I agree with you the post Zia BNP is no where near what Zia was to Bangladesh.
BNP has failed to developed as a profession ideology-centric party. It has been the default party for AL's ill-rule and dictatorships.
BNP has been the most incompetent, the most limited capacity, the most outdated party. One thing they were not was dictatorial and fascist and blatant anti-state interest.
On the contrary, AL was (during BAKSAL1-) and is (currently during BAKSAL-2) the most evil, anti-democratic, anti-freedom, terror-based, fascist and anti-Bangladesh interest party.

BNP had 10 long years to rule with full power of governance. Show us one good job they have done. NONE. They are a bit better than BAL in the sense that they don't occupy (due to their incapacity) their seats for ever and they don't kill general citizens like BAL does. That's all.
BNP has no army followers, as they miserably failed to protect Col. Faruks, etc., for their bravery and National Heroism. Nor could they do anything against the killings of BDR army officers in Peelkhana tragedy. They are after their own loots. Otherwise, why they never mentioned or continued the 19 point program of Ziaur Rahman. If BNP doesn't follow Zia, who will ??

১৯৭১ সালে একজন স্বার্থপর নেতা যখন পুরো জাতির আবেগ নিয়ে খেলছিলেন, ঠিক তখনই অপরিচিত একজন মেজর একজন প্রকৃত দেশপ্রেমিক দেশ ও জাতির স্বার্থে নিজের জীবনের চিন্তা না করে নিজ উদ্যোগে, নিজ হাতে লিখে স্বাধীনতার ঘোষণা পাঠ করেন এবং নিজেই বাংলাদেশের রাষ্ট্রপতি বলে ঘোষণা দিয়ে দেশ ও জাতিকে যুদ্ধে ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়ার আহ্বান জানান।
দেশের স্বার্থে জাতির প্রয়োজনে শহীদ রাষ্ট্রপতি জিয়াউর রহমান স্বাধীনতার ঘোষণায় বলেছিলন, আমি রাষ্ট্রপতি মেজর জিয়াউর রহমান। এটাই সত্যি আর এটা ছাড়া কোনো উপায়ও ছিল না।
কিন্তু জিয়াউর রহমান আবারো যখন দেশের চরম ক্রান্তিলগ্নে সিপাহি বিপ্লবের মাধ্যমে ক্ষমতায় এলেন। পারতেন সব মুছে ফেলে নিজের নাম বড় করে ইতিহাসের পাতায় লিখে দিয়ে যেতে, তা তিনি করেননি। জীবনে কখনো বলেনওনি বরং সম্মান প্রদর্শন করেছেন সুবিধাবাদী নেতাদের।
আর চালু করেছেন বহুদলীয় গণতন্ত্রের ধারা। স্বাধীনতা ফিরিয়ে দিয়েছিলেন সংবাদ পরিবেশনার সব সংবাদমাধ্যমকে। দেশে ফিরিয়ে এনেছিলেন সেই সুবিধাবাদী নেতার কন্যাকে এবং আনার সময় বলেছিলেন, নিজের জীবন দিয়ে হলেও সুবিধাবাদী কন্যার হেফাজত করবেন। সুযোগ করে দিয়েছিলেন ওই নেতার কন্যাদের রাজনীতি করতে। এ ধরনের উদার নেতা কি আর আমরা পাব?
এর ফলে কী ঘটল? যে মাসে ওই সুবিধাবাদী নেতার কন্যা দেশে এলেন, সে মাসেই ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের এক হলে জিয়াউর রহমান হত্যার পরিকল্পনা করা হয় এবং জিয়াউর রহমান নিজেও জানতেন চট্টগ্রামে তার জীবনের হুমকি ছিল। তারপরও দেশ ও জাতির স্বার্থে তিনি সেখানে কোন্দল থামাতে জান, গিয়ে শহীদ হন। ৩০ মে তাকে হত্যা করা হয়।
তার জানাজায় রেকর্ডসংখ্যক মানুষ সমাগত হয়েছিল এবং তার ১৯-দফা বাস্তবায়নের মাধ্যমে বলতে পারি জিয়াউর রহমানই এখন পর্যন্ত বাংলাদেশের একজন প্রকৃত দেশপ্রেমিক রাষ্ট্রপতি ছিলেন।
