[ALOCHONA] Ghulam Azam - a leader in Language Movement

These are facts, no fiction!

As a student leader of the Dhaka University Professor Ghulam Azam was directly involved with our Language movement from the very beginning of the independence of Pakistan from the British. He was General Secretary of Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU).

For the cause of language he was arrested on March 11 1948 from T.T Office along with 10 to 12 students. He is the man who presented the Historic Memorandum to the then Prime Minister of the Pakistan Mr. Liakat Ali Khan on Nov 27 1948 at the Gymnesium ground, Dhaka on behalf of the students of the Dhaka University.

In 1946-47 he became the General Secretary of Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall, polling the highest votes. Twice he was elected General Secretary of DUCSU ( Dhaka University Central Students' Union) in 1947-48 and 1948-49. He was the first DUCSU G.S. in the post Independent era.

Some people wanted to vilify Azam, but, surely they do not want accept his contribution in Language Movement, which seeded the Independence movement.

Lets set the record straight!

RE: [ALOCHONA] Re: Should we ignore it as a mere change of color?

As far as we know, the two colours in the Bangladesh flag are green and red and the Bangladesh passport resembles the green color of the flag.

Paki Lover Avi,
If u have objection with Rajakar, I can call u "Paki Lover". Hope u r happy now.
You are a such wrongheaded worthless person, you have no quality to be a Rajakar.
You guy who still love Pakis we should call" Jollad" You know very well why you are called a Rajakar or Paki Lover. Do u need reason?
A rajakar like you, have no right to comment whether we should or should not change
our passport's color. We like Indian/India because we got independence by the help of
great lady Indira Gandhi. We dislike Pakistan/Rajakar because they killed 3000 thousand
Bengalis in 1971, They raped our 200 thousand mother sisters. Should we still bear a passport same as Pakistani passport color??
You are a insane and worthless person.

I m really lost as I don't understand the reaons why should we hurl at each other by labeling as rajakar. does it insult anyone? or feels proud of being rajakari's rajakar?

[ALOCHONA] Razzaq admits failure in rice procurement

Razzaq admits failure in rice procurement

Dhaka, July 05 (bdnews24.com)—Food minister Abdur Razzaq said Sunday the government's inability to procure rice from farmers due to lack of storage space was a failure of his ministry.

Razzaq regretted not being able to pay farmers for their produce. "It is a failure of my six-month tenure," he said in an uncommon admission. "The government has no options, we cannot buy more rice because there is no room left in the silos," Razzaq told reporters at his office at the secretariat.

There was a danger of farmers moving away from rice cultivation if the problem persisted, he said. "But we are working to ensure that does not happen."

Razzaq also said the government's system of procuring rice from farmers needed changing because it currently required the grain to have a maximum moisture level of 14 percent, which was almost impossible for most farmers to achieve.

"The existing policy is faulty because no food grains are accepted at any government silos without this minimum moisture level," he said. "For this reason it is not possible to accept rice directly from farmers, therefore the government deals with mill owners."

Razzaq said in future the government would ensure that 50 to 60 percent of rice procured would come directly from farmers. He said 180,000 tonnes of rice is currently being stored in government silos.

[ALOCHONA] Protesters clash with police in front of Indian HC

Protesters clash with police in front of Indian HC

Over two dozens of protestors including women Sunday tried to gate crash the Indian High Commission office in Dhaka demanding suspension of the cross- border Tipaimukh Dam project.(BSS)

Police and witnesses said the incident erupted a brief clash with police, leaving half a dozen injured.

They said some 30 protestors belonging to little known left- leaning youth group "Lamp Post" tried to enter into the high commission complex at posh Gulshan area, chanting slogans also demanding withdrawal of Indian High Commissioner Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty and protesting "killings of Bangladeshis" in frontier villages by the Border Security Force (BSF).

"Extra policemen immediately rushed to the scene as the protestors clashed with the on-duty policemen and security guards using their placards as sticks when police retaliated with batons," police sub-inspector Rafiqul Islam, who was familiar with the situation, told BSS.

He said the protestors fled the scene while police arrested two of their leaders Ashish Koraia and Golam Mohammad Prince. The clash also left three of the policemen injured.

A police spokesman later said a case was filed against 30 people including the two arrested leaders for their "attempts to intrude into the high commission using force and prevent policemen from discharging their duties".

Indian High Commission officials declined to comment on the incident..

[ALOCHONA] Govt stands seriously damaged by unthinking comments

Commentary

PM, please rein in your babbling colleagues

Govt stands seriously damaged by unthinking comments

While the world struggles against swine flu our ruling party, the Awami League, is being debilitated by the 'mouth flu'. What is seen as the strongest mandate to any political party to govern since independence is being corroded by a daily dose of unthinking, unnecessary and self-contradictory comments which are making the government look confused, ill-coordinated and desperate with no evidence of team work.

What the opposition is failing to do, some ruling party leaders, ministers and advisers are achieving for them, namely making the government controversial. Such controversies are distracting the public from appreciating some major initiatives the government has taken and the bold budget it has just adopted.

It all started with our garrulous commerce minister who, after being made the coordinator of the BDR investigation, went berserk with his nearly daily comments on militant involvement, foreign conspiracy, politicisation of BDR etc. most of which turned out to be figments of his imagination if we are to believe the probe report so far made public.

No sooner had that subsided than a new controversy arose with the summoning of the ACC chairman and some of its staff to the parliamentary committee on public undertakings which has brought the parliament and a statutory body face-to-face, leaving it now upon the Speaker to decide on its future course.

While the babbling ministers put the government under ever newer controversies, (was it necessary for the LGRD minister and AL spokesperson to publicly contradict the foreign minister, even if he disagreed with her? Couldn't it have been discussed in the next cabinet meeting?) the one we are now about to discuss has peaked in its inept handling. We are of course referring to the issue of 'poisoning' Sheikh Hasina's food during her recent internment.

The controversy was started by the deputy leader of the House, Sajeda Chowdhury, not the epitome of authenticity and circumspection. She said that an attempt was made to harm Sheikh Hasina by poisoning her food while in jail. Later, she amended her statement and claimed that what she meant was that the AL leader was suffering from food poisoning. On Friday last, the PM's health adviser, Prof. Mudasser Ali, added his voice to the controversy by saying that Hasina was served with food laced with poison to kill her to implement the so-called 'minus-two' formula. While Sajeda Chowdhury did not specifically mention about any attempt to murder the AL chief, Prof. Mudasser left no doubt and even identified two advisers responsible for it.

We have two issues to raise here. Is this claim authentic? If yes, then is this the manner to raise it? We start by accepting, for the sake of argument, that the claim is true. If that is the case then we as a people, as a nation and as millions of voters who have elected her to power have the right to know, see and hear the proof of this vile, heinous and despicable plot. As Sheikh Hasina's physician, Prof. Mudasser's statement lends authenticity to this claim, Prof. Mudasser has the legal, moral and historic obligation to bare before us all the relevant evidence supporting his claim. The ball is now squarely in his court to present before the nation credible proof of what he claimed.

Again, if we accept the claim to be true, we have to ask if this is the way to bring such a serious matter such as that of attempt on Sheikh Hasina's life before the public. Take for instance the two occasions when Sajeda Chowdhury and Mudasser Ali decided to tell the people of this vile plot. The former was addressing the 84th birth anniversary of the slain veteran AL leader, Syed Kumruzzaman. The venerable health adviser chose the occasion of national birth registration day to make his sensational revelation.

Are birth anniversary and birth registration day occasions to talk about such a serious matter as the alleged attempt on the life of Bangabandhu's daughter and our elected Prime Minister? The gravity of the revelation demanded a far more serious handling of the matter. We think, before being made public, a thorough investigation should have been conducted and all relevant facts brought together and then the public should have been properly informed through a special press conference.

We know how Bangabandhu and his entire family, save Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana, were brutally murdered. We also know repeated attempts on Sheikh Hasina's life were made. The August 21 event remains a vivid, tragic and frightening memory in the nation's mind, along with the fact that Khaleda Zia's government made no attempt to bring out the facts and even tried to divert the investigation and thereby give shelter to real killers. When such is the background, any remote evidence of attempt on Sheikh Hasina's life must be dealt with in the most seriousness and circumspection.

Regrettably we consider the actions of the aforementioned two leaders as making light of a very grave matter. We think revealing an attempt on PM's life in such a casual and cavalier manner amounted to trivialisation of something very serious. Birth anniversary of a former leader and national birth registration day are not occasions when attempts on our Prime Minister's life should be discussed if it is to be taken seriously. If credible evidence cannot be produced to substantiate the present claim then a great harm will have been done to the PM's prestige and something which is most sensitive and tragic will have been made light of. It will be a case of the proverbial crying wolf and thereby laying the door open to the real wolf coming.

The Prime Minister must rein in her babbling colleagues to prevent further damage to her government, party and to what she is so desperately trying to achieve.

[ALOCHONA] Re: [amra-bangladeshi] Corruption in Bangladesh _ a fresh start needed

Corruption is a cancer.  Only medicine and Kemo Therapy will cure us from this disease. People in BD have the power to cure this cancer.  BD people need to rise up and start de-electing people who are and have potential to be corrupt when they are in power.

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

Greetings from the heart of Bangladesh .

According to the facts & findings published on the internet, electronic & print media of the world, it is clearly proven that the whole world is floating on corruption. There is no exception among the countries, the poor or least development, under development or development countries, all are heavily corrupted.

During the last Emergency Government, it was tried to prove that only the people of Bangladesh from all sectors including MPs, Politicians, Government Officials, Businessmen, Professionals, Judges, Security Forces, Teachers, Intellectuals all are heavily corrupted.

It is now also clearly proven that, the last illegal Emergency Government under the leadership of Moeen, Hasan Moshhud, Fakhruddin with all around support of UN, USA, India, UK, EU, Britain, Canada, Australia and their collaborators and their supporter shushils, electronic & print media heart & soul tried to destroy Bangladesh including politics, security, economy in the name of building Corruption Free Bangladesh, even to kill the supreme political leaders (though it is not proven yet).

But as their way & wills were full of corruption & vindictive, they failed completely to do so.

However, we humble request to the government & political parties, please come out from the ring of vindictive activities for the welfare of Bangladesh . To make a corruption free Bangladesh , the vindictive charges filed by the illegal EG against the political leaders of all parties, businessmen, journalist must be withdrawn first. Mentionable, 174 cases of BAL leaders have already selected for withdrawal, surprisingly there is no cases of BNP or others' leaders in the list.

Only and only after then, taking all the possible measures against Durnitibaj irrespective of political affiliations, may be helpful to reduce corruption of Bangladesh.

Thanks & regards,

Engr M H Khan
