Bangladesh is yet to introduce Machine Readable Passport [MRP], though from 1st April no international airport in the world will allow anyone to travel without the MRP.
Bangladeshi nationals are still holding old type passport, which cannot be read in machine. According to sources in Bangladesh government, applications for issuance of Machine Readable Passport will be received from mid-April, while people will start receiving their Machine Readable Passport from the May 2010. According to the source, such process may even take up to 3 months. In this case, majority of Bangladeshis, if not all, will not be able to visit any country even during the months of May, June and July 2010.
As Bangladeshi nationals are not having Machine Readable Passport at this moment, they will not be able to make any foreign trip from April 2010 and even if they will be able to manage the MRP from the concerned authorities of the government, there is no hope for them to make any trip during the entire month of April 2010 as the government will not be at all able to issue any Machine Readable Passport during that month.
Bangladeshi workers abroad will also face severe difficulties due to the situation where Bangladeshi government failed to make necessary arrangements in giving Machine Readable Passport to the citizen much ahead of the deadline of April 2010. It may be mentioned here that, most of the South Asian countries even have implemented the MRP project before 2009.
