Re: [mukto-mona] Only Pakistan lovers Razakars can say such senseless words about Bangobandhu - শেখ মুজিবের ষড়যন্ত্রের রাজনীতি ও বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা

Firoz M. Kamal is senseless not only about Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he is a lunatic hate-monger who likes the senselessness of the concept of Pakistan and its pre-Bangladesh dictatorial and hateful policies against the people of East Bengal, shunning the people's fight for their rights and dignity. His article is rubbish, and is unworthy of discussion in this forum.

As for Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he should be left to be judged by history a thousand years from now. Silly polls have no value. That said poll even finds Ziaur Rahman to be a great Bangalee!

Excessive praising of the unworthy is typical of the corrupt Bangalee mindset. I would go slowly on this kind of praising of political figures. Let us talk if you will on the good and bad of any important figure; but let us not call anyone the greatest or the worst.

In brief, Mujib loved his birthplace and its people. He fought for the rights of the Bangalees within the framework of Pakistan. However, he was too much of an imperfect father of the nation of Bangladesh. With his huge popularity in 1971-72, he could have tried to uncorrupt his party and the country, which he did not do. A great leader does not tolerate heinous crimes against innocent humanity because 'the criminals are my people too'. Mujib certainly did not attempt seriously enough to bring the 1971 war-criminals to justice, to say the least. While he was a decent human being, and did not hate non-Muslims, he certainly was not above the Muslim brotherhood concept. After all, he went to Pakistan for an OIC conference, invited Bhutto on a red-carpet visit to Dkaka, and fired the Prime Minister who led the liberation war for Bangladesh, all within three years of the independence of Bangladesh. The first two he did in spite of the OIC's opposition to Bangladesh and Butto's role of the real villain of the crimes against humanity in Bangladesh and of the break-up of Pakistan.

Yes, you are right, it's not the poll that determines great Bangalees; history will do that. Bongabondhu instilled Bangalee-Jatiotabad that was in danger of extinction, for which he will always be the greatest Banglalee. No need to poll anybody. Bongabondhu's contribution and love for Bangladesh are undeniable facts, but soon after he returned from Pakistan, he started to commit series of blander, for which Bangladesh will suffer forever.

Such on line polls do not really mean much.  In August 1975, the Bangabandhu had almost zero popularity.  His contribution in the autonomy movement of East Pakistan, though supported by offshore money, is undeniable.  However, he was taken by surprise when he learned that East Pakistan had become an independent country named Bangladesh.  To him, Brutus like Khandker Mustaque was closer than Tajuddin Ahmed.  Even Abdul Malek Ukil called him a Pharaoh after his assassination.  He declared General Amnesty for the collaborators and released them from jail.  The steps taken by him contributed to the rise of pan-Islamic sentiment in the country.  Not even his nephew, Shaikh Mani, rated his leadership quality highly.  In spite of his brand of secularism, more Hindu property was confiscated during his rule than the entire Pakistani period.  Not even the property belonging to the temples were spared.
