Re: [mukto-mona] Fwd: [Dahuk]: The Call of Islam: Peace & Moderation, Not Intolerance and Extremism

Muslims believe in the Koran and in one Allah who sent Muhammed to the earth. Like all other religious groups Muslims are also divided into several groups. Every group thinks that it is right and the others are wrong. The spirit should be that there can be many routes to reach the goal (compare with "joto  maut toto
path" said to be a teaching by Ramkrishnsa Paramhsnsa Dev.) I feel sorry for the Ahmadiyas. I had a friend in IBA. I could feel his pain and sense of loneliness. There is a well known adage in Bangladesh which goes like this: I agree to your judgment, but the palm tree is mine. Every one should rise above the "I am right" attitude. Muslims are excommunicating Muslims and Muslims are killing Muslims.

The Call of Islam: Peace &
Moderation, Not Intolerance and
Extremism

By: Sadullah Khan
IslamiCity* -

Islam is salaam (peace) and tasleem(submission to the Divine). In Islam Peace is the standard, it is the principle, and each person of faith has the moral obligation to maintain peace, without compromising on justice and truth. Islam invites to thesubul as-salaam(pathway of peace); peace of mind, peace of conscience, peace in the family and society, peace with one's Creator and His creation. One of the attributes of the Divine is As-Salaam (The Source of Peace) and Muslim greeting universally, upon meeting and departing, is as-salamu 'alaykum or "peace be unto you". The final and ultimate reward for human endeavor is Paradise, referred to in the Qur'an as Dar-us-Salaam (Abode of Peace)

The Believers were intended to be an ummah (community) that serves as a standard/model for others; what the Qur'an describes ."...And we have made you (ummatan wasata) a median community / a people of moderation/ a balanced medium in order that you may be a testimony or model for humanity." [Qur'an 2:143] It is the absence of the balance provided by wasatiyyah (moderation) that extremism creeps in. Wasatiyyah is an antidote to ...ghuluww (excessiveness), tanattu' (harshness), tashaddud (severity), tatarruf (extremism) ... in all its forms.

Intolerance Whence?

How is it then that some Muslims are so intolerant of other faiths, involved in atrocious and heinous acts of violence and senseless killing? Are they oblivious to the historic example of how the Prophet engaged those of different Faiths? It seems that some among Muslims seem to have lost sound understanding of the teachings of our Faith and are substituting the sublime message of Islam by a discourse of anger and the rhetoric of rage. There is no command or teaching in Islam that can be referenced as the direct reason behind an extreme act, and killing. Those who are planning and orchestrating any senseless killings are the worst representatives of their religions and enemies of their communities. Those who are perpetrators acts of wanton violence in the name of Islam are doing a most grievous disservice to Islam. Others take pride in being Muslims however un-Muslim their stance may be. Then there are those who cheer acts of violence because they too have degenerated into a hateful people.

Zealots are a plague upon religion.

Extremists, whether reactionary or radical are a bane to religion. Reactionary extremists do not want any pluralism; they view the world in black and white, good and evil terms. They are good and anyone who opposes them is evil. From among the Muslims these are people who 'excommunicate' any Muslim who fail to share their interpretations of the Qur'an and their understanding of the faith. They use takfir (denouncing a Muslim as an unbeliever) and character assassination as a tool for marginalizing any criticism directed at them.

Radical extremists differ only in that they will use violence to further their cause and that the end justifies the means. They see any act as acceptable if it will further their 'cause.' This is blatantly anti-Islamic. In Islam the means must reflect its noble ends. Any means that does not embody the core truths and ethics of Islam is not from Islam and thus denounced as aberration. Islam is not a secret society of conspirators who no one knows what they are planning. Islam declares openly its aims and objectives and these are recognized by good people everywhere as pure and congruent with their own wisdom and traditions. Islam never allows a Muslim to kill the innocent and the helpless

Labeling something Islamic does not make it justifiable.

Realize, that just because you are religious does not mean that you are right. Desiring to implement Islamic values is always noble, but having a meaningful and effective strategy is indeed most significant. Forcing other is never an acceptable resort and certainly not the first resort; especially since our deen/way of life commands us not to use compulsion as a tool. Just because something needs to be done does not mean that anything that is done is okay; and just because something is done in religious fervor does not in any way prove that it is Islamically correct.

According to the Qur'an [5:32]; Muslims have inherited the command from that prescribed to the Children of Israel "whoever takes a single life without justification is as if he has killed the entire humanity." Furthermore we are reminded, If Allah had not repelled some people through others, monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques; all in which Allah's name is much celebrated, would have been destroyed. Allah will certainly help those who help His cause and surely, Allah is All-Powerful, All-Mighty' [Qur'an, 22:40]

If we do not abide by these principles established in the Qur'an, then we are undermining the very spirit of our Deen. We must heed the Qur'anic warning against extremism in religion. ... do not be extreme in your religion [Qur'an 4:171] The Prophet further warned, My intercession will not be availed two categories of my community; an oppressive/unjust ruler and a rebellious extremist [Tibrani] I warn you regarding extremism, because communities before you were destroyed due to extremism [Nisa'i]

Injustice of the self-righteous

Some deviant people/groups are committing acts in the name of Islam which are contrary to the fundamental of our faith, while not enough seem courageous enough to openly stand up to these bullies who are denigrating the name and image of Islam.

Remember the words of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh):"A Muslim (one who proclaims faith) is that person from whose hands and tongue other Muslims are safe; A Mu'min (one who manifests faith) is that person in whom humanity find safety and security regarding their lives, property and honor." [Baihaqi] The Prophet (pbuh) further advised ...Allah is kind and loves kindness in every matter, and kindness has been granted capacity which violence could never attain. [Sahih Muslim]

May Allah protect the innocent from the injustices of the self-righteous.

ALLAH'S Beautiful Name: AL-MUBAYYIN - The One Who Makes His Signs Clear

In this way Allah makes His Signs clear to you , so that hopefully you will use your intellect.
( Surat al-Baqara, 2:242)

Given that Allah has explained, through His Messengers and His revelation why we were created, what we have to accomplish, and what we will go through after death, we cannot claim ignorance of these facts. If He had not done so, we would exist in a state of helplessness, feebleness, and fear. But Allah, Who is compassionate and merciful toward His servants, answers all of our questions through His revelations. In this way, He brings people to life. Indeed, the calls, warnings, recommendations, and prohibitions revealed by Him, as well as the issues to which He draws people's attention, are for our salvation and will enable us to give a joyful account in Allah's presence on the Day of Judgment.

Almighty Allah, Who doesn't want any injustice for His servants, gives a detailed account of how they can avoid eternal punishment and all they need to know to serve Him. In addition, He gives them examples of earlier peoples so that they will not repeat their ancestors' mistakes, and tells them about the Prophets so that they can find the right path. Indeed, people could never learn about such events and conversations on their own. For instance, no one witnessed Prophet Musa's (as) conversation with Allah in the valley of Tuwa , and there is no record of it. But Allah lets us know some details of this conversation. Thus, His words to Prophet Musa (as), even though they were spoken before no one else and were uttered centuries ago, are conveyed to everyone word by word.

You were not on the western side when We gave Musa the command. You were not a witness. Yet We produced further generations and ages passed. Nor did you live among the people of Madyan and recite Our Signs to them, yet We have sent you news of them. Nor were you on the side of the Mount when We called, yet it is a mercy from your Lord so that you can warn a people to whom no warner came before, so that hopefully they will pay heed. ( Surat al-Qasas, 28:44-46)

In addition, no other book informs people about the life of the Hereafter. The Qur'an informs us that there is a life after death and that this worldly life is only a preparation for the Hereafter. In the absence of such knowledge, people would have to be content with the information relating to this world and would have no idea about the life after death. These are only a few issues that Allah explains to His servants. Through the Qur'an, our Lord provides people with everything that they need to know. One verse reads:

There is instruction in their stories for people of intelligence. This is not a narration that has been invented, but a confirmation of all that came before, a clarification of everything, a guidance and a mercy for people who believe. (Surah Yusuf, 12:111)

We have no knowledge other than what is revealed to us by our Lord.

Eating collectively from a single plate – Shaykh Ibn al-'Uthaymeen
Al-Wahshiyyi ibn Harb radiallaahu 'anhu related that some of the Companions of Allaah's Messenger sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam said:
O Messenger of Allaah! We eat, but do not become satisfied.
So he said to them: "Perhaps you eat separately?"
So they replied: Yes.
So he said: "Eat your food collectively, mention the Name of Allaah upon it, then there will be blessings for you in it."[1]
Shaykh Ibn al-'Uthaymeen said:
"This indicates that it is essential to eat collectively from a single plate. So if there are five or ten people, they should eat collectively from a single dish, depending upon the situation. Indeed, doing so is a cause for barakah (blessings) to descend, whilst eating separately is a cause for barakah to depart."[2]
[1] Hasan: Related by Abu Daawood (no.3764). It was authenticated by al-Haafidh al-'lraaqee in his Takhreejul-lhyaa (214).
[2] Sharh Riyaadhus-Saaliheen (7/231) of Ibn al-'Uthaymeen.

Re: [mukto-mona] Relationship between Bangladesh and India must be based on mutual respect [HASINA SELLING BANGLADESH. STOP HER!]-

China treats Taiwan as an integral part of china. China has in it's possession about 10000 sq-miles of Indian land in addition to a part of J&K. Tibet is a well known land of dispute. There was a report that china has dispute with India over water sharing. China seems to be potentially a greater danger than Pakistan. Indian nuclear armament is more of a reaction to China's nuclear armament. China betrayed our aspiration for freedom. I think Bangladesh got Chinese recognition after assassination of Mujib. Deelder has already mentioned how Vietnam and Cambodia feel about China's policy       . China has already earned bad reputation for software piracy and unethical business practices. Even America cannot do any thing about it. China is now a superpower.

If Germany and France can work as partners (Germans attacked France plenty of times) to advance their countries, why can't India work as a "Partner" with Bangladesh. As I said, India has disfunctional relationship with ALL regional countries. So no one wins except defense contractors in western counties.

As Dr. Roy has already stated, it is the national interests that determine the so called "mutual respect" BS. Groups, countries are not much different from individual traits. If you know you can dominate your neighbor, you do it explicitly or implicitly. Pakistan's all weather friend China is the perfect example. Pakistanis visit Beijing with a beggar's bowl and you can easily guess what exactly happens within the four walls of Beijing palaces. The world is pretty much messed up since countries evolved. You are either a bully or bullied country. The only exception is the Scandinavian countries. But they too get bullied by Russians and Americans

Only remedy is to stop blaming Indians for our problems. We need to grow up. We created our countries and we need to make to work assuming India as a foreign non friendly country. The same goes with Burma. Yes, life is tough.

If Bangladesh or Pakistan were stronger, they would be playing exactly the same role.

Good point SD.

However India is not exactly a paradise for human rights and many other vital areas.

India does it's "Bully routine" with all neighboring countries. That is why it has such dysfunctional relationship with countries within the region.

It is India's best interest to treat BD with due dignity and respect.

Respect will result in good relationship and bullying resulted massive distrust between countries.

Respecting other countries is not only "Good policy" it very "Effective" policy as well.

I love your way of writing. It reminds me my structured school days of past.
What I do not like is the way you try to impose your fixed ideas and doctrines on others. How do you define your inter country mutual respect? Do US, EU and China have enough respect for our country when we are not even behaving like adults. We still beg for favor from these powerful countries. Should Somalia and Bangladesh get equal respects from the US? I think you know the answer.
Mutual respect should not be a demand, you need to earn it, brother!

There are times when India getting such contracts make sense. This is one of those cases. India has been requesting BD government to allow it to transport goods to eastern India. It seems this is part of that plan.

As far as India-phobia is concern, it does exist. Similarly Indians also have "Bangla-phobia". It is clearly seen in many of their policies and practices. As I said before these two relatively friendly countries have ONE major issues. Which is how to share water.

Rest can be solved within six months. However India seems forever unwilling to take progressive steps to make it happen. We had high hope with India many times (last time after BAL was elected and government was working with Tista water issue) and India burst our hopes most of those times.

So while we should not be denying the fact that, India-phobia exists. At the same time, we should point out it is failed Indian policies which causes most of such feelings. It is good to remind all of us that, all of India's neighbors share this "Phobia". You can talk to people from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan and you will get similar feedback.

As I said, once India realize it has to lead the region than bully the region, we can live harmoniously.

Shalom!

I have been scratching my head to find out what's wrong in the tender notice. I could not find anything unusual there. It seems like - India is building a container port in Narayongonj; nothing wrong there. They are seeking tender bids; nothing wrong there either. Then, why is it generating so much anxiety among some people? Then I realized - oh, yes – it must be the ghost of our past Pakistani mindset, the fear of India (India-phobia), still haunting many Bangladeshis.

Let me ask a question - who will build Padma Bridge? Must be built with funds from some foreign governments. Let say it is  Japanese or South Korean. There will be ads for tender bids in their own country to contract out works. It's like when USA does rebuilding works, it hires their own companies to do so. The question is - would that be as worrisome to these people as it is with this particular case? I don't think so; won't you agree? This is what I called India-phobia. It's still at work, especially, among BNP/Jamat supporters. This is why Bangladesh will never be a friendly neighbor of India, ever.

Let me know - where I am wrong here.
