Irrational numbers, said to be invented by Pythagoreans, were known to Egyptians and Indians before.  The credit of invention is given to Hippasus of Metapontum. He was intrigued by the fascinating geometric symmetry of the pentagram. While star gazing, he found out that a pentagram is actually made of endless chain of pentagrams nested inside. From it, he invented the existence of incommensurables presently termed irrational numbers. For this heresy which went against the basic tenet of Pythagorean theorem that everything could be explained by integral numbers, Hippasus was thrown overboard to drown into the sea. There is a number of useful irrational numbers, pi is one of them.

Those constant numbers derived from great calculations and seem to reflect actual reality as close as possible. How else would anybody can calculate the area of a circle? I am not sure what are we fighting about? I am lost.

God is not a good analogy for the number system. The number system consists of definitions, axioms, properties, rules, etc.

What are Imaginary number? Numbers are metaphysical concept; different people represent them with different shapes, just like the concept of God; people represent God with different shapes as well. We all know the importance of numbers in our physical world. But, unfortunately, importance of God is hard to justify anymore. There is a saying like this - God becomes Ghost due to the human conspiracies. Practically, God has become monster under human conspiracies.

I am a little confused. Were Haque and Toaha really followers of Siraj Sikder? 
Matin and Alauddin were also major players during the liberation war. They fought both AL and Indian army. These two figures are absent in the article.

Pi is also a number. In the number system it falls into the category called irrational number. I think Ramanujan computed the value of pi with a great accuracy.

We need a lot of metaphysical concepts to explain reality, e.g., we need imaginary numbers to describe quantum mechanics of electron. That does not make imaginary number more real than unicorn.

I fully understand why many people think mind is real. The problem is: a real thing does exist in reality or can be created/built with the raw materials. If a mind is real, we should be able create it. 
We can't do it right now but it would be foolish for me to say that the idea is totally impossible in the future. So, stay tuned for the future development!

This should be the right approach (adopted by Prof. Das and Mr. Deeldar) to study mind as this is the scientific approach. Old fashioned and unscientific approach will take us nowhere except that it will simply help us in engaging fascinating but unproductive intellectual exercises. Number of neurons and their configuration and complexity in the brain explain many phenomena including memory and learning of our mental faculty. I will say that mind is real although not tangible as I will continue to use Metaphysics ( and hence the adjective metaphysical) as a distinct branch of philosophy that deals with subjects not within the jurisdiction of science proper particularly Physics.

Mind is rather an abstract metaphysical idea, which does not posses any physical structure except it is an embodiment of great numbers of neurons connecting to each other forming a giant network hub. A sane mind can become a cripple one with death of only few critical neurons in the temporal lobe.

ঢাকার মার্কিন দূতাবাসের কর্মীরা সেই প্রস্তাব পাঠিয়ে দিল্লীর মার্কিন দূতাবাসে। সেখান থেকে পাঠানো হয় ওয়াশিংটনে। এরপর ওয়াশিংটন ইসলামাবাদের মার্কিন দূতাবাসের কাছে জানতে চাইল নিয়াজীর এই প্রস্তাবে পাক প্রেসিডেন্ট ইয়াহিয়ার সমর্থন আছে কি না। প্রস্তাবের মূল কথা- 'আমরা যুদ্ধ বন্ধ করেছি। তবে বাংলাদেশে অবস্থানরত গোটা পাকবাহিনীকে চলে যেতে দিতে হবে, কাউকে গ্রেফতার করা চলবে না।'
জেনারেল নিয়াজী মার্কিন দূতাবাসের কাছ থেকে এই আশ্বাস পায় যে, সপ্তম নৌবহর তার লোকজনকে পশ্চিমে নিয়ে যাবে। ঢাকার অন্যান্য বিদেশী দূতাবাস কিন্তু এ সময় আত্মসমর্পণের পরামর্শ দিয়েছিল। বিদেশীরাও বুঝেছিল নিয়াজী লড়াই চালিয়ে সুবিধা পাবে না। শুধুই লোক মারা যাবে। ১৫ তারিখ দিল্লীর মার্কিন দূতাবাসের মাধ্যমে ভারত সরকার খবর পেল নিয়াজী শর্তসাপেক্ষে আত্মসমর্পণ করতে চায়। কিন্তু ভারত সরকার এ প্রস্তাব নাকচ করে দিল। ভারতীয় বাহিনী বাংলাদেশের পাকবাহিনীকে এই আশ্বাস দিতে রাজি যে, যুদ্ধবন্দীরা জেনেভা কনভেনশন অনুযায়ী ব্যবহার পাবেন।
পাকি জেনারেল নিয়াজীর শর্তসাপেক্ষে আত্মসমর্পণের প্রস্তাব পেয়ে ভারতীয় বাহিনী মনে করে এটি তার কৌশল। নিয়াজীর প্রস্তাবকে তাদের কাছে মনে হলো এটি যুদ্ধবিরতি, আত্মসমর্পণ নয়। কিন্তু মিত্রবাহিনী বিনাশর্তে আত্মসমর্পণ ছাড়া কিছুতেই রাজি নয়। এ জন্য ১৬ ডিসেম্বর সকাল ৯টা পর্যন্ত সময় দেয়া হলো। আর এ পর্যন্ত ভারতীয় বিমান বাহিনী কোন আক্রমণ করবে না। এর মধ্যে আত্মসমর্পণের খবর না পেলে আবার আক্রমণ শুরু করা হবে।
জেনারেল মানেক শ' তাঁর শেষ বার্তায় পিন্ডিকে বলেছিল, সকাল ৯টার মধ্যে আত্মসমর্পণ করতে হবে। শোনা যায়, নিয়াজী সেদিন সারারাত ধরে ইসলামাবাদের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগের চেষ্টা করেন, দূতাবাসের সাহায্য নেন। কিন্তু পাক প্রেসিডেন্ট ইয়াহিয়াকে খুঁজে পাওয়া যায়নি। তখন মিত্রবাহিনীর গোলার আওয়াজ বাড়তে থাকে। ঢাকার অসামরিক পাকিস্তানীরা ও কয়েকটি বিদেশী দূতাবাসও আত্মসমর্পণের চাপ বাড়িয়ে দিল পাক হানাদার বাহিনীর ওপর।
৪৩ বছর আগে একাত্তরের এদিন মধ্যরাতে পাকিস্তান সেনাবাহিনীর চীফ অব স্টাফের কাছ থেকে শেষ নির্দেশ পান নিয়াজী। নিয়াজীকে জানানো হয়, আত্মসমর্পণের শর্ত গ্রহণ করা যেতে পারে। এ নির্দেশ পেয়ে সেনানিবাসে নিজের কক্ষে বসে কান্নায় ভেঙ্গে পড়েন কথিত পরাক্রমশালী পাকি জেনারেল নিয়াজী। কিছুটা ধাতস্থ হয়ে রাত দুইটার মধ্যে বাংলাদেশের সব জায়গায় অবস্থানরত হানাদার বাহিনীকে আত্মসমর্পণের নির্দেশ দিয়ে তারবার্তা পাঠান।

বিজয়ের মাস১৫ ডিসেম্বর, ১৯৭১পাক হানাদারদের শেষ আশাও শেষ। পাকিস্তান সেনাবাহিনীর পূর্বাঞ্চলীয় কমান্ডের অধিনায়ক জেনারেল নিয়াজী বুঝে গেল, মার্কিন সপ্তম নৌবহর তাকে সাহায্য করতে আসবে না। ফলে ১৫ ডিসেম্বর সকালে সব আশা ছেড়ে দিল, শর্তসাপেক্ষে আত্মসমর্পণের প্রস্তাব নিয়ে বিদেশী দূতাবাসের সঙ্গে আনুষ্ঠানিক আলোচনা শুরু করল নিয়াজী। কিন্তু শর্তসাপেক্ষে আত্মসমর্পণের প্রস্তাব ভারত সরকার প্রত্যাখ্যান করলে আরও ভেঙ্গে পড়ে পাক হানাদাররা। মিত্রবাহিনী ১৬ ডিসেম্বর সকাল ৯টার মধ্যে বিনাশর্তে আত্মসমর্পণের চূড়ান্ত সময় বেঁধে দিল।ঢাকার মার্কিন দূতাবাসের কর্মীরা সেই প্রস্তাব পাঠিয়ে দিল্লীর মার্কিন দূতাবাসে। সেখান থেকে পাঠানো হয় ওয়াশিংটনে। এরপর ওয়াশিংটন ইসলামাবাদের মার্কিন দূতাবাসের কাছে জানতে চাইল নিয়াজীর এই প্রস্তাবে পাক প্রেসিডেন্ট ইয়াহিয়ার সমর্থন আছে কি না। প্রস্তাবের মূল কথা- 'আমরা যুদ্ধ বন্ধ করেছি। তবে বাংলাদেশে অবস্থানরত গোটা পাকবাহিনীকে চলে যেতে দিতে হবে, কাউকে গ্রেফতার করা চলবে না।'জেনারেল নিয়াজী মার্কিন দূতাবাসের কাছ থেকে এই আশ্বাস পায় যে, সপ্তম নৌবহর তার লোকজনকে পশ্চিমে নিয়ে যাবে। ঢাকার অন্যান্য বিদেশী দূতাবাস কিন্তু এ সময় আত্মসমর্পণের পরামর্শ দিয়েছিল। বিদেশীরাও বুঝেছিল নিয়াজী লড়াই চালিয়ে সুবিধা পাবে না। শুধুই লোক মারা যাবে। ১৫ তারিখ দিল্লীর মার্কিন দূতাবাসের মাধ্যমে ভারত সরকার খবর পেল নিয়াজী শর্তসাপেক্ষে আত্মসমর্পণ করতে চায়। কিন্তু ভারত সরকার এ প্রস্তাব নাকচ করে দিল। ভারতীয় বাহিনী বাংলাদেশের পাকবাহিনীকে এই আশ্বাস দিতে রাজি যে, যুদ্ধবন্দীরা জেনেভা কনভেনশন অনুযায়ী ব্যবহার পাবেন।পাকি জেনারেল নিয়াজীর শর্তসাপেক্ষে আত্মসমর্পণের প্রস্তাব পেয়ে ভারতীয় বাহিনী মনে করে এটি তার কৌশল। নিয়াজীর প্রস্তাবকে তাদের কাছে মনে হলো এটি যুদ্ধবিরতি, আত্মসমর্পণ নয়। কিন্তু মিত্রবাহিনী বিনাশর্তে আত্মসমর্পণ ছাড়া কিছুতেই রাজি নয়। এ জন্য ১৬ ডিসেম্বর সকাল ৯টা পর্যন্ত সময় দেয়া হলো। আর এ পর্যন্ত ভারতীয় বিমান বাহিনী কোন আক্রমণ করবে না। এর মধ্যে আত্মসমর্পণের খবর না পেলে আবার আক্রমণ শুরু করা হবে।জেনারেল মানেক শ' তাঁর শেষ বার্তায় পিন্ডিকে বলেছিল, সকাল ৯টার মধ্যে আত্মসমর্পণ করতে হবে। শোনা যায়, নিয়াজী সেদিন সারারাত ধরে ইসলামাবাদের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগের চেষ্টা করেন, দূতাবাসের সাহায্য নেন। কিন্তু পাক প্রেসিডেন্ট ইয়াহিয়াকে খুঁজে পাওয়া যায়নি। তখন মিত্রবাহিনীর গোলার আওয়াজ বাড়তে থাকে। ঢাকার অসামরিক পাকিস্তানীরা ও কয়েকটি বিদেশী দূতাবাসও আত্মসমর্পণের চাপ বাড়িয়ে দিল পাক হানাদার বাহিনীর ওপর।৪৩ বছর আগে একাত্তরের এদিন মধ্যরাতে পাকিস্তান সেনাবাহিনীর চীফ অব স্টাফের কাছ থেকে শেষ নির্দেশ পান নিয়াজী। নিয়াজীকে জানানো হয়, আত্মসমর্পণের শর্ত গ্রহণ করা যেতে পারে। এ নির্দেশ পেয়ে সেনানিবাসে নিজের কক্ষে বসে কান্নায় ভেঙ্গে পড়েন কথিত পরাক্রমশালী পাকি জেনারেল নিয়াজী। কিছুটা ধাতস্থ হয়ে রাত দুইটার মধ্যে বাংলাদেশের সব জায়গায় অবস্থানরত হানাদার বাহিনীকে আত্মসমর্পণের নির্দেশ দিয়ে তারবার্তা পাঠান।- জনকণ্ঠ
