Khaleda Zia in her speech at Manikganj (17.03.2013) dismissed the suggestion of a dialogue with the Awami League government. She also mentioned that her party will continue the movement if the government does not step down from power. In her own words: "There is no point of having any talks with this killer government. Some more lives will possibly be lost in the process to oust them. But even then, we must take to the streets to remove this government" (bdnews24.com).
As a citizen of Bangladesh, my question to Khaleda Zia: Is she or her son ready to sacrifice their lives in the anti-government movement? A captain must sacrifice his/her life first for a cause, only then the others will follow him/her. But it is an irony that all we want is to be a leader without making the necessary sacrifice. What we see is during hartal the party chiefs stay at home. But general people get killed and their properties are destroyed. As a guardian of a state or a party, one must be very careful about what one speaks in the public. At the same time, we should do politics for the welfare of the common people, not to serve any selfish end. It is not only true of BNP, but also of the ruling Awami League. Everyone's life, irrespective of caste, creed, sex and religion, has equal value and the politicians must realise this truth.
