Dhaka, Mar 5 (benews24.com) — The US expressing its 'deep concern'
over the process of removal of Grameen Bank managing director Muhammad Yunus does not seem to have gone down well among the student community of Bangladesh.

On Saturday, a group of students protested the United States' stance
on the issue, and demanded apology from the country.

As Bangladesh Bank through an order on Wednesday removed Yunus,
calling the extension of his term in the office illegal, the US
ambassador to Bangladesh James F Moriarty said, "My government is
deeply troubled over the process followed (for removal)."

A rejoinder, signed by 30 students and some youth, said the United
States through its statements on Yunus's removal had violated
diplomatic propriety.

"We think the naked behaviour of the United States against an
administrative decision of Bangladesh Bank is a serious violation of
diplomatic propriety, equivalent to interference in the country's
sovereignty," the rejoinder said.

"We demand unconditional apology from the United States and a pledge
to refrain from such activities in the future," it added.

They also demanded that Moriarty be withdrawn by his country or be
expelled by the government.

They went on to say that US secretary of state Hilary Clinton should
also be sacked by president Obama for her interference in another
country's sovereignty.

The rejoinder remarked that Yunus would meet Hilary on Mar 8 to
discuss the issue of his dismissal, which 'is an insolence of
interfering in state affairs of Bangladesh to protect her family
friend's interests'.

"We call on the government to prevent Dr Yunus from visiting the
United States to participate in a conspiracy against the state of
Bangladesh and its government," the rejoinder said quoting the
students.

They suggested that Grameen Bank be turned into a 'people's
corporation' and its profits distributed to its beneficiaries.
