1. I agree with Subimal's comment on Mr. Hasan Mahmud. Today we have hundreds of freethinkers and rationalists. To me, as a silent admirer, he, as Fatemolla, was one of the few pioneers of rational writers since early ninety's. (I like the numbering style of my childhood friend, Subimal. So I follow his style) 2. However, I see points in Mr. Bhajan Sarker's dialog too. Mr. Mahmud says, Yes, I am a strong advocate of Islam (without Sharia Law of course) and yes, I still sit in MM's Advisory Board and Editorial Board as one of its founding members.
3. Let us keep some religious extremists such as Bin Laden, Advani or Pat Robertson in view and the Mukto-Mona platform itself:
4. Remembering some lines from Professor Ajoy Roy's article, 'Biggyaner Dharma O Ishwar prasanga', For an extremist as in the above examples: Naastic (Atheist) – NO. He believes on the existence of his God. Ognyeobadi (Agnostic) – NO. He believes on the existence of his God. Songshoybadi (Skeptic) – NO. He believes on the existence of his God Juktibadi (Rationalistic) - ?. He is supposed to abide by all what is prescribed. Freethinker – ?. He is supposed to abide by all what is prescribed. Humanist – Everybody has the virtue of humanity in one or the other. 5. Mr. Mahmud is not an extremist by any means and measure. I do respect him as before. So does Mr. Bhajan Sarker I believe. 6. However, I get confused like Mr. Bhajan Sarker, when he says, "Yes, I am a strong advocate of Islam (without Sharia Law of course)." My confusion has generated because I know the Sharia Laws inherit all ingredients from Koran alone. nnSarker
