International Hijab Day Observed in
The International Hijab solidarity day was observed in
The day was first observed in 2004 in protest against French law banning Hijab , even head scarf , of school-going students .The day was declared by International Asociation Of Islamic Scholrs (IAMS) from a conference held in London which was sponsored by the Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, Dr Qaradawi, Dr Tariq Ramadan and other scholars . The pressure on Hijab has not been reduced. In fact it is increasing. The latest incident is the killing of a Mahjuba lady in France before a court room , the effort of present French President Mr Sarkozy to ban Hijab, denying a Muslim lady in attending court in New Zealand .The speakers in the RTC deplored these incidents, they demanded the protection of religious rights of Muslim women to wear Hijab. They rejected the argument that Hijab is an instrument of political protest or attack on France or any other country. They felt the need for fighting indecency every where and need for starting a decent dress movement throughout the world as the whole world is suffering from the disease of indecent dress. Dr Sharmin in her paper presented the spreading of indecency and free mixing in the country. This is leading to un-ethical behavior and this will lead to same disaster in family in social life as in the West. She submitted eight points for consideration of authorities , these included control of cyber cafes, installing filter in internet and dress code.
We feel the RTC made many good points. We can not allow western immoral and un-ethical culture to dominate us. Un covering is not civilation.Covering is civilization. As such laws can not be made for banning good cover or dress or head-scarf or Hijab. Law can be made for cover, for decent dress .We deplore what is happening in France or New Zealand or Germany. In this regard stance of Mr. Obama is welcome when he said that the State will defend the right of Hijab in the US.
