Pretension of naivete cannot be an excuse for not facing the truth. The reason behind Mujib assassination is much more deeper than what Mr. Anwar pretends to think. I will look for the actual reason in line with what Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury (one of the most talented and informed journalists who had the opportunity to watch closely the rise and fall of Mujib) has shown in his film "Palashi theke Dhanmandi". A conspiracy cunningly hatched by foreign hands obviously had to recruit a few disgruntled, ambitious, and dissenting elements both from among the army and the civilians. The conspirators struck at an opportune moment. The preventable 1974 famine (could be lingered only by foreign noncooperation), chaos and confusion in the political arena, formation of BKSAL, etc. created a background for the ripe time to strike. Indira was too busy with exercising her emergency rule within her own country and was indifferent to what was going on in her small neighbor. It is not that Mujib was in total dark about what was brewing. But overconfident as he had always been, he ignored all the intelligence or alerts he received from both his own people and India as well. He was asked to move to Bongobhaban. He did not.
