Cyrus-the-clown;
President Zia was the most popular president in the history of Bangladesh. BAL lovers can cry as much as they want, but history reveals the true fact. If have a longer memory, 15 August, 1975, mass people were cheering around the cities in Bangladesh while Seikh Mujib died of self-inflicted wounds, croynism & inaptness. Mujib ruliing presented wounded Bangladeshis with more pain of hunger & femine with all his balshevic regime.
But, the sad departure of Zia invigorated the nation, he stroke the pride in Bangladeshi nationalism & patriotism. We are not part of West Bengal 'bangal' as your favorite dada will say, we are a proud nation of Bangladeshi. The tenure of Zia's presidency is a stark contrast of mischevious Mujib presidency. While Mujib invoked dictatorship with BAKSAL, Zia presented multi-party democracy. President Zia was the visionary for SARC. Zia steered the nation in a new direction for prosperity. So, people mourned for their beloved leader! The death of President Zia is a sad story and great loss for its people. Any great leader for a great cause, can be a succession for 'shahid'!

almost 30 years later, I still don't understand why Major Zia was given the posthumous title, "Shahid". I thought a "shahid" is a martyr who sacrifices himself or killed in a religious war. If memory serves me right, he was killed by his own associates. There was no religious war, nor there was any self sacrifice. Just curious! C

Like Desh Netri Khaleda Zia who gave the opportunity to Hasina to become the PM of Bangladesh. If She fleed from Bangladesh like Hasina Moueen U Ahmed or others would be the PM of Bnagladesh not Hasina. So please salute every morning to Shahid Zia & Khaleda Zia.

Shahid Zia is the biggest fraud in history. He is a general who took over Bangladesh and is 'claimed' by the BNP as the father of the Nation, i am no munjib man, but in no way is this pice of garbage worth anything to Bangladesh, all he did was create an opposition party, whose current leader is pre-occupied with how she looks than how her country is.
