Clash in VGF rice queue, 1 dead

At least one person was killed and eight injured in a clash over
queuing for rice during the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme
in Gopalganj.

Delwar Hossain, 40, alias Dilu Sheikh, from Panchkahani area at
Tungipara died in a Khulna hospital early in the morning on Friday.

Police and local people said Dilu, a rickshaw-trolley puller, was
taken to a hospital in Tungipara and later transferred to the Khulna
hospital after he had been injured in the clash on Thursday afternoon.
Tunigipara police chief Shyam Lal Nath said seven people were arrested
in the morning on Friday over the incident.

The detained are Islam Sheikh, Russel Sheikh, Lablu Sheikh, Ebadul
Sheikh, Aiyub Sheikh, Kalam Sheikh and Noor Islam Sheikh, he said.
"Our drive is on and a case will be filed," he added.

Witnesses said Yunus Sheikh, a guard of Tungipara Municipality, had a
scuffle with Hafiz Sheikh and Nuru Sheikh over queuing for VGF rice.
The scuffle later turned into a violent clash, they said.
