[ALOCHONA] The Pakistan Army in 1971 East Pakistan Crisis

The Pakistan Army in 1971 East Pakistan Crisis

Major Agha H Amin (Retired), Pak Army

No less a person than Brigadier Tajammul Hussain Malik admitted that atrocities were committed in 1971.But then most occurred in Dacca (Major General Khadim Hussain Raja) , Chittagong and Khulna (south west).16 Division under Major General Nazar Hussain Shah by and large had the best record and this explains why Nazar Hussain Shahs life was saved by a Bengali .

This scribes father was the GSO 2 Operations with Major General Nazar Hussain Shah (the GSO 1 an outstanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Ghulam Dastagir had been left behind at Quetta as he was a Bengali) and narrates that by a coincidence General nazar , the Bengali Session Judge and the DC were all old boys of Aligarh University and had an excellent understanding and rapport.

My father who was his GSO 2 Operations and closely associated with the 16 Division operations from move from Quetta to East Bengal in a record time of 5 days describes Nazar as a fine officer and a great human being !Major General Nazar Hussain Shah was a genuine down to earth soldier , bulky by build but genuine at heart and full of humanity ! This went a long way in civilising conduct of 16 Division ! Ironically typical of Tikka Khan Nazar Hussain Shah was retired while Rahim khan guilty of being ruthless in the crackdown was elevated to be secretary defence !

Brigadier Nisar of 25 Cavalry who was praised by Indian historians as outstanding in delaying battle in Shakargarh as commander of changez Force was also sidelined because he was not close to Tikka Khan and company and did not possess Zias mastery of art of sycophancy and appeasement of seniors !

It was typical of Pakistan Army that Brigadier Rahimuddin who did not join his brigade in Chamb on pretext of martial law duty was promoted to general rank while Nisar who fought both the 1965 and 1971 wars exceedingly well sidelined ! In 1965 Nisar by his singular action at Gadgor had literally saved Pakistan ! But promotion in Pakistan Army had nothing to do with war performance or real soldiering ! Pathetic !

Interestingly Brigadier Irshaad heading the military intelligence in 1965 and guilty of Pakistan Armys greatest intelligence failure of 1965 i.e disregarding a genuine report that Indian Armoured division was in kashmir , dismissing it as a deception plan , was promoted to two and three star after the war .He played hell with Pakistans 1 Corps in 1971 War !

Major General Sarfaraz whose conduct as GOC was outstanding in 1965 War was not promoted because his ability was regarded as a threat by Ayub Khan ! Brigadier Qayyum Sher who launched one of the finest brigade size counter attack of 1965 war was also not promoted !

In words of Ayub Khans closest associate Altaf Gauhar Yahya Khan was promoted as army chief because he had hit the bottle hard and was regarded as politically harmless !Brigadier Tajammul Hussain Malik was praised as an outstanding commander by a person no less than the Indian opponent of his Major General lachman Singh .

A special commission was appointed by Indian Army to study Tajammuls brigade actions ! The tragedy is that Tikka Khan and Bhutto sidelined the best officers of 1971 ! Nazar Hussain shah was sidelined because he was not a Rajput (!) and Tajammul was sidelined because he was not a pathetic sycophant with no war record like Zia ul Haq !

Mr Z.A Bhutto by selecting a man with a pathetic personality and no war record as army chief paid the price with his head !

The tragedy is that Pakistan Army has not learnt its lesson and the illegitimate usurper musharraf has created a new potential East Pakistan in Balochistan and FATA !

Tragedy par excellence !

[ALOCHONA] Rights violation still rampant

Rights violation still rampant

Report expresses concern over custodial death, torture, mysterious disappearances

Incidents of extra-judicial killing and torture of innocent people by law enforcers are rampant in the country although Bangladesh has committed to the United Nations to stop such violation of human rights, a report says.

"Concern over continued disappearance and torture in custody, especially of young innocent victims, has been compounded by a new type of human rights violation in the form of police-instigated mob beating and 'mistaken identity'," said the report of Human Rights Forum on Universal Periodic Review (HRF-UPR) Bangladesh.

Withdrawal of thousands of graft cases on political consideration has seriously undermined the prospect of strengthening institutional capacity of the Anti-Corruption Commission to fight corruption, it added.

HRF-UPR, a forum of 17 local rights and development organisations, at a press conference yesterday published the report on the overall human rights conditions in the country between July 2009 and July 2011. The UPR system was introduced to review human rights condition of all the UN-member countries in 2007. Bangladesh accepted 40 recommendations on improving human rights conditions and made commitment during the universal periodic review in 2009.

There has been some progress made, but many of the commitments Bangladesh made are yet to be fulfilled, Sultana Kamal, executive director of Ain O Salish Kendra, told the press conference at Dhaka Reporter's Unity.

Iftekharuzzaman, executive director of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), said the recent constructional amendment denying the indigenous identity of the hills people, was tantamount to human rights violation. There has been some progress in strengthening democratic institutions but the proposed Anti-Corruption Commission law, if passed, will curb the commission's power, he added.

Mr. Mohiuddin Anwar

Watch what BNP's cultural elite Mr. Monwar Hussain Dipjol is
preaching. Is this conforms to your standard of Islam ?

Dipjol - Poot koira dimu FDC Dhaliwood:

This seems to be an unislamic dance performed openly
by the Madam's followers.

Also, perhaps you know that Bellydance is a traditional
Middle Eastern dance ( Arabian Peninsula) that survived through
history under Turkish Khilafat and other muslim rulers ...
Watch:
Turkish Belly Dance ,Tanyeli in white:

Arabic Super hits Belly Dance (رقص شرقي عربي):

FYI, Belly dancing and Mujra is very much prevalent in Islamic Republic
of Pakistan  [Heeramodi, Lahore & various clubs in Karachi]

Mr. Manik,

Did you forget that Princess Lucky Khan's nude dance and was popular during Mujibi rule .
Mujib government allowed such unislamic dances openly.

What's happening in Bangladesh in  the name of secularism ?
In the past one Muslima  leader praised Ma Durga for good crop , instead of praisding Allah Raqbbul Alamin.
Wasn't that shirk(PARTING SOMEONE WITH MOHAN ALLAH) ?
Now that religious Affaires Minister sayuing controvertial comment about our beloved Prophet ?
Ball dance(Men women dancing together) was allowed in a  religious program conducted by government run Islamic Foundation for our Imams.
Attendee Imams protested without any action by the government
No question asked to Foundation DG for this unislamic program by Islamic Foundation
Aren't they crossing the line ?

I regret my earlier comment about Amini. I have no authority to call any one kafir. However I stand with rest of my opinion. Amini is not alem for sure. He is a misguided soul who do not follow the path of Allah or his Rasul. Allah is for the mankind and certainly not just for Muslims.

Again I am extremely sorry for my worst choice of word, I hope Allah will forgive my for this unintentional choice of word.

Thanks

Re: [mukto-mona] Fwd: [ALOCHONA] Amendments to controversial Enemy Act rejected

1. India has Enemy Properties Act! I did not know about it until recently. Indian one was created in 1968 while Pakistani one had already been there in various forms. Bangladesh has inherited the Pakistani one but has renamed it more than once to adapt to the evolving circumstances.
2. If I depend on the little information I have about how it has been implemented in India, I will say that properties left behind by Indian citizens have been placed under the custody of a trustee. Looking at the levels of corruption in India, I will not be surprised if allocation of all the abandoned properties have not been done honestly. I am also not sure if any of abandoned properties have been misappropriated by the powerful people in the society. But we are now sure that most of the abandoned properties in Bangladesh are now under the possession of the powerful members of the two major political parties viz. AL and BNP (see the report by Dr. Barkat of DU.)
3. The name "enemy property" is pretty laughable. How can property of some one who ran for life (99.99% or more of those who left) be called enemy property? He did not leave his land of birth to join the army of her enemy to engage in a war against his country of birth. Most of them left penniless to engage in a far greater struggle for existence and to rot in a refugee camp in a hopelessness condition. Although there have been continual tensions over various issues, officially India and Pakistan were each other's enemy only for two brief periods---one in 1965 and the other one in 1971. Enemity between two states--repeat, between two states--in no way means enemity between the citizens of the two enemy country countries. But those who control the state machinery will never let us know about this fact.
4. Since 1947 states have failed to protect the lives and properties of their own citizens. People became homeless and tried to find a new home somewhere else although not good successes all the time. People did not leave their country because they hated their country. They did not leave their country because they wanted to wage a war against their country. They left their country because the shameless state machinery did not protect or did not want to protect them. Sometimes a state manufactured communal riots to force a section of its people leave the country. Pakistan was pretty good at it. Even BNP has done it in 2001 after winning the election as a retaliatory measure.
5. How the properties of a person who left his country in 1947 could come under the purview of an enemy properties act that came into being lot later? Officially there was no enemity between the two countries in 1947! But there are practical reasons that warrant intensive review of such cases. 61 years have seen more than two generations. Things have now become extremely complicated. Practically it will become almost impossible to sort out these issue. You settle one issue by amendments, other claims will prop up. It can be a never ending process.
6. It is immaterial for the sufferers in Bangladesh what India does. Proper justice needs to be done to the hindus still living in Bangladesh who have lost their legitimate rights to their forefathers' properties.

A correction to Dr. Roy's comment below; ordinary Hindus did not leave Pakistan/Bangladesh for India for 'whatever reasons'. They left because of systematic hatred and discrimination in their homeland of centuries by religious majority controlled governments, not just by ordinary criminals. All the Muslims migration from India happened during the turbulent break up of the subcontinent in and around 1947. Most of the Hindu migration from Pakistan and Bangladesh happened during pretty normal times - ignore the 1971 migration which was mostly reversed shortly after the independence of Bangladesh on December 16, 1971.

There is a big difference between what Pakistani-King is asking and what Hindus in Bangladesh are asking. Bangladesh is not returning the properties of Hindu Kings and Jamindars. This is an attempt to return properties taken from ordinary folks who left for India for whatever reasons. I am skeptical about its success. Only time will tell. The difference between these two claims is huge, and we should analyze it with proper context. Otherwise it will be construed as toying with anti-Indian sentiment.

[ALOCHONA] recession predicted in 2005

Look at the brilliant article...written in 2005!!!!!

The Future of the World Economy

Mises Daily: Friday, April 29, 2005 by

Last year, the world economy grew by 5%[1], its fastest rate for many years, led by the extraordinary boom in China and very high growth in most other third world countries too.
America and Japan also had fairly strong growth, although Western Europe had a more dismal performance. Can the good times last? Or is the world economy heading for a crisis?

[ALOCHONA] complex issue

Opinion
America, Israel and Iran - no way out
If Obama can't stand up to Iran and Israel, he will set the US on a direct path to another Middle East war.
 Last Modified: 12 Dec 2011 14:31

US Secretary of Defence Leon Panetta made some perhaps unintentionally interesting remarks regarding US policy toward Iran earlier this month, and it is fair to suppose that the venue in which he made them was not accidental.
Each year, the Brookings Institution, a prominent US think-tank, hosts the Saban Forum, a gathering of US and Israeli officials, along with the usual retinue of journalists, academics and observers, to discuss issues of common interest and concern. This year's theme was "Strategic Challenges in the New Middle East", and participants sought to focus thought and discussion, in the Saban Centre's words, "... on historic shifts... and their implication for US-Israeli security and interests in the Middle East region".

[ALOCHONA] Muslims’ Contributions to Civilization

Muslims' Contributions to Civilization

Dr. Sultan Ahmad, USA

We, as Muslims, are not aware of the contributions of the Muslims to
civilization. This is not only unfortunate, but also a shame for us.
We should, of course will feel proud when we will know the
contributions of the Muslim scientists.

Surgery

Many modern surgical instruments are of exactly the same design as
those devised in the 10th century by a Muslim surgeon called
al-Zahrawi (936 – 1013 AD). He was an Andalusian who is considered
Islam's greatest surgeon and one of the fathers of modern surgery.

His scalpels, bone saws, forceps, fine scissors for eye surgery and
many of the 200 instruments he devised are recognizable to a modern
surgeon. It was he who discovered that catgut used for internal
stitches dissolves away naturally (a discovery he made when his monkey
ate his lute strings) and that it can be also used to make medicine
capsules. In the 13th century, another Muslim named Ibn Nafis
described the circulation of the blood, 300 years before William
Harvey discovered it. Muslim doctors also invented anesthetics of
opium and alcohol mixtures and developed hollow needless to suck
cataracts from eyes in a technique still used today.

Parachute and Flying Machine

A thousand years before the Wright brothers a Muslim poet, astronomer,
musician and engineer named Abbas Ibn Firnas (810 – 887 AD)made
several attempts to construct a flying machine. A berber born in
Izn-Rand Onda, Al-Andalus (Ronda, Spain) and lived in the Emirate of
Cordova. He was an inventor, engineer, aviator, physician, Arabic poet
and Andalusian musician.

In 852 AD, he jumped from the minaret of the Grand Mosque in Cordova
using a loose cloak stiffened with wooden struts. He hoped to glide
like a bird. He could not. But the cloak should his fall, creating
what is thought to be the first Parachute, and leaving him with only
minor injuries. In 875, aged 70, having perfected a machine of silk
and eagles' feathers he tried again, jumping from a mountain. He flew
to a significant height and stayed aloft for tem minutes but crashed
on landing – concluding correctly that it was because he had not given
his device a tail so it would stall on landing. Baghdad international
airport and a crater on the Moon are named after him.

Optics

The ancient Greeks thought our eyes emitted rays, like a las3er, which
enabled us to see. The first person to realize that light enters the
eyes, rather than leaving it, was the 10th century mathematician,
astronomer and physicist Ibn al-Haitham (Alhazen, 965 – 1041 AD) born
in Circa 965, in Basra, Iraq and lived mainly in Cairo, Egypt. He is
regarded as the "father of modern optics).

He invent)ed the first pin-hole camera after noticing the way light
came through a hole in windows of shutters. The smaller the hole, the
better the picture, he worked out, and set up the first Camera Obscura
(from the Arab word qamara of a dark or private room). He is also
credited with being the first man to shift Physics from a
philosophical activity to an experimental one. John Draper expresses
his amazement that Ibn Al-Haythem wroye about these subjects in the
11th century and for several centuries Ibn Al-Haythams's work on
optics was the main source of study in Europe.

Civil Engineering

Al-Jazari invented a variety of machines for raising water in 1206, as
well as water mills and water wheels with cams on their axie used to
operate automata in the late 12th century. Cordova had the first
facilities and waste containers for litter collection. The first
kerosene lamp was invented by Muhammad ibn Zakaria Razi (865 – 925 AD)
in the 9th century. He was born in Ragha, Persia. Shifted his interest
from music to alchemy and when his experimentation caused him an
eye-disease, he shifted his interest to medicine.

Muslim engineers invented a variety of surveying instruments for
accurate leveling, including a wooden board with a plumb line and two
hooks, an equilateral triangle with a plumb line and two hooks and a
<<reed level>>. They also invented a rotating alidade used for
accurate alignment, and a surveying astrolabe used for alignment,
measuring angles, triangulation, finding the width of a river, and the
distance between two points separated by an impassable obstruction.
The streets of Baghdad were the first to be paved with tar from the
8th century AD. The first ventilators were invented in Islamic Egypt
and were widely used in many houses throughout Cairo during the middle
ages.

Chemistry

Distillation, the means of separating liquids through differences in
their boiling points, was invented around the year 800 by Islam's
foremost scientist, Jabir ibn Hayyan (721 – 815 AD), who transformed
alchemy into chemistry, inventing many of the basic processes and
apparatus still used today – liquefaction, crystallization,
distillation, purification, oxidization, evaporation and filtration.
As well as discovering sulphuric and nitric acid, he invented the
alembic still, giving the world intense rose water and other perfumes
and alcoholic spirits (although drinking them is haram, or forbidden,
in Islam. Ibn Hayyamn emphasized systematic experimentation and was
the founder of modern chemistry.

Mechanics

The crank-shaft is a device which translates rotary into linear motion
and is central to much of the machinery in the modern world, not least
the internal combustion engine. One of the most important mechanical
inventions in the history of humankind was created by an ingenious
Muslim engineer called al-Jazari (1136 – 1206) to raise water for
irrigation. He was born in Al-Jaziraothe, northern Mesopotamia. In his
book, book of knowledge of ingenious Mechanical devices, he described
fifty mechanical devices along with instructions on how to construct
them.

Numbering System

The system of numbering is use all around the world is probably Indian
in origin but the style of the numerals is Arabic and first appears in
print in the work of the Muslim Mathematician al-Khwarizmi and
al-Kindi (801 – 873 AD) around 825. He was born in Kufa. He was a
philosopher,, mathematician, physicist, astronomer, physician,
geographer and even an expert in Music. It is surprising that he made
original contributions to all of these fields.

Algebra was named after al- Khwarizmi's book, Al-Jabar wa-al-Muabilah,
much of whose contents are still in use. The work of Muslim math
scholars was imported into Europe 300 years later by the Italian
mathematician Fibonacci. Algorithms and much of the theory of
trigonometry came from the Muslim world. And Al-Kindi's discovery of
frequency analysis rendered all the codes of the ancient world soluble
and created the basis of modern cryptology.

Mathematics

Among the achievements of Muslim mathematicians include the
development of Algebra and algorithms by Muhammad ibn Musa
Al-Khwarizmi, 9780 – 950 AD) the invention of spherical trigonometry,
the addition of the decimal point notation to the Arabic numerals, the
invention of the trigonometric functions besides sine, al-Kindi's
introduction of cryptanalysis and frequency analysis., al-Karaji's
introduction of algebraic calculus and proof by mathematical
induction, the development of analytic geometry and the earliest
general formula for infinitesimal and integral calculus by Ibn
al-Haytham, the beginning of algebraic geometry by Omar Khayyam, the
first reputations of Euclidean geometry and the parallel postulate by
Nasir al-Din al-Tusi, the first first attempt at a non-Euclidean
geometry by Sadar al-Din, the development of symbolic algebra by Abu
al-Hasan ibn al-Qalasadi, and numerous other advances in algebra,
arithmetic, Calculus, cryptography, geometry, number theory and
trigonometry.

Medicine

Abu al-Qasim (Abulcasis) help lay the foundation for modern surgery,
with his Kitab al-Tasrif, in which he invented numerous surgical
instruments, including the first instruments unique to women, as well
as the surgical uses of catgut and forceps, the ligature, surgical
needle, scalpel, curette, retractor, surgical spoon, sound, surgical
hook, rod, and specula, and bone saw. Ibn Haytham (Alhacen) made
important advances in eye surgery, as he correctly explained the
process of sight and visual perception for the first time in his book
of optics. Ibn Sina (Avicena) (980 – 1037 AD) was born in Afsana, near
Bukhara. For a thousand years he retained his original renown as one
of the greatest thinkers and medical scholars in history.

He helped lay the foundations of modern medicine, with the Canon of
medicine which was responsible for the discovery of contagious
disease, introduction of quarantine to limit their spread,
introduction of experimental medicine, evidence-based medicines,
clinical trials, randomized controlled trials, efficacy tests, and
clinical pharmacology, the first descriptions on bacterial and viral
organisms, distinction of mediastinitis from pleurisy, contagious
nature of tuberculosis, distribution of disease by water and soil,
skin troubles, sexually transmitted diseases, perversions, nervous
ailments, use of ice to treat fevers, and separation of medicine from
pharmacology. Ibn al-Nafis laid the foundations of circulatory
physiology, as he was the first to describe the pulmonary and coronary
circulation.

Time Keeping Devices

In the 10th century, al-Sufi (908 – 986 AD)described over1,000
different uses of an astrolabe, including timekeeping, particularly
for the times of Salah (prayers) and Ramadhan. Geared mechanical
astrolabe featured a calendar computer and gear-wheels, and was
invented by Abu Bakr of Ispahan in 1235.Al-Jazari invented monumental
water powers astronomical clocks which displayed moving models of the
sun, moon, and stars. His largest astronomical clock displayed the
zodiac and the solar and lunar orbits. Another innovative feature of
the clock was a pointer which travelled across the top of a gateway
and caused automatic doors to open every hour. The first geared clock
was invented by the 11th century Arab engineer Ibn Khalf al-Muradi in
Islamic Iberia. It was a water clock that employed both segmental and
epicyclic gearing. Other monumental water clocks constructed by Muslim
engineers also employed complex gear trains and arrays of automata.

Architecture

The great mosque of Xi'an china was completed circa 744, and the Great
Mosque of samara in Iraq was completed in 847. The Great Mosque of
samara combined the hypostyle architecture of rows and columns
supporting a flat base above which a huge spiraling minaret was
constructed. The Spanish Muslims began construction of the Grand
Mosque at cordoba in 785 marking the beginning of Islamic architecture
in Spain and Northern Africa. The mosque is noted for its striking
interior arches. Moorish architecture reached its peak with the
construction of the Alhambra, the magnificent palace/fortress of
Granada, with its open and breezy interior spaces adorned in red,
blue, and gold. The walls are decorated with stylized foliage motifs.
Arabic inscriptions and arabesque design work. With walls covered in
glazed tiles.

Many buildings and portions of buildings worldwide have been inspired
by the Alhambra: there is a Moorish revival house in Stillwater, MN
which was created and named after the Alhambara; also, the main
portion of the Irvine Spectrum center in Irvine. CA is a postmodern
version of the court of the Lions.

Institutions

A number of important educational and scientific institutions
previously unknown in the ancient world have their origins in the
early Islamic world, with the most notable examples being: the public
and psychiatric hospitals, the public library and lending library, the
academic degree granting university, and the astronomical observatory
as a research institute. The Guinness book of World Records recognizes
the University of Al Karaouine in Fez, Morocco as the oldest
degree-granting in the world with its founding in 859 CE byFatima
al-Fihri. Al-Azhar University, founded in Cairo, Egypt in the 975 CE.,
offered a variety of academic degrees, including postgraduate degrees,
and is often considered the first full-pledged university. The origin
of the doctorate also dates back to the ijazat attadris via wa
'l-ifttd (license to teach and issue legal opinions) in the medieval
Madrashas which taught Islamic law.

[ALOCHONA] Three Indian blunders in the 1971 war

Three Indian blunders in the 1971 war

Pakistan's Lieutenant General A A K Niazi, left, greets Lieutenant General Jagjit Singh Aurora, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command

Pakistan army officers got away without being tried for genocide in 1971: Colonel Anil Athale (retd) identifies India's three blunders in that war.

The 1971 Indo-Pak war was one of those rarest of rare occasions in our history when India took the military initiative.

Politically, the war began in April 1971 when Pakistan pushed nearly nine million refugees into India through a campaign of rape, murder and terror that statistically comes close to Hitler's genocide of Jews in the Second World War, in scale and brutality.

Military force remained the only option when it became clear that the rest of the world had decided to ignore this crime. India bided its time till the winter snows closed the Himalayan passes, rendering Chinese intervention difficult.

Around November 26, 1971, India began to nibble at East Pakistani territory. Pakistan, instead of cutting its losses and calling quits, in a desperate gamble escalated the conflict by launching air/ground attacks in the West on December 3, 1971. By escalation, it hoped to rope in China and the US in widening the conflict and hoped for a UN intervention a la Kashmir.

The Indian Air Force achieved remarkable success when within the first 48 hours it achieved complete air superiority in the Eastern theatre of war. This enabled the advancing army columns to move without any fear of detection even in daytime.

With supply from the air assured, the army did not have to be dependent on opening of roads, which were heavily defended by the Pakistanis. The five division-strong Indian forces advanced from three directions and secured choke points well in the rear.

The bypassed Pak forces had no option but to up stick and attack the Indian troops in order to go back to Dhaka. This was a classic case of 'offensive strategy' and defensive tactics devised by the indomitable General J F R Jacob.

These tactics were reminiscent of the Israeli tactics of 1967 war when they bypassed the Egyptian forces in front and seized the passes in the rear (the Mitla and Giddi passes in the Sinai mountains).

The Indian Army in Bangladesh similarly bypassed the Pakistani forces on the border and headed for the river ferries/crossings/bridges in the rear. This war strategy took advantage of the fact of modern warfare that tactically 'defence' is always stronger than offence.

The Eastern prong led by Lieutenant General Sagat Singh found a chance opening and exploited it. In 24 hours, 12 small helicopters of the air force ferried brigade strength across a mile wide Meghan river.

The Pakistani defenders were totally taken aback and Indian troops reached Dhaka by December 13-14. The navy had blockaded the sea and All India Radio constantly drummed into the Pak soldiers that they had no choice but to surrender.

Surrender by the 93,000 strong garrison was only a matter of time.

It is interesting to note that the Indian troops had less than 1:2 superiority and were on the offensive. Normally that means more casualties. But it is tribute to Indian general-ship that the Indian loss was 2,000 men as against that of Pak at 6,000.

Credit for this goes to the dash and efficiency of the three services. The Bangladesh attack has been compared by many to the famous Blitzkrieg of the Germans. It must be never forgotten that the military success was a joint Indo-Bangladeshi effort.

Without the whole-hearted support from the Bangladeshis, this war could have never been won. The people of Bangladesh paid a very heavy price for their freedom.
