But you see they are basically the same people! The formative years are the same years, in the same places, with the same backgrounds. Only now - especially after the carnage heaped upon many of them by the Caretaker Government - will you see some of them take a more open stance. What carnage you ask? The carnage of seeing that the minus two theory was even being attempted, the carnage of seeing that their chosen nethri had to negotiate with others, the carnage of seeing that the voices of those against the nethri system had even a little traction.

Their frailties are the frailties of our political classes. And these frailties require prolonged and sophiticated study. In other words - we don't really understand ourselves well enough. And that which we do at least understand we are too embarassed - and scared - to talk about.

We suffer from:

A lack of real faith in our own values
A lack of true confidence in our own abilities
A vast and pervasive inferiority complex
A fundamental lack of imagination about our possibilities
A paralysing and destructive set of insecurities

Probably born from centuries of rule and neglect by foreign rulers.

We love to talk and sing about ourselves but we never take a good, hard look at ourselves. And until we do we will remain a joke.
