[ALOCHONA] india and china

Will India enter into conflict
with China over Nepal
Shamsuddin Ahmed
Nepal faces a critical time. Parliament even in its 16th bid failed to elect a prime minister. Caretaker government is running the show. National budget had to be adopted by an ordinance promulgated by the President. Consensus among major political parties is a far cry. Tasks for peace process – drafting constitution and integration of some 19,000 Peoples Liberation Army of the Maoist, cantoned under supervision of UN Mission in Nepal – into Nepal Army is a distant prospect.
What will happen when UNMIN wraps up and leaves Nepal at the end of its second extended term on January 15 next? The vexing question is worrying every citizen. The last extension of UNMIN five months ago was vehemently opposed by the Nepal Army and India as well. Further extension is unlikely.
Dr Ram Saran Mahat, a former minister, was quoted by a Nepalese daily as saying 'the situation has reached a dangerous juncture … We need to prepare for unforeseen events after departure of UNMIN.'
