[mukto-mona] Nationalism and Politics.

After going through much humiliation Khaleda Zia is talking sense but it's too late. Do we have to believe that this is a positive transformation in her political philosophy? Its unbelievable how deeply tainted politicians are so easily welcome back into the national mainstream in the third world countries. If corruption and thuggish mentality is the corner stone of politics in Bangladesh then why some people talks about honesty, transparency and morality ? These lofty words does not really mean anything because in the context of Bangladeshi politics. Sheikh Haseena and Khaleda Zia both are equally responsible for a most despicable dynastic political culture. Their incapability has brewed a shanty culture of political corruption through their relatives and cronies. They are fortunate that they did not belong to any western nation otherwise their names would have been wiped out from the political scene once for all with considerable jail terms.

The so called honest political pundits of Bangladesh did never really understand the root causes of this political bankruptcy.  It's definitely true that an honest political mindset is impossible without a true sense of national patriotism. This patriotism was evident during the Pakistani rule because at that time we knew that we are a distinct nation. The struggle for liberation was based on that platform which naturally united the whole Bengali nation. That young enthusiasm was corrupted by late Ziaur Rahman. He was singularly responsible to introduce and infuse religious poison into the Bangladeshi politics and Khaleda Zia and her cronies watered that poison tree with all their religious perversion. This lethal brew of religion and politics has ruined the chances of a national revival.

The nation has lost its moorings and the future has become uncertain.

Another historical truth must not be underestimated that the division of India in1947 and the creation Pakistan in the name of religion is a major factor in the aimless political culture in Pakistan and Bangladesh. This religious fervour tried to destroy the sense of real belongingness to history. This fatal mistake brought a hollowness which was filled with religious poison and now the dire realities are pointing to that bloody blunder.
