[ALOCHONA] Govt rejects Pinak’s claims on Bangladeshi visa seekers

Govt rejects Pinak's claims on Bangladeshi visa seekers

In what sounded like a half-hearted reaction to the Indian envoy's aggressive assertion over Bangladeshi visa seekers, the government on Wednesday issued a statement dismissing Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty's claim that every year some 25,000 Bangladeshis go there and do not return.

The foreign ministry issued the statement more than 48 hours after the Indian diplomat's derogatory remarks on Bangladeshi visa seekers whom he termed 'touts' and 'brokers' while addressing a business gathering in the city.
A spokesperson for the ministry said that Dhaka had no information about overstay by Bangladeshi tourists in India.

It said, 'The government's attention has been drawn to the remarks of the Indian high commissioner in Dhaka regarding overstay of Bangladesh nationals in India.'

The spokesperson said, 'The ministry would like to inform all concerned that the information available with the government does not correspond with the observation of the high commissioner. Moreover, Bangladesh has not received any official communication from the government of India in this regard.'

The foreign ministry spokesperson said Bangladesh-India relations were multi-faceted and deep-rooted and that both the countries believed in resolving all issues through dialogues.
