[ALOCHONA] Those few good men

Those few good men

Comrade Mujaffar Ahmed is the pioneer in communist movement in our part of the world. 'Amar jibon o Bharoter Communist Party' written by him in more than 500 pages I read in two nights, decades ago, during my post 'teen' era.

Eating Chira, muri with gurh while carrying thousands of rupee party funds, oriented party activists and the nation towards his/Marx, Angele's wealth distribution and egalitarian socialist theories. Impeccable dedication,  motivation and trust made him everyone's 'kaka babu'who help built a numerous dedicated leaders and politicians in India and in impoverished Kolkata.

60/70 years of those legendary communist's ascension  on West Bengal's power could not graduate it from ultra poor to middle class. In social terms nothing significant has been achieved that takes WB away from many states of India that witnessed remarkable economic growth. Here people still buy 250 gm of Ilish, also in four pieces or half kilo of mutton(a day laborer or rikshaw pullers in Dhaka wouldn't dare to do that) considers 'sukto' as delicacy in this modern time. This portion of Bengalees loved to live under the Mughol's cousin in Delhi, yet created a peculiar sense of satisfaction that matches nothing in this time but their own image of submission and subjugation. If one makes a comparison of Kolkata with Madras, Bangalore or Mumbai they find nothing but legendary Jyoti Basu and his rule of deceit and defeat. West Bengal still remains poor with its prized possessions given by the Queen Elijabeth and her majesty's diplomats who crafted or tried to create an image of India far from its reality on the ground, till to date.

Like Comrade Mujaffar Ahmed, Jyoti basu remained dedicated to communist ideology when Lenin and Mao Je Dong's own parties today remain far removed  from their ideals and crafted new theories that ushered in new kind of prosperity in an unbelievable speed, again like many other impoverished states in Federal India WB couldn't go far despite its 200 years of leading history.

Leadership is not all about personal honesty or dedication, commitment and steadfastness is the driving force. Vietnam fought a war more fierce and prolonged with an enemy more savage and ruthless in the modern history, yet the leadership managed the take off and continue to progress, while our leaders started sawing the destructive policies from the day one and Vietnam has gone far forward than we did, and we take no shame and yet glorify those leaders who failed and still failing us. We do this because our 'love' for our people is little than its size for our leaders, mainly because we are 'morally corrupt'.

Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, who would talk about a bad practice or a crime as – continued by post liberation governments instead of naming Sh. Mujib. But he would name Zia directly for his crime. Sayed Abul Maksood will write on the crimes and corruptions done by Awami League but directly or indirectly will praise Hasina, as, if Hasina knew she wouldn't have let it happen (as what is been said about Sh. Mujib and that eventually destroyed him) or saves Hasina or Awami League and talks against its members. Often praising AL over BNP.

Sirajul Islam chowdhury or Sayeed Abul Maksood's personal simplicity and honesty is legendary at our time but their support for a party openly make them share the party's unpardonable crimes and corruptions that cripples our nation.

Atiar Rahman, whom I started reading in late 70s, Anu Mahmud still I read with skepticism. As a governor (gift as a AL loyalist), as an activist both of them I become skeptic. Bangladesh Bank has made a biggest loss ever as news goes, and often I wonder is AM really want to protect our natural wealth or protecting AL some extent. Communists then, now in our country allied with American Foreign policy and targeting the same enemy - Islam and terrorism.

Abul Barakat whose economic theories always evolve around Zangibad and Jamaat or Islam. Anyone having independent mind can identify him as an offshoot of AL. Most of the Jamaat ministers or MPs were not financially corrupt so we can say about Dr. Abul Barkat. But for common good of people we can't rely either of them.

My conviction is most of the so called cultural personalities are morally corrupt and I consider what they try to portray to the nation is vague and phony. None could create something that make us proud and their heart and soul are dedicated to Utpal Datta, Pahari Sanyal, Sunil Gangyaopadhyai or Moheshyata Debi. They mostly reflects  as an extension of BBC, European Union, US and India. They perpetrate the same crime as far as Indian foreign policy towards its neighbor is concerned. India relies on them (while they praise India unnecessarily  same time irrelevantly they will rant against Pakistan). While those committed cultural personalities in WB with their devotion and dedication made a name for themselves, ours only try to copy them with shameless failure.

Anisul Haque, Zafar Iqbal, Muntasir Mamoun, Humayon Ahmed or people in this band, they love AL but shy to acknowledge, than only criticize AL for something that do not have severe implications. Same people will make every initiative to demean or destroy BNP for the same kind of economic or social policies. That is, crime committed by AL and crime of BNP or killings of AL is generally ignored over killing of BNP. Killings and corruption of Sh. Mujib never touched the heart of 'these good men' but for crimes of Zia they write a whole novel. And for this reason none of them could make our great novelist or writers. Humayon Ahmed writes against calling of a hartal by BNP (last hartal of BNP), as people suffer but I have not seen any, when AL does the same. Even when his mother was ill treated recently in a hospital and about to die, he kept his mouth shut, couldn't write a single word against this common social vice. What can the society expect from them. To me neither they are good for themselves nor for me or you as we share the common citizenship. Yet these few are good men in our time.

Their support for AL should bear no bad omen or my support for BNP( if you think I am) the meager progress we made after our birth as a nation, done by these political homes( should include Ershad) and what we could not achieve or for their policies that destroyed or gave us a bad name as a nation we should be able to identify and recognize them truthfully as an independent human or citizen, only a natural expectation of us. When we fail to do that, we become  lackeys of those political homes and we share their crimes and corruption that made us poor, demean our values and force us to suffer.

I fail to understand, there are some activists dedicated their lives and soul calling for justice for some crimes committed many years ago but remain dumb and deaf for many other similar crimes committed after and in recent time. They are professors, PHD holders, well argued people happen to be frontline members of our society. And this become the frontline crime that made our society immoral, fragmented and unstable and often violent.

Had these good men taken independent stand they would have created institutions and those institutions would have instituted common good for our people deterring politician's many ill motives against our own people.  But their position makes us more unfortunate!
