A police officer in Philadelphia was ambushed by a man who pledged allegiance to the so-called Islamic State (IS), officials have said.
Edward Archer fired at least 11 shots at the officer, in an act done "in the name of Islam", police said.
Despite being shot, Officer Jessie Hartnett left his vehicle and was able to return fire, striking Mr Archer at least once.
Mr Archer escaped on foot but was apprehended by police shortly after.
"This is absolutely one of the scariest things I've ever seen," Police Commissioner Richard Ross said.
"This guy tried to execute the police officer. The police officer had no idea he was coming."

"He has confessed to committing this cowardly act in the name of Islam," the police commissioner said, because he believes "police defend laws that are contrary to Islam".
There is no evidence that Mr Archer, 30, of Yeadon, Pennsylvania, was working with anyone else, he said.
Philadelphia court records show he was convicted of assault in March and was set to begin a prison term. He had also been convicted of forging documents in a nearby suburb.
Mr Archer's mother Valerie Holliday said he is mentally ill and had suffered multiple head injuries, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

"He's been acting kind of strange lately. He's been talking to himself . . . laughing and mumbling," she told the newspaper. "He's been hearing voices in his head. We asked him to get medical help."
Ms Holliday also told the Inquirer that he had been a devout Muslim "for a long time".
Mr Hartnett had been a police officer for at least five years and had also served in the US Coast Guard.
Mr Ross said he has "very serious injuries that will require multiple surgeries".
After the shoot-out, Mr Hartnett screamed into his radio: "I'm bleeding heavily."
"His will to live undoubtedly saved his life," Mr Ross said. "This could have easily been a police funeral."
Mr Ross said Mr Archer's gun was a police firearm that was stolen in 2013.
"We know it was stolen; how many hands it may have passed through in the last couple of years, we do not know," Mr Ross said.
The shooting comes one month after attacks in San Bernardino, California, that left 14 people dead, and were committed by a couple who officials say were inspired by radical Islam.
They also come a day after police in Paris, France, shot dead a man who was apparently trying to attack a police station on the anniversary of the Charlie Hebdo attacks.

This compassionate narration portrays that – once people come abroad, they become heartless bastards, who do not recognize their relatives once they leave motherland. Is this really true?
I think, not only brilliants, non-brilliants as well come to foreign countries to make a living. What else could they do at home being jobless or doing something that would be barely enough to feed themselves?
At least, they come to a foreign country and start earning right away; part of which then go back home, which keeps economy afloat and provide jobs for relatives and friends in the homeland. When will the story of their sacrifices be told with such compassion?
I do not think brilliants or non-brilliants ever forget their parents and relatives, but get stuck in the strange land with boundless duties of work, and responsibilities  of bring up their own families in the foreign land, all by themselves. Who will tell the story of such struggle with compassion?
No one.

গল্পের ছলে কথা বলা 
একজন আরজু চেয়ারম্যানের কথা 

আমাদের শহরে একজন আরজু চেয়ারম্যান ছিলেন। মুসলীম লীগ করতেন বা সমর্থক ছিলেন। পরে অল্পবিস্তর রাজাকার হয়েছেন। চালাক মানুষ, দু'দিকই রক্ষা করেছেন। দেখতে শুনতে সুদর্শন, লম্বা-চওড়া। ষাটের দশকে আমরা যখন একেবারে ছোট্ট, স্কুলে পড়ি তখন তাকে জানতাম 'আরজু গুন্ডা' হিসাবে। আমার মেজদিদি 'বেলা গুহ পলি' চাঁদপুর কলেজে বিএ পড়তো। এই একমাত্র বোন, যে মেট্রিক পাশ করার পর চাঁদপুরে থেকে যায়। সম্ভবত: মেজদি লেখাপড়ায় মোটামুটি ভালো ছিলো এবং বাবা ভেবেছেন বিএ পাশ করার পর কোলকাতা পাঠিয়ে দেবেন। একদিন শুনলাম, মেজদিদের এক বান্ধবীকে আরজু গুন্ডা প্রকাশ্য দিবালোকে রাস্তা থেকে উঠিয়ে নিয়ে গেছে। মেয়েটির নাম ছিলো মান্টি, পুরো নাম কখনোই জানতাম না, এখনো নয়, জানার প্রয়োজনও বোধ করিনি। শুধু জানতাম, মেয়েটি হিন্দু। বড়দের তখন বলতে শুনেছি, 'মান-ইজ্জত নিয়ে আর পাকিস্তানে থাকা যাবেনা। দিনের বেলায় মেয়ে উঠিয়ে নিয়ে যায়, কোন বিচার নাই'। 

সেটা ছিলো পূর্ব-পাকিস্তান, অর্ধ-শতাব্দী পর আজো অবস্থার তেমন পরিবর্তন হয়নি। দেশ পাল্টেছে, মানুষগুলো পাল্টায়নি। বরং অনেকাংশে পরিস্থিতি খারাপ হয়েছে। শুনেছি বামপন্থী নেত্রী ইলা মিত্র ধরা পরার পর প্রশাসন পুলিশকে লেলিয়ে দিয়েছিলো 'গণধর্ষণ' করতে! ইলা মিত্র একে তো বাম , তায় আবার হিন্দু, ডবল ক্রাইম, সুতরাং শাস্তিও ডবল। তবে ইলা মিত্র আজো ইতিহাসে সসন্মানে বেঁচে আছেন, তার উত্পীরকরা নন। যাহোক, মান্টিকে তো আরজু উঠিয়ে নিয়ে গেলেন, তারপর আর খোঁজ নেই। আজো গ্রামবাংলায় এমন ঘটনা ভূড়িভূড়ি, প্রশাসনের কোন দাযিত্ব নেই, সমাজ নির্বিকার বা অনেক ক্ষেত্রে উত্সাহী। কারণ একজন বিধর্মীকে ইসলামে আনতে পারলে যে বেহেশত নিশ্চিত। এমন সুযোগ কেউ ছাড়ে? এ বিষয়ে হরে কৃষ্ণ দেবনাথ, যিনি ছাত্রলীগের কেন্দ্রীয় কমিটির একজন নেতা ছিলেন, পঁচাত্তরের পর আমায় একটি ব্যাখ্যা দিয়েছিলেন, যেটি আসলেই কার্যকর এবং যথার্থ। তার ব্যাখ্যাটি তখন মানিনি, এখন মানি। ব্যাখ্যাটি এরকম:

ওরা একটি মেয়েকে উঠিয়ে নিয়ে যায়, তারপর ২/৩মাস আটকে রাখে। কখনো-সখনো যথেষ্ট ভালো ব্যবহারও করে। এই সময়ের মধ্যে মেয়েটি যেভাবেই হোক গর্ভবতী হয়ে পরে। তার সামনে আর ফেরার কোন রাস্তা থাকেনা। এরপর ধর্মান্তরিত। আগে বা পরে বিয়ে, হ্যা, প্রায়শ: ধর্ষকের সাথেই। বাংলাদেশে হাজার হাজার নাবালিকা এই পরিস্থিতির অসহায় শিকার। হরেদা-কে জিজ্ঞাসা করেছিলাম, এমনিতে কি একটা মেয়েকে উঠিয়ে নেয়া যায়? তিনি বলেছিলেন, হ্যা, যায়; কারণ প্রশাসন নিস্ক্রীয়, সমাজ পক্ষে বরং পারলে মিছিল করে। তিনি যোগ দেন, কখনো-সখনো হয়তো মেয়েটি স্কুলে যাবার সময় কোন ছেলেকে দেখে একটু হেসেছে, বা চোখে চোখ পরে গেছে। ব্যস, ছেলেটি ধরে নিয়েছে মেয়েটি তাকে ভালবাসে! এরপর অপহরণ। অনেকে এটাকে এখন 'লাভ-জ্বীহাদ' বলে থাকেন। আর একথা তো সবার মুখে মুখে যে, হিন্দু মেয়েরা ভালো বউ হয়। আমার গিন্নী প্রায়শ: বলে থাকেন, ওদের এক মুসলিম প্রতিবেশিনী ওকে খুব আদর করতো, এবং বলতো ওনার ইচ্ছে একটি হিন্দু মেয়ে তার ঘরে বউ হয়ে আসুক। ইচ্ছেটা মন্দ নয়, জোর করে উঠিয়ে নেয়াটা মন্দ। যাহোক, একথা শোনার পর আমার শ্বাশুরী অবশ্য মেয়েকে আর ওবাড়ীতে যেতে দেননি।

আরজু'র ক্ষেত্রে ঠিক কি হয়েছিলো জানা নেই, তবে আরজু মান্টিকে বিয়ে করেছিলেন। ক'দিন পর আরজু আবার বিয়ে করেন, আবার বিয়ে। জানা যায়, গোটা তিনেক বিয়ে তিনি করেছিলেন। একটু বড় হলে আমরা প্রায়শ: মিশন রোডে আরজু'র বাড়ীর পাশ দিয়ে হাটতাম। পর্দানশীন থাকায় কাউকে দেখার উপায় ছিলোনা। মান্টিকে তো নয়ই, দেখলেও চিনতাম না, কারণ কখনো দেখিনি। শুনেছি সতিনরা মান্টিকে চাকরানীর মতই সমাদর করতো। আসলে তখনও যেমন, এখনো তেমন, যেসব হিন্দু রমনী ওভাবে হারিয়ে যায়, তাদের ভাগ্যও তেমনিই হারিয়ে যায়। বাংলাদেশে এমত ভাগ্যহত রমনীর সংখ্যা খুব একটা কম নয়। যদিও, ব্যতিক্রম যে নেই তা নয়, তবে ব্যতিক্রম শুধু ব্যতিক্রমই! সদ্য ঘটে যাওয়া সিলেটের ধর্মপাশার মান্টি রানীর কাহিনীটিও হয়তো একই উপাখ্যানের ভিন্নতর রূপ।

অনেকদিন আগে আমি ও আমার বন্ধু গোলাম রাব্বানী বায়তুল মোকাররম দিয়ে হেটে যাচ্ছিলাম। ঠিক তখনই এক ভিখারিনী ভিক্ষা চায়। ঢাকায় এদৃশ্য মোটেই বেমানান নয়। বেসুরো লাগলো যখন মধ্যবয়সী ফকিরনি বললো, 'স্যার, কয়টা ট্যাকা দেন, আমি হিন্দু থ্য়াইক্কা মুসলমান হইছি। ওই মহিলাকে ভিক্ষা দিয়েছিলাম কিনা মনে নেই, তবে তাকে বলেছিলাম, হিন্দু থাকলে অন্তত: তুমি ভিক্ষা করতে না। আমার অবশ্য তখন দিলীপ চক্রবর্তীর কথা মনে পড়ে যায়। দিলীপবাবু আমার সহকর্মী ছিলেন। দৈনিক বাংলারবাণীর সিনিয়র রিপোর্টার দিলীপ চক্রবর্তীকে তখন সবাই চিনতো। আমায় ভাইস্তা বলে ডাকতেন এবং বেশ পছন্দও করতেন। তিনি নেই, কিন্তু তার এই গল্পটি বেশ মনে আছে। গল্পটি যে তিনি শুধু আমায় বলেছেন তা নয়, এ গল্প তার কাছ থেকে অনেকেই শুনেছেন, একাধিকবার। গল্পটি এরকম:

দুই বন্ধু ট্রেনে যাচ্ছেন, একজন হিন্দু, অপরজন মুসলমান। কিছুক্ষণ পর ওই কামরায় দু'জন ভিখারী ওঠেন, একজন হিন্দু, অন্যজন মুসলমান। হিন্দু বন্ধুটি মুসলমান ভিখারীকে একটি টাকা দেন, কিন্তু হিন্দু ভিখারীকে দুরদুর করে তাড়িয়ে দিলেন। মুসলমান বন্ধুটি দুই ভিখারিকেই ভিক্ষা দিলেন। ভিখারীরা নেমে গেলে মুসলমান বন্ধুটি হিন্দু বন্ধুকে তেড়ে আসেন এবং গালিগালাজ দিয়ে বলেন, 'শালা আমি দুই ভিখারীকেই দু'টি টাকা দিলাম, আর তুই মুসলমানটারে ঠিকই ভিক্ষা দিলি, কিন্তু তোর্ স্বজাতি হিন্দুটারে দিলিনা। তোর তো হিন্দুটারে দেয়া উচিত ছিলো।' হিন্দু বন্ধুটি তখন বলে, না, দোস্ত, আমি মুসলমান ভিক্ষুকরে টাকা দিছি যাতে ওব্যাটা সারাজীবন ভিক্ষা করে; আর হিন্দুটারে দেই নাই যাতে ও ভিক্ষা না করে, কারণ আমি চাইনা ও ভিক্ষা করুক। ঢাকা শহরে লক্ষ লক্ষ ভিক্ষুক, এরমধ্যে কতজন হিন্দু বা সংখ্যালঘু আছেন তা খোঁজা সত্যিই দুরুহ। ১৯৮৯ সালে বাবা মারা গেলে কলকাতাতে শ্রাদ্ধ হয়, আমি সস্ত্রীক ঢাকা থেকে কলকাতা যাই। কোলকাতায় তখন দুই টাকার নোট পাওয়া যেত, আগেভাগেই আমি একটি বা দু'টি দুই টাকার নোটের বান্ডিল এনে রাখি যাতে ভিক্ষুকদের দিতে পারি। আমার মাথায় তখন ঢাকায় যেকোন অনুষ্ঠানে ভিক্ষুকের ভীড়ের দৃশ্য। শ্রাদ্ধের দিন আমার অবাক হবার পালা, একজন ভিক্ষুকও এলোনা! চিন্তা করলাম, এর কারণ কি? কোলকাতার মানুষ তো আর ঢাকার চেয়ে ধনী নয়, বরং আমাদের অবস্থা ভালো। হিন্দুদের শ্রাদ্ধে নিয়ম আছে যাতে কাকপক্ষীও খালি হাতে ফেরত না যায়। সেদিন কেউ খালি হাতে ফিরে যায়নি, তবে কাউকে ভিক্ষা দিতে না পেরে আমি দু:খভরাক্রান্ত হৃদয়ে খালিহাতে দেশে ফিরে এসেছিলাম।    

যাহোক, আরজু চেয়ারম্যানের সাথে পরে আমারও বেশ সু-সম্পর্ক হয়। বাবার সাথে আমি বহুবার আমিন ডাক্তার, শৈলেন স্যার ও আরজু চেয়ারম্যানকে বড়শি দিয়ে মাছ ধরতে দেখেছি। সেই সুবাদে বাড়ির মহিলাদের দিকে আরজু'র তির্যক দৃষ্টি অর্থাৎ চোখ দিয়ে মেয়েমানুষ গিলে ফেলার চাহনী আমার দৃষ্টি এড়ায়নি। শৈলেন্দ্রনাথ রায় ছিলেন চাঁদপুর কলেজের ইংরেজীর প্রফেসর, তার পুত্র জ্ঞানাঙ্কুর রায় মানে আমাদের অংকুর রায় আমার সহপাঠী ও বন্ধু। বাবা ও আরজু বন্ধু ছিলেন একথা বলা যাবেনা, তবে এরা চাঁদপুর ক্লাবে নিয়মিত তাস খেলতেন, আড্ডা মারতেন, কাজেই সু-সম্পর্ক ছিলো তা বলা যায়। সেই সুবাদে আমাদের সাথেও আরজু'র সু-সম্পর্ক গড়ে ওঠে। ঐসময় চাঁদপুর ক্লাবে শহরের এলিটরা আড্ডা মারতেন, কলেজের শিক্ষক, ডাক্তার, প্রশাসনের বড়কর্তাদের নিয়মিত যাতায়াত ছিলো। আরজু ছিলেন প্রভাবশালী সদস্য এবং এলিট

। আরজু, যাকে আমরা পরে আরজুভাই ডাকতাম, তার সম্পর্কে আরো দু'একটি গল্প না বললেই নয়. তাই আর একটি গল্প বলছি: বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিব সপরিবারে নিহত হবার পর

চাঁদপুর গেছি। একদিন মিশন রোডের কোনায় আরজুভাইয়ের সাথে দেখা। ঐ জাগয়ায় কার যেন একটি দর্জির দোকান ছিলো, ওখানে আমরা জটলা করে আড্ডা মারতাম। আরজুভাই এলেন, চোখ দু'টো রগরগে লাল। কেউ একজন জিজ্ঞাসা করলো, 'আরজুভাই, আপনার চোখে কি হইছে?' আরজুভাই উত্তর দিলেন, 'হারামজাদারা, শেখ সাহেব মইরা গেল, তোরা কেউ কাঁদলিনা, তাই কাঁদতে কাঁদতে আমার চোখ দুইটা ফুইল্যা লাল হইয়া গেল।' আসলে আরজুভাইয়ের চোখ উঠেছিলো।

আরজুভাইয়ের বলা আর একটি গল্প আমার বেশ মনে আছে। বাংলাদেশে তখন সামরিক শাসনের যুগ। সময়টা হয়তো আশির দশকের শুরুতে, একদিন মিশন রোডের কর্নারের আড্ডায় আরজুভাই এলেন। কোন এক প্রসঙ্গে সামরিক শাসনের কথা এলো, এলো সেনা সদস্যদের দাপটের কথা। আরজুভাই তখন ওই দাপটের গল্প শুনালেন, গল্পটি এরকম: একলোক দৌড়ে হন্তদন্ত হয়ে বাসে উঠেন, বাসে ছিলো প্রচন্ড ভীড়। তিনি খেয়াল করেননি যে তার পা আর এক ভদ্রলোকের পায়ের ওপর। বাস চলছে, ঠাসাঠাসি ভীড়, অনেকেই দাড়িয়ে। কিছুক্ষণ পর যেই লোকের পায়ে পাড়া দিয়ে প্রথমোক্ত ভদ্রলোক দাড়িয়েছিলেন তিনি, অর্থাৎ ২য় ভদ্রলোক বিনয়ের সাথে ১ম ভদ্রলোককে জিজ্ঞাসা করেন, 'ভাই, আপনি কি মিলিটারী?' প্রথম ভদ্রলোক নেতিবাচক উত্তর দেন। ২য় ভদ্রলোক আবার প্রশ্ন করেন, আপনার ভাই-ব্রাদার কি কেউ মিলিটারী? ১ম ভদ্রলোক, না। ২য় ভদ্রলোক: আপনার আত্মীয়-স্বজন কেউ? ১ম ভদ্রলোক, না। ২য় ভদ্রলোক, আপনার প্রতিবেশী, গ্রামের কেউ কি মিলিটারী? ১ম ভদ্রলোক আবারো বলেন, না। এবার বেশ রেগে ২য় ভদ্রলোক বলেন, 'তাইলে তাড়াতাড়ি আপনার পা-টা আমার পায়ের ওপর থাইক্যা সরাইয়া নেন।'

পাঠক, একদা আরজু গুন্ডা নামে পরিচিত একজন ব্যক্তি সময়ের ব্যবধানে পরে আমাদের আরজুভাই হয়েছেন। তিনি চেয়ারম্যানও হয়েছেন, এলিট হয়েছেন। সামাজিক দৃষ্টিতে তিনি একজন সফল মানুষ। তার গুন্ডামির গল্প আমরা শুনেছি। মান্টি উপাখ্যান বাদ দিলে তাকে অতটা খারাপও মনে হবেনা। আর মান্টি ঘটনা তো আমাদের সমাজে অস্বাভাবিক নয়, কারো কারো নজরে তো তিনি হিরো। হয়তো এ ঘটনায় তার স্বর্গোদ্ধার খুলে গেছে। হয়তো তিনি নরকে পচছেন, কে জানে। তিনি নাই, কিন্তু এই আরজুভাই-ই কি আমাদের সমাজচিত্র নয়?  তবে যাই বলিনা না কেন, আমি বা আমার বন্ধুরা কি কখনো তাকে মনেপ্রাণে গ্রহণ করেছি? মনে হয়না। আমার মনে হয়তো ছিলো মান্টির ঘটনা; আর আমার বন্ধু রাব্বানীর মনে হয়তো ছিলো তার মুসলিম লীগের চরিত্রের কথা। হয়তো আমরা তাকে সমীহ করতাম, শ্রদ্ধা নয়। আমাদের আজকের বাংলাদেশী সমাজে সমীহ করার লোকের কোন অভাব নেই, কিন্তু শ্রদ্ধা করার মত তেমন মানুষ কই? ফলো করার মত নেতা কই?

You do not need to ponder, it's the generational indoctrination of ultra-liberal PC mantra that is diffusing the Western judgments.
Tonight, I saw the Mayor of Cologne, Germany, advised girls move in groups, and dress appropriately not to arouse sexual attackers. This is exactly the advise Mullahs usually give to girls in the Muslim countries.  Just think about it.
The Western world has been indoctrinating new generations with the culture of political correctness and multiculturalism since 1960s. Now, the chickens are coming home to roost. It will take generational detoxification, if West can readily diagnose the disease and take appropriate actions. If not, it will meet dire consequences very soon.
Just think about the San Bernardino, California, neighbors of the Jihadi couple, who suspected nefarious activities in their neighbor's house, but did not say a thing for fear of being labelled as racist; their PC culture cost 13-14 lives.

Germany shocked by Cologne New Year gang assaults on women


Two observations in the BBC news report: 1) "The men were of Arab or North African appearance." 2) "They were all asylum seekers, carrying copies of their residence certificates."

These observations could be true or false. But Europe must weigh in on what kind of brainwashed people they are being humane to and how. They should be humane, but they must also make sure that they are not spoiling their homeland with people who are too brainwashed, and could provide the so-called moderate environment that would produce people that have no sense of human rights and dignity.
