Happy and Peaceful New Year.
We had one well attended state convention of All India Secular Forum in Varanasi. This was planned and organized by Dr. Mohammad Arif, who is the state convener of UP All India Secular Forum. Rajesh Jhankar and Dhirendra Panda are organizing the Orissa state convention in January.
All India Secular Forum has also endorsed the appeal by citizens of Assam to the Prime minister, asking for proper rehabilitation of the victims of the July violence and displacement. We also appreciate the Faizabad-Ayodhy "Awam ka Cinema" festival. Unfortunately the vandals of ABVP, attacked this popular event. They were especially disturbed by the film Raam Ke Naam, which exposes their actions very clearly.
The last month we saw the results of Gujarat Assembly polls. The victory of Narendra Modi for third time has come as a set back to the movement for preservation of democratic values. We are carrying many interviews, articles and protest campaigns on this issue. Shabnam Hashmi has raised many a doubts about the victory of Modi. One does not know how seriously this will be taken up. The so called myth of development of Gujarat has been exposed very well. We carry one of the articles on this topic also. Some experts feel that Modi cannot be a success at the center.
We also condemn the Hate speech indulged in by Akbaruddudin Ovasi of Hyderabad. While paying tributes to Pandit Ravishankar we also recall his commitment to secular values, for which he stood steadfastly.
