Wishing you all a very Happy Vijaya Dashami!

Power of Good - Dussehra
A time for celebration! A time for victory of good over bad,
A time when world see the example of power of good.
Let us continue the same "true" spirit.

Vijaya Dashami also known as Dasara, Dashahara, Navaratri, Durgotdsav… is one of the very important & fascinating festivals of India, which is celebrated in the lunar month of Ashwin (usually in September or October) from the Shukla Paksha Pratipada (the next of the New moon day of Bhadrapada) to the Dashami or the tenth day of Ashwin.

This festival is celebrated not only in India but in almost all eastern countries like Java, Sumatra, Japan etc... Dasara is Nepal's national festival.

Word DASARA is derived from Sanskrit words "Dasha" & "hara" meaning removing the ten (10). This is the most auspicious festival in the Dakshinaayana or in the Southern hemisphere motion of the Sun.  In Sanskrit, 'Vijaya' means Victory and 'Dashami' means 10th day. 'Thus Vijaya Dashami' means victory on the 10th day

In most of the places in the country right from ten days before Dussehra, the whole Ramayana is enacted in various parts of India. The occasion is also celebrated in many countries where people of Hindu faith are residing in a very similar manner to that of India. It is on the tenth day that people come out in processions and chant the greatness of Lord Rama and enact the whole Rama-Ravana war on the streets. It is said that this is a way to remind people of the fact that truth always triumphs and motivate them to follow the path of 'dharma'.

Dussehra symbolizes the conquest of good over evil. It is thus considered as an auspicious day. Even today after burning the effigy of Ravana along with his subordinates Meghanad and Kumbhkarana on the Dusshera celebrations, we simply symbolize the power of goodness and humanity is above all kind of powers. As Lord Rama fought a battle of ten days with Ravana, who had abducted his wife Sita, the day of his victory is called 'Vijaya Dashmi', the tenth day of Victory. It is said that this day symbolizes not as the victory of Ram but also the victory of 'mankind'. That is why this day is held in high regard by people who believe that whenever there will be chaos in the society and evil will try to take over humanity, God will appear in a the form of savior to protect his devotees.

Whatever the form of celebration across the country, the one essence which binds it is the victory of good over evil, not the all-evident victory over an external evil, but the evil that lies within oneself.

Like the 10 heads of Ravana - the demon king from Ramayana, which depict the 10 evil in humans which control our destiny.
Kama vasana (Lust)
Krodha (Anger)
Moha (Delusion)
Lobha (Greed)
Mada (Over Pride)
Matsara (Jealousy)
Manas (Mind)
Buddhi (Intellect)
Chitta (Will)
Ahankara (Ego).

May Maa Durga give you all the strength to overcome these hidden demons inside of you, and bless you with a peaceful & happy life!

Wish you all a very Happy Dussera!
