[mukto-mona] 166 detained in Chittagong, Cox's Bazar:Quran Insulter should Have been arrested first --editorial

Several Facebook users, meanwhile, said Uttam Barua, the Ramu youth being accused of Quran defamation, did not post the photo deemed to be offensive to Islam. They said Uttam was tagged in the photo from a Facebook ID called 'Insult Allah' and so he was in no way responsible.

It is a good question Mr. Anwar. Why was the film maker arrested? Does the USA have blasphemy law? As far as I know BD does not have blasphemy law. If it is true, then under what law would the Koran insulter be arrested? I think these people who insult a religious prophet or book should be sent for counseling. One informed American tells me that the movie maker was arrested against other charges not for making the video. Looks like a big conspiracy was involved. Who knows what happened with the Ramu case!

166 detained in Chittagong, Cox's Bazar:Quran Insulter should Have been arrested first

A daily  Star Report says that law enforcers have so far arrested 166 people in connection with Saturday's violence at Ramu in Cox's Bazar,Bangladesh , that later spread in the port city.Of the arrestees, 93 were picked up from Cox's Bazar and 73 from Chittagong, Sixteen cases -- 13 in Cox's Bazar and three with Patiya Police Staion -- have been filed so far against several thousand people in connection with the violence.Dipananda Bhikkhu, priest of Kolagaon Sarbojanin Ratnangkur Buddha Bihar, which was set on fire on Sunday, lodged one of the cases with Patiya Police Station accusing 37 persons by name and around 500 unknown persons. Of the cases in Cox's Bazar, six were lodged with Ramu, four with Ukhia, two with Teknaf and one with Sadar police stations, Babul Akhter, additional superintendent of police in Cox's Bazar, told The Daily Star. Law enforcers were reported to have been raiding different places in Cox's Bazar to detain more people involved in the sectarian attack..
Lutfor Rahman Kajol, BNP lawmaker from Cox's Bazar-3 constituency, said he had asked police to arrest the man who carried a poster that was defaming the Quran during the rally at Ramu Chaumuhoni before the incident. "But police did not arrest the person. Had they done it, the situation would not have gone so bad," he added.
We are happy that situation has improved . However police should not use the issue for innocent people. Filing cases against nameless thousands of people opend the door for harassment. We feel that the arrest of the Buddhist boy who gave an insulting picture of Quran in his face book account would have stopped the public fury and then later events would not have taken place..

We have seen other reports which show ruling party is blaming the opposition BNP and Jamaat for the incidents. This is unfair attempt to politicise a matter. Some of them are blaming fanatics and communalists , the terms they use for Islamic minded people. Islamic minded people, of course protest any insult of Islam but they do not generally resort to violence. Such violence is done by rowdy people or simple people who do not know teachings of Islam.
