The Hindu clowns in the pictures look like they are in India. Of course, some otherwise progressive Hindu and other kinds of non-Muslim Americans support Trump because of his anti-terrorist position.

Most people do not like the continuation of the status quo, and they want a change; for which, people are crossing over party lines this year.

You are still talking about republicans, which shows that - you are one of those low-information crowd, who get information from leftist media outlets, such as New York Times, MSNBC, CNN, etc. Naturally, you love Barak Obama policies, and that's what you want to continue with. So, Hilly-Billy is your best choice. Go for it.

Fortunately, that's not good enough for most people in the USA, and they want a change of leadership. Have you had a chance to review Trump Administration policies for USA?  Many be not, your head is now pre-occupied with personal issues; that's much more important to you than the interests of the country. Democrats always quote Bill Clinton era progress. Are you aware of his personal character issues? Think, man, think!

'এমপি অব দ্যা ইয়ার' মনোনয়ন পেলেন টিউলিপব্রিটেনে চলতি বছর 'এমপি অব দ্য ইয়ার'র বাছাই তালিকায় স্থান করে নিয়েছেন টিউলিপ সিদ্দিক। ব্রিটিশ পার্লামেন্ট সদস্যদের মধ্য থেকে প্রতি বছর সেরা এমপি নির্বাচিত করা হয় প্যাচওয়ার্ক ফাউন্ডেশনের উদ্যোগে। ডেভিড ক্যামেরন, জেরেমি করবিন, সাদিক খানের মতো প্রভাবশালী এমপিদের তালিকায় কোনো বাঙালি হিসেবে এবারই প্রথম বাছাই তালিকায় স্থান করে নিয়েছেন বঙ্গবন্ধুর ছোট মেয়ে শেখ রেহানার কন্যা টিউলিপ।  বৃহস্পতিবার  ব্রিটিশ পার্লামেন্টে স্পিকার চূড়ান্তভাবে নির্বাচিত এমপির নাম ঘোষণা করবেন। চুড়ান্ত বিজয়ীর নাম এখনো জানা যায়িনি। টিউলিপ সিদ্দিক বুধবার এক টুইটবার্তায় লিখেন আমি অনেক সম্মানিত বোধ করছি যে, আমাকে 'এমপি অব দ্য ইয়ার'র বাছাই তালিকায় রাখা হয়েছে। কিছুদিন আগে লন্ডনের জনপ্রিয় পত্রিকা ঈভনিং স্ট্যান্ডার্ডের দৃষ্টিতে এ বছর লন্ডনের শীর্ষ প্রভাবশালী ব্যক্তিত্বদের তালিকায়ও স্থান করে নিয়েছিলেন টিউলিপ। প্রথমবারের মতো এমপি নির্বাচিত হয়ে স্থান করে নিয়েছেন করভিন এর ছায়া মন্ত্রী সভায়। পার্লামেন্টের সেরা ৭ বক্তব্যের বক্তা হিসাবেও এর আগে নির্বাচিত হয়েছিলেন তিনি।
শেখ রেহানা ও শফিক সিদ্দিকী দম্পতির কন্যা টিউলিপ লন্ডনের মিচহামে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। তার শৈশব কেটেছে বাংলাদেশ, ভারত ও সিঙ্গাপুরে। ১৫ বছর বয়স থেকে তিনি হ্যাম্পস্টেড অ্যান্ড কিলবার্নে বসবাস করছেন। সেখানেই স্কুলে পড়াশোনা করেছেন এবং ওই এলাকার কাউন্সিলর হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন। লন্ডনের কিংস কলেজ থেকে পলিটিক্স, পলিসি ও গভর্নমেন্ট বিষয়ে তার স্নাতকোত্তর ডিগ্রি রয়েছে। মাত্র ১৬ বছর বয়সে লেবার পার্টির সদস্য হওয়া টিউলিপ অ্যামনেস্টি ইন্টারন্যাশনাল গ্রেটার লন্ডন অথরিটি এবং সেইভ দ্য চিলড্রেনের সঙ্গেও কাজ করেছেন। ২০১০ সালে ক্যামডেন কাউন্সিলে প্রথম বাঙালি নারী কাউন্সিলর নির্বাচিত হন তিনি। ২০১৫ সালে তিনি ব্রিটিশ পার্লামেন্টের সদস্য নির্বাচিত হন।

While conservatism is a natural human trait, liberalism is a mental abberation that occurrs from social, environmental, and family conditions. In that, liberals tend to judge things with emotion, and conservative looks for logic to judge things.

Hillary, being a super-liberal, lost all ability to judge things with logical means. She has taken so many illogical steps even before being elected that, she will face impeachment  procedure right after the elction, if she ever gets elected. Her husband did slightly better than her, being impeached after the end of his term at least. So, you are selecting the right person for president. Go for it…..

I wonder whether you really read Friedman's column that I had suggested.
If you did then did you notice how many ways he was questioning Hillary's flaws?
I guess you might not be able to show any balanced write up from your news sources (possibly FOX and such).
Hillary certainly has issues that I am very unhappy with. But she is the most qualified, liberal, and sane candidate out there.

"Crossing over party lines" - it's so one way. Do you know why many republican senator and congressman declared not to vote for their candidate?
I guess you missed the news that Bush Sr will vote for Hillary. What a shame!

Seriously, what kind of policy we expect from his team ( full of Steve Bannon sort of extreme right wing people)? A policy to unite all races?
Will the world be a more livable place?  I don't think so.

  • এ দেশ 'ডান্ডি' আর 'মালু'দেরও– এ রকম একটি শিরোনাম ঠিক করেছিলাম লেখাটির। যদিও পরে বদলে ফেলেছি। খুব কষ্ট হচ্ছিল শিরোনামে 'ডান্ডি' আর 'মালু' শব্দ দুটো রাখতে। কেন এমন শিরোনাম ভেবেছিলাম তার ব্যাখ্যা দিচ্ছি।

    আমাদের চট্টগ্রামের কথ্য ভাষায় হিন্দু ধর্মাবলম্বীদের আড়ালে অপমান করার জন্য একটি শব্দ আলাদা করে রেখে দেওয়া আছে। সেই শব্দটি হল 'ডান্ডি'। স্কুলে শিক্ষক-শিক্ষিকাদের কখনও এ শব্দটি ব্যবহার করতে শুনিনি। তবে খেলার মাঠে বা আড্ডায় এর ব্যবহার দেখেছি। একবার এক মুসলমান সহপাঠী হিন্দু ধর্মাবলম্বী এক সহপাঠীকে 'ডান্ডি' বলে ডেকেছিল। আমার সেই হিন্দু বন্ধুর চেহারায় সেদিন অপমানের যে ছাপ পড়েছিল তা এত বছর পরও মনে আছে।

    বড় হওয়ার পর খারাপ লাগত কেন শুধুমাত্র অন্য ধর্মের হওয়ার কারণে একদল মানুষকে অপমান করার জন্য আমরা আলাদা করে একটি শব্দ তৈরি করেছি। তারপর যখন ভিন্ন শহরের বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে পড়তে গিয়ে বিভিন্ন জেলার বন্ধু তৈরি হল তখন আবিষ্কার করলাম, অন্য জায়গার মানুষও একই কাজ করছে। 'ডান্ডি'র একটি প্রতিশব্দ শিখলাম–'মালু'।

    তখন আরেকটি কথা ভেবে আমি আরও বিভ্রান্ত হয়ে গেলাম। আমাদের প্রজন্ম বড় হয়েছে 'বহুব্রীহি', 'অয়োময়', 'কোথাও কেউ নেই' এর মতো দুর্দান্ত সব নাটক দেখে। এ নাটকগুলোতে সমাজের অনেক অসঙ্গতি প্রতীকী অর্থে এসেছে। কিন্তু কখনও আমি 'মালু', 'ডান্ডি' এসব শব্দের ব্যবহার সংলাপে পাইনি। আমি বলছি না নাটক বানিয়ে হিন্দু ধর্মাবলম্বীদের অপমান করতে। কিন্তু বাস্তব জীবনে আমাদের দেশে হিন্দু ধর্মাবলম্বী নাগরিকরা যে প্রতিনিয়ত অপমান আর নির্যাতনের শিকার হচ্ছেন সেই গল্পগুলো নাটকে নিয়ে আসা মানে সমস্যাটি স্বীকার করে নেওয়া। আর সেটি না নিয়ে আসা মানে সমস্যা চেপে রাখা। কেন আমরা এই ব্যাপারগুলো সব সময় লুকিয়ে রাখি? কেন আমরা স্বীকার করি না জাতি হিসেবে আমাদের অর্জনের পাশাপাশি অনেক ব্যর্থতাও আছে? এর মধ্যে একটি হল ইসলাম-ভিন্ন অন্য ধর্মাবলম্বীদের উপর নির্যাতন আর আক্রমণ।

    একটি সমাজ কতটুকু নারীবান্ধব সেটি মাপার একটি উপায় সম্ভবত হল রাতে নারী নিরাপদে একা বাইরে চলাফেরা করতে পারে কি না। সেই সমাজ কতটুকু সভ্য সেটি মাপার আরেকটি উপায় খুব সম্ভবত ইসলাম-ভিন্ন অন্য ধর্মাবলম্বীদের মানুষদের অপমান করার শব্দভাণ্ডার কতটা সমৃদ্ধ!

    আমি তাই ঠিক করেছি নোংরা ধর্মান্ধ মানুষদের কাছ থেকে তাদের গালিগুলো 'হাইজ্যাক' করে ভদ্র সমাজে ব্যবহার করা শুরু করব। তখন সবাই জেনে যাবে গোপনে এসব নোংরা মানুষ কী কী শব্দ ব্যবহার করে। খুব জানার ইচ্ছা, সেই কুৎসিত চিন্তার মানুষগুলো যখন তাদের গোপনে ব্যবহার করার জন্য রেখে দেওয়া শব্দভাণ্ডার পত্রিকার লেখার শিরোনামে দেখবে, তখন তাদের কেমন লাগে?

    ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়ার নাসিরনগর, দত্তপাড়া, ঘোষপাড়া, গাংকুলপাড়া, মহাকালপাড়া, কাশিপাড়া, নমশুদ্রপাড়া, মালিপাড়া ও শীলপাড়ায় ৩০ অক্টোবর কমপক্ষে ১৫টি মন্দির ভাঙা হয়েছে। হিন্দু সম্প্রদায়ের কমপক্ষে দেড়শ বাড়িতে ভাঙচুর করা হয়েছে। এসব জায়গায় হিন্দু ধর্মাবলম্বী শিশু-কিশোর-কিশোরীরা কত অল্প বয়সে না জেনে গেল এই গ্রাম তাদের নয়! এই দেশ তাদের নয়! তারা কোথায় যাবে? কেনই বা তাদের যেতে হবে? তাদের অপরাধ কী? হিন্দু পরিবারে জন্মেছে এটিই এ দেশে আক্রান্ত হওয়ার জন্য যথেষ্ট?

    যতই বড় হোক তারা কি কোনোদিন ছোটবেলার এ দিনটির কথা ভুলে যাবে? বড় হয়ে কলেজে, বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে বা চাকরিতে যখনই কেউ তাদের 'ডান্ডি' বা 'মালু' বলে অপমান করবে তখনই তাদের ছোটবেলার এই দুঃস্বপ্ন ফিরে আসবে। এই শিশুরা কি কোনোদিন স্বাভাবিক হতে পারবে? যার অস্তিত্বই তার অপরাধ, যার জন্মই তার প্রধান অন্যায় সে কোথায় পালাবে? নিজের কাছে থেকে কি পালিয়ে যাওয়া সম্ভব?

    মজার ব্যাপার হল, আগে এ ধরনের কাজ যারা করত তারা সবসময় বিএনপি-জামায়াতের প্রশ্রয়ে থাকত। আগ্রহীরা এর আগে বিভিন্ন বছর ঘটা আহমদিয়া সম্প্রদায়ের ওপর আক্রমণের ইতিহাস পড়ে দেখতে পারেন। এবার যারা করেছে সেই আহলে-সুন্নত ওয়াল জামায়াত হল 'ধর্মনিরপেক্ষ' রাজনৈতিক দল আওয়ামী লীগের রাজনৈতিক সঙ্গী। অনেকে অবাক হলেও আমি এতে বিন্দুমাত্র অবাক হইনি।

    একটি জিনিস সবসময় সবাইকে মনে রাখতে হবে– বিএনপি-জামায়াত ছিল আমাদের ইতিহাসের কৃত্রিম বুদবুদ। একটি দেশের রাজনীতি দীর্ঘমেয়াদে আবর্তিত হয় সেই সব রাজনৈতিক দল ঘিরে যাদের সৃষ্টি সময়ের প্রয়োজনে, জনতার অংশগ্রহণে, ক্যান্টনমেন্টে সরকারের টাকা খরচ করে নয়।

    এখন যেহেতু বিএনপি-জামায়াতের বুদবুদ ফেটে গেছে, যারা এক ধর্মের শ্রেষ্ঠত্বভিত্তিক রাজনীতিতে বিশ্বাস করে তাদের টিকে থাকার একটিই উপায়। সেটি হল: কোনো একটি তৃণমূলে বিস্তৃত রাজনৈতিক দলের দখল নেওয়া। আওয়ামী লীগের ভেতরে এখন সেই আদর্শের সংঘাত চলছে।

    এই যে আমরা এখন ভিন্নধর্মাবলম্বীদের উপর নির্যাতন দেখছি সেটি হল এক ধর্মের শ্রেষ্ঠত্বভিত্তিক রাজনীতিতে বিশ্বাসীদের 'রাফখাতা'। এটি তাদের একটি বড় যুদ্ধের প্রস্তুতিপর্ব। এই যুদ্ধ প্রতি যুগে হয়েছে। পঞ্চাশের দশকে আওয়ামী লীগ যখন আওয়ামী মুসলিম লীগ থেকে ধর্মনিরপেক্ষ আওয়ামী লীগ হয়েছিল তখন এই সংঘাত দেখা গেছে। একাত্তরে তো আমাদের একটি রক্তক্ষয়ী যুদ্ধ জিততে হয়েছে এ রকম ধারণা ঝেঁটিয়ে বিদায় করার জন্য।

    কিন্তু দুই দশকের মিলিটারি শাসনে এসব ধারণা আবার মাথাচাড়া দিয়ে উঠেছে। শাহবাগ আন্দোলন আমাদের অনেক বড় একটি কাজ খুব কম সময়ে করে দিয়েছে, তা হল সব প্রজন্মের জন্য মুক্তিযুদ্ধের আদর্শ আর চেতনা 'রিভিশন' দিয়ে দেওয়া।

    কিন্তু অশুভ শক্তি বার বার তাদের শক্তি পরখ করে দেখে। তার কিছুদিন পর পর অল্প অল্প ছোবল দিয়ে দেখে কখন একটি ধর্মনিরপেক্ষ, নারীবান্ধব, উদার, গণতান্ত্রিক, প্রগতিশীল সমাজ তাদের সবচেয়ে দুর্বল আর অলস মুহূর্তে আছে। যেদিন তারা আমাদের সবচেয়ে দুর্বল মুহূর্তে পাবে সেদিন দেবে মরণ-কামড়। আমাদের ইতিহাসের গায়ে সেই কামড়ের দাগ আছে।

    কাজেই একটি ধর্মনিরপেক্ষ, প্রগতিশীল সমাজ কোনো দূরের লক্ষ নয়, কিংবা নির্বাচনী শ্লোগান নয়; এটি একটি জীবন-পদ্ধতি। এটি পৃথিবীকে শুভদৃষ্টিতে দেখার চশমা। আমাদের সবসময় সেটি পরা থাকতে হবে আর শ্যেনদৃষ্টিতে তাকিয়ে বুঝতে হবে কোথায় কখন কী হচ্ছে।

    ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া আর ছাতকের ঘটনা আসলে আমাদের সমস্যা নয়। এটি আরও বড় আর ভয়ংকর অসুখের খুব ছোট লক্ষ্মণ। এটি হল ধর্মনিরপেক্ষ রাজনীতিতে এক ধর্মের শ্রেষ্ঠত্বভিত্তিক রাজনীতি প্রতিষ্ঠা করার অশুভ উদ্যোগ। আমাদের সতর্ক থাকতে হবে যেন সেই কুৎসিত মনের মানুষগুলো সফল না হয়। তাদের দেখিয়ে দিতে হবে এ দেশ সবার, 'ডান্ডি' আর 'মালু'দেরও।
