I knew Awami League will tell us that these killers are infiltrators from Shibir and Chhatra Dal. The question is - why Awami League (AL) sheltered Chhatra Shibir cadres in the Chhatra League. These are not ordinary cadres; these are well known thugs. Why they were not disowned by AL? I know - Chhatra League wants to use these thorns to take out other thorns, which is mafia politics. History tells us – if you preserve thorns long enough in your disposal, you will one day fall on them. In 1960s, we saw NSF terrorists terrorizing school campuses on behalf of Muslim League; Chhatra Shibir has been doing the same on behalf of Jamat since Pakistani period. But, none of these terrorists has been able to garner any tangible public support or sympathy towards these parties; if anything, their heinous acts exposed the ugliness under the veils of their godfathers, the so called political leaderships. AL should have known this, but – they didn't. I have no faith in AL or any other political party leadership in Bangladesh. Leaders of both major parties lack political talent, which will lead to many such blunders, and push the country into dictatorship again and again. The perpetrators are caught red-handed; there are no excuses for not bringing them to justice. No one can bring back this innocent kid, but, at least, AL can show some moral legitimacy by giving exemplary punishment to these thugs to prevent future loss of innocent lives. Jiten Roy

Nurul had a dream: His son would complete his studies, get a job and support the family. But that dream has shattered when he heard his son was involved in the killing of Bishwajit, said Noore Alam's cousin Mir Gaffar Ali. "For whom did I work so hard all my life? I pulled rickshaw and worked as a day laborer to support his education. But all my efforts have gone in vain. My son has gone astray," said Nurul, adding that nothing could get any sadder than this. Gaffar Ali said they came to know about Noore Alam's involvement in the killing through the media. He added he was not sure if Noore Alam was in student politics. Meanwhile, Zohra Khatun, mother of another alleged killer Emdadul, has been crying since she saw on TV her son beating Bishwajit with an iron rod, said Emdadul's cousin Akhtaruzzaman. "I knew my son to be good. I never thought he could be involved in any wrongdoing," Zohra was quoted as saying at her Jessore house. We know from history Mujib himself was a muscleman of Suhrowardy. These young people are only following the footsteps of Awami's father of the nation! Please blame the fascist father's tradition of lathial and golabazi and opportunism in politics (in 1971 Mujib and his family remained under the protection of Pakistan army). Don't blame the children. Mujib's fascist fever now spread in textbooks, in Chatro League cadre training and in the head of the grown up mujibbadis. They attack people, they are loud in talk shows, they steal money from stock market, from banks, from Padma Bridge project. You can not even protest against injustice. You can not even have a peaceful demonstration. It was Mujib who was found to throw a chair that hit Shahed Ali, the speaker of the provincial Assembly that caused his death. In 1975 did Mujib think at least once the limits of his golabazi and opportunism in politics and when he was falling to the ground?

সেই রাতে টিভির পর্দায় যখন দেখলাম একটি যুবককে ঘিরে ধরে পাঁচ-সাতজন যুবক রড দিয়ে বেদম পেটাচ্ছে, চকচকে চাপাতি দিয়ে কোপাচ্ছে অনবরত আর রক্তাক্ত শরীর নিয়ে অসহায়ের মতো সেই আক্রান্ত যুবক আশ্রয়ের জন্য রাস্তার পাশের দোকানের বন্ধ দরজায় করাঘাত করছে, চিৎকার করে বলছে, 'আমি হিন্দু, আমি বিশ্বজিৎ দাস, আমাকে বাঁচাও_ আমি দর্জির কাজ করি।
' কিন্তু তার সে কথায় কেউ কর্ণপাত না করে জান্তব উল্লাসে তাকে আঘাতে আঘাতে নিস্তেজ করে ফেলছে_ তখন সেই মুহূর্তে আমি ওই সন্ধ্যারাতে আমার বেডরুমের বিছানায় গিয়ে আছড়ে পড়েছি। সারাটা রাত ছটফট করেছি, মনে হয়েছে ওই রডের বাড়ি, ওই চাপাতির হিংস্র কোপ আমার শরীরে পড়ছে, আমাকে ক্ষতবিক্ষত-রক্তাক্ত করেছে_ মনে হয়েছে আমিই ওই বিশ্বজিৎ দাশ_ জীবিকার প্রয়োজনে সংঘাত-সংক্ষুব্ধ পরিস্থিতির ভেতর দিয়েও ভয়ে ভয়ে রাস্তায় বেরিয়ে আক্রান্ত হয়ে গেলাম। একত্রিশ বছর আগে এই দিনে আমার মাতৃবিয়োগ হয়েছিল। কিন্তু ওই দিন খুনি-আক্রান্ত রক্তাক্ত আমি যেন আমার প্রয়াত মায়ের অশ্রুসিক্ত চোখ দেখতে পাচ্ছিলাম। শরীয়তপুরের নড়িয়ার গণ্ডগ্রামের বাসিন্দা বিশ্বজিতের বিলাপরত মায়ের আর্তচিৎকার আর একাত্তরের ডিসেম্বরের এই দিনে অবরুদ্ধ নগরীতে অসহায়ভাবে প্রাণত্যাগ করা আমার প্রাণপ্রিয় বোনের জন্য আমার মায়ের বিপন্ন ক্রন্দন যেন একইভাবে ধ্বনিত হচ্ছিল।
আমি এখন অনেক কিছুই বুঝি না। যারা বিশ্বজিৎকে নির্মমভাবে হত্যা করছে তাদের সকলের নাম-পরিচয় সচিত্রভাবে প্রকাশিত হলো পত্রিকায়, সাংবাদিকরা তাদের নাম-ধাম সবই জানল আর পুলিশের এজাহারে তাদেরকে চিহ্নিত করা হলো 'অজ্ঞাতনামা' বলে! পুলিশের দায়ের করা এই মামলার মাজেজা আমি বুঝি না। পুলিশ শিবিরের হাতে মার খায় অথচ তাদের ধরতে পারে না, শিবিরের জঙ্গিরা বোমা ফাটায়, গাড়ি ভাঙে, বাসে আগুন লাগায় অথচ তাদের চিনতে পারে না, তাদের নামে সুনির্দিষ্ট মামলা করা সম্ভব হয় না_ পুলিশের এই সক্ষম-অক্ষমতার কারণ আমি বুঝতে পারি না। মনে হয়, তাহলে এ পুলিশ কার? যার হাতে রাজদণ্ড, তার? তাহলে এ পুলিশ বিশ্বজিতের নয়? আমার নয়? আমাদের নয়?
আমাদের স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী একজন সুপণ্ডিত, দক্ষ আমলা ছিলেন। প্রশাসনের বিভিন্ন স্তর অতিক্রম করে আমলাতন্ত্রের সর্বোচ্চ ধাপেও উপনীত হয়েছেন_ তিনি রাজনীতি করেছেন, সাধারণ মানুষের রাজনীতি। তিনি নির্বাচন করেছেন, বারংবার কারা যন্ত্রণা ভোগ করেছেন_ পার হয়েছেন ভয়াবহ শারীরিক নির্যাতনও। তিনি স্বহস্তে স্বাক্ষর করে যে সুবিশাল গ্রন্থটি আমাকে তাঁর স্নেহের নিদর্শন হিসেবে উপহার দিয়েছেন সেই 'জেল থেকে লেখা বাংলাদেশ' গ্রন্থে তিনি পুলিশ সম্পর্কে বিভিন্ন পৃষ্ঠায় তাঁর অভিব্যক্তির কথা প্রকাশ করেছেন। কারণ তিনি পুলিশের নিয়ন্ত্রক থেকেছেন পেশাগত জীবনে, ঈর্ষণীয় মেধার কারণে পুলিশি মামলার বিধিমালাও তাঁর ঠোঁটস্থ। তাই বিনীতভাবে তাঁর কাছ থেকে পাঠ নিতে চাই_ বিশ্বজিতের হত্যাযজ্ঞের ব্যাপারে প্রকাশ্য এবং প্রকাশিত জড়িতরা কী করে 'অজ্ঞাতনামা' হলো? কোন বিধি বলে? যাদের গ্রেফতার করতে পুলিশের পক্ষে চবি্বশ ঘণ্টাও লাগার কথা নয় তারা কেমন করে অজ্ঞাতনামা হয়ে যায়?
শ্রদ্ধাভাজন মহীউদ্দীন ভাই তথা মাননীয় স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী, পুলিশের ভাবমূর্তি, সরকারের ভাবমূর্তি, গণতন্ত্রের ভাবমূর্তি, আইনের শাসনের ভাবমূর্তি, মুক্তিযুদ্ধের ভাবমূর্তি রক্ষার মহান দায়িত্বের একাংশ আপনার ওপরও বর্তায়। আমি কায়মনোবাক্যে কামনা করি, এ ক্ষেত্রে আপনার ভূমিকা নিশ্চয়ই এমন হবে না যা থেকে জামায়াত-শিবির কিংবা আন্দোলনের নামে নৈরাজ্য সৃষ্টিকারী মহল ফায়দা উঠাতে পারে। মাননীয় স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী, আপনি নিশ্চয়ই আমার সঙ্গে একমত হবেন যে, এই নির্মম ঘটনা যুদ্ধাপরাধীদের রক্ষাকারী অপশক্তির আত্মরক্ষার ক্ষেত্র প্রস্তুত করবে, যদি সরকার এ ক্ষেত্রে কঠোর এবং যথাযথ ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ না করে। প্রতিপক্ষকে প্রতিরোধ করার প্রক্রিয়া প্রহার নয়, বেআইনি অস্ত্রের সদম্ভ আস্ফালন নয়, মানবতার বহ্ন্যুৎসবও নয় এবং আইন নিজের হাতে তুলে নেওয়াও নয়।
আমি আবেগাক্রান্ত তাই মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রীকে বিনীতভাবে নিবেদন করি, আপনি দায়িত্ব গ্রহণের পর ছাত্রলীগের প্রতি নির্দেশ দিয়েছিলেন জ্ঞানার্জনে আত্মনিয়োগ করার জন্য। কিন্তু আপনি কি হিসাব করে দেখবেন, এই চার বছরে ছাত্রলীগের সাইনবোর্ডে কতগুলো ঘটনা ঘটেছে যা আপনার সরকারের ভাবমূর্তি ম্লান করেছে? মাননীয় প্রধানমন্ত্রী আপনি রবীন্দ্র অনুরক্ত বিধায় কবিগুরুর একটি কবিতার দুটি চরণ উদ্ধৃত করি :
'যাহারা তোমার বিষাইছে বায়ু, নিভাইছে তব আলো,
তুমি কি তাদের ক্ষমা করিয়াছ, তুমি কি বেসেছ ভালো?'
