling regime and there was lot of truth in the contents of memo. The military has begun to resist the US challenge with full force, which has irked the US military. Gen Dempsey not only termed the Salala attack by NATO helicopters as unintentional, he has repeated the charges of his predecessor Admiral Mullen concerning existence of terrorist camps in Pakistan . He also favors 'Do more strategy'. A situation akin to Cambodia and Laos is being enacted.

The people are fed up of so-called democracy and are confused which system would alleviate their sufferings. The people nostalgically remember Quaid-e-Azam who had aspired to convert Pakistan into an ideal welfare state. They recall the huge sacrifices that were rendered in creating Pakistan and how unashamedly the mini-mind leaders who came after Jinnah instead of building the institutions and improving the living standard of the poor kept filling their own coffers. The people are grinding in extreme poverty, the national kitty is empty but the rich class is dirty rich. The people are expectantly looking towards the Army and judiciary to bailout the country from worst crisis of its turbulent history. They are saying that sham democracy run by detestable politicians have brought this country full of potential to this sorry pass. They want a strong military president like Ayub Khan to run presidential form of government with efficient and honest technocrats doing the legislative work to avert the worst crisis.
