Re: [ALOCHONA] India gets transit through Bangladesh without tariff

Dear Alochoks,

This is an interesting news - I have highlighted the last paragraph of this news article, which, I think is worth mentioning (please see below). According to Bangladeshi constitution before allowing India free transit this subject should have been presented to parliament but the current government has ignored the constitution - whose interest are they serving? Is it the people of Bangladesh or somebody else?

How is it possible in a democracy (like Bangladesh) a government can sold out its future to a foreign country? Or is this the slave mentality that I have been reading - do we Bangladeshies not have any will power to decide what is good for us without being slave to foreign powers?

Is Bangladesh a democracy or run by an autocratic regime? And what role is played by the opposition parties - I guess they are too busy looking for a mansion for their leader?

What a shame! Millions of dollars spend on the parliament and the apparatus of democracy but not being used for the good of the people. Can we please ask the current incumbent government mouth piece to explain why this important issue has not been discussed/debated in the Parliament?

Salam.

Discourses and debates had been going on over the past several decades
on India's request for granting her transit, which is actually
corridor facility. The opinions have been recommending its discussion
in parliament after the national election when it shall have to be
debated and decided because the very nature of the issue concerns the
security of this country. They quote Article 145A of our Constitution
which says that all treaties with foreign countries shall be submitted
to the President "who shall cause them to be laid before parliament."
For reasons best known to the Awami League government, this has not
been done. People wonder why the government is shying away from this
vital task of discussing the matter in the Jatiya Sangsad
(parliament).
