Dear Alochok Robin
There are as many differences between Pakistan and Bangladesh as there are similarities. The editorial is a good one and of course it is only suggesting that Pakistan follow Bangladesh's lead on the subject of bringing the murderers of a Prime Minister to justice.
It is good that the editorial does not go any further in seeking to follow Bangladesh's lead. We are skilled excuse mongers - we can find an excuse for any aspect of our sorry condition. One of the excuses of last resort is - At least we are better off than Pakistan. How we love this phrase! We need Pakistan more than ever to prop up our own egos.
As a Pakistani I could come up with the following excuses for my pathetic condition. Oh yeah - these are murderous excuses:
- Sectarianism
- Regionalism
- Al Qaeda
- Taleban
- Afganistan
- Kashmir
- North West Frontier
- Nuclear bomb
- Army's share of the economy
- US armed forces
- ISI
- Tribalism
- Feudalism
On the other hand as a Bangladeshi I can come up with the following excuses that AL and BNP politicians say in private:
Our national character has been ruined / jatiyo chorithro noshto
It will take 20 years / shomoi lagbe, dhoren aro bish bochor
Its what the people want/ ki korben bhai, jonogon tho eyshob chai
Oh yes - at least we have the glorious return of the rule of law (Daily Star believes it too). Lets see what is in the papers today... Oh look! Its the ruling party cadres running riot at an international trade fair!
We are a nation of cretins. Hark! Lalon sings... "Jaath gelo, jaath gelo..."
Man. At least we have Premium mishti.
