[mukto-mona] Bar Entry to Narendra Modi into Oman

PETITION TO BAR ENTRY TO NARENDRA MODI INTO OMAN
 The Man who could have prevented Massacre of nearly 2000 Muslims in Gujarat.

AA,

Dear Friends,

I am forwarding this petition to concerned Indians, those who wish good governance for India . A successful India has to be a cohesive unit; we cannot go forward with full steam when all of us are not on a level playing field. What is good for one has got to be good for the other for it to sustain. It is our patriotic duty to work for the safety, security, peace and prosperity of our nation. The mother of all the goodness is Justice.

Please review the following petition and exchange of a few thoughts below if you wish, and I hope you’d affix your signature to it without any delay, and please forward it to all your friends.

Many of you very kindly responded to my request to affix your signatures to raise a voice for justice to the victims of Gujarat Massacre and against Mr Modi the mastermind.

A similar petition to the financial times bore results. Financial times yielded to the voices of humanity and withdrew its plan to present its financial award to Mr. Mody, proving that human lives and justice are more valuable than crass money making. Those of you who have not had time to sign the following petition to urge the Sultanate of Oman to do the right thing , I wwill very much appreciate a few minutes of your time.

Friends:

The Sultanate of Oman is inviting Gujarat CM Mr. Narendra Modi to lead a business delegation (http://www.thaindian.com/newsportal/business/narendra-modi-may-lead-business-delegation-to-oman_100242843.html) to develop a port in Gujarat .

It is a well-know fact that in February-March 2002, as Chief Minister of Gujarat , Mr. Modi presided over and orchestrated widespread riots in which about 2000 hapless Muslims were massacred and more than 200,000 were rendered homeless. Tens of thousands of displaced Muslims are still unable to return to their homes for the fear of further attacks. The process of justice has been subverted in Gujarat in order to deny justice to the Muslims. There have been many incidences of harassment of Christians and burning of their Churches.

With the well-deserved harvest of global condemnation, Mr. Modi is desperately courting foreign investments and collaboration to mend his image as a progressive in an effort towards a political restitution.

The U.S. and many countries in Europe have banned his entry, by denying him visa.

We want Oman government to reconsider the invitation extended to Mr. Modi, as a mark of respect for humane values enshrined in all religions and the declaration of universal human rights under the UN Charter.

Please sign the petition to Oman government to show your concerns about their invitation to Mr. Modi.  The petition URL is: http://www.petitiononline.com/modi2009/petition.html

Zafar and friends;

Thanks for initiating the petition.

The other possibility for consideration:- if we isolate the guy he will dig in his heels and we will loose all chances of modification to his behavior.

What if the petition is addressed to the Omani government to have them dangle a big carrot with conditions to rehabilitate the Muslims living in inhuman conditions? Let there be an economic interest to lift up however many Muslims he can by pulling them out of the ditch?

I just did an experiment here in Dallas , where Tim O'Hare, the rotten Mayor of City of Farmers Branch has dug in his heels deep with his anti-immigrant stance. This City is in the world news for being the most bigoted City in America . I was on the front pages of all Latin American and Dallas News paper for leading the protest (by accident) and as such I am a hated guy by several bigots in this City, where I office from. I invited him to the Unity Day last year and again this year... now he has a chance of attending the event in 2010. He made the mistake but is desperately trying to get out of his position, and the chance I am giving him may be straw that broke the camel. The Dallas Morning News had interviewed me about this Gandhian Method, but chose not to publish that part.

Would you consider the idea?

Mike

Dear Mike,

Your sentiments are laudable,. Forgiveness is a higher calling when we are personally injured. Only those injured have the option of forgiveness. That is why societies and particularly Islam promotes justice above all social attributes.

In this particular case, I completely agree with Najid Saheb. It is incumbent on the society to seek and render justice, though it is not always done. The individuals and the families who were destroyed have the option of forgiveness. The society and other individuals irrespective of religion have only one options, that is to seek and render justice. As individuals we may keep quite if we please, but the greater adherence to morality is to keep pursuing justice for those who are unable, as in this case Mody is still in power and has all he can do is close all the portals of Justice in Gujarat. Fortunately he has not completely succeeded . Regards,

Mirza

Dr. Najid Hussain writes;

Mike,

”The issue in Gujarat is not just rehabilitation of the victims of Gujarat massacre, but more importantly it is also of justice to those victims, which means exacting punishment to the guilty. Modi heads the list of guilty in Gujarat .

Your proposal of offering "big carrot" to Modi will exonerate him and provide him the political restitution he is desperately seeking. We all know he wants to become Prime Minister of India some day and is looking for ways to become acceptable - person by person, state by state, country by country. Your big carrot will make it easier for him to get there.

You are right that Islam teaches us not to be revengeful but forgiving. But we should know when to apply these values. It is a misapplication of these edicts if applied to the Hitler’s of the world.

And then imagine, Modi has not shown even a little bit of remorse for his actions. He is not asking to be forgiven. Why are we taking a lead to forgive him? Should some of us suggest to him that he should ask for forgiveness from Muslims, whom he tortured, killed, displaced, and continues to abuse? “

“I am not sure if you realize if Oman opens the door, which at the moment is shut by the US and greater Europe , by letting Modi visit, then much more can flow through that open door. Many other countries will follow the suit. That process will eventually legitimize him as a leader and help him move to the prime ministership.”

Najid,

My concern is same as yours;

Justice and restitution to those who were left out and long term plans for co-existence

If Oman denies the Visa to him, would the suffering of people continue and aggravate?

Or If Oman lays out conditions for the sake of humanity; would things get better for the victims?

It has been as much a grief to me as it is to you, and my motivation is same as yours: Justice to those whom the justice continues to be denied.

Najid, I am insignificant in this equation, but my concern is not to further aggravate the suffering of the ones  who are already suffering. Let's find all the answers. You have a solid reason for not legitimizing Modi for Premiership.

Najid,

I hope you see the value in exploring different responses, your and Mirza's responses have guts in it and Insha Allah more power to do the right thing. Modi is bad thing for Muslims and India , that is given. My thought process, as yours has been to find justice for the wronged ones. What options will produce better results for the people would be a continued effort.

I have posted Zafar's petition at the World Muslim Congress and Insha Allah it will be posted in different places. I hope it is posted at India-unity and nfia groups as well. A good summary, that you have written would be a good prelude to it.

Mike
