More than 300 structures including Khaleda's demolished

A house of the BNP chairperson, Khaleda Zia, and 300 other structures, including industrial units at Savar, were razed in a demolition drive by the land directorate on Wednesday.
Witnesses said valuables were looted from the houses during the demolition which was carried out without giving a notice beforehand.

The upazila assistant commissioner (land) who led the eviction drive claimed the drive was carried out on a court order. When challenged by Ahmed Azam Khan and Gautam Chakraborty, legal advisers to Khaled Zia, magistrate Sharifuzzaman Khan could not furnish the court order. The demolition drive began 11:00am and continued till 2:00pm.

The late president Ziaur Rahman bought the 17.68 decimals of land, at Uttar Ramchancrapur near the National Martyrs' Memorial, from Haji Tamizuddin and Azizur Rahman in October 1973 and registered the piece of land in the name of his wife Khaleda.
