জিয়াউর রহমানকে কর্নেল তাহেরের খুনি হিসেবে সাক্ষী দেওয়ার প্রতিবাদে শুক্রবার বেলা পৌনে একটার দিকে নয়াপল্টনে স্কাউট মার্কেটের সামনে এই কুশপুতুল পোড়ানোর ঘটনা ঘটে।
কোট পরানো কুশপুতুলটির মাথার স্থানে মওদুদের আলোকচিত্র এবং বুকে 'জিয়াকে খুনি হিসেবে সাক্ষী দানকারী দালাল মওদুদের বিচার চাই' লেখা দেখা গেছে।
কুশপুতুল পোড়ানো শেষে 'মওদুদের দুই গালে, জুতা মারো তালে তালে' স্লোগান দিতে দিতে কর্মীরা ঘটনাস্থল ত্যাগ করে।
উল্লেখ্য, গত ২০ মে কর্নেল তাহের হত্যা মামলার পূর্ণাঙ্গ রায় প্রকাশিত হয়। ওই রায়ে বলা হয়, ট্রাইব্যুনাল গঠনের অনেক আগেই জেনারেল জিয়াউর রহমান কর্নেল তাহেরের মৃত্যুদণ্ড প্রদানে মনস্থির করেন।

বাংলাদেশের সামগ্রিক রাজনৈতিক অস্থিরতা নিয়ে পুরো ব্রিটেনে সভা, সমাবেশ, মিছিল চলছিল গত প্রায় দু বছর ধরে। দেশে কোনো সংকট তৈরি হলেই ব্রিটেনে বসবাসরত বাঙালিরা জেগে ওঠেন। এ দৃশ্য নতুন নয়। দেশে অস্থিরতা সৃষ্টি হলে তার ব্যথা অনুভব করেন এখানে বসবাসরত বাঙালিরা। আলোচনা-সমালোচনায় মুখর হয়ে ওঠেন।
Only extremely stupid people will be impressed by the so called science in the scriptures. Science is not belief in certain facts but deals with process of finding the truth. Hence tit bits of sundry facts here and there some true due to good imagination and mostly foolish does not make scriptures like koran compatible with science. Can any one get even a single patent (new invention) based on any sura in koran ? Has any one got new invention based on koran ? It is always interpretation of ambiguous writing and deriving the meaning only after scientists find some thing by rigorous process. There has to be process explained as to how the truth is arrived and not just publication of some facts. This process should be repeatable and true under all circumstances. Since no process is explained no scriptures can compete with science. Just books of imagination like science fiction does not make them scientific books. Even Arabian Nights mention pass word protected caves and flying carpets. Can any one say they are surprised how it is compatible with modern day computer software while pass word protecting data ? or aeroplanes ? Was Arabian nights written by god ? This whole soap opera only shows only ignorance of the people who are impressed by so called science in scriptures. They should be re-educated in scientific temper. There are times when India getting such contracts make sense. This is one of those cases. India has been requesting BD government to allow it to transport goods to eastern India. It seems this is part of that plan.
As far as India-phobia is concern, it does exist. Similarly Indians also have "Bangla-phobia". It is clearly seen in many of their policies and practices. As I said before these two relatively friendly countries have ONE major issues. Which is how to share water.
Rest can be solved within six months. However India seems forever unwilling to take progressive steps to make it happen. We had high hope with India many times (last time after BAL was elected and government was working with Tista water issue) and India burst our hopes most of those times.
So while we should not be denying the fact that, India-phobia exists. At the same time, we should point out it is failed Indian policies which causes most of such feelings. It is good to remind all of us that, all of India's neighbors share this "Phobia". You can talk to people from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan and you will get similar feedback.
As I said, once India realize it has to lead the region than bully the region, we can live harmoniously.

I have been scratching my head to find out what's wrong in the tender notice. I could not find anything unusual there. It seems like - India is building a container port in Narayongonj; nothing wrong there. They are seeking tender bids; nothing wrong there either. Then, why is it generating so much anxiety among some people? Then I realized - oh, yes – it must be the ghost of our past Pakistani mindset, the fear of India (India-phobia), still haunting many Bangladeshis.Let me ask a question - who will build Padma Bridge? Must be built with funds from some foreign governments. Let say it is Japanese or South Korean. There will be ads for tender bids in their own country to contract out works. It's like when USA does rebuilding works, it hires their own companies to do so. The question is - would that be as worrisome to these people as it is with this particular case? I don't think so; won't you agree? This is what I called India-phobia. It's still at work, especially, among BNP/Jamat supporters.
