Graft clutches every sphere of society : Sultana Kamal

Former adviser to a caretaker government and rights activist Sultana Kamal yesterday said people are deprived of their rights and a sense of impunity has evolved in the culture due to massive corruption in every sphere of society.
While inaugurating an anti-corruption theatre festival at the central Shaheed Minar, she said resources of the country are being gripped by a small quarter of people who want to save these resources through corruption.

"Human rights, democratic rights of the people and their opportunities to resources remain absent when corruption prevails in any society," she said at the theatre festival organised by Transparency International Bangladesh.
To eliminate corruption, massive awareness among people against it should be created when every single citizen of the country would resist corruption in their surroundings, said Sultana Kamal.

There would not have been any shortage of hospitals or educational institutions for the people if there were no corruption in the country and Bangladesh would have been at a stage of development where it should have been after the 40 years of its independence, she said. Seven dramas by different theatre groups will be played in the two-day festival. Bangladesh Pathanatya Parishad, President Mannan Hira, also spoke at the inauguration event.
