If the tea party wallahs are true to their principle, they should return the whole land called U. S. A. to the Red Indians. In a country where big greed has to be saved by Govt. interference, capitalism doesn't apply.  Even the East India Company, the largest private company ever, needed to be saved by Govt. help occasionally.

As far as we know, the last housing bubble of 2008 was mainly caused by reckless liberal lending. People with no credit history got housing loans. People who could not afford to buy house, got their dream house. I do not think this is a liberal vs conservative issue. Human greed and corruption what cause crisis..

In reality, conservatism is a mental disorder. Conservatives are always back footed like ghosts. No progress in society has ever been brought about by them. All one needs is to look at the character of conservatives across history to understand how retrogressive they are. In recent history, they include people like Nixon, Regan, and Trump.

As I wrote quite a fee times, I think most Muslims get too much religion from their very birth. They grow up seeing their parents and many family members spending too much time (five times a day) praying systematically, and they are brainwashed to start doing the same too early in their life, and to continue doing it. The reality of that is, they grow up with too much of their mind being in the irrational territory. I actually feel sorry for them; with the way they grow up, it must be very difficult for them to become rational human beings when they are adults, even when they have big academic degrees.

You tend to forget that human minds (read brains) are conditioned right from childhood. A person who grows up in an environment where everybody or nearly everybody says the same thing - for Muslims, Allah is almighty, all powerful etc or for Jews, Yahweh is the creator of everything etc - he is likely to believe that. Once that singular religious virus gets into the mind, it becomes extremely difficult to get rid of even when he grows up. Only if a man lives or grows up in a multicultural environment, does he give up such singular view.

In a multicultural society, you would find many moderate, secular or atheist people. You would not find that in extremely sectarian religious country. Now one might ask why Muslims living in Western societies still cling on to their religious believes? The reason is that although they live in a secular western society, they surround themselves by religious people, they live in ghettos and they get perpetual dose of religion from the mosques. That's why I had been saying for quite a while that mosques and ghettos are the breeding ground of fundamentalism.

I hope I have given you the inner reasons why Muslims, despite their education, are unable to break away from their childhood knowledge.

People of Bangladesh amaze me always. Today they support Awami League, tomorrow they will support BNP. It also amazes me to see the support for BNP, in spite of what BNP has done to Bangladesh by rehabilitating all anti-Bangladesh elements.
Yes, Bongabondhu pardoned those anti-Bangladesh elements form treasonous acts against Bangladesh, but did not relieve them from their genocidal acts against the people of Bangladesh. Also, that did not qualify those anti-Bangladesh elements to be rewarded, as BNP did.  
If intellectuals in Bangladesh still have some senses, they should stop talking nonsense to support BNP; instead, they should advise BNP to come clean publicly with past misdeeds before getting a second chance in politics.

দেশের সর্বোচ্চ আদালত একাত্তরের মানবতাবিরোধী অপরাধের দায়ে আলবদর নেতা মাওলানা মতিউর রহমান নিজামীর ফাঁসি বহাল রেখেছেন। এতে দেশবাসী স্বস্তির নিঃশ্বাস ফেলেছে। এমন একজন জল্লাদও খালেদা জিয়ার মন্ত্রী ছিলেন। সেই খালেদা জিয়া বাংলাদেশের প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার সঙ্গে সংলাপ চান। শুনতে ভালো লাগলেও মন থেকে মানতে পারি না খালেদা জিয়ার প্রস্তাব।
আজ যদি জিয়ার প্রধানমন্ত্রী রাজাকার শাহ আজিজ বেঁচে থাকত তাহলে তারও বিচার হতো, ফাঁসিও হতো। রেহাই পেত না সে। সবুর খানরা বেঁচে থাকলে তাদেরও বিচার হতো। এরা প্রত্যেকে বঙ্গবন্ধুর বদান্যতায় প্রাণে বেঁচে গিয়েছিল। এসব দাগি রাজাকাররা পরবর্তীকালে জিয়ার হাত শক্তিশালী করেছে, বিএনপি গঠনে ভূমিকা রেখেছে। জিয়ার কল্যাণে দেশের রাষ্ট্রক্ষমতার শীর্ষবিন্দুতে বসেছিল। স্বাধীনতার শত্রুরা যদি ক্ষমতা দখল করতে পারে তাহলে দেশটির কী অবস্থা হতে পারে, তা আমরা দেখেছি ২১ বছর ধরে।
যে বদর নেতার ফাঁসির রায় বহাল রইল, সে ইসলামী ছাত্র সংঘের সভাপতি ছিল। তার নেতৃত্বে ১৯৭১ সালে আলবদর বাহিনী গঠিত হয়েছিল। তখন আলবদর বাহিনী ছিল সবচেয়ে দুর্ধর্ষ। এরা মুক্তিযুদ্ধের বিরুদ্ধে পাক হানাদারদের সঙ্গে যৌথ অভিযানে অংশ নিয়েছে। এরা বুদ্ধিজীবী হত্যারও নীলনকশা প্রণয়নকারী ছিল। আলবদরের সহযোগিতা ছাড়া পাকি সেনারা বাংলাদেশের এত মানুষ হত্যা করতে পারত না। ১৯৭১ সালের মুক্তিযুদ্ধ ১৯৬৫ সালের পাক-ভারতের মতো যুদ্ধ ছিল না। মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা গেরিলাযুদ্ধে পাক হানাদারদের পর্যুদস্ত করেছিল। একমাত্র আলবদর বাহিনী বাংলাদেশের নদী-নালা-খালবিল, বাড়িঘর, মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের আস্তানা, ঠিকানা চিনিয়ে দিয়েছে। আলবদর বাহিনীর জল্লাদরা শহীদ রুমীকে জাহানারা ইমামের কোল থেকে ছিনিয়ে নিয়েছে। কবি, সাংবাদিক সেলিনা পারভীনকে ঘর থেকে তুলে নিয়ে যায়। ১৪ ডিসেম্বরের মধ্যে শহীদুল্লাহ কায়সার, মুনীর চৌধুরীসহ অগনিত বুদ্ধিজীবীকে নিজামীর নেতৃত্বে উঠিয়ে নিয়ে রায়েরবাজারের বধ্যভূমিতে হত্যা করে। যিনি ছিলেন চোখের ডাক্তার তার চোখ উপড়ে ফেলা হয়েছিল, যিনি ছিলেন হৃদরোগ বিশেষজ্ঞ তার হৃৎপিণ্ড উপড়ে ফেলা হয়েছিল, যিনি ছিলেন দাঁতের ডাক্তার তার দাঁত তুলে ফেলা হয়েছিল। আর কবি, সাহিত্যিক, শিক্ষকদের নির্দয়ভাবে হাতের পাঞ্জা কেটে ফেলা হয়েছিল। এরা নাকি ইসলামের ধ্বজাধারী, এই ধ্বজাধারীরা মিথ্যা কথা বলে বুদ্ধিজীবীদের ঘর থেকে উঠিয়ে নিয়ে গেছে।
শহীদ বুদ্ধিজীবীদের রচনাবলি পড়ার সময় আমি বিস্মিত, স্তম্ভিত হয়েছি, কী সাংঘাতিক মেধাবী ছিলেন তারা। অনেকে বিশ্ব স্বীকৃত পণ্ডিত ছিলেন। এই দেশবরেণ্যদের হত্যা করা হয়েছে বাংলাদেশকে মেধাশূন্য করে দেয়ার জন্য। এ জন্যই তো এখন দেশে মৌলবাদবিরোধী আন্দোলন জমে ওঠে না। আলবদরের ঘাতকরা দেশ স্বাধীন হওয়ার পর চট করে অদৃশ্য হয়ে যায়, কেউ তাদের ধরতে পারেনি; এতই ধূর্ত জামায়াত-শিবিরের ঘাতকরা! আড়ালে আডালে থেকে এরা বঙ্গবন্ধু সরকারের বিরুদ্ধে প্রখর ধর্মীয় অপপ্রচার চালিয়েছে। তারপর জিয়ার আমলে তারা বুক টান করে তাদের খাস তালুকে ফিরে আসে। ২১ বছর পর্যন্ত এরা নির্বিচারে বাংলাদেশের ছাত্র-বুদ্ধিজীবী-শিক্ষক, মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের পায়ের রগ কেটেছে, হাতের কব্জি কেটেছে, মাথার খুলি চূর্ণ করেছে। এরা চট্টগ্রাম ও রাজশাহীতে পাকিস্তান আমলের মতো উপনিবেশ গড়ে তুলেছিল। চট্টগ্রামের শহীদ মিনারে কেউ ফুল দিতে পারত না শিবিরের অত্যাচারে। শেখ হাসিনা ক্ষমতায় ফিরে না এলে এত দিনে আলবদরের ঘাতক-নিজামীরা এ দেশকে পাক ওয়াতান বানিয়ে ফেলত। এত দিনে বাংলাদেশের শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানে 'পাকসার জমিন সাদবাদ' গাওয়া শুরু হয়ে যেত। বদর প্রধান, ঘাতক নিজামীর ফাঁসির রায় বহালের খবর পেয়ে সারা জাতি উল্লাসে ফেটে পড়েছে। তবে দুঃখ পেয়েছেন বেগম জিয়া ও তার সুজন-কুজন মার্কা সুশীল মজুমদাররা।
নিজামীর অপরাধের ফিরিস্তি প্রকাশ পেয়েছে বাংলাদেশের বিশেষ বিশেষ জাতীয় পত্রিকায়। সেটা নিয়ে চর্বিত চর্বন করতে চাই না। নিজামী যখন খালেদা জিয়ার মন্ত্রিসভার শিল্পমন্ত্রী ছিল, তখন অলৌকিকভাবে ১০ ট্রাক অস্ত্র এসে পৌঁছেছিল চট্টগ্রাম বন্দরে। এই ঘটনা নিয়ে তখন তুমুল আলোড়ন সৃষ্টি হয়েছিল। বাঙালির চক্ষু চড়কগাছ হয়েছিল, ১০ ট্রাক অস্ত্র, এটা কি মুখের কথা নাকি? কোন উদ্দেশ্যে ১০ ট্রাক অস্ত্র আনা হয়েছিল? বাংলাদেশের অস্তিত্ব বিনাশ করার জন্য? নিয়াজী রাও ফরমান আলীদের পুনঃ প্রতিষ্ঠিত করার জন্য? নাকি আরেকটি ১৫ আগস্টের জন্ম দেয়ার জন্য? এ ব্যাপারে এখনো সঠিক তদন্তের পরিসংখ্যান আমরা পাইনি। এর মোটিভ জানা দরকার। এই দেশদ্রোহী কর্মকাণ্ডের সঙ্গে যারা জড়িত তাদের বিচার হওয়া দরকার।
এ পর্যন্ত যে কজন শীর্ষস্থানীয় ঘাতকের ফাঁসি হয়েছে তাদের মধ্যে নিজামী পয়লা নম্বরের। কারণ সে জামায়াতের আমির। ১৯৭১ সালে নিজামী বলেছিল, 'আলবদর একটি প্রতিজ্ঞা। যেখানে তথাকথিত মুক্তিবাহিনী সেখানেই আলবদর। যেখানে দুষ্কৃতকারী সেখানেই আলবদর। ভারতীয় চরদের কাছে আলবদর সাক্ষাৎ আজরাইল।' এই একটি মাত্র বিবৃতির জন্য নিজামীর ফাঁসি হতে পারত। মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের সে 'তথাকথিত; 'ভারতীয় চর' এবং 'দুষ্কৃতকারী' বলেছে। এর চেয়ে বড় অপরাধ আর কী হতে পারে? শেখ হাসিনা আজ ক্ষমতায় আছেন বলেই এতবড় জল্লাদের বিচার হলো, না হলে এরা জিয়া ও তদীয় পতœী খালেদা জিয়ার ঘাড়ে চড়ে এ দেশকে ইমরান খানদের কাছে বিক্রি করে ফেলত।
বাংলাদেশের রাজনীতিকে নিজামীর মিথ্যাচারের পাপ কলুষিত করে ফেলেছে। ধর্মের আচকান গায়ে দিয়ে, জোব্বা পরে, পরস্ত্রীর পাশে দাঁড়িয়ে ফটো তুলতে এদের ধর্মীয় বিধানে আটকায় না। প্রতি মিনিটে এরা যত মিথ্যা কথা বলেছে, সমগ্র ইউরোপ এক বছরেও এত মিথ্যা কথা বলে না। এরা পাক দস্যুদের দস্যুবৃত্তি, নারী ধর্ষণ দেখেও ওদের পক্ষে হাদিস খাড়া করেছে। জামায়াত-শিবিরের পাণ্ডারা আজ ইসলামের মতো মানবতাবাদী, শান্তির ধর্মকে জঙ্গিবাদের ইশতেহারে পরিণত করেছে। ভাবখানা এমন যে, ইসলাম ওদের পৈতৃক সম্পত্তি।
রাজশাহীর বাগমারায় যখন বাংলা ভাইরা মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের গাছের ডালে ঝুলিয়ে হত্যা করেছে তখন নিজামী বলেছিল, 'বাংলাভাই বলে কেউ নেই। এসব মিডিয়ার সৃষ্টি।' এটা জ্বলজ্যান্ত মিথ্যা কথা না? পরে দেখা গেল বাংলা ভাইয়ের ফাঁসি হয়েছে তত্ত্বাবধায়ক সরকারের আমলে। একটা মিথ্যা প্রমাণিত হলেই তো যথেষ্ট। বিষ এক বালতি খাওয়ার প্রয়োজন হয় না, এক ফোঁটা খেলেই মানুষের মৃত্যু হয়।
নিজামী বলেছিল বাংলাদেশে যুদ্ধাপরাধী বলে কেউ নেই। এ কথা বলা আর দেশদ্রোহিতা করা সমান কথা। নিজামী-মুজাহিদের এই একটি ধৃষ্টতামূলক উক্তির জন্য আরো কয়েক বার ফাঁসি হওয়া দরকার।
বরাবরের মতো বেগম জিয়ার উকিলরা জল্লাদ নিজামীর পক্ষে সাফাই গাওয়ার জন্য আদালতে দাঁড়িয়েছেন। খন্দকার মাহবুব হোসেন কী বলেছেন শোনেন, 'আমার ক্লায়েন্ট নিজামী সাহেব যেভাবে নির্দেশ দেবেন সেভাবেই ব্যবস্থা নেব। আদালতে যে সাক্ষ্য-প্রমাণ উপস্থাপন করা হয়েছে তা সাজানো সাক্ষ্য। পাকিস্তানের সামরিক বাহিনীর যারা এ অপরাধে জড়িত ছিল তাদের বিচার না করে ছেড়ে দেয়া হয়েছে। তাদের সহযোগী হিসেবে আসামির মৃত্যুদণ্ড হতে পারে না।'
নিজামী সাহেব? আহারে! কত সম্মান, কত মধুর কণ্ঠে 'সাহেব' বলা হয়েছে। এরাও আবার মুক্তিযোদ্ধা সমাবেশ ডাকে। আদালত পাড়ায় বিএনপির উকিলদের অভব্যতা দেখে বাঙালি জাতি স্তম্ভিত হয়েছে। বিএনপিও একটি যুদ্ধাপরাধী দল। এই দলের সঙ্গে ৩০ লাখ শহীদের স্বজনদের কোনো আপস হবে না।

It will be an interesting subject to study - why most Muslims, despite their education, are unable to break away from their childhood teaching.
Education and knowledge are two different things; education is just fulfilment of a set of requirements and/or acquisition of a set of skills, but, knowledge is what we acquire throughout our lives. Religion is one such knowledge that most people start (thanks to parents) perhaps in the womb. In most people, especially Muslims, start formal religious teachings much before the start of the formal education, which is intentional, so that formal education cannot override the childhood religious teachings. The question is - is it helping in the lives of the younger generation?   
I have been trying to understand - why so many first generation Muslim youngsters, even after being born and brought up in the Western societies, are becoming much more radicalized than most of their immigrant parents?
The conclusion I have drawn is the following. Intense childhood religious brainwashing at home and at the mosque are making these youngsters misfit in the society, in which they grow up. They cannot do things their other school mates do, and soon they become isolated and frustrated. Unfortunately, they do not know what caused them to be as such. Obviously, they wrongfully blame the society for their plights, and, right at that point, religious political interests come forward to channel that anger and resentment against the society along their religious political interests. So, who do we blame for this?
I would blame parents for the fact that their children become religious radicals. After all, they are the ones who made those kids learn religious education before they are ready for the regular education at school. So, they made them societal misfit.

দেশের সর্বোচ্চ আদালত একাত্তরের মানবতাবিরোধী অপরাধের দায়ে আলবদর নেতা মাওলানা মতিউর রহমান নিজামীর ফাঁসি বহাল রেখেছেন। এতে দেশবাসী স্বস্তির নিঃশ্বাস ফেলেছে। এমন একজন জল্লাদও খালেদা জিয়ার মন্ত্রী ছিলেন। সেই খালেদা জিয়া বাংলাদেশের প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার সঙ্গে সংলাপ চান। শুনতে ভালো লাগলেও মন থেকে মানতে পারি না খালেদা জিয়ার প্রস্তাব।
আজ যদি জিয়ার প্রধানমন্ত্রী রাজাকার শাহ আজিজ বেঁচে থাকত তাহলে তারও বিচার হতো, ফাঁসিও হতো। রেহাই পেত না সে। সবুর খানরা বেঁচে থাকলে তাদেরও বিচার হতো। এরা প্রত্যেকে বঙ্গবন্ধুর বদান্যতায় প্রাণে বেঁচে গিয়েছিল। এসব দাগি রাজাকাররা পরবর্তীকালে জিয়ার হাত শক্তিশালী করেছে, বিএনপি গঠনে ভূমিকা রেখেছে। জিয়ার কল্যাণে দেশের রাষ্ট্রক্ষমতার শীর্ষবিন্দুতে বসেছিল। স্বাধীনতার শত্রুরা যদি ক্ষমতা দখল করতে পারে তাহলে দেশটির কী অবস্থা হতে পারে, তা আমরা দেখেছি ২১ বছর ধরে।
যে বদর নেতার ফাঁসির রায় বহাল রইল, সে ইসলামী ছাত্র সংঘের সভাপতি ছিল। তার নেতৃত্বে ১৯৭১ সালে আলবদর বাহিনী গঠিত হয়েছিল। তখন আলবদর বাহিনী ছিল সবচেয়ে দুর্ধর্ষ। এরা মুক্তিযুদ্ধের বিরুদ্ধে পাক হানাদারদের সঙ্গে যৌথ অভিযানে অংশ নিয়েছে। এরা বুদ্ধিজীবী হত্যারও নীলনকশা প্রণয়নকারী ছিল। আলবদরের সহযোগিতা ছাড়া পাকি সেনারা বাংলাদেশের এত মানুষ হত্যা করতে পারত না। ১৯৭১ সালের মুক্তিযুদ্ধ ১৯৬৫ সালের পাক-ভারতের মতো যুদ্ধ ছিল না। মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা গেরিলাযুদ্ধে পাক হানাদারদের পর্যুদস্ত করেছিল। একমাত্র আলবদর বাহিনী বাংলাদেশের নদী-নালা-খালবিল, বাড়িঘর, মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের আস্তানা, ঠিকানা চিনিয়ে দিয়েছে। আলবদর বাহিনীর জল্লাদরা শহীদ রুমীকে জাহানারা ইমামের কোল থেকে ছিনিয়ে নিয়েছে। কবি, সাংবাদিক সেলিনা পারভীনকে ঘর থেকে তুলে নিয়ে যায়। ১৪ ডিসেম্বরের মধ্যে শহীদুল্লাহ কায়সার, মুনীর চৌধুরীসহ অগনিত বুদ্ধিজীবীকে নিজামীর নেতৃত্বে উঠিয়ে নিয়ে রায়েরবাজারের বধ্যভূমিতে হত্যা করে। যিনি ছিলেন চোখের ডাক্তার তার চোখ উপড়ে ফেলা হয়েছিল, যিনি ছিলেন হৃদরোগ বিশেষজ্ঞ তার হৃৎপিণ্ড উপড়ে ফেলা হয়েছিল, যিনি ছিলেন দাঁতের ডাক্তার তার দাঁত তুলে ফেলা হয়েছিল। আর কবি, সাহিত্যিক, শিক্ষকদের নির্দয়ভাবে হাতের পাঞ্জা কেটে ফেলা হয়েছিল। এরা নাকি ইসলামের ধ্বজাধারী, এই ধ্বজাধারীরা মিথ্যা কথা বলে বুদ্ধিজীবীদের ঘর থেকে উঠিয়ে নিয়ে গেছে।
শহীদ বুদ্ধিজীবীদের রচনাবলি পড়ার সময় আমি বিস্মিত, স্তম্ভিত হয়েছি, কী সাংঘাতিক মেধাবী ছিলেন তারা। অনেকে বিশ্ব স্বীকৃত পণ্ডিত ছিলেন। এই দেশবরেণ্যদের হত্যা করা হয়েছে বাংলাদেশকে মেধাশূন্য করে দেয়ার জন্য। এ জন্যই তো এখন দেশে মৌলবাদবিরোধী আন্দোলন জমে ওঠে না। আলবদরের ঘাতকরা দেশ স্বাধীন হওয়ার পর চট করে অদৃশ্য হয়ে যায়, কেউ তাদের ধরতে পারেনি; এতই ধূর্ত জামায়াত-শিবিরের ঘাতকরা! আড়ালে আডালে থেকে এরা বঙ্গবন্ধু সরকারের বিরুদ্ধে প্রখর ধর্মীয় অপপ্রচার চালিয়েছে। তারপর জিয়ার আমলে তারা বুক টান করে তাদের খাস তালুকে ফিরে আসে। ২১ বছর পর্যন্ত এরা নির্বিচারে বাংলাদেশের ছাত্র-বুদ্ধিজীবী-শিক্ষক, মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের পায়ের রগ কেটেছে, হাতের কব্জি কেটেছে, মাথার খুলি চূর্ণ করেছে। এরা চট্টগ্রাম ও রাজশাহীতে পাকিস্তান আমলের মতো উপনিবেশ গড়ে তুলেছিল। চট্টগ্রামের শহীদ মিনারে কেউ ফুল দিতে পারত না শিবিরের অত্যাচারে। শেখ হাসিনা ক্ষমতায় ফিরে না এলে এত দিনে আলবদরের ঘাতক-নিজামীরা এ দেশকে পাক ওয়াতান বানিয়ে ফেলত। এত দিনে বাংলাদেশের শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানে 'পাকসার জমিন সাদবাদ' গাওয়া শুরু হয়ে যেত। বদর প্রধান, ঘাতক নিজামীর ফাঁসির রায় বহালের খবর পেয়ে সারা জাতি উল্লাসে ফেটে পড়েছে। তবে দুঃখ পেয়েছেন বেগম জিয়া ও তার সুজন-কুজন মার্কা সুশীল মজুমদাররা।
নিজামীর অপরাধের ফিরিস্তি প্রকাশ পেয়েছে বাংলাদেশের বিশেষ বিশেষ জাতীয় পত্রিকায়। সেটা নিয়ে চর্বিত চর্বন করতে চাই না। নিজামী যখন খালেদা জিয়ার মন্ত্রিসভার শিল্পমন্ত্রী ছিল, তখন অলৌকিকভাবে ১০ ট্রাক অস্ত্র এসে পৌঁছেছিল চট্টগ্রাম বন্দরে। এই ঘটনা নিয়ে তখন তুমুল আলোড়ন সৃষ্টি হয়েছিল। বাঙালির চক্ষু চড়কগাছ হয়েছিল, ১০ ট্রাক অস্ত্র, এটা কি মুখের কথা নাকি? কোন উদ্দেশ্যে ১০ ট্রাক অস্ত্র আনা হয়েছিল? বাংলাদেশের অস্তিত্ব বিনাশ করার জন্য? নিয়াজী রাও ফরমান আলীদের পুনঃ প্রতিষ্ঠিত করার জন্য? নাকি আরেকটি ১৫ আগস্টের জন্ম দেয়ার জন্য? এ ব্যাপারে এখনো সঠিক তদন্তের পরিসংখ্যান আমরা পাইনি। এর মোটিভ জানা দরকার। এই দেশদ্রোহী কর্মকাণ্ডের সঙ্গে যারা জড়িত তাদের বিচার হওয়া দরকার।
এ পর্যন্ত যে কজন শীর্ষস্থানীয় ঘাতকের ফাঁসি হয়েছে তাদের মধ্যে নিজামী পয়লা নম্বরের। কারণ সে জামায়াতের আমির। ১৯৭১ সালে নিজামী বলেছিল, 'আলবদর একটি প্রতিজ্ঞা। যেখানে তথাকথিত মুক্তিবাহিনী সেখানেই আলবদর। যেখানে দুষ্কৃতকারী সেখানেই আলবদর। ভারতীয় চরদের কাছে আলবদর সাক্ষাৎ আজরাইল।' এই একটি মাত্র বিবৃতির জন্য নিজামীর ফাঁসি হতে পারত। মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের সে 'তথাকথিত; 'ভারতীয় চর' এবং 'দুষ্কৃতকারী' বলেছে। এর চেয়ে বড় অপরাধ আর কী হতে পারে? শেখ হাসিনা আজ ক্ষমতায় আছেন বলেই এতবড় জল্লাদের বিচার হলো, না হলে এরা জিয়া ও তদীয় পতœী খালেদা জিয়ার ঘাড়ে চড়ে এ দেশকে ইমরান খানদের কাছে বিক্রি করে ফেলত।
বাংলাদেশের রাজনীতিকে নিজামীর মিথ্যাচারের পাপ কলুষিত করে ফেলেছে। ধর্মের আচকান গায়ে দিয়ে, জোব্বা পরে, পরস্ত্রীর পাশে দাঁড়িয়ে ফটো তুলতে এদের ধর্মীয় বিধানে আটকায় না। প্রতি মিনিটে এরা যত মিথ্যা কথা বলেছে, সমগ্র ইউরোপ এক বছরেও এত মিথ্যা কথা বলে না। এরা পাক দস্যুদের দস্যুবৃত্তি, নারী ধর্ষণ দেখেও ওদের পক্ষে হাদিস খাড়া করেছে। জামায়াত-শিবিরের পাণ্ডারা আজ ইসলামের মতো মানবতাবাদী, শান্তির ধর্মকে জঙ্গিবাদের ইশতেহারে পরিণত করেছে। ভাবখানা এমন যে, ইসলাম ওদের পৈতৃক সম্পত্তি।
রাজশাহীর বাগমারায় যখন বাংলা ভাইরা মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের গাছের ডালে ঝুলিয়ে হত্যা করেছে তখন নিজামী বলেছিল, 'বাংলাভাই বলে কেউ নেই। এসব মিডিয়ার সৃষ্টি।' এটা জ্বলজ্যান্ত মিথ্যা কথা না? পরে দেখা গেল বাংলা ভাইয়ের ফাঁসি হয়েছে তত্ত্বাবধায়ক সরকারের আমলে। একটা মিথ্যা প্রমাণিত হলেই তো যথেষ্ট। বিষ এক বালতি খাওয়ার প্রয়োজন হয় না, এক ফোঁটা খেলেই মানুষের মৃত্যু হয়।
নিজামী বলেছিল বাংলাদেশে যুদ্ধাপরাধী বলে কেউ নেই। এ কথা বলা আর দেশদ্রোহিতা করা সমান কথা। নিজামী-মুজাহিদের এই একটি ধৃষ্টতামূলক উক্তির জন্য আরো কয়েক বার ফাঁসি হওয়া দরকার।
বরাবরের মতো বেগম জিয়ার উকিলরা জল্লাদ নিজামীর পক্ষে সাফাই গাওয়ার জন্য আদালতে দাঁড়িয়েছেন। খন্দকার মাহবুব হোসেন কী বলেছেন শোনেন, 'আমার ক্লায়েন্ট নিজামী সাহেব যেভাবে নির্দেশ দেবেন সেভাবেই ব্যবস্থা নেব। আদালতে যে সাক্ষ্য-প্রমাণ উপস্থাপন করা হয়েছে তা সাজানো সাক্ষ্য। পাকিস্তানের সামরিক বাহিনীর যারা এ অপরাধে জড়িত ছিল তাদের বিচার না করে ছেড়ে দেয়া হয়েছে। তাদের সহযোগী হিসেবে আসামির মৃত্যুদণ্ড হতে পারে না।'
নিজামী সাহেব? আহারে! কত সম্মান, কত মধুর কণ্ঠে 'সাহেব' বলা হয়েছে। এরাও আবার মুক্তিযোদ্ধা সমাবেশ ডাকে। আদালত পাড়ায় বিএনপির উকিলদের অভব্যতা দেখে বাঙালি জাতি স্তম্ভিত হয়েছে। বিএনপিও একটি যুদ্ধাপরাধী দল। এই দলের সঙ্গে ৩০ লাখ শহীদের স্বজনদের কোনো আপস হবে না।

যানজটকে নিয়ে আর কত অবহেলা?

 
রাজধানীর মানুষ যে দুর্ভোগের শিকার প্রতিদিনই হচ্ছে সেটি হলো ভয়াবহ যানজট। যাতায়াত সমস্যা এখন নগরবাসীর জন্য দুঃস্বপ্ন হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে। স্কুলগামী শিক্ষার্থী থেকে শুরু করে চাকরিজীবী প্রতিটি মানুষকে প্রতিদিন চরম দুর্ভোগ পোহাতে হচ্ছে। এর উপর আর্থিক ক্ষতি তো আছেই। যানজট থেকে হাসপাতালের রোগী পর্যন্ত রেহাই পাচ্ছে না।
দৈনিক  খবরে বলা হয়, "যানজটে ক্ষতি প্রতিবছর ২০ হাজার কোটি টাকা"। 
প্রায় ২ কোটি মানুষের শহর ঢাকাকে দিন দিন অচল করে দিচ্ছে যানজট। কেড়ে নিচ্ছে কর্মব্যস্ত নগরবাসীর অনেক সময়। বিশেষজ্ঞদের মতে, রাজধানীতে যানজটের কারণে প্রতিদিন নষ্ট হচ্ছে প্রায় ৮২ লাখ কর্মঘণ্টা। রাজধানীতে ১২ কর্মঘণ্টার মধ্যে প্রায় ৭ ঘণ্টাই যানজটে আটকে থাকতে হয়।
অপর এক সমীক্ষা মতে, ক্ষতির পরিমাণ বেড়ে দাঁড়ায় ৩১ হাজার কোটি টাকা। আর সম্প্রতি হিসাব করেছে বিনিয়োগ বোর্ড (বিওআই)। 
তারা দেখিয়েছে, রাজধানীতে যানজটের কারণে বছরে অর্থনৈতিক ক্ষতি হচ্ছে প্রায় ১ লাখ কোটি টাকা। এ ক্ষতির কারণে মোট দেশজ উৎপাদন বা জিডিপি প্রবৃদ্ধি ৭ শতাংশ কম হচ্ছে। এভাবে আর্থিক ক্ষতি না হলে দেশের জিডিপি'র প্রবৃদ্ধি হতো ১৩ শতাংশ।
জানা গেছে, যদি ঢাকা শহর থেকে ট্র্যাফিক জ্যাম পুরোপুরি দূর করা সম্ভব হতো, তবে সরকারের শতকরা ৬ ভাগের বেশি জিডিপি প্রবৃদ্ধির যে টার্গেট, তা সহজেই অতিক্রম করা যেত। গবেষণায় বলা হয়, প্রতিবছর সারা দেশে ট্র্যাফিক জ্যামের কারণে ১২.৫৬ বিলিয়ন ডলার ক্ষতি হয়, যা জিডিপি'র শতকরা ৭ ভাগ। শুধুমাত্র রাজধানী থেকে যদি ট্র্যাফিক জ্যাম দূর করা যেত, তবে বর্তমান মাথাপিছু আয় ১৩১৪ ডলার থেকে বেড়ে ১৩৯২ ডলার হতো। 
অপরদিকে এক গবেষণায় দেখানো হয়েছে, যানজটের দুর্ভোগ নগরবাসীর জীবনী শক্তিকে ধীরে ধীরে নিঃশেষ করে দিচ্ছে। এমনকী নাগরিকদের মানসিক সমস্যাকেও বাড়িয়ে তুলছে! মানুষের মধ্যে বাড়ছে হতাশা, কমছে ধৈর্য্য। প্রতিনিয়ত যানজটের কারণে নগরবাসীর সহনশীলতা কমছে। অল্পতেই রেগে গিয়ে দুর্ব্যবহার করছে সহ-যাত্রীর সঙ্গে। মানুষের সহনশীলতা কমে আসার ফলে পারিবারিক কলহের সৃষ্টি হচ্ছে; এমনকি তালাকের মাত্রাও বেড়ে গেছে অনেকাংশে। 

, কালবিলম্ব না করে রাজধানীকে পরিকল্পিতভাবে গড়ে তোলার সমন্বিত উদ্যোগ নেয়া প্রয়োজন। রাজধানী থেকে মানুষের চাপ কমাতে হবে। প্রশাসনকে বিকেন্দ্রীকরণ করতে হবে। কিন্তু "চোরে না শোনে ধর্মের কাহিনী" প্রবাদ বাক্যই প্রতিফলিত হচ্ছে। নির্দিষ্ট মেয়াদে রাজধানীকে ঢেলে সাজানোর মহাপরিকল্পনা হাতে নেয়া হলেও মেয়াদ শেষে দেখা যায়, তার কিয়দংশও বাস্তবায়িত হয়নি। উল্টো মহাপরিকল্পনাকে থোড়াই কেয়ার করে অপরিকল্পিত কার্যক্রমই দ্রুত বাস্তবায়িত হচ্ছে। রাজধানীকে যেন কোনোভাবেই পরিকল্পনার ছকে বাঁধা এবং ভারমুক্ত করা যাচ্ছে না। সারাদেশের মানুষ প্রতিদিনই ঢাকামুখী হচ্ছে। প্রতিদিন গড়ে আড়াই হাজারেরও বেশি মানুষ প্রবেশ করছে। বছরে লাখ লাখ মানুষ স্থায়ীভাবে বসবাস শুরু করছে। 
প্রতি বর্গকিলোমিটারে প্রায় তিন হাজার মানুষ বাস করে। এই বিপুলসংখ্যক মানুষের চলাচলে পর্যাপ্ত ব্যবস্থা নেই। তাদের চলাচলের ব্যবস্থা করতে গিয়ে অপরিকল্পিতভাবে যেমন যানবাহন নামাতে হচ্ছে, তেমনি তা যথেষ্টও হয়ে উঠছে না। ফলে রাজধানী এক হ্যাপহ্যাজার্ড অবস্থার মধ্যে আবদ্ধ হয়ে পড়েছে। অসহনীয় ট্র্যাফিক জ্যাম সৃষ্টি হচ্ছে।
বলা হয়, একটি আদর্শ শহরে শতকরা ২৫ ভাগ রাস্তা থাকা প্রয়োজন। ঢাকা শহরে এর পরিমাণ মাত্র ৮ ভাগ। এই পরিমাণ রাস্তাও আবার বেদখল, অপরিকল্পিত পার্কিংসহ নানা অব্যবস্থাপনায় সঙ্কুচিত। তবে আমরা মনে করি, ৮ ভাগ রাস্তাকেও যদি পরিকল্পিতভাবে ব্যবহার করা যায়, তবে যানজট অধিকাংশই কমিয়ে ফেলা সম্ভব। সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্তৃপক্ষ এসব কথা যে আমলে নেয় না, তা রাজধানীর চিত্র দেখেই বোঝা যায়। প্রশ্ন হচ্ছে, অর্থনীতিতে যানজট যে ক্ষত হয়ে রয়েছে এবং বিপুল ক্ষতি করে চলেছে, তা সারানোর উদ্যোগ কেন নেয়া হচ্ছে না? সরকারের উন্নয়নমুখী রাজনীতির স্বার্থেই তো জরুরীভিত্তিতে যানজট নিরসন করা উচিত। বিস্ময়ের ব্যাপার হচ্ছে, সমস্যা চিহ্নিত হয়ে আছে, অথচ তা নিরসনের কোনো কার্যকর উদ্যোগ নেই। এমন পরিস্থিতি বিশ্বের কোথাও আছে কিনা আমাদের জানা নেই।
পাশাপাশি উল্লেখ্য, বাস্তবতার তিক্ত অভিজ্ঞতার আলোকে একথা এখন সর্বজনবিদিত, কেবল উড়ালসড়ক করে যানজটের সমাধান হওয়ার নয়; বরং তা যানজটকে আরো ঘনীভূত করেছে। অপরদিকে ঢাকার গণপরিবহনব্যবস্থা নেই বললেই চলে। ব্যক্তিগত পরিবহনই সর্বেসর্বা। গণপরিবহনের পাশাপাশি পাতাল নয়; মেট্রোরেল আনতে হবে, ঢাকার চারপাশে স্যাটেলাইট সিটি করে সহজ ট্রেন যোগাযোগ বাড়াতে হবে। সর্বোপরি ঢাকার জনসংখ্যা বিকেন্দ্রীকরণ করে ছড়িয়ে দিতে হবে। অর্থাৎ বিকেন্দ্রীকরণ করে সারা দেশে সুষমভাবে সরকারি প্রতিষ্ঠান ও কলকারখানা ছড়িয়ে দিতে হবে।

I would not call it liberal lending; I would reckless, irresponsible and possibly corrupt lending. As you also said, it was not a liberal vs conservative issue.

As far as we know, the last housing bubble of 2008 was mainly caused by reckless liberal lending. People with no credit history got housing loans. People who could not afford to buy house, got their dream house. I do not think this is a liberal vs conservative issue. Human greed and corruption what cause crisis..

United States of America, being a capitalist nation, requires conservative principles to flourish. Unfortunately, one of the two political parties follows socialist principles. That's why, conservative presidents have to be always retrogressive to undo whatever done by the liberal presidents prior to them. That's how checks and balances are maintained in the USA, and it's the best system among the worst on earth.

In reality, conservatism is a mental disorder. Conservatives are always back footed like ghosts. No progress in society has ever been brought about by them. All one needs is to look at the character of conservatives across history to understand how retrogressive they are. In recent history, they include people like Nixon, Regan, and Trump.

When I heard the Mayor yesterday - it reminded me of the "Baghdad Bob" on Iraqi state-TV just prior to Iraq-invasion. He was calming down Iraqi citizens' fear and apprehension by saying that: there is no American soldiers anywhere in Iraq, while we were watching hundreds of American tanks were rolling through the Iraqi airport road.
Now, the leaderships of the whole world have become Baghdad Bobs, and no one is telling the truth to the citizens of the world.
