Chittagong University reopened on Thursday after a month's monsoon vacation, with a ban clamped on student politics.
Classes were held in most of the departments on the first day.
The university authorities have banned political activities on the campus for an indefinite period.
In a press release signed by acting registrar (information) Farhad Hossain on Tuesday, the authorities put embargo on all demonstrations such as processions, rallies and human chains.
Vice-chancellor professor Abu Yusuf told bdnews24.com on Thursday that the ban was imposed to ensure sound academic atmosphere.
Additional police were deployed on the campus to avoid any untoward incident, he said.
